Success in connecting G3 to N

I just got the Extreme, & like a true Mac guy, just stuck the cd into the computer, installed the programs, hooked up the product, & figured it would probably work. Used Airport Utility to set up maximum protection. My G4 tower, my son's really early version G5 iMac, and my wife's G4 PowerBook all connected to the wireless network with no problem at all. But my leftover 10 gig G3 iBook, which probably has a version minus airport card, wouldn't connect. I kept getting an error message telling me that my password was incorrect, which it wasn't.
Now, my G3 runs 10.3, while my others run 10.4. So what I did was disengage all the password/security stuff using the Airport Utility program. No WEP, no WAP, complete bare. I shut down all my other computers in case someone was cruising around searching for passwords & such.
At that point, my G3 easily joined the network. I then downloaded all the software updates that were available, installed them, basically upgrading my 10.3.5 software on the G3 to 10.3.9.
Restarted all my computers, reset the maximum password/security protection, & lo & behold, the G3 password was accepted by the Extreme, & now all my computers are linked to the network.
I'm posting this just as a suggestion to people having problems connecting to the Extreme that they need to make sure that their OS is updated as far as it can be taken. A G3 with a stoneage airport card running 10.3.9 WILL connect even using passwords.
For the record, my download rates seem to be a little faster than before. But what I was really looking for was to extend the range of my wireless network. My attemps to use Express, & Dr. Bott extendAir antenna, with my old flying saucer Airport totally bombed. But the Extreme has given me the extra range I wanted.
In the short time I've been using Extreme, it seems to me that it is the least buggy of any of the Airports I've had in the past. The saucers - my own & those of my friends - would go on the fritz now & then. And the Expresses were unpredictable - sometimes they'd work, other times they wouldn't. But so far, the Extreme is just chugging along nicely.

I'm trying to get my iMac G3 to communicate with the router in my new shared house, but keep running up blind alleys. The iMac has been upgraded to 10.4. Trouble is, I don't really understand enough about how the internet connection works. The router is Netgear wireless, but initially I'm just trying to connect to it with a wire.
Are you using the thick ether net cables? They are thicker than a phone line.
At first the message was that my modem didn't support V.92,
This means you were trying to use the telephone connector. Wrong move.
so I bought a Speedtouch 330 USB modem and managed to install it.
Why did you make this conclusion? These connect direcly to the telephone line but you already have a netgear router.
Now it says it can't negotiate with the router and to check my settings. I have a WAP security number but don't know what to do with it! Maybe it's a hopeless cause, but I'm still up for persevering! Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong?
Please describe your current set up.

Please list the exact name & model number of you router.
Start by using an ethernet cable to connect to the router. Most routers have cable ports.
Get the most knowledgeable person in your household to cable your computer to the router. The cabling is all the same.

the ethernet link is all the way to the right. It has <-> over the port.
Configure. You might want to define a new location.

  • Can't print wirelessly to HP6500 that is successfully connected

    I am getting Error-Printing when try to print anything to wirelessly connected HP6500 Wireless.
    Printer is successfully connected to wireless home network: Wireless Network Test Report gives IP address and says all status is PASSED.
    When type IP address in explorer window, can successfully view printer information, says it is connected wirelessly.
    But when I try to print a document, including test page, get error message that printer is not connected.
    I HAVE used this same printer connected via USB before, but went and re-installed drivers and added the device wirelessly with latest driver download from HP.
    What am I missing??

    Just for printing purposes, you can go to you Printers and Faxes window(Printers for Windows 7 and Vista), click on add printer, Add local Printer, it'll ask you for the ip address then eventually you should be able to print.
    Or if you needthe full functionality(Including Scanning), insert the disk>go to my computer>right click on cd-rom drive>explore/open>util>ccc>uninstall_l2>restart the computer
    -run the installation again
    ...and boom! you'l be able to print and scan wirelessly!
    I just hope my replies will help you solve your problems!

  • How do I maximize the chance of a successful p2p connection?

    I understand that the p2p connection may not be possible, and sometimes even the stratus connection may not be possible, but I would like to know any steps I can take to help improve the probability of success. Are there any recommendations on guidelines on this?

    if you have a firewall, ensure it allows outbound UDP (and associated return traffic) to ports 1024..65535 inclusive.
    if you have a NAT, make sure it isn't a symmetric NAT, or isn't set to symmetric mode.  symmetric NATs are inherently defective* and should be reconfigured (if possible) or replaced.  your NAT is probably symmetric if, when you go to
       http://cc.rtmfp.net/
    you get "No" for either of "source IP address is preserved from original connection" or "source UDP port number is preserved from original connection".
    if you want to talk to other computers on your own network, don't use additional NATs behind a first NAT.

  • Sqlplus returns 0/SUCCESS on CONNECT failure

    Consider ..
    $ sqlplus /nolog <<EOF
    connect sys as foobar
    EOF$ echo $?
    0
    sqlplus returns success on a connect failure. I have tried to coax it to return non-0 exit code using
    sqlplus /nolog<<EOF
    whenever sqlerror exit 1
    whenever oserror exit 1
    connect sys as foobar
    EOFBut this doesn't work, looks like sqlplus disconnects after the connect failure and both the 'whenever' clauses don't fire.
    How can I get sqlplus to report a failure exit code. I understand I can parse the response from sqlplus, but that is not desirable at the moment.
    -srp

    srp
    I wonder if this is port specific? I only have access to Windows at the moment so can't tell.
    From the docs, it looks like expected behaviour; WHENEVER SQLERROR only fires if a SQL or PL/SQL fails - and CONNECT doesn't really count as SQL.
    A workaround would be to explicitly EXIT with a success code != 0 when you safely get to the end of your script. Then you could assume that 0 means a failed login.
    Alternatively, you can create a marker file when you successfully login; if the file isn't there, then you didn't log in:
    rm -rf /tmp/mydiagfile
    sqlplus /nolog <<EOF
        connect sys as foobar
        host touch /tmp/mydiagfile
        SQL statements
        EXIT
    EOF
    result=$?
    if [ result -eq 0 ]
    then
       # did we get in
       if [ ! -e /tmp/mydiagfile]
       then
          # login must have failed
          echo ERROR - ... etc
       fi
    fiAny help? At least it's simpler than parsing the log file...

(This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    This works for some users. Not sure why.
    Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • Odbc connection test success but can't link the database to oracle with 1013 call failed error.

    i am using my MS Access 2013 to connect with my oracle database. I created the odbc link and successfully have connection test pass. However i can;t link the database with my MS access. When i am using different software (mapinfo), i am able to connect to oracle database. The error is"1013: user requested cancel of current operation"

    In MS access, i open the external data and select odbc. Select my odbc link created previously, enter the password and after a while the error message pop up.
    But if i am using another tools, such as SQL Developer or Mapinfo, i will able to connect to oracle database using the same odbc link.

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes Store "Error Message"

    I recently added iTunes 7.6 to my Windows XP operating system at the same time when I added an *Ion USB Turntable (TTUSB).* I currently have the 80G iPod with the larger video screen. I added in the supplied software of the EZ Vinyl Converter. The software reads from Gracenote and imports into iTunes okay. But now my PC cannot access the iTunes store to buy songs, read the tracks on the discs, or display new album artwork. The diagnostic read the network connectivety test, the CD/DVD drive, and iPod connectivity tests all read okay. I followed the directions on checking the network settings under the Internet Options Tool "Connections" Lan Settings and the Automatic detection and still no dice. All I get is "Make sure your network is active."

    I'm seeing this error on some, but not all, of my Windows XP machines. On my personal development XP box, I see this error if iTunes is closed when I try and access iTunes U via my transfer script or Stanford's.
    "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was terminated unexpectedly. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
    The errors occured in IE 7 Beta, Firefox 1.5.x, and Firefox 2 Beta. In each case, iTunes U loaded after I clicked the 'ok' button in iTunes. I did notice that in Firefox's case an additional pop-up window appeared that asked whether or not I had iTunes; when I selected that I do have itunes, it transfered me to iTunes but generated the error.
    After getting these errors on my Windows XP machine, I tried it on two different lab machines running Windows XP, and didn't get the error message once -- I tried it in IE 6, Firefox 1.0.x and Firefox 1.5.x and they all worked. It even worked with IE 7 Beta and Vista Beta.
    Based on this, I think the problem must lie in how Windows registered iTunes, and the handshake just isn't happening properly.

    We have added the DB user as a user in the realm, which usually does
    the trick; but in this case it does not. We are using Merant's
    JSQLConnect type 2 driver for SQL Server, and we are running on
    Solaris. The scenario works fine using Oracle Thin driver on Windows.
    Do we need ACL entries or something? We do not have any ACL entries
    now.

  • Connection problem with new database

    Hi
    Installed new database on my windows machine successfully
    while connectting as sys user error
    ORA-12500:TNS: listner failed to start dedicated server process
    wlile connecting toad and sqlplus

    Please read the error again "listner failed to start dedicated server process". Means what, listner listened your request to connect, it tried to hand-off the connect request but due to resources problem (lack of memory) it is not possible to start server process; i.e. presumably the server is very busy at that time. If you are not able to resolve the issue, please check the unwanted services and stop them in strat-run-services.msc.

  • How do I set miminum # of connections for pool with Oracle and Tomcat?

    Hi,
    I can't seem to find any attribute to initialize the number of connections for my connection pool. Here is my current context.xml file under my /App1 directory:
    <Context path="/App1" docBase="App1"
    debug="5" reloadable="true" crossContext="true">
    <Resource name="App1ConnectionPool" auth="Container"
    type="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"
    driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
    factory="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSourceFactory"
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:oddjob"
    user="app1" password="app1" />
    </Context>
    I've been googling and reading forums, but haven't found a way to establish the minimum number of connections. I've tried all sorts of parameters like InitialLimit, MinLimit, MinActive, etc, with no success.
    Here is some sample code that I am testing:
    package web;
    import oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource;
    import oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import java.sql.ResultSet;
    import java.sql.Statement;
    import java.util.Properties;
    public class ConnectionPool {
    String message = "Not Connected";
    public void init() {
    OracleConnection conn = null;
    ResultSet rst = null;
    Statement stmt = null;
    try {
    Context initContext = new InitialContext();
    Context envContext = (Context) initContext.lookup("java:/comp/env");
    OracleDataSource ds = (OracleDataSource) envContext.lookup("App1ConnectionPool");
    message = "Here.";
         String user = ds.getUser();
    if (envContext == null)
    throw new Exception("Error: No Context");
    if (ds == null)
    throw new Exception("Error: No DataSource");
    if (ds != null) {
    message = "Trying to connect...";
    conn = (OracleConnection) ds.getConnection();
    Properties prop = new Properties();
    prop.put("PROXY_USER_NAME", "adavey/xxx");
    if (conn != null) {
    message = "Got Connection " + conn.toString() + ", ";
              conn.openProxySession(OracleConnection.PROXYTYPE_USER_NAME,prop);
    stmt = conn.createStatement();
    rst = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT username, server from v$session where username is not null");
    while (rst.next()) {
    message = "DS User: " + user + "; DB User: " + rst.getString(1) + "; Server: " + rst.getString(2);
    rst.close();
    rst = null;
    stmt.close();
    stmt = null;
    conn.close(); // Return to connection pool
    conn = null; // Make sure we don't close it twice
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    } finally {
    // Always make sure result sets and statements are closed,
    // and the connection is returned to the pool
    if (rst != null) {
    try {
    rst.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    rst = null;
    if (stmt != null) {
    try {
    stmt.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    stmt = null;
    if (conn != null) {
    try {
    conn.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    conn = null;
    public String getMessage() {
    return message;
    I'm using a utility to repeatedly call a JSP page that uses this class and displays the message variable. This utility allows me to specify the number of concurrent web requests and an overall number of requests to try. While that is running, I look at V$SESSION in Oracle and occassionaly, I will see a brief entry for app1 or adavey depending on the timing of my query and how far along the code has processed in this example. So it seems that I am only using one connection at a time and not a true connection pool.
    Is it possible that I need to use the oci driver instead of the thin driver? I've looked at the javadoc for oci and the OCIConnectionPool has a setPoolConfig method to set initial, min and max connections. However, it appears that this can only be set via Java code and not as a parameter in my context.xml resource file. If I have to set it each time I get a database connection, it seems like it sort of defeats the purpose of having Tomcat maintain the connection pool for me and that I need to implement my own connection pool. I'm a newbie to this technology so I really don't want to go this route.
    Any advice on setting up a proper connection pool that works with Tomcat and Oracle proxy sessions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alan

    Well I did some more experiments and I am able to at least create a connection pool within my example code:
    package web;
    import oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource;
    import oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import java.sql.ResultSet;
    import java.sql.Statement;
    import java.util.Properties;
    public class ConnectionPool {
    String message = "Not Connected";
    public void init() {
    OracleConnection conn = null;
    ResultSet rst = null;
    Statement stmt = null;
    try {
    Context initContext = new InitialContext();
    Context envContext = (Context) initContext.lookup("java:/comp/env");
    OracleDataSource ds = (OracleDataSource) envContext.lookup("App1ConnectionPool");
    message = "Here.";
         String user = ds.getUser();
    if (envContext == null)
    throw new Exception("Error: No Context");
    if (ds == null)
    throw new Exception("Error: No DataSource");
    if (ds != null) {
    message = "Trying to connect...";
    boolean cache_enabled = ds.getConnectionCachingEnabled();
    if (!cache_enabled){
    ds.setConnectionCachingEnabled(true);
    Properties cacheProps = new Properties();
    cacheProps.put("InitialLimit","5");
         cacheProps.put("MinLimit","5");
    cacheProps.put("MaxLimit","10");
    ds.setConnectionCacheProperties(cacheProps);
              conn = (OracleConnection) ds.getConnection();
    Properties prop = new Properties();
    prop.put("PROXY_USER_NAME", "adavey/xyz");
    if (conn != null) {
    message = "Got Connection " + conn.toString() + ", ";
              conn.openProxySession(OracleConnection.PROXYTYPE_USER_NAME,prop);
    stmt = conn.createStatement();
    //rst = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT 'Success obtaining connection' FROM DUAL");
    rst = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT user, SYS_CONTEXT ('USERENV', 'SESSION_USER') from dual");
    while (rst.next()) {
    message = "DS User: " + user + "; DB User: " + rst.getString(1) + "; sys_context: " + rst.getString(2);
    message += "; Was cache enabled?: " + cache_enabled;
    rst.close();
    rst = null;
    stmt.close();
    stmt = null;
    conn.close(OracleConnection.PROXY_SESSION); // Return to connection pool
    conn = null; // Make sure we don't close it twice
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    } finally {
    // Always make sure result sets and statements are closed,
    // and the connection is returned to the pool
    if (rst != null) {
    try {
    rst.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    rst = null;
    if (stmt != null) {
    try {
    stmt.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    stmt = null;
    if (conn != null) {
    try {
    conn.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    conn = null;
    public String getMessage() {
    return message;
    In my context.xml file, I tried to specify the same Connection Cache Properties as attributes, but no luck:
    <Context path="/App1" docBase="App1"
    debug="5" reloadable="true" crossContext="true">
    <Resource name="App1ConnectionPool" auth="Container"
    type="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"
    driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver"
    factory="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSourceFactory"
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:oddjob"
    user="app1" password="app1"
    ConnectionCachingEnabled="1" MinLimit="5" MaxLimit="20"/>
    </Context>
    These attributes seemed to have no effect:
    ConnectionCachingEnabled="1" ; also tried "true"
    MinLimit="5"
    MaxLimit="20"
    So basically if I could find some way to get these attributes set within the context.xml file instead of my code, I would be a happy developer :-)
    Oh well, it's almost Miller time here on the east coast. Maybe a few beers will help me find the solution I'm looking for.

  • Internet connection via Airport Extreme/router thats not working, why?

    I have been having problems with the internet connection via Airport Extreme which I find it a bit unusual and its still driving me nuts! This is what happened:
    I have lost my internet connection last Sunday evening upon my return from a weekend away from home. The last time I have used the internet connection on my macbook was the previous Friday morning. Prior to the apparent disconnection on Sunday, I have always used my internet connection wirelessly through Airport Extreme (that is connected via ethernet cable to the NETGEAR DG834v2 ADSL modem which had worked beautifully until the problem arose on my return). This wireless internet connection allowed me to surf the internet anywhere in my home.
    However, upon the successful re-connection to the internet via the modem router, I have discovered several new problems. I have tried to set up the internet connection wirelessly again but instead the following happened:
    1. Router (Netgear) drops ADSL connection and cannot reconnect when connected to airport via Ethernet. (which is the case when using airport wireless).
    2. Router connects to ADSL fine when computer is connected to it via Ethernet. (However, router disconnects when magsafe power adapter is taken out for some inexplicable reason!)
    3. Router connects to ADSL fine when nothing is connected to the router (ie. No Ethernet connections)
    4. Router connects to ADSL fine when connected to airport via Ethernet and computer is connected to airport via Ethernet.
    So from the above, I cannot connect to the internet properly whether wirelessly or not so I suspect it could be faulty router or could it be airport extreme? I have asked my ISP for an explanation and all they have said is that it cannot be the mis-configuration but could be to do with the power adaptors or the way plugs are set up and suggested I take out all the power plugs (and power surge protector) out to switch everything off, the macbook, router, printer and airport extreme. However, when I have re-plugged them all back in, the problems I have described above still persists!
    Would appreciate any help if anyone here recognises why this is the case and what seems to be the cause of this. If so, what should I do? Though I have written back to my ISP again yesterday for more help so im waiting to hear from them...
    Thanks
