Sudden burning disc issue through Finder

hey guys.....
really not sure what this is all about so hoping you can help :o)
I'm suddenly having trouble with the discs that I am burning through Finder.....
they burn absolutely fine (both CD and DVD) ...... but once burned.... I can't then copy the data back to the hard drive (or another hard drive)
you know when you drag and drop in to the folder from the disc source? it just bounces back and won't drop.....
any ideas gratefully received!
cheers :o)

The file type I compressed in the Compressor is a DVD HD MPEG-2 .m2v for Video
You need to encode to SD MPEG-2, not HD. I guess you still are creatug a HD DVD. Please navigate the last build you made and check the name of the folders. You must have AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. Anything with HD in the name means a HD DVD.
I have only been using a Maxell blank disk. Not sure how much that comes into the chemistry.

Hope that helps !

  • Burning discs with the Finder

Thanks for taking the time to read my post!
I am not able to burn CDs in the Finder through the use of a "burn folder." Even when I have inserted a blank disc my computer tells me to "Insert a blank disc to begin."
Blank CDs do not show up on my desktop, and when I looked at the discs in Disc Utility it says that they are "read only" and have 0 capacity.
I know that the problem is not with the discs or with my drive, however, because I can burn CDs through iTunes and iPhoto. i just can't in the finder.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I was having the same problem. I changed my System Preferences > CDs & DVDs > When you insert a blank CD: and System Preferences > CDs & DVDs > When you insert a blank DVD: from "Ignore" to "Open Finder." Now the blank disc shows up on the Desktop and the clicking "Burn" actually does something productive. This sounds like a bug in OS X to me.
    Hope that helps.

  • My iPhone 5 is suddenly having audio issues through the headphone jack.

So this is a strange situation, and I'll try to explain in depth so that someone might be able to suggest a solution. As reference, I have an iPhone 5 that I purchased in late-February. I've had every other model of iPhone except for the first iPhone, so I am pretty familiar with the device. I used to be on AT&T, and switched to Verizon when I upgraded to the iPhone 5.
Two days ago, I was on a six hour road-trip, and I'd been playing my music like normal through my car's auxillary cable. After stopping for lunch, I went to plug my music again, but once the music started to play, I realized that only the drums were playing at normal levels while the vocals were very, very soft. I switched through a few different songs, and realized that all the songs were being played at different levels; sometimes the backup vocals were normal levels while the instrumentation and lead vocals were quiet, or vice versa. I decided to plug my iPhone in to charge, and when I did this, the audio levels were all normal. However, the iPhone was NOT charging. I removed the charger, and the audio went back to being weak and distorted. I went back and forth at this for a bit, trying to figure out what was going on.
Since then and after some testing, I realize that my iPhone will now only charge anywhere EXCEPT in the car charger (I simply use my USB cable that came with my iPhone and plug it into the power adapter I have in the car). This morning, I tested the audio in my home speaker system, and I had the same audio issues. Only half the song's tracks would be at normal audio levels, while the other half would be at a very quiet, almost nonexistent level. I tried plugging my charger into the phone to see if that'd make a difference, but instead of the audio going back to normal like it does in the car, the music stopped and there was just crackling and very noisy distortion sounds.
I'm super confused and not sure what to do. This has never happened to me with any of my iPhones. I am updating my software right now, and am hoping that that may help somehow. Otherwise, I'm at a loss. Any suggestions as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated!

Do the new iMacs have digital audio out through the headphone jack?
    Yes.

  • Burning disc issues

I keep getting medium write errors when trying to burn a CD in both iPhoto & iTunes.  What is causing this issue & what can I do to correct it.  Any and all help is appreciated.
    Thanks - Jeff

    Two possible easons:
    1. The Superdrive needs a clean: use a standard CD/DVD lens cleaner that utilizes tiny brushes.
    2. Poor media: try a different brand. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden and Maxell are the favourites here.

  • Issues burning discs on iTunes/ error message about burn speed

I've never had problems burning discs on iTunes until today, I tried to burn one of my playlists on a Memorex CD-R.
    - The burn seemed to be going OK at first, but the drive started making an obnoxious, loud noise by the 4th song out of 16.
    - The progress bar in iTunes then said "burning disc, finalizing" even though the CD had not been finished.
    - The drive practically launches the CD out, causing it to drop, rather than ejecting half way and holding it like usual. An error message came up saying something along the lines of, "iTunes cannot burn this CD because the burn speed is too high for the CD drive or media. Lower the burn speed in the burning pane of preferences"
    - I tried it again without changing the burn speed (which I suppose was set to maximum) thinking it was something to do with the disc. The same thing happened the second time I tried to burn the disc. The reason I didn't change the burn speed when it asked me to was because I'd never been prompted about the burn speed and I've used the whole stack of these Memorex CD's without problems.
I am trying to figure out where the problem really lies - does this sound like an iTunes issue (which needs an update except that my system does as well), CD issue or a drive issue? Is there a more reasonable burn speed I should try next time?
Any help would be so appreciated, thank you!!

Try a different brand. Highly recommended:
    FUJI
    TDK
    Verbatim
Make sure the CDs are not dirty, smudged and/or scratched.

Your drive may need cleaning. Cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.

  • Burning discs through external DVD burner

I've bought an external DVD burner as PE 10 did not recognise the inbuilt one in windows 8.1.
It does not recognise the new burner either.
How can I tell it where to burn the disc as the "burner location" box is not accessible.
I've tried burning to folder instead and this is fine for playing discs on a computer but they will not play back on a TV through a DVD player in spite of choosing this option when burning discs.
    I hope I haven't wasted my money!

Even when I select a playlist, I cannot find the burn disc option under the file tab.  How do I go about finding it?  It has always worked previously, or at least until the latest version of Itunes installed.

I bought a series pass and unfortunately epsiode 1 didn't download at all. I was watching the downloads and restarting once they stopped as I allow multiple downloads at athe same time

It sounds like you may have hidden it, in which case you should be able to unhide it : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases. (You can't turn off the hiding of items.)
But you should be keeping and maintaining a backup copy of all of your downloads and not relying on being able to redownload them - any item could be removed from the store by the rights-holders at any time, if they do then you won't be able to redownload them (nor will be able to do redownload items if you move countries).

  • Burning disc with Finder

After I successfully burned a DVD in finder, every other burn job doesn't work! I get an error saying something along the lines of a drive error. But then when I use Toast it works perfectly. Anyone else?

I've noticed the same thing. The disc burns and verify seems to reject the first disc burn, but passes the second.
However, I've used the first burn copy on a couple of different machines and it seems to be ok. So I would say that the verify is unnecessarily rejecting first burns.

  • "The attempt to burn disc failed."

    Hi,
I have an older MBP, from July of the first year they were sold...2006? Can't remember. Anyway. I am running tiger still and everything is up to date. 10.4.11, iTunes 7.6 etc etc....
Anyway. My problem is, I can't get anything to burn!! Extended hardware test does not reveal any problems...
    Here is what is happening..
I want to burn music so that I can play it in my car. I had a stack of 2 year old Sony CD-R's that I was using and they were perfectly, except I ran out of them. So I bought the same exact thing again...and iTunes spits out the cd and says "The attempt to burn disc failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error." Ok so I tried another disc. Same issue. Then I went and took one of my brothers 2 year old Sony CD-Rs and it worked perfectly. So I exchanged my new stack of cds for the same thing, same issue and returned them.
Since then I have burned a couple of movie DVDs on Sony DVD-Rs and they work fine. I have even burned data DVDs on Playo DVD-Rs.
This evening I purchased a stack of HP Music CD-Rs and guess what! My computer spit them out and said the same exact error message!!!
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Is it a Tiger issue?
It can't be hardware related because I have proven it can burn with no problem (just on older cds). Is it maybe a cd issue? Are newer cds somehow formated in a different way that will not work with my combination of hardware and software?
Maybe I should just spend the $300 and get an ipod adapter installed in my car...
    Thanks
    Adam

    Hi ASal,
If your Optical drive is reading correctly then the report suggests that there is already data on that disc and it cannot be written to again. Needless to say, only a CD/RW can be burned to more than once. Your info suggests that it is definitely a CD-R.
Double click your disc mounted on the desktop and see if there is any data on it. If there is then you cannot burn to it again. (Not without burning the data in "Sessions."-- A CD-R can have multiple burns in different sessions, but it cannot write over the top of already existing data. You will need a CD/RW if you wish to be able to completely erase and write again. See how you go. Hope this helps.
It appears that your profiler is well able to SEE the CD-R, but you still might have CD Burn issues. Have you tried just burning data to a CD-R through the Finder to see if burns successfully..? If it does, then you should be able to burn audio through iTunes too. Make sure youre not trying to fit too much data on the disc too. That is a common error with people...
Make sure the discs you are using are completely blank.
    Regards,
    Ben.

  • Mac computer won't read burned discs, need help...

    Heya,
So I'm not sure when this started happening exactly, but my Mac stopped being able to read burned discs for some reason. I've tried discs that have audio (legal MP3's) and applications on them (also legal copies of the discs) and they show up in finder but as a blank disc. I'm wondering if there was an update of some sort recently that started causing this issue somehow? Can someone help? Thanks!

    Related Problem?
I have had my MacPro for more than a year, just updated to OSX 10.6.4
I have not been able to play a particular, commercially bought DVD. No clue about the format of it. It comes up as Untitled. My MacPro has worked OK with other video DVDs and a bunch of install discs. I just discovered this new DVD player problem today, with this new DVD just bought through snail mail.
However, this same new commercially recorded DVD plays beautifully on my old 17" powerbook bought brand-new in 2006, today running OSX 10.4.11
It is sad so many bloat features seem to cloud real needs of working people, or what else could it be? My system has had some other livable problems like the fact i had to trash the much needed OSX Dictionary Application, because it started opening up a window for every word i already looked up-- This problem seems to be due to Migrtation Assitant picking up some weird police state aps or what not. It is hard to live without Migration Assistant because aps like CS4 are so hard to get running on a new system. So grin and bear it.

  • Burning discs, help! ?????

the only way i know how to burn discs is by creating a playlist in itunes and then selecting that playlist to burn and even then the disc is a music cd
im used to using nero burning rom on the pc, is there something similar to this already on macosx
basically im asking because its not always that iw ant to burn an audio cd on itunes; if i wanted to burn a data/mp3/vcd/dvd disc, how would i go about it?
    thanks in advanced

    http://www.roxio.com/enu/mac.html
Roxio Toast is a Mac versatile software package that let's you do disc burning of many different varieties, kind of like Nero on the PC.
One advantage of Toast is that this software supports many different types of optical drives that you may have added to or upgraded in your Mac, where as the Mac built-in software typically only supports selected drives that shipped in a Mac (only an issue for an older computer that might have shipped with a CD-ROM and a RW drive was added by the user) PatchBurn is a utility that can help add the native support to some drives, in the case of an upgrade drive that didn't originally ship in the Mac.
    http://www.patchburn.de/
Built-in to the Mac OS Finder you can burn single session data discs, and you can also use Disk Utility to create a disc image and then burn to an optical disc. iTunes has a preference where you can burn mp3 discs instead of Audio format, but I think this only works when you have converted the songs into mp3 format first. There is a System Preference on what to do when you insert a blank disc, you can open Finder and drag and drop items to the disc which is a temporary "Burn Folder" which lets you build the list of files, then you click the little burn icon to start the burn when you are ready. You can create a Burn Folder and save it so you can burn multiple discs of the same stuff.
Also, the iLife applications support burning your muti-media to optical drives, i.e. select a group of pictures in iPhoto and you can burn a CD or DVD. iDVD also can create custom DVD's of your iMovie projects and iPhoto slideshows, etc.
Check out one of the "Missing Manual" books from your local library, that might help learn some of the Mac language and where to find things since you are new to Macs.
Try it out, and post back if you are able to get it working or need a more detailed walk through...

  • ITunes Won't Recognize Optical Drive / Can't Burn Discs.

Hi. I’m having some problems w/ an installation of iTunes on a Windows 64 bit PC.  Specifically, when iTunes is installed, Windows 7 no longer recognizes the optical drive, and I can't burn discs via iTunes.  I’ve attempted to implement all the solutions identified here,

  • No audio on idvd burned disc- sound plays on TV fine but not on macbook DVD player

First time posting, so please excuse any naivete
Hi there, I'm having the opposite problem of many of the questions I've read on here- the audio on my burned disc won't play on my computer but is fine on my TV.  I am running the latest version of idvd on a 2008 macbook. The music for the menu is a .m4a file (?) imported from itunes and the movie is an imported project from imovie.  Both play fine in idvd preview and I have burned discs of this project before with no problems.  This time  I burned one disc through idvd, discovered the missing audio, deleted the encoded assets and re- encoded before  saving the disk image and burning another dvd through disk utility. Both dvds are having this problem .  I checked sound on my system preferences, it's on- though I can't find the "main audio" that was mentioned in another thread.  Maybe I don't have enough space on my startup disk?  I've been trashing some things to free up space, but I'm not sure where to check to see how much space I have.
I'm sending these dvds out as part of job applications so they need to be able to play right on whatever the reviewer uses (mac, pc, tv etc.)- is there a way to ensure it will work universally?
    Thanks!

Ok.  This is embarrassing.  Just saw that the sound was turned down on my DVD player on my macbook though not on my computer.  Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best.
