Sudden onset whirlligig insanity! Why? Whats the prob causing it to swirl every 8-10 sec? Cant think of anything new or out of the norm that I could have possibly installed to cause the snag.I use firefox. No new plugins, nada. In fact, for the most part I've been using my iPad primarily, much more often than my mac for the past two months or so due to my schedule and running around. I really cant pinpoint what I may have done/changed to potentially cause anything different let alone whiligig out of the blue. Give me your thoughts to help narrow down and tackle this issue. Anything specific whirligiging you recently? That helps, let me know. Ugh, the random case of the whirligig, so small in comparison, is the only remote thing that triggers those dark memories of "viruses", and the loads of anti-virus BS "needed" back in the old days owning a PC. Terrible. More reason to get my mac back to full health asap.

I assume that the "whirligig" you are referring to is the rainbow-colored "beach ball" cursor. Is that correct? If so, you may find a solution to the problem in my Mac Performance Guide.

Try double tapping the movie clip itself when inserted in the timeline and ensure that sound is on on the actual clip on the movie time line.

There could be many causes and many solutions. All of them start with creating a backup using iCloud or iTunes on your computer. After that, try some of the steps written about in this blog;

If none of that helps, you may consider putting the iPhone into DFU mode (Google it) which will reset the firmware that monitors the battery. -

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and all open tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

The Finder is just assigning the wrong kind and icon to what I presume are plist files. Often rebuilding the Launch Services will cure this, but sometimes Finder gets a strange bee in its bonnet about some particular combination of characteristics and what they mean, and it can't be dissuaded. Unless you are opening plist files, and get really annoyed when you double click one and Address Book launches and announces "wrong type of file" you can just ignore it. In my own ~/Library/Prefences folder plists are generally labeled correctly, probably because I have them assigned to open with Apple's own Property List Editor. But there are some other preferences that Finder has decided are something altogether different than what they are: WingNuts Prefs and Saved Games are both believed to be Eudora preferences; a whole batch of other prefs from a dozen differenct programs are described as TextWrangler preferences, and there's a another group thought to be Unix Executables. As long as the program they belong to isn't having a problem finding and writing to them, don't worry about it.

1. Check if you have any software which may prevent the installer from running. For example, Windows Defender or any other software which may restrict your permissions.
2. Just start the computer.
3. Run the setup as admin.
4. Check your UAC permissions.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

Sig, I appreciate you trying to be helpful. I have no idea what issues you were having or what issue exactly pgrounds has been having. Your assumption that everyone's set up is the same as yours is false however. There are many many documented WiFi issues that are a result of Lion installs. Many have been solved by 10.7.1 and 10.7.2. Others have been solved by a large variety of work arounds. Others have not had their issues solved yet.
I am one of those. I have an IT background, and I spent the better of five hours digging up workarounds and attempting all of them. For the benefit oh anyone who is having similar issues, I have posted links to all of those workarounds here. None of them worked in my case, but hopefully they will help pgrounds or others.
So, once again, if you have a new idea, I'd love to here it. But if it has already been posted in one of these links, it's not helpful, let it go.

I want to burn my imovie to a dvd. All the help info says to use idvd but I can't get it to open. The applecare guy said idvd is no longer included in new macs, so why are all the instructions still saying to use it? Is one of the other software offerings, like dvd Cfreator for Mac, ok to use for this? What's the best one?
Please clarify what you mean by "you can't get it to open". Is iDVD on your system or not? If this is a new iMac, iDVD is no longer bundled with new Macs, so the application just isn't there and hence of course can't be opened. You can still purchase it as part of the retail iLife '11 box, though, if you want it, and it would be less expensive than DVD Creator (which I have no experience with), even though you'll get some redundant applications.

What are the Java iView 'Help' possibilities?

Currently we are investigating what the possibilities are of the 'Help' option for iViews.
If I understand correctly, you can have only one help link included in the context menu.
However, according to common UI preconceptions, it would make more sense to have a separate Help icon, instead of having it as a menu item under the Options icon (ie. help is available right away, plus you immediatly see whether help is available or not)
Regarding this I have two questions:
Would it be possible to have a Help icon next to the Options icon in the iView tray?
And if so, would it then be possible to have multiple links in a help dropdown if a user clicks that help icon?
Any input is greatly appreciated!

Robin van het HofNot sure if it helps, but we are using the standard iView help link now that SAP have kindly re-instated the functionality in the next round of EP support packs (see OSS note 875858). This method allows you to specify a URL to whatever help files you like in each iView.
I agree with Michael that the standard iView help is a little hard for users to find when it's buried in the options menu. To get around that issue we have created our own iView tray icon image in the universal yellow question mark style, and loaded it up with the portal theme editor. I would show you what I meant if we could include images in SDN posts
