Sudden change in appearance of PDF files

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 - PDF document starts to display with odd fonts - CAPS are extra large and mixed fonts through document. didn't have this issue before
Did a repair, uninstall and install of Reader XI all with reboots inbetween and still no fix.
Installed FOXIT and no problems. What is the underlying issue here as I have Acrobat 9 Pro and need to use it?
Should look like:

Check under ctrl-D>Fonts to see if the fonts are embedded. If not, then it is an issue of the fonts probably not being on your system and Acrobat is doing a best guess of what should be substituted. There is also a check box in some versions of Acrobat that says to use local fonts only. Try changing that option if you can find it.

I am a computer novice, but how do I change text in a pdf file that was sent to me?

I would try Acrobat out, you can't do that in Adobe Reader.

  • How can i change the size of PDF files ?

how can i change the size of PDF files? when i convert documents in the acrobat browser it seems the files become larger then normal pdf files, this is, i compare with other files that people send to me and i realise that they are smaller than my converted files, even if they have more pages.

A lot depends on the form of the PDF. Is it graphics, a scan of a text file, pure text, or other? What version of Acrobat are you working with.
You can do a save as to get a WORD file, but do not expect great results. The ability to get a decent WORD file depends on what the form of PDF you are working from. If it was created from WORD with tags and all, you might get good results. If not, you might get a lot of messed up results.
Explain what you are starting with and your ultimate goal. Also check the audit of the file (should be under PDF Optimize) to see where the file information is concentrated (text, fonts, graphics, other).

  • Changing the setting from PDF file to a  JPEG file.

Is there a way I can change the scan setting on my printer. It is a HP Deskjet F4480. I want to change the setting from PDF file to a JPEG file. I want to scan them so I can see them on my screen saver.

This has nothing to do with Acrobat. See the documentation for the scanner software that came with your scanner.

  • Cant change words in my pdf file??

why cant I  change words in my pdf file? it takes me to another page to convert files to word only and the wrong files I might add

As PDF is not a word processing file format applications that work PDF cannot perform word processing activity.
What can be done when using Acrobat XI is the touchup of characters and character strings.
However if the PDF content is the output image of scanner that content is an image / a picture of text.
To work images / pictures you'd use a photo editor (such as Photoshop Elements or such).
You fail to specify what application you are using (Acrobat XI or Adobe Reader XI).
If you have Acrobat you can perform OCR using Acrobat's ClearScan. The output of ClearScan OCR lends itself to doing "touchups".
If you have Acrobat you can export the OCR output to a Word file. Needed / desired cleanup can be done using Word.
If you have Adobe Reader you cannot modify PDF page content, create PDF or export PDF page content.
With this situation you'd want to be subscribed to one of Adobe's online subscription services.
There is ExportPDF and PDF Pack. With either you can go to the service's web site, sign in and then upload the PDF for processing.
If the PDF content needs OCR you'd direct the service to do that.
The output is a Word file. You'd for sure have to cleanup the Word file but that'd be standard word processing.
    Be well...

  • Hyperlinks in Word 2007 not appearing in PDF file

I am not sure if this is more of a Word problem, or an Acrobat problem.
However, I have a document in Word that contains a table of contents and several cross-references that are hyperlinks to locations in the document. In the Word file, you can CTRL + click and you will be taken to the destination of the hyperlink, for example to a topic in the Table of Contents.
I used to make these a couple years back and they worked fine.
I am using Word 2007 on a PC with Acrobat 8.1.2. I have tried both the Standard and the Rich Content PDF job options and neither of them seems to give me hyperlinks in the finished PDF file. Am I missing something?

I've also had problems carrying links over from a Word file (I'm using Word 2002). External links in footnotes are not carried into the PDF file unless, using Change Conversion Settings - Settings, the 'Enable Accessibility etc.' box is ticked. Even then, in a 2mb file, with a lot of footnotes, whether the links are carried into the PDF file seems to depend on which computer I use. OK with XP and 1.5gb; but with Vista and 3gb the links do not appear in the PDF file. In either case its a 10+ minutes process.
If you don't tick the box, links in footnotes are carried over only if the actual URL appears in the text. However, the process is much quicker.

  • All of a sudden if I amend a PDF files title in Goodreader or Save to PDF, then transfer it to iBooks the file shows up in IBooks with the title, UNTITLED. Has anyone else experienced this?

I change the title of certain files I use for work in Goodreader or Save to PDF then transfer to iBooks for use. All of a sudden no matter what I name the file it turns up in iBooks as UNTITLED. Anyone know why?

If you add the files to the Books section of your iTunes library, then change the title field by right-clicking and 'Get Info' and then sync it, it should display correctly in iBooks' Library view.
However, in my experience, it's best that the filename matches the document name as it's the filename (minus the .pdf) that displays as an overlay when you're in Read view.

  • Suddenly, I cannot attach a pdf file I created to an e-mail...

    Hi,
Hope someone can help me. I've always created documents in Pages (sometimes just a page or two, with or without graphics or photos), saved them as a .pdf file and then attached them to an outgoing e-mail mainly so that the recipient cannot alter the content.
However today for some reason, after saving the.pdf file, when I try to attach it to an outgoing e-mail (1 recipient only), I first get a drop down message saying "This file is not being sent in a secure format. Do you still want to send it ?" When I say yes, it takes forever to load until finally timing out and a message shows up on the e-mail where the file should have been saying that an error occured.
I had no problem doing this yesterday or ever before, and I even tried attaching another document that attached fine yesterday, but today I'm getting this new message and the file doesn't load.
Anyone know what's going on or how I can correct this ?
The files are relatively small: 1 MB or less (one is only 32kb), and I had no problem attaching them in the past, in about 5 or 10 seconds. Only attaching 1 file per e-mail.
    Thanks for any advice.

It now appears that all attachments - .pdf, photos, documents, etc. are coming up with this message when I try to attach them to my e-mails, and then cannot be attached (time out error message)....
Could it be that my settings have changed somehow ? How do I checked what's changed and how do I fix this ?
So frustrating as I have some urgent attachments to send out.
    Any help welcomed.

  • Adober Reader suddenly won't open any PDF files (Mac)

I had an old version, I downloaded the latest one, upgraded to the newest, even tried taking that one out and downloading an older version. It doesn't matter which version I seem to have, it won't open any pdf files from the web.
I use a Mac, and Safari. It used to always load PDF files fine, one random place said I had to update it so I did and since then, lately it'd crash and close all Safari windows when loading a PDF or trying to copy something from a PDF. The smart Mac message I have says it could be related to an Adobe Plug in. However, now it won't even load PDF files at all, it always goes to a white page. Nothing happens.
What do I do?? I can't even save the PDF's as individual files and view then in Preview as an alternative option. It's a link online and normally would work. What happened??
    HELP!
    I have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
I've always used Safari, it's Version 5.0.5 (5533.21.1 if that means anything).
Acrobat Reader, currently an old version 9.4.0 download. BUT, I had also the 10.0.1 version which also doesn't work. When I had that 10.0.1 version and checked for updates, there was an update (.3 I think?) and I did that and that also doesn't work!
Why did it suddenly stop working?
What can I do to fix it ASAP?
Only with 9.4.0 version I can go to Help and "Repair Adobe Reader Installation" - I click that and the only box I can select is "Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plugin - View, fill-in and collaborate on Adobe PDFs within Safari"  - I click continue and it tells me there's "No missing components detected. Repairs are not needed." The only option is to click "OK".
With any newer version of Adobe Reader, under Help there is no option to "Repair Adobe Reader Installation". So... I can't even try that with a new version.
I am at a loss for solutions. Hope someone here can help! Thanks!

There are several things you can do. My first step would be to repair permissions. If that doesn't work log on as a different user. If all works properly then you have a corrupt preference file (most likely) or a corrupt user font installed in your user Library (less likely). If that doesn't work download Applejack. Have it repair the disk, remove all system caches and user caches. Then have it check all system and user preference files. Remove any preference files that are corrupt. Reboot and see if your system is working properly.

  • How do I change page margins on pdf file on acrobat?

    Hi there
Could someone please help me. I need to change the page margins on a pdf file using adobe acrobat.  The page size is 7" by 10" which I have been able to change.  I need to change the page margins to:
    Left - .75"
    Right - .25"
    Top - .25"
    Bottom - .25"
I know it is probably something really simple but I just can't figure it out.
    Thank you for your help

Not simple at all. Actually, Acrobat isn't built to do this type of thing. You would want to make those changes in the original document and create a new PDF.
The main problem here is that Acrobat will not reflow the text as the margins grow.

  • How do you change text on a PDF file

How do you change text on a PDF file

If at all possible, you don't. You get the original (pre-PDF file), you edit that.
Adobe Acrobat has some very limited facilities which sometimes allow very simple text edits to PDF (e.g. change a phone number).

  • Help changing pereferences for opening pdf files

SO I was in a hurry one day. A window pooped up asking how I wanted to open a .pdf I clicked down to Pages (because I erroneously thought it would save me time moving the info to a thesis paper.) I must have also clicked do this every time, because well, it tries (and fails) everytime.
I have already done the trick where you click on any pdf file
go to the Open with: menu and change it to preview (or adobe, whatever)
    then click change all
but the computer still tries (and fails) to open it with Pages first.
I can click on the pdf in my download folder and it opens correctly now, though
so how do I get it to stop using pages when it first downloads?
    thanks in advance

In the Finder, locate and click on a pdf file.
    Press command-I to Get Info.
In the Info window, go to the Open with... section, choose the application you want to use for PDF files.
Click Change All. OK the warning (if any).
    Close the Info window.
If that doesn't fix the problem, the issue is probably a plist file used by the downloading application. Try posting the problem in the forum for that application.

    Barry
