Successfully Synchronizing My Palm TX to My New Hewlett Packard Pavilion dv6663 Notebook (Windows Vista Ultimate)

My Name is Steve, I am a psychotherapist, not a computer expert.
I got my Palm TX to work (synchronize) after severals days of failed attempts.
I just purchased an Hewlett Packard Pavilion Notebook a few days ago (dv6663us).  I wanted my palm pilot to synchronize with it but could not get past the 32 bit technology difference of the USB port and the 64 bit technology of Window Vista Ultimate.
I downloaded the new Palm Desktop Beta software.  I went to the computer store and purchased a Bluetooth wireless adapter for $43.00.  Hewlett Packard makes one that looks like a USB high speed flashdrive, it is about 1 inch long and you just plug it into the USB port (HP bt450).  I plugged it in, I did not have to load software, it was automatically detected and installed.
I went to the Control Panel; Network and Internet; Network and Sharing Center.  I clicked on the Network and Sharing Discovery button.  Then, I went to the; See Also Bluetooth Devices.  I had to make sure the palm pilot was set to detect other networks.  I had to make sure the computer was set to allow itself to be detected.  I told the computer to search for a bluetooth device.  I promted me to enter a password.  I entered one.  Automatically, the palm told me to enter the same bluetooth password.  I  also went to the hotsync icon on my Palm TX.  At the top of the page, I selected local.  I defined a bluetooth connection to my computer named STEVERIOS-PC.
When I went to synchronize.  It worked.  I feel so clever.  It took about ten minutes for the first synchronization.  After that, the average synchronization duration was just about one minute.  I was so proud and relieved!
For me, bluetooth makes more sense than WIFI for synchronization.  Here is why.  I keep my WIFI at home, take my laptop to work and I need to sychronize in a portable way.  The little bluetooth plug in made the most sense.  The guy at the computer store discussed his experience with synchronizing a device using WIFI and decided it was not worth the hassle.   The bluetooth was better for a mobile device and a mobile computer.

Very helpful experience - thank you for sharing.
This is a good approach for managing HotSync in a 64-bit era.

  • Problem with the new 64-bit edition of iTunes -- Windows Vista Ultimate

Very recently, I upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit to the 64-bit edition. I also downloaded the 64-bit edition of the Windows-based iTunes.
My individual iTunes music files were stored on a separate internal hard drive that was never a part of the upgrade overhaul (C: drive was upgraded to the 64-bit edition; my iTunes files are located on the D: drive).
After opening iTunes, I immediately went to Edit > Preferences > Advanced (tab) and changed the "iTunes Music folder location." I located my iTunes folder on the D: drive and clicked "Select Folder."
Unfortunately, nothing happened. Meaning, iTunes does not recognize any of the files located within this iTunes folder. This is the exact same iTunes folder that I used under the 32-bit edition of the OS.
I have nearly 50 GB of music files, none of which are now part of my music file library.
    What's going on?

    Chris CA wrote:
If the songs are not tagged correctly (title, album, artist at a minimum), they will go into Unknown.
If they are tagged correctly, go to iTunes prefs -> Advanced and uncheck *Keep iTunes music folder organized* then close the prefs.
Re-open prefs and recheck *Keep iTunes music folder organized*.
All my music was imported from CDs using iTunes.
After unchecking "Keep iTunes music folder organized" it doesn't make any difference. Virtually everything is in "Unknown."
I can't believe this..... it's like iTunes doesn't recognize its previous handywork.
    Very frustrating!
If anyone know a way to quickly clear this up, let me know.

  • Why can't I install newer version of iTunes on my Windows Vista Home Premium?

    Hi!
Why can't I install newer version of iTunes on my Windows Vista Home Premium?
I states that I am missing essential files in order to install. It doesn't say which ones.
Tried to uninstall the old iTunes so now I'm caught without iTunes.
    Any thoughts?

  • Adding new Visualizer(s) to iTunes for Windows (Vista/7 64-bit)

I was actually kinda curious, not really a technical question, but are there ways to add other visualizers into iTunes? I ask this in particular, as I have worked with Macs before, and I fell in love with the Jelly visualizer from 10.5, and would love to have that same one running on Windows Vista. Any suggestions as to where other visualizers can be obtained, or how to port one over from Mac to PC?

That version is quite old now, though its fine if you don't have a device that requires a newer version for syncing or want to use the latest features. Should you want to bring things up to date howver, and have problems updating, then for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • New Macbook Aluminium 2.0Ghz with Windows Vista

I am looking at getting the new Aluminium Macbook 2.0GHz. I am wanting to also run Windows Vista with Parallels. Will this machine handle running Leopard and Vista at the same time without any problems?

I run leopard + Xp at the same time, and Xp starts up in just about 13 seconds (pretty quickly), and it works pretty good for what i needed it for (not games, if you want games do it through bootcamp). Anyways answering your question it should work properly except i sugget having 4 GB RAM and not expecting to be the fastest machine running vista since some of the resources will be used in leopard (but you should be fine anyways)

  • New Apple OS reminds me of windows vista

My IPad 2 was working just fine until I dowloaded the new operating system. Now it takes forever to load my Yahoo mail and is very frustrating.
The problem is not with my internet speed . It was working great. I find it hard to believe that Apple didn't do a better job Of testing.
I hope they can fix this otherwise it will be like windows vista. Everyone went back to windows 7 because the new and improved vista sucked!

8.0.2 is available, update to it. I've been using for almost a 1.5 hrs. Your speed will be back. Still some little bugs, but nothing that will stop you from being able to use.

  • HT5470 How can I get the driver for my new ipod nano 7th gen for windows vista?

Recently  purchased a Nano 7 to replace my 3rd generation struggling to connect to my windows vista laptop and Im looking for the driver, can anyone help?

The driver you need to connect your device to Windows is installed during the iTunes installation. So if you already have iTunes installed, verify if it is updated. If it's not, then update, If it is already updated download a new .exe file from the Apple page, and reinstall it:

  • New Macbook Mouse Work fully in Windows Vista?

Does the new MacBook's mouse technology allow for full functionality when running on windows Vista?
    Thanks

So far, as best I can tell, the answer is a disappointing "no." I've found that if I click the mouse with three fingers, Windows will recognize this as a right-click (instead of clicking with two fingers in OSX). This really isn't a big deal. What is a big deal, though, is that the mouse often behaves erratically, sometimes recognizing a single click as a double click or vice versa (I've tried playing with the mouse settings in the control panel to no avail) and often the mouse will jump around when clicked. It's been a pretty frustrating experience thus far. Keeping this in mind and considering also the clicking issues in OSX, the new mouse, while very sleek and helpful as well, doesn't seem to be up to par. Apple needs to respond to these issues.

  • New MBP 17 inch Problems with Windows Vista, and BF 2142

    Hello!
So I just have 2 little issues that bug the **** out of me. OSX runs flawless. I love it.. But I use Vista to run Battlefield 2142.
So my first issue is the microphone. If I go to close the lid of the MBP, I get feedback from the speakers, and microphone. Even though I have the microphone on mute for Vista, it doesn't mute the microphone all the way.
If I Hook up a headphone to the output jack I can close the lid since it disables the MBP speakers.. But all my tapping and grunting can be heard via the heaphones.
Does anyone know if there is a fix? Or why the **** Vista isn't muting the device properly?
Now my other issue is Battlefield 2142.
I can get it running only when I have a External monitor plugged into the MBP, and the Lid is closed.
If I try to run Battlefield 2142 without a external monitor, and using the Display of the MBP, it crashes.. I have tried a ton of different Resolutions, and it is always the same story each time.
If anyone else has had these issues, and has found a solution, please share.
    Thank you!
P.S Oh, another thing. I have a Quad G5 that I run Logic Pro on. It came out right before the Intel Mac Pro machines. If I sold the G5, and and used this new Macbook Pro, would the Macbook Pro that I now have perform better than my older G5 in Logic Pro?

found a fix. has to do with the ini file... just had to do more searching on google.

  • New HDD won't install OEM Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

New Satellite laptop, Win 7 64 bit system., but just put a new 1T hard drive in and new Win 7 Ultimate OEM disc. Boots from the disc, but then I get a black screen with orange stripe across the top...on the screen it says "Starting Windows" but
no instructions, or steps to follow...what is going on?

Yes. you can try with the restore disc. It should work.
I've read few articles here on TechNet regarding 'Starting Windows' issue (without vertical orange line though), and almost all of them ended up with hardware incompatibility issue.
Could be that 1TB hard drive is not compatible with the laptop, or you have to change some settings within BIOS.
But try with Home Premium restore first. Worth to try.
    1. Boot into the repair disc / Windows installation disc
    2. Select "Reimage your computer"
    3. Connect the disk which contains the backups.
    4. Choose the recommended system image or choose a different one if you wish.
    5. On the next page select the time period of the image you want to restore to. Click Next.
    6. Now choose "Format and repartition disks".
Go ahead and complete the wizard.

  • Palm Treo 700p Cannot install. Windows Vista looking for Drivers

Installed Palm software and synced on my Dell with no issues.
Went to install on 2nd PC with Windows Vista Home.  Issues.  Got new download for Vista 32 and downloaded off site.
Same error puts me in a circle.  System finds new hardware.  Looks to install driver.  Can't find Drive on CD or Hardrive and so keeps in loop.  Cannot finish 1st "sync" without driver so install does not complete.
    Please advise:
Can I use the Palm device on two seperate PC's (One on NT running fine..now adding Vista Home).
How do I get the drive installed?
How do I be sure NOT to overwrite the data on the Palm when I sync the 1st time on the 2nd pc.
    Thanks
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Verizon)

Hello jpmill2 and welcome to the Palm forums.
    1. Please make sure that your Windows Vista account is a member of the Administrators group.  I would also be sure to check that antivirus software is disabled during the install process.
    2. You can use the Treo 700p with more than one computer.  I sync my Treo with my office PC running Windows XP SP2 and my Vista Business SP1 machine at home.  (And a Mac, just for good measure.)
    3. The USB driver for the Treo 700p is obtained by installing Palm Desktop 4.2 (bundled on the Treo 700p software disc) or by installing Palm Desktop 6.2 by ACCESS for Windows [Vista].  You should install the software first, and then connect the Treo after the install is complete. If prompted to HotSync during the install, I aways Skip it.
    4. If you Skip the HotSync during the Palm Desktop isntall, you can create a new HotSync ID on the computer with the same name as the HotSync ID on your Treo.  Then set the conduits to Handheld overwrites Desktop and then sync.
    Hope that helps,
    Alan G

  • Windows Vista 32-bit failing to start after successful recovery.

Hi all, my apologies if this has already been covered in another post, I did check but I'm new here so could've overlooked it.
I have a HP Pavilion a6442a running Windows Vista 32-bit. A couple of weeks ago it froze up, forcing me to maually shut it down, and now it will not restart. It gets so far, then goes straight to startup repair, which never seems to find any problems. I've tried system restore (to several different restore points), ran diagnostic tests, ran memory and hd tests, and tried starting up in every mode I could: no issues found anywhere and I still had the same problem. Finally I backed up my files and performed a full system recovery. It said that it completed successfully, I restarted to complete the Windows installation, it gets as far as "please wait a moment while Windows starts for the first time....", freezes there, then restarts and goes straight back to the startup repair screen.
I'm at a loss, I've done everything I can think of. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
Have you added any hardware to the stock configuration (other than replace the hard drive or add memory)?
Did you only have the mouse, keyboard and monitor plugged in when you ran the recovery procedure?
If yes, to question 1, remove any hardware you installed that did not come with the PC, and try recovering again.
If the PC successfully recovers, shut down and reinstall your aftermarket hardware.
If no, to question 2, disconnect anything other than the mouse, keyboard and monitor and try recovering again.
If you continue to be confounded, and you can read all 25 characters of the Vista product key on your PC's case, then you can make your own Vista installation media.
This will be just a plain Vista installation and no software other than the operating system will be included.
You can install any drivers and available software from your PC's support and driver page.
Link to info below...click on the blue Windows Reinstallation Guide PDF link and begin reading the Vista info which starts on page 296.

  • Itunes 7.6 Crashes on New Windows Vista 32 bit Home Prem (64 bit processor)

I have a weird one... I have a new DELL XPS 420 PC with Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium version on a 64 bit Intel Duo Core processor... Itunes 7.6 (Quicktime 7.4.1) crashes regardless of all solutions and suggestions (Quicktime also crashes as stand alone operation)... I have tried all suggested solutions from the discussions I have found about 64 bit Vista even though I don't have 64 bit Vista- I have a 64 bit "processor"... my logical conclusion is the latest, greatest version of Itunes (Quicktime) addresses the problem with 64 bit OS but NOT 64 bit processors... IF ANYONE or ANY EINSTIENS OUT THERE HAVE ANY SOLUTIONS, WOULD YOU PLEASE PLEASE HELP?

You probably need to manually remove your gear drivers.
This thread contains a link to an article that tells you how to do it.

  • Brand new IMac can't connect to Internet while using Vista Ultimate

The subject is pretty much it, but basically.  We just bought a brand new IMac and I happened to have an old copy of Windows Vista Ultimate lying around and wanted to partition some hard drive space for gaming.  During the installation a message popped up that said Lion only supports Windows 7.  I went through with the installation and after Windows started I loaded in my old Snow Leopard CD.  I installed the drivers and went through the set up.  Everything seemed fine, but I am unable to connect to the Internet.  I plugged my desktop in via Ethernet to my router but still no Internet.  In my device manager there are many devices, including network controller, that have yellow exclamations next to them but I don't know how to update them or where to get the drivers.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I would be happy to take any steps to relay more information.  Thank you!

New motherboard. So unless you can find, and want to mess around, which is why the pdf guide and all the faqs tell you what and how to install, and that only 7 is supported.
Vista SP1 is no longer supported even by MS.
You have Sandy Bridge based system with Thunderbolt, hence it needed new device drivers.
Windows 7 64-bit SP1 Home Premium System Builder is $95
