Successfully Installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on T42P 2373 HTU

Hi Fellow Forum Members,
I didn't see this topic, so thought I would post my experiences.
I have successfully installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my T42P 2373-HTU. It was pretty easy. I did NOT have these problems which were mentioned elsewhere on the internet:
Display flickering - mentioned sometimes regarding the ATI video card
Wireless adapter problems - mentioned due to the Intel wireless 2100 3b adapter
It was very painless. Here are the steps I followed:
Bought a new hard drive (made sure to get PATA and not SATA). I bought this model from Amazon for $95, Western Digital Scorpio Blue PATA 5400 RPM 8 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Notebook Hard Drive WD3200BEVE . Note: I don't think the hard drive protection system works with non-IBM/Lenovo hard drives. So don't drop it.
Swapped out the old hard drive for the new one. Note 1: I did not do any formatting on the new drive, so I'm not sure how/if it was formatted. The Windows 7 installer did not ask me any questions about formatting the hard drive.  Note 2: My new hard drive did not come with a cover and when I put it into the main hard drive bay of the T42P, the T42P BIOS did not find the hard drive. I moved the hard drive cover from the old hard drive and put it on the new one and then the BIOS found my new hard drive without any problems. To check if you have this problem, hit F1 when starting up and enter the BIOS. Check the startup and if the hard drive is found, you will see a description for it. So it will say something like HDD:0 WD2345HWTK. If it just says HDD:0 and is blank after that, it did not find the hard drive. You can check this before you swap out the hard drive.
Installed Windows 7 (custom install as it was not an upgrade). Note: The computer reboots a couple of times. It asks after the first reboot (did not ask after the 2nd or I didn't see the question) if you want to boot from the CD/DVD drive. I tried to hit a key which would mean yes, but am not sure this was fast enough. Obviously if one boot option does not work for you, try the other.
After finishing the install, I ran Windows Update. There are several drivers that it finds, including the ATI video driver and the Intel wireless adapter driver. You have to reboot after this for the changes to take effect. Note: These are optional updates according to Windows Update, but maybe not to you
I then downloaded Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update 4. Despite not having an IBM/Lenovo hard drive, this installed and ran fine. It recognized my Thinkpad model and type. It then let me install drivers for things like the volume buttons above the keyboard, etc.
Moved my data. I put my old hard drive into a hard drive adapter and then put it in where the CD/DVD drive was. I then copied over all my old files by hand.
That's it. I was hope this was helpful for you. I was very impressed that the System Update software would install all the drivers I needed to get to the Thinkpad specific features to work.
Systems I use: T42P, T61P, Y510, A600

Just want to give an update. It's been about 1 week and I've had no problems. Signing in and out of Win 7 is very fast. Much better than with XP. Even though I have a slower hard drive with Windows 7 (5400 RPM) vs Windows XP (7200 RPM), Windows 7 is faster. Startup time is about the same, but shutdown is a lot faster, just like signing and out and logging in and out.
Wireless LAN (WLAN) configuration was painless and has worked well. It automatically reconnects when I boot and does not drop my connection when i stay logged in but switch users (this happened to me on XP with the IBM Access software).
It has been well worth the upgrade so far.

  • Installing Windows Ultimate Beta 32-Bit

Just a reminder to all that Boot Camp doesn't support 64-Bit Windows. You need to install the 32-Bit version, or you will not be able to install Apple updates from your Leopard disc.
I learned the hard way by installing twice. First the 64-Bit, then deleting and installing the 32-Bit version.
Have to say Windows 7 is quite an improvement. Everything worked flawlessly, except I can't pair my Apple BT mouse and keyboard for some reason.

Are you sure that you want to make a blanket statement that applies to the entire universe of users....?

I'm running 2006 Mac Pro, Vista Ultimate 64, Windows 7.
You need the 10.5.4 Leopard DVD or a Mac that came with 64-bit Boot Camp drivers. Or download them off Pirate Bay.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1999
There are issues with Vista 64-bit SP1 and above due to the way Apple implemented its own EFI boot manager and what Microsoft and Intel such that you get an EFI screen asking to "press 1 or 2" and have to hack the DVD ISO to remove the EFI boot menu.

  • Cant install windows ultimate 32 bit on my imac.

    Hi Andreas,
Please specify your hardware and software. Running OSX? Which version? Old hardware/new hardware?
It is not sure what your problem is: is it that the CD will not eject? Or is it that the winbdows cd is not installing?

  • It's impossible to install Windows 64 Bits on my Macbook Pro, why?

    Hey everybody,
I was tryng for three days to install Windows (8 and 7 after) 64 bits version on my Macbook Pro and I can tell you that It's impossible...
It's doesnt matter what I do, the PC does not recognize the bootable disk or usb for Windows.
    I followed these steps:
    - I downloaded the Windows 7 official ISO image to burn a DVD Setup after use the Boot Camp Assistant.
    - When I used the Boot Camp Assistant, I tried to "Download the latests Windows support software from Apple" but 2 minutes after I chose that option, the assistant alert me that the Server doesn't have the files anymore... so I had to simply use the install option BUT it requires that I put the Windows Installation CD on my PC and when I put it on it... the PC doesnt recognize it! My "solution": I mount a Virtual Drive with the ISO image of the DVD and now my Mac recognize the Installation CD so I can continue with the installation...
    - After that the PC was restarted and thats the last step that I reach because when It's tryng to start with the Installation Drive it's doesn't recognize... again!! A black screen appears with a text that say "Insert a bootable drive and press any key"... or something like that.
So I'm stuck in this step because I was tryng to use another Installation CDs, burning it again and again, tryng with Windows 8 too and nothing happens.
I tried to make an USB Bootable too but my Boot Camp Assistant doesnt have any option to make it (I read that some macbooks have an a 3rd option in his Boot Camp Assistant that prepare a USB with the ISO of any Windows Installation CD) so obviously whitout it was completely useless.
I was tryng to make a bootable dvd with UDF format (cause I read that if the cd is not in that format It doesnt be recognize in Mac as a bootable drive...).
What can I do? I know that Windows 32 Bits Systems run on my Mac but It should support 64 Bits Systems too (I was reading the compatibility of Boot Camp and Windows versions and It should run!).
    Please help me
    My Macbook Model is:
    Macbook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2010
Processor 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    Software: OS X 10.9.2 (13C1021)
    Boot Camp Version: 5.1.2 (481)

you can just download the bootcamp drivers manually
    http://www.apple.com/dk/support/bootcamp/
    and you can't
: I mount a Virtual Drive with the ISO image of the DVD
bootloader time nothing can read virtual drives you need a real dvd with the iso burned on it or to do the usb install way
have you tried to view some of the tons of youtube guides which show you step by step how to install windows on bootcamp ?

  • Installed Windows & 32 Bit But Drivers and USB ports NOT WORKING.

I bugh an HP Pavillion TS 14 Notebook that came preinstall with Windows 8.1 64 bit which I hate so wiped the drives and installed Windows 7 32 bit and now I have a big problem.  None of my network drivers work and the 2 uSB ports where I plug my mouse and other SB hardware in no longer work.
I did a back up of the SW Set up file that has all of the HP dvers for my laptop but both the network and video divers won't install. And When I try to install the drives I get the eror message saying they are not compatible with this version of Windows.
I have loked on the HP website under my laptop model which s as above but HP don't do drivers for Windows 7 32 for my laptop. And I have looked on both the Realteck website for both the Realteck ethnet and Realteck wireless network drivers but none of them work or install on my operating system. The video drivers Intel don't work either. So I am really stuck a I cannot go back to Windows 8.1 as though that 32 bit Windows 7 would work on my laptop but most of my drivers are not compatible with the operating sytem And I don't want to install 64 bit Windows as I like 32 bit.
The drivers that are not working on Windows 7 32 bit are:
    Realteck RTL8188EE 802-11b/gn witeless lan
    Realteck ethnet die and
    Intel High definition graphcs driver
Which don't work at all on Windows 7 32 bit as they are 64 bit only drivers.
So can you please post me a link bth the network and Intel graphics drvers that work with my laptop. As I have tried lots of different Realteck and raphics drivers for Window 7 but NONE of them work on my system. And None of my USB ports are working either. So how do I solve this problem?

    Hi:
Should be no problem to get W7 32 bit to work on that model.
Just use all of the drivers and software from the HP Probook 450 G0 on your model except the Audio, BIOS and firmware files.
Your model uses the Intel HD graphics driver only.
The first driver you have to install is the Intel chipset installation utility and then reboot.

Audio:  Accept the agreement.  Download and install the first driver on the list.

If for some reason, the Intel HD graphics driver from that model does not work, then use this one...

  • I installed bootcamp 4.0 4033, installed window 32 bit but can't install the drivers for some reason i keep getting error message. i have a macbook pro mid 2011 version. Please help

I installed bootcamp 4.0 4033 so that I can install windows 7 32 bit on my mac.  Everything works fine until I try to install the drivers and I get an error message stating the version of windows does not work with the drivers I am trying to install.  I have a feeling somehow I am downloading 64 bit drivers when I need 32 bit.  I spoke to Apple and they said I can't use 32 bit windows.. but that is not what the support site says (it says I can as long as I use bootcamp 4, not 5).  Also, my bootcamp assistant is version 5.. I have no idea if that matters.  Help please.. been searching online for hours.

What model/year is your Macbook Pro? What operating system version?

  • HT1338 Has anyone successfully installed Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC software inside Windows 7 Pro inside Parallels 8 inside Mountain Lion running on a Mac Pro built in 2013?

I wanted to ask if anyone using a Mac Pro running Mountain Lion, Parallels 8, and Windows 7 Pro could run XP Mode?
My experience has not been encouraging in that I progress to the end of the final mile, that is configuring XP Mode for first use, then an error message appears saying I should try again, that is I should attempt to configure XP Mode again for the first time use.  An endless loop, with no visibility into the nature of my configuration failure.
I understand my problem is a narrowly focused, microsoft-centric issue, however, I would imagine this XP behavioral Mode running inside Windows 7 Pro is a common goal for many users, so I thought this question was reasonable to ask our group.
    Please advise, and thank you.

    Hello FatMac,
I wanted to let you know that your "requires a patch" feedback looked--at first--like the piece of the puzzle I was missing.  Turned out, however, when I downloaded the 64 bit version of the patch, then attempted to install it under Windows 7 Pro, my installation was first searched, then my patch installation returned a message saying this patch was not applicable to my system. (BTW:my Windows 7 install is 64 bit) This failure to install surprised me because, based on an earlier evaluation for hardware virturalization support, my MacPro does not have virturalization hardware support.  I mean, based on this no hardware support feedback, and based on the nature of this patch, it looked as if the patch should install and set my problem right.
Nevertheless, the patch won't install, and I don't know a way to query or coerce it.  I'm approaching the point of diminishing returns with this problem.  I have two applications (Adobe Illustrator 10 and Framemaker 7.0) which will run, but they don't behave properly, under Windows 7.  BTW: I did make somewhat extensive use of the Windows compatibility tool early on, but nevertheless, FrameMaker 7 simply quits at the worst possible moment, and Illustrator 10 graphics are very often blank black areas where pallettes should be.
Thanks again for your thoughts and help.  I believed we were heading down the right track, but for reasons not visible to me, (the user), the patch that should fix this problem will not install...
If there is any saving grace to this situation, my problem is repeatable.  I mean, it's not on-again/off-again.  When I attempt to configure XP Mode for its first use, the progress bar turns red at the final second, then complains that it could not complete its setup.  Please Try Again recouts its final advice.  (Famous words marking the beginning of an endless loop:-)
Were it not for Illustrator and FrameMaker, I would not have taken us down this dark road.
So long for now, and hope to talk to you all again soon...

  • Anyone successfully installed Windows 7 x64 Enterprise on iMac running OSX 10.9.3?

I am trying to install Windows 7 x64 Enterprise onto IMac (late 2013 model) that has Maverick OSX 10.9.3 installed.  We have done this in the past, before upgrading to 2012R2, and using 10.9.2 OSX.
When I create the TS media using x64 WinPE, insert into the IMac and boot - the boot selection pulls up.  I select the USB EFI boot (only one that loads and it starts running WinPE and pulling up the Task sequence selection.  I think the issue
is with the partition table.  Before installing Windows - I exit with F8, run diskpart, which shows 3 primary partitions.  I add a 4th and format as NTFS.  I now have 4 primary partitions - none that show as EFI.  The TS starts, checks
requirements, and tried to download the preinstallation environment to the disk as the TS tells it to install to disk 0, part 4 with no formatting and fails with 0x8007000f.
If I use diskpart to clean the drive and boot with the USB  to EFI, let SCCM select Bios or UEFI, it will detect to UEFI, download the PE environment and apply the OS.  When it reboots, it does not recognize the hd, showing a flashing folder.
Any help or comments are appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I recommend you use Boot Camp to create partition.
Boot Camp is a multi boot utility included with Apple Inc.'s OS X that assists users in installing Microsoft Windows operating systems on Intel-based Macintosh computers.

  • HT5628 Has anyone successfully installed Windows 8.1 through bootcamp?

Need help installing Windows 8.1 through bootcamp.   I would appreciate any guidance since bootcamp is asking for the iso file?  How can I get the iso file onto the usb drive?

    Short answer: I cheated.
I'm running a Macbook Pro 15" Retina display without an optical drive. Fortunately, I also have a Windows 7 box that I used to create a .iso from my Windows 8.1 Pro DVD, and transfered that onto a USB Flash Drive that I let Boot Camp Assistant work with to create the volume needed to set up Boot Camp and install Windows 8.1.
I read some articles that talked about being able to download an .iso from Microsoft directly. You might want to search online or the Microsoft site to find out options for downloading the correct .iso from them. As long as you already have the product key you purchased, it's not like they lose a sale.
Other than that, I couldn't figure it out.
If you're on an iMac or have a SuperDrive there may be options within Disk Utility to read the Windows 8.1 DVD and create a .iso file from there.
Can't swear to it, but if I couldn't have "cheated" those were the things I'd have investigated.
    Good luck!

    Hi,
You must uninstall 32 bit version before you can install 64 bit version. Your machine MUST run 64 bit Operating system. Please also consider this:
