Suddenly all my non-system apps disappear

After I install some apps , they do not appear in the desktop. So I restart my iPhone. Now all the non-system disappear although they are 'open' in App Store. System is iOS 7.0.4, iPhone 5s

Paulcb,
Sorry about the delay getting back to you.  I stepped out.
But right before I did, I managed to install a free app, which prompted me for my Apple ID, and after that all my non-Apple apps are running fine, again.
Thanks for that helpful tip!
Jim
P.S.  I also think I have figured out WHY the problem arose in the first place.  And WHY when I first tried your suggestion (to install a free app - and this prompt the "re-authentication" of my Apple ID) it didn't work.
I think it is explained by the fact that there momentarily wasn't a valid network link in place, and so the phone couldn't access the iTunes site and authenticate my ID.
And I think the problem with the network link stemmed for the strange problem I saw with my Wi-Fi state.   Recall that I saw the STRANGE status (in the settings app) for Wi-Fi of :  "No WiFi".  I have NEVER seen that status before.  It doesn't mean "Not connected".  It means iOS doesn't even think the Marvell WiFi device exists.  Hmm.
Anyway, the workaround you suggested works fine.  Thanks.

  • Non-factory Apps Disappearing Randomly After Upgrade to iOS 5.1

Hi all, I've had my iPad 2 for about 9 months.  Since upgrading to iOS 5.1, on two separate occasions, I've had all but the factory apps disappear from my iPad.  This happened randomly during the day, not during or immediately following a sync.  My most recent sync for my iPad was on 3/14, 6 days ago.  I had been using my iPad throughout the day, then unlocked it this evening and everything is gone except the factory apps, i.e. FaceTime, Messages, Reminders, etc.  All my media is still there, and all my settings are unchanged (email accounts still working fine, movies still there in the Videos app), but all downloaded apps are gone.  No games, none of my work apps, nothing.  This is the second time this has happened since I upgraded to iOS 5.1 about 2 weeks ago.  First time was the day after.  Last time I did a full wipe and restore, hoping it was a one time glitch.  I've done some searching, and the only other instances of people's apps disappearing that I've been able to find were related to syncing.  I have the latest iTunes, all software is patched and up to date.  I have syncing via WiFi disabled, as well, it only syncs via cable plugged into my home PC.
Hoping someone else has seen this or has some idea.
(My battery life is significantly reduced after the iOS upgrade as well, with no changes to settings or new apps.  I get a day or two of light use before I'm down to 10%.  I was at 30% in the morning when I put it in my bag, and it was dead when I took it out later that afternoon.  I used to get a good week between charges.)

If it's a first gen iPad, which I assume that it is if you've updated to iOS 5.1.1 as other models update to iOS 6+, then it doesn't have a camera on it and therefore doesn't have Camera or FaceTime apps.

  • OSX Yosemite suddenly all Apple built in apps get "Quit Unexpectedly"

Today suddenly all my apple apps (mail, messages, calendar, etc all produce a message like "XXXX quit unexpectedly" where XXXX is the app name). The error log contains "Exception Type: EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL)". Options OK and Reopen simply return the same screen.  Apps NOT in built-in OS X apps work fine.  Well, Safari works but it's the only one.  When I try to examine Preferences I get Preferences Error "Could not load internet accounts preferences page".
I've tried rebooting, restarting in safe mode, same results.  It's like a catastrophic failure somewhere.  My Time Machine backup from several days ago produces the same results.  I ran the Disk Utility, checked permissions, all OK.
iMac is mid- 2011 27" running Yosemite 10.10.  Worked perfectly until 5pm today 11/13.
    Any ideas?

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • TS1702 all non-Apple apps fail to launch on my iPad

Suddenly all the non-Apple apps will not launch on my iPad (examples: Words with Friends; games; Trip Advisor; magazines, newspapers etc).  Tapping on icon causes the screen to darken for a second, like it is about to launch, and then it crashes back to the home screen.  Apple apps work fine.
All apps and operating system are up to date.  I have hard re-started the iPad twice.

Try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.

  • PLEASE HELP! SYSTEM APPS MISSING

Please someone help me! My iPhone 4s on 6.1 is missing all it's system apps, my spotlight search is turnned off so I can't search for the apps and whenever I attempt to restore the phone I get an error and I cannot restore from IPSW file or from a previous backed up point of my phone.

The apps that are native to the phone can't be deleted.  They are either in a folder or on another page/screen. The reset home screen layout should put them back where you can see them

If you haven't already, try restoring your iPhone as a new device, not from a backup, and with only the apps Apple includes. Then see if the problems persist. It's possible that a corrupted file on the iPhone is causing the problems, and that could perhaps be coming back onto the iPhone if you're restoring using a backup. Problems with an app could also be causing problems. If the problems persist after restoring the iPhone as "new", then you almost certainly have a defective iPhone and will need to contact Apple for servicing.
If the problems go away after restoring the iPhone as "new", then you can start putting your other apps back on and see if the problems reappear; if they do, you probably have a badly-coded app.

  • Why does my connection to Apple store constantly fail even though I have good internet connectivity to all non-apple apps?

    Hi.
All of a sudden my IOS devices are having difficulty accessing all of my Apple-store controlled apps and purchases when using my home network, even though it is a really fast network and my other devices work perfectly. Spotify, YouTube and Netflix and all apps that don't rely on Apple purchases are working perfectly on my iPad and ipod, and I have fast internet speed and perfect connectivity on all my other devices.
But when I go to Newsstand or iTunes Store for example I get the message 'can't connect to Apple server' or 'you are not connected to wifi' even though all non-Apple apps are connecting perfectly on the same device. I have tried all the usual reboot, reset solutions and nothing seems to resolve this. My software is up to date. My iPod and iPad are working perfectly when I use another network. My home network is working perfectly for everything else.
    Any ideas?

Sorry for bad English and typos, I wrote it quickly.

Working alternating with iPhoto and FCE tgrying to import pictures from iPhoto into FCE suddenly all my 22300 pictures disappeared leaving empty frames. Does somebody know where the pictures could have gone and how can I get them back into iPhoto? Lothar

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Some apps disappeared suddenly

    Hi,
At least 20 apps disappeared suddenly from my iPad (some were even factory preinstalled). At first they appeared faded and inaccessible. So I powered off the device and when I turned it back on all those apps had disappeared. So I went on AppStore, found them and tried to reinstall them. But then I got this message about not having enough available storage to download the apps. But what I don't understand is that those apps were already on my device for a long time and I downloaded nothing new before they disappeared.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

The preinstalled apps cannot be deleted or installed again. They are part of the iOS. Try a reset and see if that makes the apps reappear.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • How can I get "all my files" to recognize files in a non system drive?

I use a Mac Pro with four internal drives, OSX 9.2. My system drive is an SSD so I keep user files on another drive in an adjacent bay.
Files in my non-system disc are not displayed in the "all my files" finder view. If I copy a file from the system disc to my user disc, the copy is not recognized, and when I trash the original, of course, there is no reference to either. If I search, spotlight finds it. This behavior seems to apply to all files and is regardless of anything selected in the sidebar before "all my files". I have not marked any files, folders or drives as private. I presume I must have a set a pref wrong. I would really appreciate any advice.
    Thank you.

To change the program that .indd files default to when opened in OSX, right click on the .indd file > Open With > Other.
Then navigate to the version of InDesign that you want to open them with (I have CS6 installed but its the same for CS5). Make sure you have "Always Open With" selected.

  • All Non-Apple Apps Keep Crashing

I updated the firmware on my friend's iPhone 3Gs from 4.1 to 4.3.3 using my computer. This is not the computer that my friend used to sync the iPhone and it was the first time when the iPhone was synced to my computer. I noticed now that all non-Apple apps crash when I try to start them. How could I fix this problem? Should I tell my friend to sync the 3Gs on the computer where it was synced before? Thanks.

    Thanks. It worked, indeed!

  • All Transactions Report to Non-System Admin

Is it possible to broadcast a report of all transactions to a non-system admin?
Background: Project Manager who is not a System/Travel admin,  would like monthly reports of all expense reports and expenses from system. Since reporting is based on role assignment is this possible? I have tried using Broadcast but user still only sees data for his direct reports. thnka you in advance for your help!

    Hi Juan,
this should be handled very careful as you can get in trouble if you expose data to people that are not authorized to see it. So think twice before you do that.
what is that project manager supposed to see? If he's allowed to see any detail, you might create a role that has no access restrictions. In this case, the report will show all expense reports. This way there is clear transparency in the system about authorizations
Broadcasting works as well. In broadcasting you should deselect the "user specific" flag. In this case, the report runs with the authorizations of the broadcast creator (the system admin). It is probably useful to create a specific report for that and assign it to a work center view the system admin has assigned. However this way the system admin provides information to people that are not authorized by their role. So their needs to be another agreement in the organization to be on the safe side.

    Steffen
