  • Suddenly Slow Performance

My powerbook G4, which I bought three months ago, has worked very well until the last two weeks. First, I think it had a bizarre overheating problem which caused it to randomly fall asleep, only to be woken by removing and then replacing the battery and the power supply. After reading about many other users with such problems, I seem to have solved it by elevating it off my desk enabling more air flow around the bottom of the computer. Now, however, I have a new problem. Yesterday everything was running smoothly, but today when I use it, even for the simplest tasks, the performance is dreadfully slow. It is literally running about 1/5 the speed it was yesterday. I have 1.5 G of memory, all of which shows up, and in the activity monitor my idle CPU usage is always 0. Any ideas?

download macjanitor and run tasks daily, weekly, or all, it's up to you. This may or may not improve system performance.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad Z410 Battery Suddenly Drops From 100% to 0%

I have had my Lenovo IdeaPad Z410 since around January, and I have just recently expierienced the problem of the battery dropping to zero. What happens is my battery will be draining at a normal pace then all of a sudden my laptop will shut down and will not go back on as it thinks the battery is dead. If it is plugged when this happens then the orange battery low light will begin flashing and the message goes from saying "Fully charged (100%)" to "1% remaining (plugged in, charging)". This is quite annoying as I cannot take my laptop anywhere without fear of it randomly dying on me. I would assume I wouldn't need a new battery after only having the laptop for a few months. Also, if you are not familiar with this model, the battery is built in internally so I cannot try removing it and putting it back in myself. Any advice would be appreciated; I'd rather not deal with Lenovo's customer support unless I absolutely have to.

    hi LordMothim,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Based from your findings, it's possible that:
    - the battery circuit inside is not working to unload the charge, or
    - one of the battery cells have already reached its life span
    - the chip that handles how the battery gets charge/discharge and checks the charge level of each battery cell (both are controlled by a firmware) is malfunctioning.
Batteries degrade overtime due to heat and daily use. If you're still under warranty, I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you most likely need a replacement battery.

  • Sudden extreme slow performance

I have run Tiger on this machine for about 6 months with no problems. In the last few weeks everything has started slowing down noticably. The hard disk is running ragged, constantly reading/writing, from looking at the cpu monitor it seems like the computer is not actually using it's ram and is just reading and writing. I tried clearing caches and that worked for a few hours but the machine now seems to lock up after a few hours use. I get to the point where i cannot open menus, switch programs, or even force quit or restart. Everything locks up - spinning beachball - and the hard disk is left constantly writing. I have 9 -15Gb free out of 40Gb on the disk - i assume this is enough. Playing music and safari is no problem. But I am using iphoto and photoshop as well as other programs in the background. This was never previously a problem and ran smoothly. I know it's fairly vague but if anyone can help..

    Hi, Ben.
Thanks. However, it would help to see some of the specific data points from the instructions in those FAQs. Specifically:
    1. You wrote: "(the pageins/outs are about equal) but i'm getting REALLY slow performance across the board. "It still sounds like it is "thrashing."1.1. Did you check the pagesin/pageouts per second as described in my "Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space" FAQ? The per-second values can only be found using top as described therein.
1.2. Did you check for a runaway process in Activity Monitor per the "Troubleshooting" section in my "Tuning Mac OS X Performance" FAQ?.
The activity you describe (beach ball, heavy disk writing) has to be coming from somewhere, so checking Activity Monitor as I describe in that FAQ should tell you. Find the process consuming the most %CPU as instructed in the FAQ. Post back the result, i.e. the process name.2. You wrote: "It seems to lock itself up with the hard disk clicking and crunching. Is it possible the hard disk is giving up and so is writing at a very slow speed??? "To check this, see my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ:2.1. Perform at least Steps 1-3 of the Procedure section therein in the order specified.
2.2. Also, review the section therein on "Bad Sectors" to see if the "clicking and crunching" sounds you are hearing are similar to those that generally indicate bad sectors.3. If the disk checks out OK per point 2 above, and depending on what you find in point 1.2 above, the process may be an errant Startup or Login Item. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
    Good luck!

  • Bug report: Energy Manager causes slow performance...

    Very slow Windows Startup..
Energy Manager's plans and the problem occured using any plan as I remember, and it wasn't an issue with the maximum processor state. I had heavy disk usage, especially access to the Page File, which is what the person in the second link I posted also described. CPU usage was low. The disk usage was seemingly not related to Energy Manager (Chrome was usually the worst), but removing Energy Manager completely resolved the problem. If you would find it helpful. I'm quite confident that even with Maximum Processor state at %100, CPU usage was low when it was slow, and that disk access was the culprit.
previously have use 1.0.0.31 or 32 not sure.
    Windows 8.1
Im using Lenovo Energy Management Driver
    1.0.0.28
    4.6.2014

I actually have the same problem.  Sorry to work on a old thread, but...
I've got my Lenovo B50-70 less than 1 month ago, and had switched it to SSD and had set everything up and is working perfectly.  However there are a bunch of lenovo programs that came pre-installed.  This computer is used mainly for work and I really don't like programs that suddenly pop-up and ask you to do stuff, as it is quite distracting, and with Lenovo Energy Manager being one of them so I removed it.  (I did do some research before I remove...)
Everything was fine, until when I try to switch on my wifi (I usually have it off, as I use LAN most of the time)...  For the B50-70 there is a airplane button on F7, which allow the user to switch wifi and bluetooth on/off.  That button was unresponsive...  After some digging it is actually related to the power energy manager being removed.  So I've downloaded the latest version from Lenovo and it was working again...
However though, whenever I start my computer it is taking so long to start...  And I tried uninstalling the power energy manager and it solved the problem...  And I am stuck with either having no wifi on/off ability or a really slow boot, which loses the whole purpose of the SSD.  After you enter your username and password it originally takes around 5~10 seconds to login, now it takes over 1 minute.
I have found this other link, which says Lenovo Power Manager having the same problem.
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Bug-report-Power-Manager-causes-slow-performa...
There is a solution, which you can change the registry to switch a function off.  I've tried it and it didn't work, which is not surprising as it's a different program..  But I am hoping that Lenovo can provide a similar solution for Lenovo Energy Manager...

  • No Webcam on my Lenovo Ideapad S10 - Please Help

    Hi
I own a Lenovo Ideapad S10 with Windows XP.
When I bought the computer, the inbuilt webcam was working perfectly. Then, all of a sudden, the webcam somehow disappeared.
When I press Fn + Esc, it says the Webcam is not installed.
I read all the forum posts and tried to down load the Easy Cam Driver for S10 with Windows XP. No Driver shows up for the Camera (http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=43)
Can someone please help me ?
    Cheers

  • Problems with Lenovo Ideapad y510p

Hi, I got my new Lenovo Ideapad y510p for a month ago, and  three weeks after it started acting wierd by having a slow startup and sometimes it just had black screen when it was starting up. Sometimes I have to hold down the  power and try several times to turn on the computer. When it do start up, at the begining (after the lenovo logo) it makes some black screen switching (not sure if it correct way to describe it), and then it take ages for it to get on the login screen, and get on desktop, its like it doesn't have an SDD. Any help?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Zenadbeg,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that your Y510p laptop is not working as expected and takes long time to boot into Windows, below are the steps to check and resolve the issue in the computer:
Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue
To access the BIOS menu click the NOVO button which at the left-hand side of the computer next to AC power adapter jack.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on “F9” Key and select YES.
Now Click on “F10” Key to safe the changes that are done in BIOS, restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.
    Hope this helps!!!
Do post us back if the issue persists.
    Best Regards
    Shiva Kumar

  • CS5 or Pc  Slow performance?

Hi there,I have a problem with my pc at work and because I am not quite sure in which one is exactly the problem I decide to ask you.The pc is intel pentium 4 with 3 Gb Ram  XP professional service pack 3 Photoshop CS 5.
The pc is connected to server(data base). When I open a bunch of photos (20-30) approximately 8 - 12 MB each one and sometimes I experience a slow performance(for example I am trying to retouch/clone something and it takes a lot of time for the pc to redraw/respond) the interesting part is that it doesn't happen always(sometimes can be even 3 photos and it will take ages to do something) also I notice that after appr. 20 minutes it's suddenly start to work as it should normally(it's like there was an update and when is updated/complete everything is fine). When that start to happen today I restart CS5 and load the same photos and it work fine, so it is really bizarre for me.I put a 89% ram usage to the CS5(I pretty much use only all the time Photoshop and bridge )   also made the history steps to 7 and the cache to 6 for big and flat files.I was checking the Efficiency and it's all the time 100 % so it's like it's not the photoshop but like I said today i just restard the ps and upload the same photos and got fix...I tried to copy the photos on my hard drive(so it should not be affect of the performance of the server but still the same as when I take them straight from the server.Because the hard drive is only 80 gb ( I don't store anything there )   i did clean up and disk defragment still  the same situation.Do you know what can be the problem and is it the Photoshop or the Pc?I'll appreciate it.
    Thank you

Could be that your PC is sometimes looking to check things on the server, and maybe the server or network is busy/bogged down and you PC gets caught in that cycle mess.....so,
suggest next time you use Ps, set win performance monitor perfmon.exe or perfmon.msc ; setup to view graph of disk use and network activity and cpu usage.....then you may see/track a problem area.
on win7, task manager does most of the same stuff

  • [concluded] Enabling SLI (Lenovo Ideapad y500 / dual gt 650m)

    final edit:
Apparently there is no support for sli on mobile nvidia gpu. Thank you ever so much Nvidia, you willf orever hold a special place in my heart..

As far as I know, I've follow the instruction to the letter, but all I get i a black screen and a log with no particular useful information that I can find:

I've been googling around for answers, but the closest thing I've come to an answer, and I do hope it isn't true, is that sli om mobile nvidia gpu is not supported under linux. I've been unable to confirm this.
I do hope you can help.
    Best regards.

    Do not do this.
If you want help, start providing relevant information beyond "it don't work".  You say you followed the instructions ... which instructions?  What steps did you take?  It is clear from your xorg.conf that you did not follow the only instructions I could find in the archlinux wiki.  Follow those instructions, and post the output of the relevant diagnostic or information-gathering steps included there.
Also if you have information which could be useful - such as which mobile devices/cards allegedly don't work - then share that.  Don't keep us in the dark.
I should think that it's quite obvious that I've followed the wiki instruction, which basically is one line in xorg, as is the official nvidia instructions.
This is most likely a problem related specificlally to the gt 650m and/or the lenovo ideapad y500 (and perhaps derivatives thereof).
I do not believe I've left any information out.
Of course if I've done something wrong, I apologize and will do my best to avoid it in the future. As for the rest, I'd very much like to know which instructions I did not follow, as I've done all that I can think of and telling me that I haven't is hardly useful. As far as I aware, the wiki instructs you to  ad two line in the xorg.conf, which I've done. I will of course read it again, hoping to figure out what I've apparently missed, though I've read it so many times already that I don't expect to learn anything.

  • Slow Performance Weeks after Encryption

I encrypted my organization's laptops several weeks ago and did not return them to users until after I could tell by device performance that the bulk encrypting task had completed. I have two users that are experiencing extremely slow performance on their systems. When the users are typing anything like a Word document, upon each keystroke they see the Windows 7 "circle" icon at the mouse cursor. This seems to come and go several times over the week, and every few days we are getting a request to resolve the issue but after restarting the behavior may not act up anymore.
I found a TID suggesting to change HKLM\SOFTWARE\Novell-FDE\Parameters\ThrottleEncryption to a lower level like Idle or BelowNormal. Is there anything else that I should also try? Thanks!

Yes, but nothing from Novell yet - I will keep pushing them forward and let you know if I get some results.

Sounds like you have a SR going on this also. Have you heard anything on a
fix? Mine has been stagnant for a while and I just bumped it to see if
anything has been figured out or if more info is needed from my side. Hope
to here something soon. This is a pretty severe problem especially when it
happens multiple times to a machine.

    Hi,
We have had (maybe) similar issues with our FDE setup that FDE policy
assigned devices tend to loose the policy and start to do disk decryption
and suddenly get once again the policy back and start to encrypt again. This
could be found from "ZCM agent, Full disk encryption, about, Agents status,
Settings, on section "Emergency Recovery Information" you could see events
'Zone Changed' what according to Novell support meant that the policy was
"re-initialized / changed" even our policy counter have not changed = policy
    got lost in some phase.
We are now suspecting that there is some issues with the policy service that
    plays tricks on us.

In ZCC on the devices that you are having issues with look at the Emergency
Recovery tab and see if you have multiple listings in here that corresponds
to the slowness. If so your devices are decrypting and then re-encrypting.
Your mention of being asked to reboot leads me to believe that is what is
    happening to you.
I have had a few SRs going on this one for a while and it got bumped to
backend but no info in a month or so.

  • Lenovo (IDEAPAD/ESSENTIAL) service in Poland

    Hello,
I want to introduce a few facts about the IdeaPad service in Poland. I do not know how is in other countries, but in Poland are separate services for a series of IdeaPad / Essential and Thinkpad. This is what happens in the service of "A-NOVO" ( service for lenovo IdeaPad / Essential) is more than pathetic ...
    Look here:LINK 1
    LINK 2
There are some more examples.  "A-NOVO" also fixes the HP notebooks( Pavilion). HP (Pavilion) and Lenovo (Ideapad) service has already become a legend in Poland and the polish branch of lenovo does not do anything with these opinions.
"The famous service from Wolomin*. What a lot of talking here, not on their strengths, the equipment comes back battered and dirty after the repair warranty, unless of course will be considered."
*Wolomin - city where the service is established

    Hello!
I experienced problems with the service in Poland also. In September I bought a Lenovo U310 from Flanco ( Bucharest, Romania).
My laptop is still in the service there ( I sent it on 31st of January, so it's one month since it is there). My laptop had software problems (it blocked very often, although it was brand new - I had it for 3 months). The diagnosis from the service was - broken display, they said that the display got broken during the transportation because it was not packed properly (I packed it in its original box and sealed it just as in the instructions, I asked the courier if it was properly packed he said yes - there were no other people there to check the state I hand in the laptop, to evaluate it, so the courier was the only person I could talk to, but anyways, I think that there was no problem with the packaging). After one month they sent me the bill for repairing the display (140euros), they said that I have to pay because the guarantee doesn't cover it. I paid, because I had already stayed one month without a laptop and it was very difficult, i had to borrow laptops from friends to do my projects, so I was in a very desperate need to get it back as soon as possible. However, I am very upset of the way I was treated (an employee from the call center called me and said that if i don't pay the bill within a day, they will sent my laptop back unrepaired, it sounded like a rude threat). I think also it is very unfair to be obliged to pay for damages that I didn't produce and to wait one month for my laptop to be repaired (I even moved from Romania to Belgium in this month and asked them to deliver the laptop to my new adress in Belgium, but they said that is not possible - so now I have to find somebody to receive my laptop in Romania and re-send it to me in Belgium - some extra livration taxes that I will pay myself because of the inefficient services of Lenovo). I also think this procedure is very faulty - because all the problems are discussed by phone with people from the call center, even the connection with the service in Poland is done thorugh the call center and this slows the communication process, and there is nobody there to do an evaluation when you hand in the laptop (who can prove now that I didn't pack the laptop correctly? - I think this is just an excuse to cover the damages of the  courier company - UPS - and to make me pay for it). Instead of solving this problem correctly and decently, they prefered to argue with me, put me in a difficult position and totaly lose me and all my friends as a customer. What is more, I see on the Lenovo fanpage Romania that a lot of people are complaining about this, so it is a very serious problem. The company should do something about this, in my opinion. It already had a lot of problems in the past, now it is creating a bad reputation also just because some badly managed procedures which could be set in place .

  • Lenovo Ideapad U410: part of screen is white

I have a Lenovo Ideapad U410 and the left part of my screen is uniformly white after turning on the laptop. It's a rectangle about 1 inch long, from top of the screen to the bottom.
I got this suddenly pretty much a month after buying the laptop (it appeared suddenly and I didn't do anything to cause it), and then the area of the white rectangle got bigger after I mistakenly dropped my laptop yesterday.
Would buying a new screen and installing it fix this, or could the problems be more besides the screen?
And is this covered by limited warranty?
    Thanks.

    Hi Dsav6,
As per your concern, I would suggest you to please re-install the graphics driver of your system from the below mentioned web link.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073650
Afterwards, please restart the system and check if the issue still persists then it needs a personal assistance and it will be covered under warranty.
    Regards,
    Sameer

  • Slow performance from Premiere Elements 10

    Hi guys,
I recently purchased Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements 10 to edit some wedding video.  I am experiencing some slow performance with the software (and random lockups for that matter).  My CPU usage shows nearly nil when using the program and with IE with multiple tabs open at the moment and the Premiere Elements open, I am showing that I still have about 5GB of RAM free.  However, I am still getting some slow performance from the software with random lockups.  The video came from a sony HDR-CX700V camera, it is all 1080P video and there is about 3 hours worth of footage added to my current project.  I imported the footage by just dragging and dropping the video folder contents into the "Project" tab within the program.
An example of the slow performance I get is this.  I added a Title card to start before the video.  When I hit play to see how it looks, the preview screen shows nothing, but you can see the time scrolling, then the video suddenly starts, but the video is really choppy.  I also had a heck of a time just adding that title card, as when I did it the program crashed once and locked up a couple of times.  Any ideas how I can fix this?  What other information would you need to help me further troubleshoot the problem?
My system is has an i7-720 with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GTX260M with the latest driver from NVIDIA.
    TIA guys!

One - your project must match your video... if you have a red line over the timeline immediately after importing the video, your project is wrong
Read Bill Hunt on a file type as WRAPPER http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037
    What is a CODEC... a Primer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/546811
What CODEC is INSIDE that file? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

If you have a red line over the timeline after importing a video and before adding any effects... your project is wrong for your video... read above about codecs
Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project
Two - how many hard drives do you have, and how is your project configured?
My 3 hard drives to edit AVCHD are configured as...
    1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
2 - 320Gig data for Win7 paging swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folder and files
3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files (*)
(*) for 4 drives, drive 3 all source files & drive 4 all output files
