Sudden font dysfunction

Have had NO problems with fonts with any version of OS X, until suddenly (after working perfect;y well with OS 10.4.3 since it was released). I have several fonts that appear now to be mis-mapped to the keyboard. Specifically, working in these fonts in any app, say TextEdit or Word, these fonts no longer respond to <space>; nor to keystrokes for binding space, etc..
FontBook, shows no damage, and all font characters-regular and extended function fine, but no way to space anything anywhere. These are PS Type 1 fonts. Where do I look to try to fix whatever it it that has suddenly gone haywire? Interestingly, these few fonts also no longer appear in graphic form in Font menus-only as generic text typeface. (??)

Suddenly writings and sometimes graphics are not printed when I write a postscript file from InDesign and change it with the PDF distiller . There was an update for indesign at the cloud. But can it be that? I always get the expression from the printer: error: invalidfont Offending Command: show stack: () or Error: typecheck Offending Command: rmoveto stack: null null
I'm totally desperate. So far, everything has always worked out well and I do not use any other font :-(

If they are anywhere on your system, delete the fonts Times Phonetic and Helvetica Fractions. Then clear out the font cache files with Font Finagler.

Sudden font change

When downloading pdf's from internet, suddenly all documents are in courier font. This just started. Any help? Thx.

Go into Acrobat's Preferences (Edit > Preferences).
The column shows the Categories. Select Page Display.
"Use local fonts" will be there.
About "Use local fonts" (from Acrobat Help):
You can create a printable preview of your document that substitutes default fonts for any text formatted in fonts that are available on your local computer but are not embedded in the PDF.
This preview can help you decide whether to embed those local fonts in the PDF, to achieve the look you want for your document.
In the Preferences dialog box under Categories, select Page Display, and then deselect Use Local Fonts. Note: If a font cannot be substituted, the text appears as bullets, and Acrobat displays an error message.

Email will not let me change fonts all of a sudden.

Email will not let me change fonts all of a sudden. It says I don't have the neccesay permissions in ~/library/preferences. this has just happened recently.

Who is your email provider?
You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears. Try again to see if the problem persists.
If yes, try deleting the mail account and adding it again.

HP P1505 laserjet printer suddenly printing everything in a huge font

Suddenly this printer is printing everything in a huge font - I've reset the printer, checked the default settings, etc. It does this in every program. I have over a hundred of these printers and have never seen this issue - any ideas?

The font in Safari's bookmarks bar and tabs bar has suddenly changed

The font in Safari's bookmarks bar and tabs bar has suddenly changed to a lighter font. How do I change the font back? I'm not speaking of the font size/type in the web browser in viewing web pages, but the font in the application itself has changed. It's rather annoying and would like to be able to change it back! I'm running Safari v5.1.7

OK, Margie, here's what to do . . .
First Quit Safari.
Then Find your User's (Home) folder library.
It's hidden, but here's how you find the Home Library:
Click on the desktop to get the Finder menu. Then go up to "Go" in the menu bar, while holding down the option key.
You'll now see the User Library in the drop down list. Open it, then look for the Fonts folder.
Take the fonts folder to the desktop.
Restart Safari.
Any better?
(Warning: This is only for the Users/Home > Library > Fonts folder. Under no circumstances, should this be done with the SYSTEM > Library > Fonts folder.)

My firefox page/style format suddenly changed. I would like the original style format. Also, the size of the page and the print/font became too large and I can't seem to change it back. Thanks.

Maybe it got zoomed? Try Ctrl-0 (zero) and see if the text changes back to normal.

Here's a positive thing: Windows viruses can't run on OS X, but they can be transferred from OS X to other PCs (only if you have them on the OS X volume).

You could get a virus from a different source that infected Steam and Chrome without any problem. Viruses normally try to infect as many files and programmes as possible.

iPhones, iPads and iPods touch can't get viruses but they can transfer them to other PCs. For Windows, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials

Font size in Google results page is suddenly enormous

I have an older PowerPC G4 running Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Safari 4.1.3.
Yesterday, without changing or adding nothing at all, font size in the Google results page suddenly became huge. It looks terrible. This does not affect the main Google page, or the tools column to the left, or any other web sites. Just the Google results column. But since I'm a heavy user, I don't want to be exposed to hugely oversize text several times an hour, day in and day out.
Google preferences are correctly set -font size in this particular page remains normal in my other, newer machines. My standard font size in Safari preferences is 10 pt, but the the Google results column displays in at least 13 pt.
I have searched high and low for an explanation or a fix, and come up empty-handed. Has anyone else seen this, or know of a way to control font size in the Google results page/column?

What you are describing seeing is what I am seeing with 4.1.3 Safari here.
(Resisting an urge to gaslight the issue here. )
You might remove all Google cookies and see if there are any Google plist files that may be causing the problem.

Font size in yahoo mail has suddenly shrunk, not the emails but inbox list etc. Only in Firefox, not Safari etc. How can I correct this

When I opened Yahoo mail from Firefox the font size suddenly shrunk and I can hardly read it. Font size in emails not affected. Inbox, sent list etc are all much smaller.
No problem when using Safari.
I note from internet forums that others have had this problem.

FW CS4 Win7 x64: Font Suddenly Not Recognized

Weird issue that I'm hoping someone can help with. I have a family of TrueType fonts that I've been using across various CS4 projects for a while, and now, suddenly, none of the fonts are available within Fireworks CS4. They still show up in the Font menu, but selecting them doesn't change any on-screen text, and the font menu always reverts back to the previous selection (usually Arial). The fonts still work fine in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, as well as MS Office and other non-Adobe apps. It's just Fireworks that has suddenly decided to stop recognizing them.
I've deinstalled the fonts and reinstalled a new fresh copy -- no change. Restarted multiple times -- nothing.
Is there maybe a Fireworks font-related prefs file that's been corrupted or something? I really need to get some work done, and with so many of my base design projects built in FW, I'm kinda stuck.
Any ideas?

Suddenly the fonts shown on screen becomes incomplete

While working on my laptop, suddenly the following phenomenon happens. Some characters are shown correclty, some not. As shown in the follwing figure, all "i" are missing.
The same thing happened to firefox. But after restart the firefox, this is gone.
does any one here know what happened?
The fonts for the terminator is "inconsolata medium", the destop environment is "I3wm".

After restart, it now recovered. But I do still wonder what happened.

Composition window suddenly is using a small (2-pt?) font--the font looks ok when sent.

The message composition window suddenly is using a small (2-pt?) font. This happened "spontaneously" when replying to a message. It happens all the time now.
When the sent message is viewed afterwards, the fonts are normal in size. When I increase the font size in the composition window, it looks huge after sending.
I'm using a Mac with OS 10.9.2.
Any ideas on restoring the font sizes in the composition window?

Why did iTunes suddenly become white font on black background?

For no reason I can ascertain, my iTunes window suddenly became white font on black background, VERY difficult to see!
Help, please!!!

Figured it out, fixed it. In app Onyx, I had checked, in the iTunes file, "High Contrast". I unchecked that and everything is back to normal - black on white. Hope this message gets around to others writing about this.
