Sudden list of years appears on screen...pleas help!
I am on osX 10.8.4 on my 9 month old macbook pro and i suddenly get a list of years appearing on screen when i bring the macbook out of sleep. The only way to make it go away is to reboot or put it to sleep again. I have no clue whats going on....please help! What's going wrong?
You might have some kind of program running in startup, though that seems like a pretty worthless program. First step is System Preferences / Users & Groups. Check the login item list.

You may need to do a Restore in iTunes.
Clicking sounds from an iPod that has a hard drive is probably not a good thing. It is possible that your iPod's hard drive is becoming unreliable. -

i have apps loaded on my iPad. they show in the main screen are not available to load documents to in the window list which should appear below the main window. the same apps do appear in the sub window on my other iPad. any ideas?
From what I can see, unless you're doing things with old versions of Xcode on a Mac (in which case, the solution seems to be to upgrade to the latest version), this seems to e an iTunes issue.
Accepting that it works fine with another iPad, I suggest trying the following:
1. Restart the non-working iPad
2. If that doesn't work, reinstall iTunes. If you're on a Windows PC, I suggest using Control Panel to uninstall all the Apple apps, restarting the PC, and doing a fresh install. If you're using a Mac, a repair permissions might help too.
iTunes 10.3 is now available, and that may make a difference. -
I go onto ordinary websites and then all of a sudden this grey box appears on the middle of my screen, then it automatically restarts my computer. I am not really sure what to do and how to get it fixed. Any help would be great. Thanks

I am having a problem getting music from my computer to my ipad, though it works the other way.
I can't get the set up screen. I turn on itunes, plug in the ipad, and my music list comes up --- not the screen with 'devices' that the instructions say will come up. How can I get to that screen?With iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC. When the iPad is plugged in it should then appear on that left-hand sidebar under 'Devices' so that you can select it, and then use the tabs on the right-hand side of the screen to select what to sync to it.

I'm not a Verizon user (I'm with Rogers, in Canada), so this obviously is not a Verizon issue. Would love to know why one second all my texts and calls had names associated with them, and then suddenly all the names were replaced by phone numbers.

Mavric doesn't support my 5 years old Big Screen Display, OR? Tried to connect my Mac Book Pro after installing Mavric, The Screen didn't work as before. I could only see the Desktop but not the movies for example.
<E-mail Edited by Host>It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files. -
How to get the iChat Buddy List to automatically appear on the Desktop
On my friends computer iChat is set to launch whenever he logs into his account, but the Buddy List does not appear on his Desktop. So when I see him online there is no green video camera mark next to his name.
If I want to do a screen share with him, I have to ask him to go to the iChat icon towards the right side of the Menubar (the round 'speech ballon') and click on Show AIM Buddy List at the bottom. Once he has the Buddy List on his Desktop, I can screen share with him.
Surely there must be a way for the Buddy List to always appear on the Desktop when logging into his computer... Can anyone help out?Hi,
Interesting one.
If I were telling you how to create this it would be like this:-
1) Go to System Preferences > Accounts > Your account and enter iChat in the Login items. (Makes iChat launch at Computer Start Up)
2) to Hide the Window (Buddy List(s) ) at Start Up click the Red Button to close the Window/Buddy List before Quitting.
This will cause the next Start Up to not show th Buddy List.
How you make the Buddy List appear after that depends on how you bring it in to View.
NOTES:
Some Windows in iChat from Buddy List to the Preferences to th Actual Chat Windows will appear in the places you left them for the most part.
The Exceptions are Incoming Invites.
This means the Buddy List will be were you left it, your Outgoing Invite/Preview whilst waiting for Connection will always be where the last outgoing Video Chat window was.
Using the Red Button on a Open Chat Window will end the Chat (All types).
However doing it to a Buddy List only Hides it.
In addition to this using the Item (or the Keystrokes) from the Window Menu of iChat for a Buddy list when it is On view will Hide it (or Bring it back if Hidden)
The Show AIM option in the Menu Bar icon's drop down is a two edge thing as it shows All Buddies (Available ones) from all AIM Buddy lists if you have more than one (Apple names are also AIM Names in this case).
Does he want to change this Behaviour ?
He would be better off using the iChat Window menu (or Keystrokes) after he has clicked the icon in the Dock to bring the app to the Front so he can access the Menu bar with ichat in it.
He could also click and Hold the icon for iChat in the DOCK and select the Account Name there. This, if I remember correctly, will have the same effect as presenting the Buddy List from the Menu Bar icon (it will be hidden at Next Start Up)

I have a new mac book pro (sept 2014) and am suddenly stuck on the log-in screen. Keyboard input is not working to enter my password. Seems to be a log in issue as keyboard works for forced troubleshooting. (And b/c when I first noticed the problem, I was able to enter my log in password but then everything sort of froze. Now, no ability to enter the password.) Already tried a basic restart and a cmmnd/ cntrl/ pwr troubleshoot to no effect.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Could also be not enough free space for the iPad to operate efficiently. With iOS 7 it is recommended that you have 15-20% of the storage space on the device free. For a 16 GB device that is 2.4-3.2 GB free. For a 32 GB device that is 4.8-6.4 GB free. For a 64 GB device that is 9.6-12.8 GB free.
If neither of these suggestions helps, Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support. -
Preview List Does Not Appear through VPN
This is an issue that IT and I worked on for a couple of weeks that turned out to have a very simple cause and an easy solution, so I thought it might help others to post the experience here.
Environment: Dreamweaver CS3 running on a decent laptop that sits in a docking station at work with two monitors and just sits in my lap as a laptop when working from home over a Cisco AnyConnect VPN connection. I was trying to work from home for the first time, so it was not a case of something working before and then breaking--this issue was there all along. The rights to the laptop are far less than Admin. Using a strong wireless connection at home to a reliable cable ISP.
Symptoms: DW works fine at the office, but when I would take my laptop home and connect via VPN, the synchronize behavior was different. Whenever I would do a synchronize/get or a synchronize/put on a file or folder which I knew had been changed by my team-mate, the Preview window would not show up as expected, listing the files that would be changed. My team-mate did not have this issue when working from home. Interestingly, when I did a sync/get or sync/put on a folder or file that I knew had not changed, the behavior was normal and I'd see the usual pop-up saying there were no changes to sync, and asking if you want to see a list to sync manually.
Troubleshooting: We did all kinds of troubleshooting with IT, including rebuilding my Adobe profile (renaming various Adobe folders in the file system and in the Windows registry to be automatically rebuilt by the program), comparing all DW settings with those of my team-mate who had no such problems working from home, pinging this server and that, adding the FTP and HTTP servers to my HOSTS file, bypassing my wifi router at home and plugging straight into the cable modem, running DW as an admin, and chasing down error messages in the Event Log. My DW configuration mentioned something about firewall port 21, so I tried adding that to my router, hoping I was "opening" that port. Nothing seemed to change the behavior of the Preview list not showing up when expected.
Cause: Eventually I had an epiphany that turned out to be right. The problem was that I have two monitors at work, and at home I just use the laptop screen. Nothing was actually going wrong. But if I last had that Preview list window on the secondary screen at work, it would not appear on the laptop screen at home. And because the Preview list window does not get a Task Bar button, I couldn't tell that it was actually "appearing" in the nonexistent secondary screen. When the File Activity process is going, its progress indicator will have a Task Bar button, so even if it "appears" on the nonexistent screen, you can right-click the Task Bar button, select Move, and then use the arrow keys to walk that window into the visible space.
So apparently the main DW window has code that tells it to appear on the lone screen if it was last used on a secondary screen that is now unavailable, because it always launches in a visible space. The File Activity window does not have that code, but because it has a Task Bar button you can get around the issue and manually move it into the visible area. The Preview list has neither a Task Bar button nor the code that keeps it from showing up on a nonexistent screen. I'd say that qualifies as a bug, and perhaps it's not an issue in versions of DW that are newer than my CS3.
Solution: At work, before shutting down for the day, make sure that all the DW-related windows are dragged over to the primary screen, and those positions will be remembered the next time you run DW. Then when using the laptop by itself, everything will appear in the visible space.Under Window >Workspace Layouts
You can create two different, well, workspace layouts with your palettes and panels where you like them. Then you switch back and forth when you have both monitors or just the laptop. I'm pretty sure it remembers where everything pops up too. You could test that pretty easily though. -

Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. Dashboard Appears On Screen Randomly
I just purchased a iMac G5 isight. The dashboard appears out of nowhere when I am performing other tasks. I was just trying to send a group e-mail and when I clicked on "add" at the bottom of the list the dashboard appeared. That happened 3 times, after which I started over with the e-mail and that time no dashboard. Any suggestions?
JudyIt's the new mouse. You are accidentally pressing the scoll wheel button which is set by default to call up dashboard. There are actually four working buttons on the new mouse, a left and right (set by default to be the same), the scroll wheel button and the two on the side that you squeeze.
You can change the behaviour of these in System Preferences/Keyboard and Mouse/Mouse.
After 15 years using a single button mouse I'm having the same problems, but I have to say I like it (when I'm not pressing the wrong thing!), especially the scroll wheel.
