Sudden scratch on MBP's lower corner screen - Pls comment

I found a small deep cut/scratch at the very lower left corner of the screen. It can be seen when the display is opened and it's actually at a very hidden area (behind the spine of the bottom case).
I am still thinking the cause of the cut/scratch, and it doesnt appear that it got rubbed against by the top of the speaker panel when the display closes because I never closed the screen since day 1 and also I can see there's space in between the two even if it's closed.
Has it happened on this type of alum finish that the surface coating gets faked/chipped off due to dry weather? This is the only possibility I can think of. Because humidity was severely low this past week.
As a matter of fact, I never closed the display before, and the MBP has been sitting on my desk (like a desktop) since day one when purchased brand new & sealed.
Also, if it was scratched or rubbed by something, the more open and exposed area nearby would get scratched first. Because like described above, the spot is so hidden that nothing could easily get to it, even my fingertip!
Here're pictures of the scratch/cut:

Lastly, I was wondering if Apple would take care of this type of fault?
Thanks for your comment

Hi,
My MBP is only 2 months ago. It was purchased brand new sealed back in Sept. It has never been carried out and been sitting on my desk since day 1.
I had a close examination of it and it looks like the scratch is quite deep, but small.
Seriously, I clean/dust my computer all the time and whatever comes up (even a tiny mark) I'll notice immediately.
But I was just wondering if this could be a defect and if anyone who owns a PB/MBP with this type of finish had a similar case in the past.
I've heard a lot of defects reported on the keyboard/keypad area, but mostly are paint chips and not scratches.

    Hi Mary,
    I don't remember those arrows in 10.6, only 10.7 & up!?
I have 10.6.8, as you do. To make your Safari full screen, make sure you have the left hand side of your safari page moved  all the way to the left.  Then move your cursor to the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the safari page, and simply drag your page towards the lower right hand corner of the screen. NOTE: you will see a series of lines on the bottom right corner of the page, indicating where to place you cursor arrow.

  • '09 MBP with some odd screen anomalies

My MBP has some odd screen anomalies. They appear as small blotches of greyness and can only be seen clearly on a white background and when the backlight is bright. When viewed from a viewing angle almost parallel with the screen, one can clearly see the overall shape. They exist in an almost perfectly round ring around the center of the display with an average diameter of about 2.5 inches. The greyness is thickest on the top half of the ring. There is a distinct spot about half an inch above center and the lower semicircle is filled with random grey dots. It looks like, of all things, the Death Star if looked at straight on, or as if someone used the screen as a cupholder.
It doesn't look like image persistence or dead pixles. The anomaly does not move around or change colors, nor does it appear to get any better or worse with time.
I have no idea where it came from or why...
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!
    /Tycho

do a pram reset http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379  and then try verifying your icc color profiles with colorsync utility (verify and repair) found in your utlities folder in the applications folder.
This sounds hardware related though and you should take it in to an apple specialist. sounds like a ball hit it or someone punched it and the LCD is broken. can you still see it when you turn the screen/computer off?)

  • My 4th Generation 80GB iPod is alternating between the Apple logo & the low battery screen

My 4th Generation 80GB iPod isn't opening iTunes or otherwise being recognized when I connect it to my computer. Instead, it keeps alternating between the Apple logo & the "Please wait, very low battery" screen, even though I just charged it yesterday.
Any advice would be deeply appreciated, thanks!

Shortly after this message was posted, this mysterious, annoying and quite upsetting issue occurred yet again.  (The issue originally happened when I tried to plug my iPod into my Windows 7 notebook via the USB cord that came with the device.)
So I tried plugging it into the gadget for my car's cigarette lighter, therefore using a different cord. Sadly, the Apple logo and "very low battery" message reappeared and kept alternating. Same thing when I plugged in my headphones.
But I wasn't going to let that deter me from trying again. The next stop consisted of plugging it into someone else's MacBook Pro. Wouldn't you know, suddenly my iPod was functioning again! The screen lit up with that lovely "Do not disconnect" message and iTunes launched. (Maybe it needed some Apple-on-Apple love?)  Furthermore, my iPod now works with my Windows notebook again — along with all the other methods mentioned in this post.
In conclusion, should you find yourself in the same predicament, try hooking it up to a Mac. I don't know how or why, but that's what worked for me.
    Cheers,
    echo

  • I have an iPod Touch 5th generation and all of a sudden it started freezing on the lock screen.

I have an iPod Touch 5th generation that I've had since Christmas 2012 and suddenly today (June 27) when I tried opening one of my apps it froze and then shut the app down. At first I thought it was the app, but then it started happening to Safari and my Photos app. By time I had gotten to work when I slid the bar over to unlock it, it froze and wouldn't do anything. I had tried turning it off, holding the lock button down and sliding the power off slide, but the screen went black instead of turning off. Every few minutes it would suddenly light back up on the lock screen but wouldn't do anything after I slid the thing to unlock it. Sometimes it would seem to turn itself back on (even though I wasn't aware it had turned off, the apple logo never showed up) from black to the loading page (black screen with little circle thing lighting up to show it's loading) to the lock screen which wouldn't do anything. The time is constantly on track and the wifi connectivity icon on the top bar even shows when there's wifi, I just can't do anything with it. I could double tap the Home button and the music bar would show up and the volume level would change through me touching the screen and through the volume buttons on the side, but it wouldn't play anything. I also can hold the Home button and Siri shows up but then I can't actually speak anything to it.
I've managed to connect it to my computer and back it up to iCloud and on my computer and am trying to restore it right now, but I would like to know what's wrong with it. I've had it for about 7 months and have never had any issues with it like this before.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store..
If your iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost.

    Hi guys.
I've had my MacBook Pro for 2 years now. Last night it suddenly kept glitching to a dark grey screen every now and then, then it would flash yellow / blue spots, and now it won't go past the grey screen even when I reboot it.
I don't think I can access my disk anymore as I've moved across countries since I've first gotten my laptop.  it was working perfectly fine before  it kept going to the dark grey screen with a little blue on the bottom.
If it helps, my camera light is still on, and it seems that my computer is working properly itself, but won't go past this grey screen.
I'm a college student and am really panicking about this - can anyone please tell me what to do?
Thank you & sorry for the long post.

What operating system are you running on it? (iOS 5.1 is for iPhone, iPad...not a Mac).

  • IPhone 5 crashes on iOS 8 and goes to low battery screen

I was just using my iPhone 5, iOS 8.1.3, and it crashed and went to the low battery screen even though it was 53%. I plugged it in and powered it back on, and it was 53% (iPhone had not lost any charge).
I don't know what is causing this problem, but it has happened 4 times now.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, or is it a certain configuration or setting that causes this problem?

thank you for typing on apple community
    try to reset your phone
    step 1:

    step 3
    go under setting
    go to general
    go to reset
and go to erase all content and settings

  • How to get rid of "done" in lower corner/ endless flickering "loading" in iGoogle

On my iGoogle homepage, the refresh button on top stays brown as if it's endlessly loading while in the lower left corner it flashes something like i.gmodules. I can stop it manually by clicking on it up top but it's very annoying. Also on other programs like Netflix it says "done" in the lower corner and won't go away.

    Hi
Just go to Repository Manager and On the left side of the Repo Manager you can set filters. Type the Content id for those contents that you know or better put the Indexer status as GenWWW. This will show up all the contents with the status as GenWWW. Just select all of them and delete them. This will be a Hard Delete means that it will deleted from the CS altogether.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

  • There is no i in lower corner of yahoo weather app

Hi there is no "i" in the lower right corner of my weather app. I am trying to learn how to use the app and learn it's features.......
    Thanks
    Charles

The title of your post says "yahoo weather app" -- so I'm not sure if you are referring to the standard weather app (which does use Yahoo) or if you have downloaded Yahoo's weather app which has more features. However, neither of them has an "i" in the lower corner in the current versions.

There is a possibility that your digitizer has malfunctioned. I had a similar problem on my iphone 3gs whereas the lower left part of my screen didnt respond to touch at all. Take your phone to an Apple store and have them fix it for you. I fixed my iphone 3gs' digitizer by replacing it myself because my phone was out of warranty, and there arent any Apple stores nearby. But you should definitely take your phone to Apple store and let them fix it for you, because in order to replace digitizer on iphone 4, you really need to be skillful when it comes to phone repairs, and attemting any repairs yourself voids your warranty. Hope I helped. Cheers mate

  • Low batter screen when plugged in; Computer won't recognize iPod

My iPod stopped working two days ago. When I try to turn it on the screen stays blank. I've tried resetting it (holding down all buttons), and the screen remains blank.
When charging, the display flashes on to the "charging, low battery" screen, then goes back to black.
I've left it to charge for 24 hours, and I get no response.
My computer (and iTunes) won't recognize it when plugged in. I've tried manual searches, USB function scans, checked my cords, re-installed iTunes, and still nothing happens.
Once iTunes did recognize the iPod, and said it "detected a device in recovery mode". I let it go on, but when the recovery pack was done downloading I got an eror #1602 pop-up telling me the device could not be detected.
Is this a battery issue? Can I fix my device, or is it a lost cause?
    Thank you for your time.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • Lower Left Screen Darker than rest, How to go about repair under warranty?

Well my lower left screen is darker than the rest of my screen on my 12" powerbook g4. My warranty is good for another 88 days but my problem is that sometimes the darkness goes away - and I'm worried that if I send it in for repair that the darkness won't be showing up and they'll just send it back to me. Is there anything I can do about this? Advice?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Kris.
Many PowerBook screens can have some form of uneven illumination - but they will normally clear and work 'normally' after it has warmed up. How long does the uneven illumination stay? Unless the problem is evident most of the time, it is quite possible that the screen will be deemed to be within spec. My own experience with the problem, overall, is that it does not get better with time - it either stays the same or gets worse.
If you do have it inspected (either by an Apple Authorised Service Provider or by AppleCare) then you can prepare it by doing the following:
    1. set the brightness to half
    2. set the desktop background to Solid White in "Desktop & Screen Saver" within System Preferences
NB. Solid White is just to the right of the last colour, Solid Mint.
