Subtitle problems with Encore CS4 and BD/Blu-ray -- here is a solution!

Do you have problems with subtitles: for example they vanish completely after doing fast forward or turn them off and on again. Then here you can find one possible solution.
I am using Windows Vista 32bit. Thus Encore CS4 is the last version which I can use. Because Adobe will never provide a solution for this version, I was looking for another solution.
At least I found a workaround for my subtitle problems.
Now I am doing the following steps:
1. Create the blu-ray disk in a folder without subtitles
2. Create the subtitles with a program like "subtitle workshop"
3. Save the subtitles in the .srt format.
4. Use the program SubConverter Express v1.5.0 to convert the subtitles in the .sup format. Here you must choose a suitable font & font size.
5. Add the .sup to the blu-ray folder structure with the program BDFix Express v1.7.3. When doing that, you can also choose the language i.g. "deu" for german. You will find a detailed description in the forum on www.defsoft.com. It is very easy to understand.
6. BDFix will create a new folder with all necessary files to burn a blu-ray disk. Nothing changes in comparison to the folder which was createt by Encore except that subtitles were added.
7. You can burn this folder with a tool like imgburn.
With this workaround you will have the following advantages:
1. It seems that these subtitles were added in a blu-ray specification conform way. Fast forward/backward, switching on/off, chapter jump still work perfectly.
2. The subtitle fonts are rendered in a much more smooth way than Encore does.
3. The 5 frames gap between subtitles is not longer necessary.
4. This solution ist quite fast (about 20 minutes for a 25 GByte disc).
5. You can use these programs also for other blu-rays to add or remove subtitles.
6. You do not need Encore to add/change or remove subtitles. You can do that also years later. You only need the burned blu-ray disc.
To be honest, there is one disadvantage:
- The two programs (SubConverter & BDFix) cost about 200 US Dollar. But to cure my nerves that was worth it.
Hint: You can do a first test with the freeware versions. But there are two limitations. SubConverter can only import 30 subtitle lines and BDFix will only create 3 minutes of subtitles.

FLV and F4V use different codecs for Flash video. H.264 in case of F4V and On2 VP6 for FLV. There's a difference of bitrate between different quality presets. You can check the bitrates of files generated using some tool. Your video might be very static to feel the different be the two quality settings.
F4V is the new format and need a newer version of Flash Player. Please update your Flash player and try again to play the F4V files.
Playstream doesnt support F4V format. You can only export FLV files to Playstream.
It might also be an issue of low bandwidth while playing a streaming video. Are you playing is locally or from a web server.

Problem with Encore CS4 (and Windows 7, possibly)

Anybody else having this problem? First I'll get my system blood work out of the way. It's a brand new HP Pavillion.

I have ensured that everything is updated. This includes:
All CS4 Applications
Windows 7
My Graphics Card Driver
My Display Driver
I have also updated the Roxio PX Engine to V4.18.16a. I had read on a forum that Encore uses this driver and it should be up to date.
OK, the problem, which I can reproduce with the simplest Encore project:
1.     Start Encore
2.     Create a new project - specify DVD - everything else id default.
3.     Create a timeline
4.     Import asset. It is a simple Standard Video AVI file, 720x480.
5.     Select timeline for editing
Here's what happens:
A) Monitor window behaves normally. I can click play and watch the imported video. Sound is fine, everything is fine. I can start and stop the play back freely. All is well.
B) Now, I can do a number of things to create the problem I am having. The simplest is to just go to the timeline editor, select the AVI asset that has just been there, running fine, and remove it from the time line. At this point, the monitor window's internal frame that used to represent the video view port area, disappears. By "disappears", I mean that the Monitor window goes to the background color which is used for empty, unused window regions. What had been there before was a jet-black frame representing the video view area
Now, if I go to the project window and re-select the AVI asset that I was just viewing and put it BACK into the timeline, the Monitor does not restore. If I play the timeline, the monitor is still blank, although I can hear sound.
In addition to this, I also find that Encore has slowed so that response to the simplest operation is extremely slow. It doesn't crash, although, it might if I hang around long enough - but I don't. If I shut down Encore and restart it, it will work OK until I start manipulating video assets again and then the same thing will happen.
I should mention that, yes, I have this new computer but I was using Encore on an older and much slower XP system with less memory and drive space and I had no trouble with encore. I should also point out that the AVI assets that I use to produce this problem are the same ones I had used successfully on the older system.
Is there anyone out there that would find this problem familiar? Anyone find a solution?

Thanks but, I had already done this. I was having THAT problem with Encore (could not even initialize before tanking) when I first installed it and that's when I updated the Roxio engine. I don't know what else there is to update or correct at this point.
There was one thing that occurred to me: When I was using XP, I had to disable Open GL in order to get Encore to stabilize. I've heard one recommendation for Encore that one must disable graphics acceleration. I would like try that here except I can't figure out how to do that in Windows 7.
I've been Googling "Windows 7 Disable Graphics Accel" and have come up with nothing useful.
Thanks for your help though and if you have any other ideas, I'm all ears.

Jerky playback of Blu Ray with Encore CS4 and Mac

I was very pleased by the fact that I created a Blu Ray disk on my first try...however, the footage plays back very jerky...almost like the frame rate dropped by half...I am using DVCPro 720p footage and compressing in two ways...1st did it in Media Encoder using the both 264 and mpeg 2 for blu-ray, and chose the proper format for 720p. Then I let Encore compress it using the automatic option...on all tries the video is playing back extremely jerky. I am also burning to re-writeable Blu Ray disks and playing back on PS3...anyone know what might be the problem?

I did the same thing 720p 60p shot on a panasonic p2. I used final cut studio to co press to a mpeg-2 blu-ray stream and then build the blu-ray in encore cs4, it played back smoothly no dropping of frames or any other issues. That might solve your problems.

Problems with PS CS4 and sketch tablet

I having problems with my sketch tablet everytime I start
PS CS4 I only can use my primary screen with the pen.. As long as CS4 is not running I can use the dual screen without problems. Anyone have any clues how to fix it? I have the latest drivers. The sketch tablet is a Trust Slimline Design Tablet TB-6300.

What change was made to your system to make this happen? Everything worked fine before but now it has a problem?
Even though you have the latest drivers it sometimes helps to remove the drivers and reinstall them. Also use CCleaner to remove any lingering drivers after you remove the drivers. I and lots of others use this free software to cleanup our systems. Works great.

Problem with Encore 2 and WinDVD

Hi all,
when i create a DVD with Encore 2.0, everything works fine and it looks good in any stand alone DVD player.
But when I use WinDVD, the DVD shows its menu for about 0.5 seconds and the window turns all black again. I have to push the menu-button to access the DVD.
This hapens ONLY with the combination of Encore and WinDVD. I tried other authorung programs which run perferctly with WinDVD, on the otherhand DVDs authored with Encore make no trouble with eg PowerDVD.
But as most of my clients use WinDVD and I really like Encore, I'd like to get both programs run together. Can anyone approve this bug?

JumpSS is used to transfer playback from the First-Play domain to the VTSM menu domain to display the root menu, or else to transfer playback back to the First-Play PGC from the menu domain (If a new disc is inserted).
In short, the Abstraction Layer has placed these commands there so that the menu you designated as "First Play" will actually play first.
It gets complicated.....
The Menu domain can start in one of 2 ways, depending on the structure of the disc. Encore is a multi-VTS application "under the hood", andthis means that the VMGM menus and VTSM menus are assigned by the AL (Abstraction Layer). In applications without the AL, you need to tell the app what will be the VMGM and what will be VTSM. The two are quite different. A VMGM menu can access every VTS in the disc, whereas a VTSM menu can only access content in the VTS it is a part of. You would use multiple VTS when creating titles with either
A - different aspect ratios (You cannot mix 4:3 and 16:9 in the same VTS), or
B - different Audio specs (Each Movie in a VTS must have the same audio. So if Movie 1, Audio 1 = PCM, and Movie 2, Audio 1 = Dolby Digital, each Movie will be automatically placed in a separate VTS)
You cannot jump from VTS 1 to VTS 2 without going via a VMGM menu.
So, the command

the GPRM in question back to 0 - IE, a reset. This will be used not on "First Play", as all GPRM are at 0 when a disc is first loaded. What this command does is resets the system to default when the title button is pressed on the disc (assuming your title button is indeed set to the First Play menu??)
Remember that Encore is an AL tool, and you do not set the names for the menus & movies. It's done dynamically.

As far as WinDVD 5 goes, I'd change it. If commercial discs are also messing up, it is a bug. Try asking InterVideo if there was ever a patch for the build you own - if there is a later build, it will be in their archives and they should be able to supply it.

Problems with illustrator CS4 and win 7 64 bit pencil and bruch tools

I just bought a computer with Windows 7 64 bit version. Whenever I use the Pencil tool and the brush tool, I can't see my lines as I draw them, only after I draw. Also sometimes the first item I draw disappears, and lines will sometimes be randomly broken, with pieces missing.
Is anyone else experiencing this? And have you found a way to get around it?
I tried changing the compatability mode for the program to work for Windows XP, but that hasn't helped.

Nor should it. Issues such as you describe them are usually graphics driver issues or problems with specific input devices such as tablets which compatibility modes can't fix, as they use the same drivers. So what is it you are using on that end?

Problems with Encore CS4 Flash Playback in webbrowsers

Here's my problem. I made a great DVD I was hoping to show online.
There are several options when I export.
You have export to flv or f4v. I'm not really sure what the difference is but I tried both. When I export to f4v I great great playback in firefox and new versions of IE...but older versions don't play.
When I export to flv I get choppy, unwatchable playback from all browsers. Even when I set the quality to low, the video is still crystal clear, almost like this option does nothing at all.
I was thinking maybe I could somehow compress the flv after it exports, or even hack the f4v to play in old versions of ie but I have no idea how to do either one!
These are both streamed btw. I know I saw that you can throw it up onto playstream and thats supposed to help playback, but my company doesn't want to pay for it.
Am I missing something? I'm under a really tight timeframe to have this stuff finished. Please help!

Hello averydoby, when i try to open the filters liquify and the gallery filters happens that before you open takes 10 minutes to load and when you open the program takes any action carried out for 2-3 minutes. The problem essentially is that charge too.
I own a compute macbook pro with 512 mb video card and 2 gb of ram, I have also tried to use the filters with images of a few kb but the same thing happens.
Someone knows what could be the problem?

(adbobe level 3 Support was able to reproduce the error but there was no solution)
I don't have the this Problem neither with PS CS4 nor PS CS2 on a mac pro (early 2008) running mac os 10.5.6 anymore.

Frustrating problem: Help with add file name problem with Photoshop CS4. What happens is this. When I am in PS CS4 or CS3 and run the following script it runs fine. When I am in Bridge and go to tools/photoshop/batch and run the same script it runs until it wants interaction with preference.rulerunits. How do I get it to quit doing this so I can run in batch mode? Any help is appreciated. HLower

Change Background in Menu Creation Encore CS4 and Photoshop

I am creating a menu using Encore and Photoshop. I Used the Encore Libray to create a blank background and also created a series of buttons adusting them in Photoshop CS4. However, when I try to change the background with a new jpg or psd file I open the picture in Photoshop but not as the new background layer I am trying to achieve. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

There should be no problem when adding the image of your choice, with Edit in Photoshop.
When you choose Edit in Photoshop, several things happen:
1.) a TMP PSD for that Menu is created.
2.) links are created between En and PS
3.) PS is launched, and that TMP PSD is then Opened in PS.
When one has edited that TMP PSD in PS, they must do a Save to allow those links back to En*.
If you are doing a Save_As, or Save_As_a_Copy, those links will NOT be followed, and the Menu will NOT update in En.

I have encountered some instances, where a single Save does not follow those links. With experimentation, I have found that 3 Saves (Ctrl+S) will force those links to be followed, and the Menu updated in En. Not sure why this happens sometimes, but 3 seems to be the "magic number," at least for me.

Problem timing slides to audio in Blu-ray slideshow in encore cs5. Help!

I'm using a 2006 mac pro 1,1 with 7GB, and I'm trying to make a blu-ray slideshow with encore cs5. There is about 20 minutes of music for 99 slides. I click "fit slideshow to audio" and the time per slide increases to about 12 seconds, which is correct, and when I preview the slideshow it
plays back correctly. But when the blu-ray or image is burned, the slides last only about a second or two each and the audio cuts off abruptly at the end of the 99th slide. This project, by the way, has two slideshows which play one after the other. Both have the same problem.
Operating System: Mac OS X (v10.6.4)
Video display card / driver version: Quadro FX4500
I examined the blu-ray file streams created by encore cs5 with VLC. The slide transitions (cross dissolve) were about 2 megabytes each and played correctly, but the slides themselves seem too short at around 300kb and don't play back at all. Video Blu-rays work fine; the problem only shows up on blu-ray slideshows. When that same slideshow is burned as a dvd, by the way, it also works fine. What's going on?

I have just the same problem with Encore CS5 running on Windows 7 64 bit:
When i create a slide show with music,the length of music defines the
length of the slide show every thing works fine when i play the e show with preview
function in Encore. When i burn it on a blu ray disk it works fine
(in sync) playing the BD disk on the PC, but when i play the BD
when i play the BD disk on a BD player (Sony BDP-S300 or BDP-S470) the music
stops many seconds before the slide show is finished.
Burning the slide show with Encore on a DVD everything works correct.

Problem with Photoshop CS4 after migration to new Mac

I just migrated from an old Mac to a new Macbook Pro running Mavericks. I'm having a problem with Photoshop CS4. Specifically, two things:
1) When I open an image in Camera Raw, I get this error:
Fatal error - missing component
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.0/VersionCue.framework
2) When I try to save anything, it tells me it can't because of a program error.
I've looked around for a solution. Apparently I had to install Java, but that hasn't solved the issue. A couple of people mentioned that reinstalling would work for a similar problem. My problem with that is that my disk is on the other side of the world and my new macbook doesn't have a disk drive anyway. So I logged into my Adobe account hoping to see a download link for software I have licences for, but there isn't one.
So my question is firstly, whether there is a simpler solution to the errors I am getting and, if not, if there's a solution to reinstalling Photoshop CS4 without the disk.

Did you use Apple's migration tool? It misses a lot of support files, especially in the Application Support directories.
You'll have to copy those files manually, or reinstall the app.

Problem with remote control and Windows 7 - HP Pavilion 6301eu

I installed Windows 7 32-bit and my remote control does not work. I have tried all possible drivers and still nothing ... Photo driver attached. Does anyone have a link to the current drivers for the remote control and Windows 7? thank you
