Success with iCloud!

Hello,
I've finally cracked the code with iCloud and word processing.  The answer, at least for now, is that the problem is not iCloud.  The problem is in Pages, which requires a manual update to iCloud.com at every session.  Now that I've changed to IAWriter, which allows updates to iCloud, everything is seamless and automatic, even better than DropBox!

  • Can Multiple email accounts on Galaxy S4 sync with iCloud & non-iCloud email?

Hello… has anyone successfully set up multiple email accounts (iCloud/Yahoo/AT&T/etc.) on their Samsung Galaxy S4 Jelly Bean 4.2? I searched the forums and it has been said that configuration settings depend on the combination of wireless service provider + device model + email providers + Android version.
My S4 is from AT&T and if this scenario can't work, I have to cancel my contract in a few days (although that would be the last resort). From checking the forums, not everyone has been able to get the S4 to work with iCloud. In my case, I hope to sync up with iCloud and non-iCloud email which might be trickier.
Here is one thread that helps with settings, but doesn't seem to address multiple or non-iCloud accounts: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22435596#22435596
    Some background info…
Although Gmail just works on Android devices, I plan to primarily use Apple/Yahoo/AT&T email (at least initially).
I don’t yet have Apple mail/iCloud, but plan to. I am partially switched to the Mac (Mtn Lion), but haven’t completed the jump from Windows.
I don’t have an iPhone (so hopefully that makes the setup less complicated.)
I mostly care about email on the S4 (I’m not concerned about syncing up contacts, calendar, music, etc.).
Apologies for the long post, but hopefully I’ve included the necessary background info for the questions below:
Is it possible to setup multiple (iCloud/Yahoo/AT&T) emails on the Samsung Galaxy S4 from AT&T so that they sync nicely?
From the S4, if I reply to an email, will the Sender in the email reply be the same account which received the email? Or, (as I’ve read in the excerpt below) will the Sender for all email replies from the S4 be set from a fixed/primary account?
Although the first two questions above are the most urgent for now, I'd appreciate pointers if you see something that should be changed in the configuration settings below.
    Thanks in advance!

After spending quite some time trying to get my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II setup with iCloud mail, this is what finally worked. Thanks to everyone for the various bits that helped lead me in the right direction. For those who need lots of detail, I hope the below helps. Please don't ask me about any other specific Android phones as I'm not expert but thought someone out there could benefit from my experience.
    INCOMING SERVER SETTINGS
User Name: username (do not enter @me,com or @mac.com)
    Password: (enter your password)
    IMAP server: imap.mail.me.com
    Security type: SSL
    Port: 993
IMAP path prefix: p##- (you can find this by checking your account settings on your Mac. Mine was p03- so that's what I entered here)
    Press NEXT
    OUTGOING SERVER SETTINGS
    SMTP server: smtp.mail.me.com
    Security type: TLS
    Port: 587
check the box next to "Require sign-in" if it's not already checked
User name: username  (do not enter @me.com or @mac.com)
    Password (enter your password)
    Press NEXT
Your phone will check the server settings and you should be able to see your email now.
And another poster provided these additional tips…
Definitely select SSL/TLS and accept all certificates
Now here's the zinger: Authentication should be LOGIN
After figuring this out, I finally (after many hours of searching and testing) got to my outgoing server settings, which are: smtp.me.com
    NONE for security type
    Tic "Require Sign-in"
    Authentication is PLAIN
And another poster's question about the Sender's email address for multiple accounts…
Managed to get this all set up however, Android only seems to allow you to send from your primary address and only reply from your primary address even if a mail was sent to one of the other addresses.
Any ideas how to get around this as I have three addresses beneath my primary which I need to both send from and reply from.

You're unlikely to find many people with experience of configuring multiple email accounts on a specific Samsung device, here on the Apple forum for an Apple service. Try the Samsung forums for help setting up your Samsung phone.
There are a few posts with general info relating to setting up an iCloud email account on Android here if you search though.

  • Is there a solution that allows Windows XP to work with iCloud

I have had the iPhone 4s for about a year and need to retrieve the pics\videos stored on it. I work on PC's and the iPhone is my first experience with Apple\Mac products. Being new to this device I let someone else set the iPhone up to download picture media directly to my PC and iTunes was set up to sync all future media. Approximately 400 images\videos were imported to my PC with no software, programming or device errors but now the error ' the player is missing the program needed to open' the file. Apples recommends Quicktime but I didn't have success with that either. iCloud specify's Windows Vista or Windows 7, however, I used the same PC for the other videos which is Windows XP Professional. My last attempt I received an error with a message to delete PhotoStream, so I gave up. Anyone have any ideas or advice? Also, if windows Vista or Windows 7 are the only two options for the PC is there a solution for other PC users?

I have no trouble at all using my MBP with my projector, Apple MDP-VGA adapter, and standard VGA cable.
...can't do anything about the video resolution...
What does this mean? What are you trying to do without success?

  • ICloud Calendar will not sync with iCloud

I am at a complete loss here.  I have my work MBA running Yosemite and connected to my iCloud account.  I also have a personal MBP, iPhone and iPad, all running the latest OS and Patch, all connected to my iCloud account.
For 98% of it, it works and syncs perfectly.  Except for the calendar on my MBA.  Calendar works and syncs perfectly everywhere else, MBA works perfectly with iMessage, FaceTime, Contacts, Keychain, etc, etc, etc.
    Basic troubleshooting I have performed:
    Rebooted MBA (obviously)
Attempted to remove calendars from syncing with my iCloud account (unsuccessful) - will not remove calendars.
Attempted to remove entire iCloud account from MBA (unsuccessful)
i have signed out everywhere on my MBA, when I go to System Preferences > iCloud and attempt to sign out, it fails.
When I go to Internet Accounts, iCloud keeps coming back as "INACTIVE" with nothing checked.
When I go through all the apps, Calendar is the only one that shows the iCloud data (iMessage shows me as signed out, same with App Store, iTunes, FaceTime, Contacts, etc)
Rebooted MBA multiple times throughout the process, to no avail or difference
Performed a repair install of Yosemite through the recovery console
After repair install, iCloud calendars still show up, even though my iCloud account under System Preferences shows me as signed out
After repair install, signed back into iCloud to see if I could re-sync calendarsiCloud shows me as signed in and Calendars as successfully setup
Upon launching Calendars, i get the spinning wheel in the top left of my calendar app and new calendar items created on the MBA do not sync with iCloud (website or other connected devices)
Created new calendar item on other devices as well as iCloud website, calendar item never shows up on MBA
So, aside from a complete format of the hard drive, can anyone think of any options I haven't tried?  Or some way to completely reset one app (such as Calendar)

Needed to add some clarification here:
iCloud shows me as signed in, but Calendars are NOT checked
Internet Accounts shows Calendars as syncing

  • HT5058 Syncing Exchange Account in iCal with iCloud

I have successfully added an Exchange account calendar to my iCal. Problem is I can't get my Exchange calendar to sync with iCloud.
How do I get my Exchange account calendar to sync with iCloud since they appear in different sections? Thank you.

I think I have a solution: delete the shared calendars from your iCloud calendar list and then log into your husband's iCloud account. Stop sharing all the calendars in question and re-share them again to your iCloud e-mail address.
I had to do this very thing and lo and behold, the new invitations took just fine and now, no more 403 errors. So, the source of the problem would appear to be a server-side permissions or backoffice kind of problem. The workaround is to delete the sharing properties (i.e. stop sharing) and then re-share the calendars again. I think maybe now with this information, Apple should be able to home in on a real fix but until then, try this workaround. Hope this helps you.

  • IWork apps no longer sync with iCloud. I am on iOS 5.1,1, and this problem is several days old, before it was working fine. Anyone has an idea?

iWork apps no longer sync with iCloud. I am on iOS 5.1,1, and this problem is several days old, before it was working fine. Anyone has an idea?

Sadly this is not a new problem and I would not expect a forthcoming solution.  I bought an iPad 3G and the iWork suite at the end of August and iCloud syncing worked fine.  About the time Apple rolled out iOS 6 the syncing stopped working for me (without me upgrading or changing anything).  It has never really worked since.   Run iOS 5.1.1 on both the iPhone 4 and iPad 3G.  The "geniuses" claim that Apples iOS 5 requirement is not correct and that I MUST upgrade both to ios 6 (although I know for fact that lots of folks STILL have the iCloud probs even with its 6.  The last genius basically shrugged and non-verbally acknowledged the iCloud/iWork failing and suggested "just use Dropbox.". So why the **** did we pay for iWork!?!?!
Basically the  iwork/iCloud Connnection is broken and I have yet to get a viable solution to repair the issue.  Sorry for the bad news.  For reference I have uninstalled/installed each iteration of iWork upgrades on each device without success.  I have reset all settings multiple times, turned iCloud off/on repeatedly etc etc without success.  I even wiped the iPad and restored from iCloud w/o intention (another Apple IPad "glitch" when I tried the "reset all settings" and the iPad decided to "erase all" instead.  The genius said "it happens.")
Oddly, the Pages app is the only one that has marginally worked at times since the first probs.  However it is basically broken and non-functioning.  Certainly DO NOT trust vital documents to iCloud/iWork.  I lost a number of work critical docs in this whole annoying, messy process of trying to get what Apple promised as easy....

  • I still don't totally understand the difference on my iPhone between PhotoStream (with iCloud icon), Photos (the icon) and Albums and Camera Roll (under Photos icon) and and Camera Roll (under Camera icon).  I want to delete photos from my iPhone 4.

I  don’t  understand the difference on my iPhone between PhotoStream (with iCloud icon), Photos (the icon) and Albums and Camera Roll (under Photos icon) and and Camera Roll (under Camera icon).  They seem to be more or less the same thing, but deleting photos in one place does not delete them elsewhere.
When I tried to import from my camera to my iMac computer the computer would not recognized 900 of the 920 photos on the camera so I had to (successfully) use the Image Capture application to import them.
I want to delete photos from my iPhone 4 in order to free up storage (I only have 8GB.)  But in synching I do not want to delete any images from my iPhoto on my computer.
Is there a way that I can Delete All under Edit in either Photos or Camera on my iPhone and check about 20 ijmages to remain on the iPhone?  I could find no command to Select All and then uncheck the 20 photos I want to keep.
I have the 8GB iPhone and the iMac with OS 10.9.2 and iPhoto '09 Version 8.1.2.
    Help!

I have Version 6.1.3 because the clogged storage will not allow me to upload Version 7.1.  Catch 22.  This is basically a storage issue, I believe.  I cannot delete enough stuff on my iPhone to allow me to either back up or upload the new OS 7.  I am unwilling to pay for more storage in iCloud, so I want to delete stuff I don't need.  But I haven't yet figured out how to successfully do that.  I synch my phone and computer.  I want to delete mail on the Mail app and photos and still keep my photos on my computer on iPhoto, but not on my phone.  I seem unable to do that.  Any advice?

  • Trouble with iCloud

    Trouble with iCloud:
    Equipment:   Mac mini,  OSX 10.7.4
                        iPod iOS 5.1.1
I have done and then repeatedly reread the iCloud instructions on each.
I have up to date copies of Pages running on both devices.
The Pages documents appear on both devices when I look at the iCloud display. There appears no way to download these documents on the Mac mini.    I have tried to upload current documents written on Mac mini (including this one) with no success. There appears to be no ‘save to Cloud’ function.   In addition, there appears to be no way to give a document made on the iPod its own name.  I have  Blank,  Blank 1,  Blank 2 etc.
The other iPod application that is using iCloud is DraftPad
I have no way to determine if Calendar  information is going through iCloud or if it is going back and forth by way of the normal synchronization process.    On the iCloud display I have checked Calendars and Documents & Data on both devices.   There is no    active usage storage indicator bar at the bottom of the display.    When I look at  Management storage I have Pages 2 MB, Mail 1.4 KB, DraftPad 1.4KB   and Backups 0KB.  (I am keeping Time Machine backups on separate external hard drive).
As it stands iCloud is useless and not generating much confidence with me.  I think I would be much happier to make other arrangements.  I’m considering an attempt to cancel my use of iCloud.

On the Mini go to icloud.com, sign in.
    - To upload to an iOS iWorks app click on iWorks and then oh the app you want. Then click on the gear icon in the upper rihgt.. You have option to upload. To download, clcikonthe docuyment you want to download and a download button will appear.
    - To check the Clalender and otheriClud serves, just click in them after signing in to icloud.com.

  • HT1212 I have followed all the instructions listed above, but I have not been successful with unlocking my iPod. It is currently disabled due to a forgotten passcode. Are there any additional options that I have to unlock my iPod touch?

Are there other alternatives to unlock my iPod touch and reset my passcode? I have followed all instructions posted and my iPod is still disabled. Can anyone provide recommendations on this matter?

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • Overwrite iPhone contacts with iCloud contacts

How do I overwrite the contacts on my iPhone with all of my contacts on iCloud? My husband gave me his iPhone after mine was stolen and it has all of his contacts currently. All of my contacts are successfully stored on iCloud, but I don't want to turn on iCloud -> Contacts sync and have his 1000+ contacts merged from this iPhone up to my 1000+ contacts on iCloud.
I tried to delete all of his contacts from the iPhone but I no longer have the Edit button on my Contacts after upgrading the device to iOS5.
    Any ideas?

Thanks for the tips everyone. I finally figured it out.
I first put the iPhone in airplane mode so it couldn't sync. Then I went into Settings -> iCloud and turned on Contacts, saying I wanted to Merge the contacts. I was then able to start deleting Contacts (the Edit button was now available in my Contacts screen). After deleting a few contacts and deciding that would take way too long I went back into Settings -> iCloud and turned off Contacts. It then asked what I wanted to do with all of the contacts on my iPhone that had been merged with iCloud contacts (though they really hadn't b/c I'd been in Airplane mode all the while). I said I did not want to keep them. I went back out to check my Contacts and they had all been deleted. Success!
With an empty Contact list I turned off Airplane mode, went back into Settings -> iCloud and turned Contacts sync back on and my iCloud contacts started immediately sync'ing down to my newly cleaned out Contact list.

  • HT204053 syncing contacts with icloud

I am a new iPhone user.  I have an iPhone 4S and am very happy with it.  HOWEVER...after reading up on this topic, I am confused.  I have enabled my iCloud account...but...I've not been successful with the actual syncing of the contacts.  To add another dimension to this conundrum, my contacts list is from Gmail.  Perhaps this isn't possible!?!
    Help!

Yes, this is the issue. iCloud wouldn't help you in this case, because your contacts are stored on a Google server. You would have to set up your google account on your devices to sync your contacts between them. Please see this website for more information: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/3008051?hl=en&ref_topic=21369
I hope it will help you.

  • I have issues with icloud backup.

    Hi,
I am facing issues with icloud backup, i have successfully backed up data from iphone 5s to icloud with contacts, notes, calender, reminders etc.
Unfortunately i can not see the same information after logging in online from browser. After two days the data is restored to one year back icloud back up on my iphone 5s.
    Need help on this.

A backup of an iPhone using iCloud does not result in the ability to log in to iCloud and view the information (i.e., to see the actual data that was backed up). You can go on your iPhone to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > device name and see how much storage the latest backup is occupying and when it was done.
Things like Contacts that are viewable when logging in to iCloud.com are the result of having Settings > iCloud > Contacts (as an example) turned on to sync - which is a different thing than a backup.
The results of an iCloud backup are only rely viewable when restored back to an iOS device. I'm not sure any of that explanation helps with your current problem but it might help clarify the terminology that Apple uses.

  • Has anyone had problems with iCloud being blocked by corporate web security?

Has anyone else encountered problems with iCloud being blocked by the web-security on company computers?   I never had any problems with me.com, but now it appears I will be unable to check my mail via any computer at work.
Since iCloud is a portal for high-volume image and file sharing, I can understand why the site would be blocked, but it's very frustrating that this possibility would not have been anticipated, and an alternate web-mail site been set up.  Otherwise many me.com subscribers may be left unable to use the iCloud web-mail portal via computers at work or at internet cafes that may block access to potentially risky websites.
Has anyone figured out a back door to this problem?

I dont beleive its an iOS 5 Issue - i think its hardware...
Simply because i have been running iOS 5 beta's since june and there were no issues with my iPhone 4.
When i installed the GM on my iphone 4 (which is the same build as the public release) there were no issues with charging in my vehicle.
Now, charging my iPhone 4S in my car is practically impossible.
when i plug mine in, it will display the "Plugged" symbol on the battery display but not actually charge. the battery will still decrease.
then it will randomly "disconnect" and not register that it is plugged in. then appear to be plugged in, then not, then plugged in, then not.
This will repeat over and over again without actually charging and the charger being in the socket throughout.
however yesterday i left it plugged in and my battery was 9% and after the strange plugged-in behaviour i noticed it was charging normally after about 20 mins in the car.
But when i did the same journey time today, the battery wouldnt register at all.... charging has only been successful ONCE since 14th October on the iPhone 4s
No idea whats up with it...
    anybody else?
