Sudden Surge of Unsolicited Calls

First and foremost, I've been on the Do Not Call Registry since I got my phone number.  Yes, I already verified that the number is still there.
Which brings me to my actual issue:
Over the past few weeks / months we've had a sudden surge of unsolicited sales calls.  I just logged into my Verizon account to add the originating numbers to Calling Features \ Incoming Call Block however it maxes out at 10 numbers!  I called and spoke with a Verizon rep who said there is no way around this 10 number limitation.  He also advised that toll free numbers (800, 877, 888, etc) cannot be blocked.
Does anyone know a work-around for this 10 number limitation, inability to block toll-free numbers or better yet an explanation as to why there has been this surge of calls?
Thanks for your time & help!

In addition you should look at using the following privacy services that verizon provides.
Using Calling Features
Privacy and Security
Anonymous Call Block
Call Block
Call Intercept
Call Trace
Do Not Disturb
Selective Call Blocking
SHORT of that though, if you want to block "literally" everything, you should invest in a caller ID manager.  privacycorp has one such device.  I am sure there are others.

I am suddenly unable to receive calls on my iPhone 4S.
I have spent 2 hour-long sessions with technical support and although they were very nice, it is still not fixed.
When I try to call the phone from a land line, it doesn't ring AND it doesn't recognize that a call is coming in (no missed call) BUT if I leave a message, it records it.
Is it possible that the age of the phone will affect its ability to receive calls?
    HELP!

        MarketingMary,
I am truly sorry to hear that your are unable to receive calls on your device. Thank you tbo27 for providing great troubleshooting steps. Making sure call forwarding is not active by dial *73 is great. Have you already reset network settings also? http://vz.to/RTz70g Are you able to make calls fine? Make sure Do not Disturb is not active. Settings>Do Not Disturb

  • What's up with these unwanted, unsolicited calls?

Beginning yesterday morning, I've gotten four calls from area codes within California.  I do not recognize the numbers, and I have no contacts in these areas.

All my phone numbers have been on the DNC registry since 2007; I have current confirmations.
It is apparent to me that Verizon has no interest in dealing with this problem; I am still NOT convinced that my personal information was not leaked or otherwise compromised by Verizon.  Your assurance that you do not release personal information to third parties is of little comfort to me; Verizon, like any other organization, has in its employ dishonest and/or incompetent people.

I know unwanted calls be a pain in the neck CSwa! I recommend adding your number to the Do Not Call list and taking advantage of our free call and message blocking feature.
Please be assured we do not release any of our valued customers' personal information to third parties. I have included a helpful link below for your reference.

I'm having an unusual problem with my iphone 4S. When I'm making a call, it suddenly sounds like my call has been invaded by aliens! Why is it doing this? I'm also having problems sending texts. Sometimes it sends sometimes it doesn't. What is going on? Can it be fixed? I'm really not liking this new phone!!!!

Could be an issue with your Carrier and/or location...
    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart..  Reset..  Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Try a Reset...
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release the buttons...

  • Why am I suddenly getting dropped phone calls

I've had my iPhone 4 since June of 2010 and have been completely happy with it.  Then suddenly last week I started experiencing dropped calls--especially dropped long distance calls.  I make the call, we'll be chatting for 10 minutes or so, then suddenly the person I called can't hear me anymore.  I can hear them, but they can't hear me.  Within a matter of 30 seconds the line goes dead.  If I try to phone back, I can hear them when they answer their phone, but they can't hear me at all.  It's maddening.  I don't know if it's a problem with my phone, with AT&T or both.
    Anyone with a clue?
    Debby J

Go to setting and reset networks setting. If that doesn't work call your carrier to reset setting. Last thing you can change your sim card. After that go to Apple and they have a special software to check your drop calls on your phone. If it hardware they will replace your iPhone.

  • BT Infinity suddenly unusable - equipment OK, call...

Our BT Infinity broadband connection has been super-fast and faultless since the day we got it last September... until yesterday morning when our connection dropped to about 0-5% of its previous speed and has been stop-start since.  We can only get onto the front page of a website and then everything stalls for 10 minutes and so on.  We've called the BT call centre twice, both times going through the usual resetting of router, Hub, checking our settings, checking their settings, etc. etc. We established both times there was nothing wrong with our computers (all of our wireless devices - one Dell desktop, one Dell laptop (both running Vista), an iPhone and a Blackberry had the same problem), nor the BT equipment (router and one of the newer black Home Hubs), nor the connection itself, but the problem still persists.  Both times the BT call centre said they would 'monitor' our internet connection from their end and get back to us but I'm not holding out much hope of them solving the problem. I know that the next time I call them we will go through exactly the same checks and then they will 'monitor' it again!!  Has anyone had a similar experience?  Is there anything we could try ourselves?  Can we escalate the problem to an engineer who might actually physically check something somewhere?!

I am having the same issue! I am awake most of the night as cant sleep so, always on the internet at silly hours and on Monday at around 2am, broadband dropped. after an hour it connected back, but since then hardly any pages load, i can not sign in to msn, if you try and download something it says it will take 5mins and then jump to say it will take 30mins and then it fails and stops. I cant do a speed test as the page just does not load at all. i am currently using the wireless from my phone to connect to here, just so i can send this message and hopefully get some help!! no fault seems to be listed in my area. i have had no complaints about BT until now, i am not very happy at all, i cant seem to do anything, xbox and PS3 will not connect to internet either. so either my hub or openreach modem has suddenly failed or there is an issue in my area. All lights are fully blue on the hub aswel.

  • Sudden surge of 'gc buffer busy release/acquire' waits on index in 11gR2 leads to timeouts

    Hello,
We experienced a small applicative crash on Tuesday afternoon, when all of a sudden
a huge soaring of gc buffer busy release & acquire-related waits led to timeouts, for
about 10 to 15 minutes, in a RAC 11gR2 two-instance database. Drawing AWR and ASH
reports over the period of this issue shows that it happened on blocks belonging to 3
indexes of the same table (this table incurs an average of 12,000 inserts per hour, coming
from a trigger set up against its parent table).
My question: we never experienced this issue before for months, I'm trying to understand
why these inserts suddenly caused such concurrency in the global cache (and why it
does not happen on a regular basis or all the while...), but I don't know where to look for.
I don't think there was any more activity than usually at the time the timeouts occurred. It
could never happen again, but if it is bound to, I'd like to know it and prevent it, if possible...
Thanks a lot in advance for any suggestion !
    Regards,
    Seb

    Hi Brian,
    Thanks for your reply.
As the PK index of this table is involved in this inter-instance contention, d'you think that setting
a high cache for the sequence used to populate the PK column would alleviate this process of
inserting ? (I could set this CACHE to at least the avg amount of entries per block in this index,
so that when inserting the instances at leat wouldn't have to exchange the index blocks being
    updated...)
Here is an excerpt of the ASH report (I'm talking about the first index listed below, txts2_pk):
    Object ID
    % Activity
    Event
    % Event
    Object Name (Type)
    Tablespace
    76750
    55.53
    gc buffer busy release
    55.53
    ABCD.TXTS2_PK (INDEX)
    ABCD_DI1
    76558
    16.21
    gc buffer busy acquire
    15.51
    ABCD.TXTS_NI3 (INDEX)
    ABCD_DI1
    76556
    4.40
    gc buffer busy release
    4.40
    ABCD.TXTS_NI (INDEX)
    ABCD_DI1
Or do I stand on the wrong track - as far as this 'gc buffer busy' issue is concerned ?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Seb

  • Suddenly can't make calls to my skype to go number...

I have been using my android to call my skype to go numbers for a few months now. On occasions I cannot make calls but after a few trys it goes through. But I have been trying today and there has been no luck. Any solutions? I still have minutes left in my subscription and I have sufficient skype credits in my account. Thanks in advance.

    HI,
I have a skype-to-go number. And though I can receive calls on it, I can't make any calls with it, which was the whole point of getting it in the firs place.  Does anybody know how to resolve this and what could be causing it.
Few changes that happened recently, that maybe affect this
    - staying at hotel, so got 'public network' checked for the internet.
    - moved to Abu dhabi
     Any help appreciated.
    Thank you
If you are trying to call telephones, you still need to have Skype Credit on your account or pay for a subscription.  Calls to telephones from Skype are not free, even if you have a Skype To Go number.
Skype To Go is an alternative for making calls when you are not able to use the Skype program or app to log into your computer.  By itself, you do not gain any privileges for calling telephones.  That's where the Skype Credit or a subscription come into play, covering those charges.

  • SUDDEN SURGE IN BROADBAND USEAGE ACCORDING TO BT

My average usage is approx 9GB per month but all of a sudden BT reckonS I have used 20GB and 1GB in the last 2 days. The problem is I am doing nothing different this month, have not downloaded anything etc. Does anybody know what may cause this? Also, how can I find out what I have downloaded which = 20GB or indeed how I can challenge what BT reckons I have used.

  • Is there a way to block unsolicited calls and messages in iPhone5?

Hello to all. Guess my title to this post is enough for me to get an answer from learned members of this august forum! Thanks inadvance!

Thanks Rojmer for joining this thread. Your answer seems to be an attractive solution to the problem I am facing but I am a novice in these matters and would love some clarifications:
    Rojmer wrote:
Every time I get one of these calls I immediately add the number to one of the contacts in my contacts app under the name Telemarketing 1, Telemarketing 2, etc.  I have about eight numbers in each contact item.
I was just about to ask you how you could squeeze in 8 numbers in each contact, but proceeded to check it out myself and learnt that you can put in more than even 10 numbers under each contact! I guess that I can put in many more numbers too!
My next question is related to how you could create a silent ringtone?
[Then I created a silent ringtone with one of the ringtone creators in the AppStore (iTunes also sell them) and assigned the silent ringtone to those contacts items. ]
Could you walk me through this process? FYI, I have found this free app and have downloaded it onto my iMac:
How can I create a 'silent' audio file to drop it into the required space provided?

  • `my bookmarks are suddenly in dropdown menu called "bookmarks bar"

The bookmarks in my bookmarks bar have disappeared from the bar - they are now in a dropdown menu on the bookmarks bar called (of course) "bookmarks bar".  How do I get rid of this dropdown menu and return the bookmarks to their original positions along the bar?
I don't know how this happened - the kids were using the computer!

    Try this...
Click the Bookmarks icon top left in the Safari toolbar then select Bookmarks Bar.
Click anywhere on the right then press Command + C on your keyboard (copy)
Now select Bookmarks Menu. Click anywhere on the right and press Command + V to paste.

  • IPhone 4 suddenly can't receive calls?

My wife tried to call me numerous tunes at work today and she said she heard " the customer is unavailable at the moment" each time. So I just tried twice to call the phone from home and I'm getting the same thing, it was working fine yesterday?
    I'm with bell Canada.

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
