Successfully setup Airport- devices cannot join network

I've set up my Airport Extreme (green indicator light):
I created a network & a guest network. I cannot join either network with my wireless devices (they have no problem with other networks).
Is it incorrect for me to use the passwords I created in Airport Utility?

I cheated: I did a copy-and-paste and the password worked. Unfortunately I can't do that with Apple TV. Is it possible that some letters (characters) generated by Keychain aren't compatible with 'remote' input?

  • AirPort Express Cannot Join Network

    Hello all,
I've tried searching and can't find this exact issue; please forgive me it's a dup.
I just purchased an AirPort Express to use with several Windows XP machines for AirTunes and printer sharing. I already have wifi set up using a 2Wire 270HG modem/wireless router.
Using the AirPort Utility, I can see the AX and go through the steps to "Connect to my current wireless network" and then "Join my wireless network". I give it my network name, password, etc., and it reprograms the AX but is then never able to connect to in after the restart.
I initially thought this was due to using WEP (even though adding $ before my passkey did not help), but I have since switched to WPA-PSK and am having the same results. Admittedly, I wasn't sure which of the WPA settings in the AirPort Utility to select, but I've tried both with no luck.
I have reset the AX and run through the setup at least 10 times! Really not sure where to go from here, except to turn off all security on the router and just use MAC address filtering to keep out the neighbors... but this seems like a pretty bad system.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Drew

Well, it looks like I've been wasting my time.
At the end of running the Utility wizard, I get the error:
"An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure you network connection is valid and try again."
It then tells me it was unable to find the base station after restarting and forces me to quit the AirPort Utility. When I restart the Utility, it can then see the base station and everything works fine.
So, basically, I've spent the whole night troubleshooting a meaningless error message when everything was working fine.
Great. Can anyone explain why it's reporting this error if everything is fine?
    Thanks again.

  • Code 10: device cannot start Network Adapters

    Hello,
I need help, my Media Player is not working right.  I keep getting this message; code 10:  device cannot start Network Adapters.  Please help, I tried to reinstall Windows Media Player 11, I even deleted the one on my laptop it kept saying it was still there.  I went in to the Device Managers and to Network Adapters, there is one that shows it is not working properly, Toredo tunneling.
Please, Please help I need to download a document tonight.

    hey DTTODGG,
since you have uninstalled the drivers under device manager, were you able to use the "update drivers" ?
Anyway, is your system running on Win7 .. if it is, I believe that Win7 should have installed some generic drivers for you.
Also could you check under the properties of your Network Adapter, is the device enabled ? If it isn't, enable it.

  • New macbook cannot join network

I have an imac that is connected to the internet via airport extreme base station. My service provider is Surewest fiberoptic which is connected directly to the base station. No problems getting online with imac. I just bought a macbook and cannot configure it to join my network. I have the settings on the imac airport to "no security", but when I try to join network it says that my network needs a password. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem. Even more, I had the Airport Extreme protected with a password and my iBook would connect to the network with no problem with the password. But then I decided to eliminate the password and to have free access to the network, but the MacBook is still prompting for a password.
    Any clues?
    Thanks,

  • TS3304 cannot join networks on wi-fi on ipad or iphone

All of a sudden in the last week I cannot join the wireless network for either IPAD1, IPAD2 or Iphone. Does this have something to do with the updated software (5.1.1) on these devices or my Comcast router? We've called Comcast and Apple and resetting the wireless nework on the devices does not seem to help. Please advise.

Longshot, but try changing your brightness setting & then try connecting.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Get message "cannot join network or incorrect password

Neew Iphone 4 does not connect to my secured wifi network.  I am using the weakest WEP security.  All my other devices, including my old Iphone and laptop connect without problems.  I get theses messages, "unable to join *********network" or, "incorrect password".  I see from postings that this is a common problem.
    Thanks for any help.

I have found the real problem, but not the solution.
In my router I only give access to computers on an access list. Of course the IPAD is not yet there. I have to enter the MAC address of the IPAD. But where do I find that MAC address?

  • Got an error stating cannot join network.

So I recently got a used clamshell iBook Tangerine G3 and it came with an airport card. The airport found my airport extreme network, however when I try to connect to my network it said error joining network. Why? Is the card not compatible with my airport extreme base station? Do I need to change something?

Try disabling security and seeing if it works.
If it can connect to the network, then you know it's a problem with the Airport software or how the OS handles security.
If it doesn't connect without any security, then it's most likely a bad card.
Also, if it doesn't connect, you may want to try connecting it via Ethernet (if possible) and checking for updates - I know if it was recently wiped and the OS reloaded that there is at least an Airport update, along with possibly several OS updates, depending on the version of OS9 you have installed. One or more of the updates may fix your problem if it was a bug in the original software.

  • Airport Extreme - Cannot join a wireless network

I just purchased the Airport Extreme and cannot get it to find a wireless network. In the Airport Utility I receive the following messages, "Joining a wireless network….An error occurred joining the selected wireless network.". I cannot proceed past this point. When I select "manual" configure I get the same error message. I've tried repeatedly disconnecting the cable & power from the modem and the airport extreme and then restarting but nothing happens. Any advice would be appreciated!

If you have a cable modem, you will need to power it off for at least 15-20 minutes and pull the battery if is has one as it is remembering the last device (probably your computer) that is was connected to. Power it back up after 20 minutes and connect the ethernet cable to the WAN port on the AEBS.
Suggest you do a factory default reset to clear the corrupted settings and start over again on the AEBS
    Power down the AEBS
Hold in the reset button +and keep holding it in+ as you plug the power back in
Release the reset button after approximately 8-10 seconds
Temporarily, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS to help AirPort Utility connect with the device.
You will be configuring the AEBS to "Share a public IP address" and "create a wireless network. The guided setup will step you through.

  • Windows 7 notebook prevents other devices from joining network

    hey,
i've nosed around the web and the apple forums and haven't turned up a possible answer so here goes a new thread.
i have (and have had) a 100% apple ecosystem at home for years w/ no trouble: airport extreme (recently replaced a flying saucer with whatever was current as of June '11), three extremes (two from the g-only era, one newer n model, all configured to "connect to wifi network") and iphones, an ipad, and macbook pros. hunky dory, no problems for literally years.
this summer, family came to live with us and spoiled the pot with an Acer laptop running win 7 sp1 (double checking everything was up to date was the first thing i checked). w/ this new addition to our family of electronics i've had the following problem:
the windows 7 machine will stay connected to the network fine but any of the other apple devices that try to connect can't. this is true of iphones, ipad, and macbook pros (4 of them) running either Snow Leopard (up to date) or Lion (up to date). the extreme has not crashed, it's just not connecting any other devices --i.e. the windown lappy is connected and working fine.
i end up having to reboot the extreme and then things are fine. often, the windows 7 laptop is being used for skype, so there's steady traffic to it, even when other devices can't connect. the SSID is hidden, i've been flipping between WPA2 only or WPA/WPA2 which seems slightly more robust. and the windows laptop is a personal machine, not configured to connect to windows domains.
any thoughts or ideas on how to resolve things so i don't need to reboot my extreme daily would be appreciated.

Just a thought, maybe un-hide your network's SSID (hiding it is of little security value anyway).  For some reason, and I don't know this to be true, but my experience with Apple products is that a hidden SSID causes wi-fi connection problems with Apple clients (but perhaps only when there's a Windows machine in the mix?)
On my network (currently a Linksys router, soon to be AirPort Extreme) if I hide the SSID then only my Windows boxes will reliably connect -- the iPhone, iPod, and Mac all go "duh?" and lose connection.  Maybe in an all-Apple network this doesn't happen, but based on my experience and that of others I'm wondering if its your hidden SSID that's causing the problem.

  • Cannot join network with ipod touch

Please help - I just got the ipod touch and got the january software update. I want to have email & web surfing capability. When I try to join my home network, it asks for a password. I've tried my wireless network key, and my computer password. Nothing works. Does ANYONE know what I should do? Does this have anything to do with wireless network settings? Servers? Addresses? What information should I be entering onto the touch?
    Thanks!

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It wants your wireless network key when it asks for a password. It is worth proving the connectivity without security enabled but you don't want to remain like that for long.
A WEP network key (plain text) must be 5 characters long for 40bit WEP or 13 characters long for 128bit WEP. If the WEP key is in hexadecimal (10 or 26 characters) try adding a $ infront of the key.
Actually WEP can be cracked in a couple of miniutes so I'd advise switching your router to use WPA encryption. WPA is much more secure and you can use any password/key you wish.
If you post the make/model number of your wireless router we can probably advise more.
    cheers

  • Airport card not joining Networks with passwords?

    Hi everyone,
I'm having this problem where my computer WILL NOT let me join any network with a WPA password or WEP.
It only works when I take off the password to my router, and I don't want people stealing my internet.
I installed every update I could possibly do, but still nothing.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

I used a decent password and it was converted to abunch of random numbers, I entered those in three possible ways
(without spaces, with spaces, with all the letters not capitalized, with them all capitalized, etc)
and it STILL WON'T LET ME IN!!!!!
on the WPA whenever I put the password in it does the same, won't let me in.
It had WPA2 which was WPA compatible.
    and it's a belkin N+ router.

  • Cannot join network

IPAD recognizes my network. When I tap it I have to enter the password. Then I get the message "Unable to join the network "My_network""
My Wrieless router is a Draytek Vigor 2900, Channel 6 (2437 MHz), Mode WPA/PSK only, WPA Encryption mode TKIP with a 44 character password.
How can I configure IPAD to be able to join this network?
    Thanks
    marc

My iphone 4s cannot join a public unsecured network, but my ipad and macbook can with no problems.  I have reset the network settings on the iphone twice.  Both times that fixed the problem but only for a few minutes, then I get the "cannot join network" message again.  Please help!  What can I do?

Anyone have any ideas or information to help with this?  Any help and consideration is MUCH appreciated.

  • I can't get my new Extreme to configure my existing Airport devices.

I'm replacing an older Extreme which connected to several Airport devices using 802.11n at 5ghz. The new Extreme is the latest version from the Apple store. The new one works fine - I can get to the Internet etc., but I haven't been able to get it to connect with the other Airport devices on my network.
I have the IP addresses for each of the devices to be connected, and I have the correct passwords, but when I try to configure them in Airport Utility it starts as though it is going to read the configuration but then says it is unable to do so. I saw a support article saying this could be because IPv6 is not turned on, but I've checked and it is.
When I go back to the older Extreme, it sees everything and the network works fine.
I'm accessing via a two year old MacBook Pro. OS is 10.10.1. Airport Utility is 6.3.4. In both cases, my settings are to create a network in bridge mode.
I'd be grateful for your suggestions please.

When you change the network you need to do full factory reset on all the airport devices.. and redo the setup from scratch.
If you have issues doing that then you need to plug in via ethernet to whichever airports are not working and manually fix them.. you cannot do it automatically or by wireless since you have changed the network around.
