Sudden battery drain

I love my Blackberry Curve BUT I've had untold problems since I got my first one, 2 replacements already and not a particularly heavy user.
Anyway, now over the last couple of days, my battery is draining during only 24 hours and I'm not even using it loads, picking up emails and made a few calls, but nothing excessive.
I've only had this particular one since December. Mind you they might have put my old battery in it, so the battery might be a year old.
Any ideas?
Also anyone else have this many problems? I'm so frustrated, I love the functionality of Blackberry but finding the reality very frustrating. Thinking of jumping ship in Sept when I'm due an upgrade. So it's between the Storm and an iphone.

Here are some good charging tips, please read and you'll see that many of them will apply to you.

  • Xperia Z3 sudden battery drain

Hi, I am new new to the forum and this is my first post.
I have an Xperia Z3 D6653. Lately I have been noticing that the battery has been draining faster than normal. I installed a battery analyzser app for that too.
    A few observations:
The battery drops from 12% to ~4% in matters of seconds.
When the phone is on charge at 96% it jumps to 99% and comes back to 97% and then again 99% and suddenly 100%. This was using the wall charger.
The main point which made me write this post was my idle drain. I sleep with my phone 100% and wake up at 52%. My WiFi auto sync and GPS was on. No bluetooth or NFC.
I understand there is battery drain but 48% is not understandable.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
Since google play services is using the maximum battery, it's for sure that one of the app is the culprit. ( in the second screenshot, apps usage is 74% of the total battery used  )
Uliwooly gave the best possible way to determine it.
Usually a normal phone restart could also help fix the problem.

  • Why do I have sudden battery drain?

Why do I have sudden rapid battery drain?

Davidhye is correct. The screen at lower contrast is hardly readable. That's why I said the screen quality is extremely bad. Even at 00% contrast, it is hard to read in bright neon light. It only has good readibility with rather dim light. At 50%, I almost can't read the text at all. At 0-20%, I don't think anyone can read it.By contrast, without trying to promote iRi'ver at all, my H320 has 0 steps of contrast. At 0, the screen displays text?even sharper than my Dell LCD monitor. At 50%, the text is highly readible, because only the color looks worse. Brightness at 0% (yes ZERO %), the text is as readable as ZMP at 00% contrast....believe it or not.
Even funnier, at bright day light, iRi'ver at 0% contrast is still much more readible than ZMP at 00% contrast.
Never did I imagine the ZMP screen can be that bad. About the battery, I played at normal (no equalzr) at vol 7. I asked ZMP buyers from the same seller (we bought it from a classified in a local forum), and they all have the same problem. The battery life is only about 7-8 hours max from the claim of 5 hours by Creative. I played my H320 skipping all around my music folder like crazy for?2.5?hours today, and .... I'm so proud to say, it has not even down notch !!!. Geezzz what a difference.

  • MBA 2013 screen crash and suddenly battery drains

Hello, I bought MacBook Air November 2013 in India. I am facing the same problem in my MBA after 6-7 days of buying date. Since it is my first device from Apple so I am following all instructions by the reseller and service center persons.
First I spoke to the reseller, he suggested me sometimes due to third party apps it may happen. When it happened again then he suggested me to go to service center. In between that I joined the discussion on Apple support community and started to get the comments about this issue. Then I chatted online with apple persons they instructed me to check settings of SMC and PRAM and suggested to go to service center. Then after, 3 times I have taken my MBA to service center:
1st time: they changed the settings in it and gave back to me by saying to observe the problem.
I observed it for 2 days and problem occurred. I informed to service center.
2nd time: they kept it for 4 days with them to observe and gave it back by saying that we have fresh installed the Mac OS10.9 since this issue was due to I have updated the Mac OS from 10.9 to 10.9.1
Within 4-5 days it happened again with one more problem of showing battery drain significantly by spot light. I continued to observe these issues for few more occurrences. In between that again I chatted with apple person and discussed both the issues.... amazing... again he told me the same settings as previously and observe.
3rd time: I took it to service center and told compete issue about the discussion with apple persons too. They kept it for two days and simply said that we have to chat with Apple technicians then only we say something. They chatted with Apple technicians and suggested me to keep the machine as it is till the Apple people update the firmware… When I asked… How much time it will take…? They said, “Do not know”!
Interesting point is that in front of service center person I showed this issue how screen crashes and how the battery drains happening and showing energy used significantly by spotlight. Even then those persons told me to wait for firmware update by Apple.
After take from service center, one more thing is happening with my MBA if I put my finger in front of webcam brightness of display goes dim. I do not know, how the service center persons are dealing?
When I asked to replace it or upgrade it to another machine then they simply raise their hand and we can do nothing for this. And told you have to speak with Apple persons
Now what to do? I am helpless…!!!

After take from service center, one more thing is happening with my MBA if I put my finger in front of webcam brightness of display goes dim. I do not know, how the service center persons are dealing?
Thats 100% normal, thats auto-dim as it senses the light. All of them do that.
As for the rest, your Air is in for service, this is a users board, contact Apple Inc. about any issues regarding your service calls.

  • Xperia Z1 sudden battery drain

Ive had my Xperia Z1 for just over a year and for the last couple of weeks I have had an issue where the battery will go from 30% to 10% and then power off in a few minutes. Sometimes it will be at 25% and then power off saying 0%
I have followed the advice on here, tried repairing etc through Sony bridge for Mac. I have spent all afternoon reinstalling and reconfiguring all of my apps and my phone has just gone from 25% to 0% and powered off
How is it that people are still having this issue? Surely someone must be able to provide an answer that works.
I find it incredible that a company like Sony are unable to provide an answer to a problem that a lot of people seem to be having...

Sorry i don't mean to hijack the thread but wanted to chime in that i have exactly the same problem over the last two months. For example i had 83% charge which then fell to 45% and then the phone had instant battery drain.
No unusual apps running, just browsing the net and pandora in the background.

  • Ipod touch 4g sudden battery drain

    Greetings all,
Ill get straight to the point..
ive bought the ipod touch 4g barely a month ago, and since then ive been experiencing the following battery issues..
    1. Random battery drains (put to standby for 4 hours, click it on, only 1 or 2% battery lost, however within seconds, in front of me, the battery drops another 10% without me even touching the screen).
2.I had the screen brightness at 50% no wifi/bluetooth on, with auto brightness...
    3. The same video which takes 4%, sometimes takes 12-15%, at the exact same settings with no apps or anything else on...
    4. Sometimes when the battery is at 97% or so, charging, i disconnect it...and immediately it jumps to 100%, i play music for a minute and it returns to its actual level which is 97%...
    4. I have tried restoring several times...to no avail..problem persists...
Since i had no clue about the apple return policy(being new to apple products), i missed my chance to get an immediate replacement, and i was asked to send it to an apple service centre...which kept it for a day, ran two hours of video and said the battery life was normal since it drained just 30% as it should have..
These battery level drops happen completely randomly...however they are worrying me a great deal....
Is there any way to get a replacement under the warranty?
They are not easy to reproduce, as is the very nature of the problem, and i seem to have missed out on the return policy.
If there is any way to get a replacement, for a brand new faulty ipod touch 4g, with such a random but crippling ailment, i wouldnt mind paying 20% of the price , if thats what it takes, I am that desperate.
Would be grateful for any help by apple experts on this!

On a Side note: my friend with another ipod touch 4g(32 gb, same as mine), has no such issues.

  • Sudden battery drain/not charging/lost Wifi

Hi, Over the last 24 hours i've notice my Xperia Z2's battery is draining very quickly, even when asleep. Even when it is plugged in charging, i keep getting messages saying the phone is unable to charge as it is using too much power. And previously i could charge the phone overnight fully, now it doesnt get close to 40% In addition to this ive noticed it is kicking out a lot of heat at the top of the phone, and also i can no loger connect to the internet via wifi. Everything else seems ok, and i have managed to back up my data to an sd card. I havent added any new apps recently. I've had the phone for less than a year and as far as i know it hasnt had any heavy drops or anything. Has anyone got any cheap fix ideas or will it need to be sent of for repair? Thanks in advance Simon

Hi Simon, first thing i would do is try running it in Safe Mode fo a while.....even tho you've not added any new Apps lately there could be one acting up, Sfe Mode will determine this............if no difference then my next step would be to do a PCC Repair but just double check that you do as mentioned have everything backed up. Keep us updated  http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/m-p/348008 http://support.sonymobile.com/us/tools/pc-companion/

  • Raxr M Sudden Battery Drain

I was getting great battery life until the last two days. Wifi is using between 25 - 30 %, I notice on the wifi indicator that it is sending and receiving every few seconds. I was getting three days easily on a charge now only a little over a day. I haven't added any apps or changed anything I did a couple of updates the other night. I had trouble one day with the Accuweather circle, it wasn't updating the time and temp; I rebooted the phone and it started working. I checked the running apps and don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Mine has been good since I moved and rebooted the router at work. If you go into your settings and go to battery, then if you touch the basic graph it will take you to a more detailed graph and you can see if the drain is worse at certain times. Also go into data and see if any apps are using a lot of data, also go into settings and check show wifi and it will show which apps are using the most wifi. You could have an app that is running and draining the battery. I noticed Google+ used a lot of data and I hardly use it at all so I logged out and that seemed to help.

  • MacBook Air 2014 battery drain OSX 10.9.5

    Health Information:
      Cycle Count: 62
Seeing the sudden battery drain after the upgrade to 10.9.5, any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi pandu9,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If the battery runtime on your MacBook Air is unexpectedly low, start with these troubleshooting tips:
    Built-In Diagnostic Tools
A great place to start when troubleshooting battery issues is the built-in diagnostics that are available on your Mac notebook. Review the following articles for more information on using diagnostics.
    Using Apple Diagnostics
    Using Apple Hardware Test
Note: The additional troubleshooting recommended below assumes you have run the above diagnostic appropriate for your computer and that no issues were found.
    My battery runtime is low
Identify what the battery life should be for the product you are troubleshooting.
The Tech Specs site provides Apple's battery life expectations for battery usage. The specifics for wireless web usage and standby time are included in the Tech Specs article for each product.
There are several common causes battery drain that you can minimize.
Take steps to optimize your battery life per the Optimizing Battery Life section earlier in this article.
A common cause of decreased battery life is a "runaway process." Make sure to check Activity Monitor for any runaway processes, especially after installing software updates or a new operating system. Installing updates is important to ensure optimal performance for all applications.
If you are still having battery runtime issues after optimizing your computer's performance and checking for runaway processes, test in Safe Mode. Safe Mode limits the active items on the system and allows testing in a more minimal environment. If the battery life is better in Safe Mode, you may need to do further software isolation for the items disabled by Safe Mode to determine what the power draw is while not operating in Safe Mode.
You can find these steps and more information here:

  • Sudden MASSIVE battery drain on 3GS 4.0.1

Never had any issues with battery on 4.0.1 until today. I took the phone off the charger just before 7 a.m. Central this morning. I did not have the phone hooked up to my car stereo on the way to work this morning since my car is in the shop and I'm in a rental.
So I haven't really used the phone much at all today, just a little Facebook viewing earlier. I'd say maybe 20 minutes of use total today so far. Suddenly I noticed a few minutes ago, around 12:30 p.m. Central, that the battery is showing only 33%! The back of the phone feels slightly warm through the case, also.
I checked usage, and somehow both Usage and Standby were in perfect sync at over 5 hours 30 minutes! ***?? I even watched it as the minutes ticked up one on both readings at exactly the same instant.
I checked running processes in SBSettings, and boy there were a lot of them. Only had about 20MB free memory. I got rid of everything in the list.
I also noticed that the phone was in 3G mode, even though it should be on the office wi-fi. I checked wi-fi settings, and it was set to some network SSID I didn't recognize, even though the 3G symbol was still showing at the top. I tapped "Forget this Network" and put it back on our office wi-fi.
So now it seems to be back to normal. The Standby time continues to rack up, while the Usage time isn't going up anymore. But still, what could have caused this? Usage and Standby both reporting the exact same time? I didn't really have anything "running". Several apps were listed in the process list but nothing that I don't normally use every single day. Bejeweled 2 was there, just as I left it when I last played it this morning, but it wasn't running the game or anything.
Why would this just suddenly happen today? Is there any way to see what process is actually using memory and battery? Could it have been somehow caused by that wi-fi network I didn't recognize?

It appears to be Bejeweled 2 causing the battery drain. Game Center is NOT installed on my device, as I'm running 4.0.1. Been on 4.0.1 for a month now, and never had this problem until yesterday. What could the problem be?

  • Ipod Nano 2G battery drains suddenly after completly charge , software 1.3.

I bought Ipod Nano 2G and have this problem: after Charge 4 hours, then, when I use it , Ipod suddenly restart and the battery drains near to 98% of capacity, or when I power off the nano after use it, next morning or severals hours later, the battery is completly drain, and Ipod doesn't response. he Just response until I connect to USB port of my Computer or ITrip, and show the "extremely battery low... message".
I use my ipod only in my car with my iTrip car, but some times y use it for some Long travels in plane, its works ok, but some days ago ( near to sept. /8 ) start with this failures.
It's may be related with the new software version 1.3.1 ? Itunes install it some days ago in my Ipod and start with this problems.
some one have the same problem?

Well , after all the software test to see the battery behavior, my ipod still drains all battery power, even if the ipod are in off mode. but if I play songs after full charge it plays over 8 hours (IS NOT THE BATTERY THE PROBLEM) . but some times the Ipod reboot randomly and start with 2% of baterry charge after that.
I test using 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3.1 software. and the same problem.
    therefore: IS NOT THE SOFTWARE.
So I decide send MY Ipod nano to the technical support office in my country/city using my APPLE warranty, now I just wait for the answer from the technichian.

  • My pic 3 has suddenly started draining the battery in only a few hours even when I am not using it. Might this mean something is running all the time? I recently downloaded Dropbox. How do I check? What do I do about it? Or is battery faulty? Tim

My ipad 3 has suddenly started draining battery in only a few hours. Even if not in use. Might this be because a programme is running in he background? I recently downloaded Dropbox. Might my photos still be downloading after a few days? How do I check? What do I do about it? Or might my battery be faulty? Thanks, Tim.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • Iphone 5 battery draining fast

My 22 month old iPhone 5 has suddenly started draining its battery really fast. It loses 70% in 3-4 hours. Nothing has changed in my usage and I haven't upgraded to IOS 7 or 8.  My serial number doesn't seem to qualify for the replacement scheme for certain phones bought in 2012/2013. Is there anything I can do?

You're iPhone probably is working too hard.  If the iPhone is in hot conditions, the iPhone actually works to try to cool itself down.
-Make sure it's in a cool atmosphere.
Also, all the apps you've ever used, the phone is still running.  To clear this off in iOS.6.1, you would double tap the home button and swipe up on the apps you don't want you're iPhone running.
Delete usless apps, songs, photos, or anything that's usless!
Do all this and I'm sure it'll help you're battery life! Hope this helps!

It's been over three weeks now since I upgraded my os to 10.2.1.3442 and ever since then my battery drains like mad.I constantly use device monitor to manage runing applications and even when most apps are idle and PIM is as low as 0.5%,my battery @97% would be indicating it can only last for 4hrs.This occurs all the time and no single time has been an exception.Suddenly my battery that can go even two days previously when fully charged can barely go 5hrs now.pls kindly assist with your ideas.I'v done several hard restart still no improvement.

Do you use BBM very much, such as BBM Groups?
Open the BBM app, tap the FEEDS or UPDATES tab and scroll all through that as far as you can.
Close BBM and watch the same Dev Manager in two days, let's see if that reduces the BBM usage.
