Sudden issue connecting Z10 USB mass media storage to BMW car

For the past year I have had no issues USB connecting my Z10 to my BMW car (to listen to music) via the USB port. Ever since 2 weeks ago my Z10 has had issues connecting.
It would initially connect and the car display screen will show the connection as "read" but then when I try to go into the music folder/s nothing works. When I try to open a music folder (via the BMW display screen) I would hear a tiny-soft squeeling sound (2 tenth of a second) and then the car retries to connect to the phone again.
It's strange how it just suddenly happen. My ' USB mass storage' is switched on which allows the car to read from the phone's media card. I have cleared / formatted the USB card and put the music back onto the media card but the problem still arises. In my opinion it has to be the car electronics system that's causing the issue...unless someone can tell me otherwise.
Any help?

Have you tried to connect the phone using the Mass Storage to a computer and to access the media files using the computer.
Also I would be trying another SD card in the phone just to see if it is not the SD card that is begining to be defect in some part of it

  • Blackberry Z10 USB Mass Storage issues

My Blackberry Z10 doesnt show up on my PC as a Mass Storage Device, and if I go into the settings on the phone the setting to turn it on only applies to the SD card. I have Blackberry Link on my PC installed, but putting movies and videos onto the Z10 this way is so much harder than simply dragging and dropping if it simply popped up as a drive on my laptop. Ive read the manual online and seen that my Z10 should pop up as a Drive on my computer, one drive for SD card and one for the main storage, so where am i going wrong, why cant i find this drive on my computer. One point to note was that before i installed Blackberry link, the first time i plugged the phone into my laptop it popped up as a drive on my laptop with links to download Blackberry, but i dont think it was the real drive, now i cant get the drive anywhere, it doesnt come up when i plug the phone in or if i click computer it isnt in the list of drives. • USB Mass Media driver trouble

I have a HP Pavilion desktop model a6334f running Windows Vista 32-bit and whenever I reboot the computer it is recognizing a USB flash/thumb drive in one of my USB ports, but it's not plugged in.
I checked the Device Manager for this USB port and it gives me the following error message:
    LOC: PORT_#0005, HUB_#0008
Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but has not been removed from the computer. (CODE 47)
To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and plug it in again.
The flash/thumb drive is NOT in either of my USB ports but for some reason everytime I boot the PC it recognizes it in the USB port and intermittently the PC will reboot on it's own.
It appears to me that this port is "hung-up". I've tried to uninstall this driver and it will uninstall OK but when the PC reboots, it just reinstalls the driver and I'm back where I started.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Airport Extreme issue connecting through usb to freeagent external hdd

I have a brand new 15"MacBook Pro and am using an Airport Extreme for wireless internet throughout my house. That part of the system seems to work fine. My problem is that I want to connect both my printer and FreeAgent hdd to be accesses through my wireless network. When I plug in a 4 port hub everything seems fine (green light). When I plug in the Free Agent hdd the light immediately turns to blinking amber. In airport utility the hdd does not show up but I get a message which says "disk needs repair". If I plug the hdd directly into my MacBook I can can see it, read from it and write to it fine. I can't find anything that indicates that the hdd wouldn't be compatible with the Airport Extreme. Help!

You can access the AirPort Disk via normal file-sharing connection options, such as selecting the server from any Finder window’s sidebar in the Shared section. AirPort Disk uses two standard methods: AFP (for Macs) and Samba (for Windows or Linux).
Leopard accesses AirPort Disks through the Finder, just like any other network volume. Open any Finder window, and look in the sidebar for a list of servers in the Shared section. You should find your AEBSn.
To mount an AirPort Disk volume, follow these steps:
    1. Select the AEBSn in the Sharing section of the sidebar.
    2. To connect as a Guest user, you need take no more steps; To use a named account, click the Connect As button in the upper right and enter your credentials.
    3. Double click a volume that’s shown to mount it on your system.
For both Windows XP and Vista, open the network browser by double-clicking Network on the Desktop. The base station name should appear in the Network browser.

  • K8N SLI Issue - USB Mass Storage Issue

New install.  I have an issue with the USB Mass Storage device on my Canon printer.
When the machine boots, it pauses just on bootup for about 5 minutes.  Pauses right after displaying the CPU information.
It eventually boots up into windows, but shows a yellow exclamation mark on 'USB Mass Storage Device'.  I have tried uninstalling the printer drivers and reinstalling with no luck.  If I pull the USB printer plug and then boot, I have no issues.
I've upgraded to the newest bios.  I feel like even if I could fix the Windows driver issue, it might not help since the main pause is in the Bios startup...
    Any ideas?

    hi Zepp,
    Welcome to the forum
Most common issue with usb is front case USB lead. if you have a lead connected to jusb1 or jusb2 on the mobo disconnect it & see if u still have issues. The reason is shown if your front usb does NOT work with your k7n2 board read this you'll see from the title it's not just the neo4
Have you a usb memory stick or anything else plugged in.

  • KDE 4.2 and USB Mass Storage , does not write data until unmounted

    Hi,
I have a Nokia phone that I connect for USB mass storage, and KDE 4.2.2 does not seem to write the data to the device until I unmount.
Is there a way to force the write so it happens right away?  It's annoying because I can't see any progress when it copies the data at unmount.
    Later,
    Snorkel

That's kinda the way linux does things, not specifically a KDE issue.  It's so that the system only has to write out to the media only once, even if you separately add/delete/move 50 different files.
I think you can run 'sync' and that will flush all the file system buffers to disk.

  • Asha 501- usb mass storage connectivity issues.

hey guys, I've just connected my phone to an android tab using usb mode. 1st thing is it didn't detect my phone as mass storage. 2nd thing is after unplugging my phone, all the content in my memory card seems to be scrambled, everything looks in different language/characters. Not sure what to do apart from reformatting the memory card. Any suggestions...
I tried restarting the phone, reinserted the memory card. All info on memory card is scrambled.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • USB Mass Storage function Z10

    Hi guys.
I use my Z10 as a USB drive to play music from my car stereo & others.
To do thay i go to:
    1. Configuration
    2. Storage & Access
    3. Media Card Details --> Turn on USB mass sotrage
However, I have to do this setting every time my phone reboot because my selections is just forgiveen by the configration settings. The problem is that too many days a week i drain my battery so the phone turn off and the USB mass storage functions is disable.
Is there any way to set this setting to ON just one time, and when the phone is restarted it dont go automatically to OFF state?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey buddy.
I came across the same query when I first got my Z10. I tried every / any way possible to have it defaulted as "ON" though there isn't.
So for the meantime we will need to do this extra step every time our phones restart (until BB rolls out an update which does otherwise). I'm sure we're not the only ones who have run into this annoying un-user-friendly step.

  • LG Spectrum - Issue w/ USB Mass Storage funcionality

I just got this phone a few days ago and I am trying to play the music that I have stored on my phones memory card through my car stereo by plugging it in the USB port in my car. When I try to do this, the screen on my phone just flashes back and forth from the charging home screen to the regular home screen and it (my car stereo) says reading error. Prior to getting the LG SPectrum I had an HTC Evo on Sprint and it used to work whenever I plugged my phone into my cars USB port. Is there a setting I need to change in my phone or is this phone just not compatible w/ car stereos? This may be a question that I need to ask my car manufacturer but I figured I would start here for some advice.
On another note, I am also wondering if this phone has an indicator light. I have been looking ever since I got this phone but can't seem to find it anywhere. All I see on it is the front camera and a motion sensor. Am I missing something?

Yes I have tried that but it still gives me the same result. Itis a little disappointing that I can't get it to work like my Evo did. I never had the need for an iPod b/c my phone always did what I needed as far as music goes. So is am is it safe to assume that it won't be possible to play my music on my phone through my car stereo? Any way it could work through bluetooth? I am somewhat disappointed w/ some of the other features of this phone (especially not having a notification light) but I could get past that but not having the ability to have the USB mass storage capability is a huge let down.

  • USB Mass Storage Device won't Eject/Unmount

My brother bought a Sanyo ICR-B180NX digital voice recorder last year to use with his iBook. It was working very well up until about August of 2005. At that point, the recorder would mount on the desktop, and he could get all the files off (it records direct to MP3 format rather than WMV, so he can edit his files very easily), but when it came time to eject it, the device icon would disappear and then immediately re-appear on the desktop. The display on the voice recorder remained static at the "Connect" screen.
I believe this happened in conjunction with some sort of OS update, as it was a "sudden" thing. We can't quite recall what happened between the times it worked and the time it stopped working.
I have tried the device on a PC, and it works the way it should, so I don't believe there's anything wrong with it.
Now, I know the system requirements on the website say that you must have Windows, but a statement from a support company (we returned it to the place where we got it, and they sent it out for repairs, and it came back with a letter) states that the device does act as a generic Mass Storage device, and thus may work with most systems.
All my other USB storage devices (ie. SanDisk 12-in-1 card reader, SanDisk Cruzer Titanium 2GB, iPod Photo), and FireWire devices (ie. WiebeTech TrayDock Extreme) work fine and unmount fine.
Does anyone know of any changes to the way Mass Storage devices are ejected in the current iteration of the OS? I haven't had a chance to test the device under an older OS, but will soon.
Alternately, if anyone has any suggestions regarding replacements (not really looking forward to that, given this recorder cost almost $300CAD), let me know. We need a device that can plug in via USB and transfer files to his iBook which he can edit together (he's a newspaper reporter in training, and needs to edit the interviews to take out such things like dead air, etc).
    Thanks!

    Hi
+USB mass storage device. An error occurred during the installation of the device the data is invalid+
This typical error message appears if the installation of external USB devices failed.
Why? This is not easy to say
What you could do firstly is to clean your registry using the freeware software called CCleaner (Google for that).
Install it and clean your OS and the registry entries.
After cleaning access the device manager and remove all USB root hubs and all USB Host controllers from the device list and reboot the notebook.
New reboot should cause a new installation of USB drivers.
Finally try to connect and try to install your external USB devices again.

  • Can't enable USB Mass Storage

I am trying to use recovery software (Recuva) to replace deleted photos. When connecting to my laptop, I can only choose Media Device (MTP) or Camera (PTP). Recuva cannot find my phone without USB Mass Storage enabled but that option seems to no longer exist? What can I do to enable this?

You need to enable USB debugging on phone, so the computer can see it as a storage device.
Go into Settings, then scroll down to the bottom and click on About Phone.
Scroll down to the bottom to where it says “Build Number”.
Tap on “Build number” 7 times. After the third tap, Android will start counting down on how many taps are left before you can access the developer options, with a playful “You are now [insert number of remaining taps] steps away from being a developer”.
After the 7th tap, you’ll get a “You are now a developer!” message.
Now, go back to the main settings screen, and voila, the “Developer options” menu will be visible at the bottom, just above “About phone”!
    Developer options->enable USB debugging

  • How to use cRIO USB mass storage?

    Hi,
I am using the NI9215 as an analog input port and want to write the data into an external USB mass storage which is connected in the
cRIo-9012 USB port.  I do not have any idea how to write the data into USB mass storage, does anyone can give me some help?

Differences among brands and models are due to the fact that certain devices take greater liberties with the USB mass storage device specification than others.  A venerable operating system like Windows (or even Linux) is shot through with workarounds for device- and manufacturer-specific issues that are not present (as much) in VxWorks, which is the OS used on the cRIO-9012.  Therefore only devices that adhere very rigorously to the specification are going to work properly.
Unfortunately, degree of adherence to the USB spec is not something that's generally published about a device, nor is there any sort of official certification process.  So to some extent it's trial and error.  I am working with our support enginners currently to develop a list of devices that NI certifies as interoperable with VxWorks, and also VxWorks is increasing the robustness of their USB support with every release.
EDIT: And the advice about reformatting the device is very sound.  The cRIO-9012 does not support the NTFS file system, only FAT 12, 16, and 32.  If the USB device is formatted for NTFS, it will not function properly.
Finally, if anyone sees a storage device that fails to work properly despite all these suggestions, please post as much information as possible (model number, manufacturer, capacity).  Having this information will allow us to work with the manufacturers of VxWorks to improve USB support.

  • USB Mass Storage Mode Missing :-(

I just upgraded? to the Samsung Galaxy S III today and have been very happy for the most part.  However...
I am EXTREMELY disappointed that the only options to transfer files to the phone/SD Card are to use the MTP and Photo protocols.  I always loved my Android phone...built off of open source software...and using open standards (things like USB Mass Storage).  It is incredibly useful to be able to plug my phone into almost any PC, running any OS, and be able to transfer files to and fro.
Where is the rest of the uproar?  When are we going to demand that one of the most useful features on our phone be put back.  It was already there...it was already working...and has been dropped for lame, limited use protocols...  Why?  Who is getting paid off?  Why?
Bring back USB Mass Storage Mode!!!!

It is always a good idea to do some research...  I have followed your suggestion and found that Google has two reasons for using MTP instead of USB Mass Storage.  They  are:
      1)  “A main reason for using MTP rather than for example the USB mass-storage device class (MSC) is that the latter operates at the granularity of a mass storage device block (usually in practice, a FAT block), rather than at the logical file level. In other words, the USB mass storage class is designed to give a host computer undifferentiated access to bulk mass storage, such as compact flash, rather than to a file system, which might be safely shared with the target device (except for specific files which the host might be modifying/accessing). In practice, therefore, when a USB host computer has mounted an MSC partition, it assumes absolute control of the storage, which then may not be safely modified by the device without risk of data corruption until the host computer has severed the connection.“  -sombody from Google
--My Response - "I am totally OK with the SD card not being safe to be mounted.  During the time I choose to be connected (only when transferring files)...I DO want the PC and not the phone to be in complete control of the SD card."
    2)  “MTP is a big improvement over USB mass storage — for devices with lots of internal memory, a manufacturer no longer needs to come up with some hard partition between the USB mass storage and internal storage. Instead, they are all in one partition, with MTP providing access to the directory of media files that would normally be available through USB mass storage. This means there is no longer a need for apps on SD card for such devices, because what used to be the ‘internal SD card’ is in the same partition as where applications are stored. The storage on your device can be used for either applications or media, depending on what you want to put on it. You aren’t stuck with how much space the manufacturer decided to leave for the two areas." -somebody else from Google
--My Response - "I am completely OK with the removable SD card being treated separately.  That is EXACTLY what I want.  I want to keep MY DATA separate and only on the removable SD card.  And all of the stuff that I don't care about...that can be easily reinstalled (apps and such) on the internal memory.  It is a good design.  The phone has enough internal memory that I don't have any trouble with space for Apps (so not a conern at all)."
--My Overall Response - "The loss of flexibility, portability, and usefullness does NOT come close to justifying removal of the USB Mass Storage protocol.  I am still VERY disappointed."

Can you afford a new Thunderbolt case and cable? any case with FW800 is going to be slow 72MB/sec and less, and any new 1TB drive is capable of 75MB/s minimum up to 125MB/sec.
Thunderbolt storage can of course when setup properly reach 100's of MB higher using multiple drives.
Use what you have for a system backup or for secondary backup storage.
you might be able to take the drive - most cases allow you to open and swap drives - and use this:
