Suddenly being told unauthorized to play songs

Hi. I bought a song from the iTunes store this morning, and when I attempted to sync iTunes to my iPod a message was thrown up telling me my Mac is not authorized to play 134 items in my library. (I was asked to verify my account information, which had not changed, and was then told I had successfully authorised 1 computer of my allowed 5, which seemed odd.)
The list includes songs and audio books I've bought from the iTunes store, and others I've ripped from my CD collection. I've had no problems like this before.
I've just restored my iPod, but this hasn't made any difference. My library (apart from the aforementioned 134 items) is being loaded to it again as I type.

Some of my iTunes store purchased songs will play and
some won't. It keeps asking me to authorize my
computer - I comply , it tells me that it was a
successful authorization, but when I attempt to play
the song, it starts over with the "not authorized"
message. I've fallen into a loop and can't get out.
I e-mailed iTunes support and they suggested
downloading iTunes 7.0.1 which I already have. They
also suggested getting the newest Quicktime download.
I re-installed both, but nothing has changed.
I had a similar problem for awhile. Mine turned out to be a problem in Keychain Access. I had a bunch of duplictes in the there along with some "old" identities that I didn't use. For example, I changed my itunes email address and then iTunes started throwing up.
Here is the basic fix: Go to the utilities folder and click on "Keychain Access". On the menu bar choose "Keychain Access .. Keychain First Aid". After you enter your passward click on "verify" and it will examine your keychain and list any errors. Click the "repair" button to repair. While your at it, clean out any duplicates you have in the keychain list. I cleaned up mine and life has been good.

    My husband has some songs that he purchased from iTunes that I added to my library. When I try to sync iTunes tells me that it is unable to sync those songs because I am not authorized.
    A husband and wife syncing to the same computer can't share songs downloaded from iTunes? Is that possible?
    If so that's pretty silly. Is there anyway to fix that?

    Play one of the songs on your computer or choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes; you should then be able to transfer the songs to the iPod after providing your iTunes store account details.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings      
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.             
    If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

    Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

    I have just had the same problem and have spent a good hour trying to figure out where the Purchase Wish List Button has gone. I had an online CHAT with one of the nice Support Desk staff - who didn't know the answer and had to get clarification from her Supervisor.
    I couldn't believe it frankly when she told me that they had INTENTIONALLY removed that facility!! OMG! That's ridiculous.
    I have likened it to going to a Supermarket and doing a monthly shop - putting all the items on a conveyor belt and then having to pay for every one individually. It's absurd.
    I have written to the Feedback Desk and suggested strongly that they change this back asap or else they will lose me as a customer (not that seems much of a threat to a $multi billion company!) 
    I have also suggested that they take a leaf out of AMAZON's Book and have a proper Checkout facility where you can put individual items into a Basket and go to checkout - and once at checkout you can either purchase everything or remove some items by flagging them Save For Later. They remain in a sort of holding basket where you can quite simply have the option of putting them back into your Basket at a future date. Amazon also have a Wish List Facility which is separate to the Basket Checkout - so they are - it seems - far in advance of iTunes.
    Perhaps you could write to the iTunes Feedback Team and suggest the same ? It seems that the more they get requests for certain features the more they listen.
    I have advised them that I shall be buying my MP3 music files from Amazon if they don't improve the Checkout options. Suggesting that I buy 40+ songs individually is just plain ludicrous .... and I thought Apple were a leading technology ?!
    Please add your comments to the Feedback so we as Customers can get them to see sense ..... and if anybody else is reading this because they've experienced the same problem as we have ..... please put your comments on the Feedback too.
    I am refusing to purchase my 25songs and albums until they rectify it. Their loss more than mine.

    After buying songs and playing songs for some years now on my Mac, purchased with a prior and different APPLE ID, I'm getting the "Im not authorized to play" message all of sudden.     Sorry, but if you see the "connect to iTunes" screen on your phone, the only option is to restore, backing up the phone is not possible at this point, even importing the photos might not work anymore.

    There seems to be an occasional issue with downloads from the store. They prompt for authorization when they are in fact corrupt/incomplete in some fashion. Try deleting the problem tracks (do not hide from iTunes in the cloud), close iTunes and reopen, go to iTunes Store > Qucklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer. Select a few tracks to download then click the icon that appears at the top-right of the iTunes window.. Untick the box that reads Allow simultaneous downloads. Proceed with the rest of your eligible purchases.
    If you still have a problem use the Report a problem links in your account history to contact the iTunes Store support team.

    I bought the music on another iMac which has been sold. All my music was backed up onto an external drive. On another Mac (not my own), I was able to copy the library over into the right folder, etc and load the music in iTunes. However some 100 songs come up as "unauthorized" to play even though this computer IS Authorized AND everything else plays.
    Why is this music coming up as unauthorized???

    If you select one of the unauthorized songs and do Get Info (under the File menu, or Command-I, or the first item in the contextual menu), the Summary tab will show the account that purchased the song. It's probably not the account that you bought the other music with.

  • Suddenly,all my audio is not working.  I can play songs from itunes but app audio is gone. What can I do/

    I'm not sure what is happening.  Suddenly all the audio is missing! I dont have ringtone when I get a call, or for an alarm.  I can only play songes from itunes.  All the sounds from apps and games are gone too.  I have tried a restart, and i guess the next step is a reset.  What else can I do?

  • Suddenly purchased ringtones "can't play on this iphone"

    I've had some problems in the past few months with synching my ipod to my computer and being told that songs that I've purchased from itunes, and have been playing for months or years, are now "not authorized" to play on my ipod. Now the same thing is happening with my new iphone. I got this phone--my first iphone--on Sunday and bought, on the phone, four ringtones. They worked fine, even after synching to my computer/itunes library, for a couple days, and then yesterday I started getting the message that those ringtones "were not copied" because "they cannot be played on this iphone". Frustrating! I'm hoping someone here can help....(by the way, purchases apps do work.)

    Any restrictions set in Settings/General/Restrictions? If yes, try to disable them and test again.
    Can you play the songs in iTunes on your computer?
    Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again?

  • Nano won't play songs anymore - cover flow shuffle shows no artwork

    All of a sudden, my ipod nano 3g will no longer play songs via cover flow. The artwork is gone even though it is there in iTunes on my computer. If I click an album to play it, it briefly selects that album (with the missing artwork still) as if it is going to play it, but then it just goes back to the cover flow shuffle and never plays anything. I just had iTunes erase everything on it and resync, but that made no difference.
    I tried playing songs through the play list instead of the cover flow and still it just acts like it is going to play the song and then gives up and returns to the previous menu. So basically, I cannot play any songs on this nano, which is only a few months old. Help!? Thanks!

    Ok, I've fixed it. I read a few other posts about resetting it. I held the Select and Menu buttons down at the same time (this works better if you place the nano on a flat surface first) for several seconds. Then the Apple logo appears while the nano is being reset. After that, cover art work appears and more importantly the songs play. Whew. That was scary.
