Sudden Log-out in Snow Leopard (+ Blue Screen)

Similar posts here show that other people are being spontaneously logged out of 10.6, faced with a blue screen, and then the login window. In my case it is caused by connecting my bluetooth (BT) headphones, as the log below states.
Short of never using my BT headphones or any other peripherals, has anyone found a solution to this terrible bug? Comments like "[Many applications shut down here]" are added to show that the log is just repeating with different applications.

I had the same problem while trying to save data in eBook Studio which is a PPC app requiring rosetta. It has been working fine and I have used it to create 4 other books on the same day a few weeks ago. Today, however, upon saving a book, I got logged out of 10.6 - losing my data and killing all my open applications.
Here is my crash log:

  • HELP PLEASE!! Boot problems with Snow Leopard (Blue Screen Loop)

    Hi guys!
My MacBook (the model before the current one) wont boot up. It started stuttering and acting strange and then froze so I did a force restart. It then loaded all the way up until a blue screen when the mouse appears and can be moved. This flickers off after a few moments (the screen dims) and then comes back. The process repeats as if in some infinite loop.
The main problem is that I've lost my snow leopard disc so I'm pretty limited to what I can do until I can borrow / buy another one and I need to get my laptop back up right away for work.
I've tried booting in safe mode, no joy
I then tried to repair the drive in fsck, which repaired something. I did it again and it said all was ok but then booting stuck at the same place.
Finally I read on another forum that removing /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist fixed login loop issues. I attempted this in single user mode but it said the file didnt exist?
Can anyone help me out here? I'm pretty stressed out as all my work stuff is on there for my new job...
    Thanks!!

I had this same problem -- machine would boot, but loop at two blue screens before the login window. I sshed into the machine and checked /private/var/log/system.log and /var/log/secure.log which showed a unexpected character in /etc/authorization. Basically, the authorization file was corrupted (most likely by bad RAM.) The solution was to replace this file with one copied from another machine. I didn't match models, but did match OS when copying the file (i don't know if this matters at all), and as soon as the "cp" command was entered, the login window popped up. <-- totes awesome. The machine has been reliable since (all of 15 minutes)

  • Flash Log Outs with Snow Leopard

Getting a ton flash log -outs. MIddle of doing something and computer just logs out.
Never seen this before in 6 years on Macs. Thought it was spaces, but happens with it disables. Have no idea what it could be.

Had my first one of these today. Fortunately didn't lose anything despite having many open applications. I was using Word and Excel 2004 and playing music through iTunes Airtunes. Other apps open included: Pages, Mail, Safari, NetNewsWire, Omnifocus, Omnioutliner, Textedit, Preview, Nottingham, Quicktime 7.
The tipping point seemed to be opening iMovie 09 and trying to adjust the white balance in some HD footage. The preview would reflect the change for a moment then return to the original; I kep trying then iMovie hung. Then Excel declared that autosave had been disable due to some problem. Seconds later the screen went blue and I was returned to the log in screen.
Perhaps my experience will help someone find out the reason?

  • Have To Enter Password Twice to Log In to Snow Leopard on my iMac

*Why Do I Have To Enter My Password Twice to Log In to Snow Leopard on my iMac?*
It just started happening a couple of weeks ago but I have no idea what I changed at that point.
There's a normal login screen where you can choose a user and enter a password. Then it goes to a completely blank screen for a few seconds and the same login scree reappears and I have to choose the user and enter the password again. Then it logs in.
What is going on? HOw do I fix it?
(please note that I do not want automatic login to one of the user accounts - I want to use this as a protection against access to my computer should someone steal it etc...)
    Thanks

What do you mean a "more fuller update" from software update? Do you mean the updates I automatically get from apple software update are not actually the latest snow leopard updates? I'm very confused.
No that is not what I was saying. Read all about the Snow Leopard combo update for yourself - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324
they're generally pretty useless and typically solve most problems by saying to reinstall everything.
That has never been my experience with Apple Care the few times I have used it.
This may be a user forum, but I'm pretty confident there are Apple staff helping people out on here.
Not the case here. Hate to bust your confident bubble. These forums are strictly user to user.
"Apple staff" do chime in from time to time in the Feedback forum area if you are having problems with the discussion website. Never for technical issues. Read the Terms Of Use.

  • I am suddenly logged out from whatever program or app i am working on and i have to log back in.  one solution suggested is to reset or restore of my IOS software which is quite an involved endeavor.  anyone knows of the cause and simpler solution?

i find that i am suddenly logged out of  program or an app or website, and i am back to the HOME screen.  i have to log back in and sometimes i find back exactly where i left off, some stuff i have entered or written,  or sometimes i have to start all over again and re-enter data or write back what i seem to have lost.
i tried a different browser and it does not solve the problem.  i tried different  apps, website and programs and it happens anywhere and at any app, program or website.
apple staff suggested a complete restore of the IOS software, which is quite an involved process. does anyone know of any possible causes and a simpler
solution without having to reset the entire IOS 7.0.6

    Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?)  touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.
~Remember, I am just giving an educated guess on limited information

  • Suddenly Logs Out: probably flash problem

On using firefox 5.0 my system sometimes suddenly logs out and redirects to the login screen. I think this is a problem of the flash player but any ways to find out what the reason is i think i should check out the logs. But again, which logs file do i check for the error?
If anyone could please guide me?
    regards
    Prateek

    Hi 9000,
Have you verified flash is up to date? If it's not up to date, have you considered downloading & the latest flash player?
While your at it, you may want to verify that Adobe ShockWave is up to date. And if it's not, download and install the latest 64-bit shockwave player.
If your still having issues, have you tried using another account on your dad's computer? dose it have the same issue?
if it's only your dad's account that has issues, you may want to try deleting flash cookies by using a program like Flush.app – Flash Cookie Removal Tool For OS X.
    cheers,
    -TT

I HAVE LOGGED IN. I GET BLUE SCREEN WITH MOVING TITLES. WHAT DO I CLICK TO GET PAY SLIP ADVICE

This is what happens. My wife gets a fortnightly pay slip sent  to one our
emails. It says that to see the speciific details it is necessaty to click
on a pdf icon. But it also says that to utilise this option it is necessary
to download Adobe Reader and it has a link. So afterr you have gone through
the whole procedure to download Adobe Reader you then click on that icon
againn now secure in the knowledge that you are  registered with Adobe
Reader ot have succesfully doiwnloade it at any rate. But when you click on
the icon up comes blue screen over which roam the words  "Music" "Films"
etc and there is a toolbar that appears to be suited to a media function
    -play buytton etc.
What I want is something which says word to the effect click on this and
    your pay details will appear/.

  • How come whenever I go to Gmail then go to another website, I'm suddenly logged out of whatever website I just went to?

Example: I get an email from twitter. I go to GMail. Read the email then click the link within the email but then I'm suddenly logged out of the website even if I had just logged in.
This also happens just by going GMail. This problem has been persisting since the beginning of the summer.
    '''This only happens in Firefox.'''
    Resolutions I have tried:
    * Enabled cookies for websites
    * Checked/Unchecked "Use custom settings for history"
    * Deleted cookies, cache, Site Preferences and History
    * Checked all plugins and extensions
    * Uninstalled then reinstalled Firefox
    * Complete system can for Viruses and Malware
    * Upgraded and downgraded the Firefox version
    * Deleted the cookies.sqlite file and any cookies.sqlite-journal files

Do you have security software (firewall) that can block cookies?
Does it work if you switch on Private Browsing mode?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Leopard "Blue screen of death" - total system crash!

So my new mac crashed. Again.
Recently I've experienced that my mac freezes when I start to do some heavy work, like video-editing or Photoshop. A re-install solved the problem for around two weeks, before the same thing happend again yesterday:
During a update of Final Cut Studio, my Mac suddenly freezes, and I had to do a forced quit. After this reboot my mac got to a blue screen (after the loading-apple-screen), and nothing more.
After around 14 reboots, I decided to do a archive and re-install. This re-install took *14 HOURS*, and now it stops at the loading Apple-logo.
Tryed to verify the disc with the Disk Utility software, showed up fine. Tryed to repair the permissions - came up some errors (apparently some missing files(?), before it said that it was fixed. Finally I tryed an extended hardware test - showed up nothing wrong.
Then I got the idea that I maybe could make a 2nd partition of the harddrive, preserving the exsisting data, and install Leopard on that new one. But when I try to install Leopard on this, I get an estimated *21 hours* of time to install.
I've also tryed to boot from a Linux-bootable USB-stick I use with my Acer-PC, but it refuse to boot from that.
So I'm pretty much stuck right now. When I try to open the machine in Single User Mode, it tells me a bunch of errors, before the following lines is repeated:
    disk0s2: I/O error.
    0 [Level 3] [ReadUID 0] [Facility com.apple.system.fs] [ErrType I0] [I0Type Read] [PBlkNum 373453728] [LBlkNum 1356] [FSLogMsgID 591622195] [FSogMsgOrder First]
    0 [Level 3] [ReadUID 0] [Facility com.apple.system.fs] [DevNode root_device] [MountPt > [Path (usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib] [FSLogMsgID 5916221951] [FSLogMsgOrder Last]
Could it be the harddrive, the RAM, or something completly else?
    Any help is much appreciated!

Run DU and verify/repair the HD and also permissions.
Run Activity Monitor and check your Page outs which are related to RAM usage. If it is high, it indicates you are using your HD in lieu of RAM for whatever reason. It's not good and at the minimum slows things down.
You can also run a RAM check, such as Rember
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20050524014158525
Also check that your computer is not overheating.

  • Sulky Macbook Snow Leopard Blues

    Hi all
    I have a problem with a Black MacBook 2.4ghz.     2.5mb ram
It was running very smoothly with Leopard, but I upgraded to snow leopard, first using the generic snow leopard installer DVD and then the updater, bringing it to 10.6.8.
Also then I ran software update to bring everything else up to date too (apart from iTunes.. i like cover flow so stick at iTunes 10)
Since then problems........ it boots, and 'appears' to be fine - I get to desktop etc fairly quickly (about 90 seconds.. much slower than Leopard was, but i can live with 90 seconds)
However once it is booted I am locked out - the track pad moves the cursor, but will not click for about 4 or 5 minutes ... then it starts working and I have a functioning Macbook as normal.
I have of course tried plugging a USB mouse into it too, and the same 4-5 minute wait happens,
Sometimes when it boots blue screen lasts about 4 or 5 mins and then it boots normally to desktop.. it seems like that 4 or 6 min period is a dead zone for it, either cos it's stuck in blue screen, or stuck on an unresponsive desk top.
Only other problem is it will not start from sleep .. close the lid on it and it's dead.. no amount of time will get it to wake up and no amount of key pressing will either.. I have to do an emergency restart and then wait for it to go through it's 4 or 5 minute wake up sulk again.
No eithernet ports work either - but that may or may not be connected .. I dont know if they did whenit had leopard on it  as I never tried them - So I only have USB on it.
I've done all the basics - zapped the Pram, re set nvram, started up from DVD and ran repair disc and permissions
I'm at the stage of thinking I ought to wipe the HD and go back to Leopard but I would like to use snow leopard as there are some apps I want to use onit that wont run on basic leopard
    Any help gratefully received
    Blessings to all
    Nick

    Well what happened is this.
You upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 on a very full boot hard drive, this has the unfortunate effect of writting 10.6 to the slower parts of the drive, the area that hasn't been used enough yet so the little bad bits haven't had a chance to be mapped off by the driver firmware.
Snow Leopard is the fastest OS X verison of 10.5, 10.7 and 10.8, however only if freshly installed or  cloned (you'll see later)
So to resolve your issue, which I assume you want to keep any 10.5 installed software. (as a erase and install of 10.6 will wipe it off, also you may find out that 10.5 won't boot from the disk anymore since it's a outdated OS X version.)
Ok, this is what you do.
1: Copy your users folders of music, pictures, documents etc., to a regular external drive (no TimeMachine drives for now) disconnect so there isn't a mistake made.
    Most commonly used backup methods
2: Next you run through this list of fixes as best as you think is necessary and fix all your software on the machine so it's working like a peach.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
3: Next you do this defragmentation User Tip, this will reduce your users files on the drive so your under 50% filled, then you reverse clone 10.6.8 back on, which will place all the files together and optimize your boot hard drive in the process.
How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
4: Lastly you pick through this User Tip how to speed the interface, use a tweaked browser and other tricks to get the maximum performance out of your lovely Snow Leopard.
    For Snow Leopard Speed Freaks
5: Don't consider going any further in the OS X verisons, your machine is rather dated for the Lions etc. and you'll have to buy much of all your software new versions as well as going without older PPC ones.
Snow Leopard has 25% market share still, it is getting updates and I expect it to do so for antoher couple of years at least.
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still
However if you do want to erase and install Snow Leopard

  • Slow Booting Leopard (Blue Screen)

I was trying to tweak my boot time of leopard. It shows a blue screen for a long time before showing desktop. I checked log and found a few problems and deleted and unloaded various services (I removed machinit_peruser.d and mach_init.d folders and inloaded com.apple.dnbobserver.plist. Finally I think I got the problem in the log but I am not sure of the solution to tweak it.
this is the log which seems culprit to me.
    +08/05/08 4:31:41 PM com.apple.launchctl.System[2] com.openssh.sshd: Already loaded+
+08/05/08 4:31:52 PM org.ntp.ntpd[25] Error : nodename nor servname provided, or not known+
    +08/05/08 4:32:14 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.UserEventAgent-LoginWindow[78]) Exited:Terminated+
So majority of blue screen time (almost 23 seconds) is spend here. Any idea what is is this UserEventAgent thing or org.ntp.ntpd stuff and any suggestions to shut them off.
I am sure many users have the same problem. If someone could find out why is this happening, I am sure it is resolved issue.

    More Updates:
I figured out org.ntp.ntpd is related to time server thing. So disabling auto time updates, i narrowed down to the following log
    +08/05/08 4:59:31 PM com.apple.launchctl.System[2] com.openssh.sshd: Already loaded+
    +08/05/08 5:00:10 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.UserEventAgent-LoginWindow[78]) Exited: Terminated+
    +08/05/08 5:00:13 PM Dock[95] _DESCRegisterDockExtraClient failed 268435459+
+08/05/08 5:00:15 PM [0x0-0xf00f].com.apple.iTunesHelper[107] USBMuxListenerCreate: No such file or directory+
So I guess I am pretty sure, blue screen has something to do with com.apple.UserEventAgent-LoginWindow. Can anyone tell me what it is and can we safely unload it from launch agents and how?

  • IQ770 All other users logging on just get a blue screen

I have no problem logging on to the PC with my user account, but when any other user that I set up (or the Guest logon) attempts to log it says "Wecome" and then goes to a blue screen and that's it (even if the new User account is set up with Administrator privileges).  If I do a CTL-ALT-DEL at that point it will bring up the screen that allows me to Switch User or shut down the PC - if I switch to my user account it says the other user is logged on but they just get the blue screen.  Anyone have any idea what is going on or how to fix it?  Thanks much.

    Might be a virus.
I suggest creating a new account again, and wiping out their accounts if their data is saved.
If this doesn't work, either System Restore or System Recovery.
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.
1 HP TouchPad 32 GB with Android
    2 HP Touchsmarts (310-1000z and IQ527)
    2 HP Printers (J6480 and J5750)
    1 Laptop (HP DV6253CL)
Have at least some experience in each of those devices, and i'll do my best to help you.
    Kudos if I helped!
