Suddenly blocking a website that security is set to allow.

This evening Firefox suddenly started blocking breitbart.com and all of it's subsidiaries.
Under Tools, Options, Security - breitbart.com is set to "Allow".
If I uncheck the "Block reported Attack sites" box then I can access all of the Breitbart sites. Obviously this is not a desired solution.

The list of attack sites is updated regularly (daily?) from the same source used by Google Chrome; to my knowledge, Mozilla does not independently edit the list. Google's report is here:

  • I want to block a website that is harassing me please help

I want to block a website that is harassing me by popping up everytime I start firefox. I have already deleted cookies that I thought belonged to the website through firefox's browser but to no avail. This website creates its cookies as soon as I delete them. Then when I start/restart firefox browser the popup advertisement shows on my screen in a separate window all by itself. I cannot do anything to block this advertisement. How can I block this website? Here is the URL:
    http://c5.zedo.com//ads2/f/934185/3840/0/0/305006682/305006682/0/305/1573/zz-V2-Canada_1x1.html?a=s%3D1573%3Bg%3D27%3Bm%3D48%3Bw%3D8%3Bu%3DRGIOTiGt3SyyrNQNWTGbSVwk~070211%3Bi%3D0%3B;l=;p=
    Thanks very much in advance.

You can password protect your website but ONLY if you publish it to a MobileMe account.

  • Is there any way that I can block a website that has started appearing unprompted on my computer?

I have been attacked by some kind of adware. I keep having tabs pop up when I am not even at my computer. Is there a way to block specific sites?

Safe browsing requires vigilance, and this includes making sure you have programs installed on your computer to protect you online, and that they are regularly updated.
    Steps to take:
    <br /><br />
*Updating everything can be time-consuming, and if you're not sure what to do, use a program like Secunia's [https://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ Personal Software Inspector (PSI)] to help automate the process of updating all software on your computer.
*Make sure Windows Update is turned on and set to automatic.
*Always run antivirus software -- there are many free programs from vendors like Avast, AVG, TrendMicro, etc.
*Make sure your Windows firewall is on (if you are not using a replacement firewall, if so, keep that one up to date).
*Make sure your browsers are the latest versions.
Once you get everything up-to-date, then install a couple of helpful add-ons to your new Firefox installation:
    <br /><br />
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ Adblock Plus] will help block unwanted advertisements.
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/ NoScript] will only turn on scripting (automated web-page actions) for websites that you trust.
After you've updated everything and have your new add-ons installed, you'll be safer on the web and should not be bombarded by adverts.

  • How do I block a website that sends me malware?

This pops up "http://weeklywinner.s3.amazonaws.com/winner.html"... it will not let me close it, it messed up my desktop and I can't recover it, it crashed my system several times today and it installed malware.
I have scanned, cleaned and done everything that I know how to do to protect my system. Yet, all of that, and this popped up again.
I want to block it, but can't figure out how. HELP!

  • I cannot remove Avast from Safari.  It is blocking a website that I need for remote access to my office.  I have dragged Avast to the trash and have restarted my computer.  It is no longer installed as an app on my Mac.  Does anyone know what to do?

How do I remove Avast from Safari?

"Avast" is perhaps the worst of the whole wretched lot of commercial "security" products for the Mac. Not only does it fail to protect you from any real danger, it throws false warnings, destabilizes and slows down the computer, and sometimes or always corrupts the network settings and the permissions of files in your home folder. Removing it may not repair all the damage.
Back up all data, then remove "Avast" according to the developer's instructions. Restart.
If you tried to remove Avast by dragging an application to the Trash, you'll have to reinstall it and then follow the instructions linked above.

    Cheers Alex

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.

  • Have two websites that I can access just fine and 80% or so of links inside but the other 20% - no deal. first time it has ever happened. Some kind of setting ?

I have been doing online business for four years and this is the first time that this has happened. I have satellite internet through Dish Network. Have had hem here twice and their techs were in touch with the home office big shots for an hour. They say it is not their service. I had an online tech help me check out my computer and he worked 1.5 hours and couldn't fix it. The web sites with the problems say it is not them. What kind of setting inside of my computer or Fire Fox might be wrong. I updated the Java script in the last couple of days. I need one of these sites to work correctly very badly.
    Any Suggestions.

Is this with normal website or are these websites opened via a secure connection?
If content is missing or otherwise not working when a secure https connection is used then check if there is a shield icon to the left of the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location bar indicating that content is blocked.

You can try basic steps like these in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

a romanian website joburi.eu suddenly opens about 30 times at random times when I am doing a websearch, not every time and when searching different websites not any partifcular one. I would like to block this website so that it does not open

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

  • How do I block websites that I specify?

In IE it's quite easy to block specific websites -- just enter website URLs on a "forbid" list and it's done. Can't figure out how to do that (easily) in Firefox.

there are two simple ways for me to block specific websites.
    '''first, editing the host file
    * Open my computer, and browse the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc In the etc folder
    look for the file HOSTS.
    * Open this file hosts with notepad.
    * Go to the bottom of the file and create. You can block websites by following the format:
    127.0.0.1www.sitesyouwanttoblock.com
    * Save the file and then the websites you added are blocked now.
It’s easy to block certain websites by using editing hosts file way. If you want to block many websites even keywords, professional porn filter is recommended.
    '''second, use a website blocker'''
    * Download a professional [http://www.remotespy.co/internet-filter.html Aobo website Filter].
    * Install the software to the computer.
    * Setting up the blacklist and a “white” list provided by Aobo porn filter. Besides the nasty,
porn-related words prefilled in the blacklist, you can also customize it to include anything
that you want to block. The “white” list is reserved for safe words and Web sites.
    * Save the settings and run the software.
The software works in stealth mode that your kids will have no idea that they’re being blocked.

Is there anyone who could help me?
    Thanks

    very strange,
    1. check time and date on your computer
    2. reset network configuration, make sure there are no proxy servers and you get DNS from your router not manual
    3. Reset certificates database
    Go to Terminal (Applications>Utilities)
    sudo rm /var/db/crls/*cache.db
(you will be prompted for your password)
    and reboot the computer
    post back

If you get an error that says can't backup, try moving the existing backup file to a safe location and thry again. again. You can find the location of the backup file here:

Try to rename the cert8.db file in the Firefox profile folder to cert8.db.old or delete the cert8.db file to remove intermediate certificates that Firefox has stored.
If that helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed cert8.db.old file.
Otherwise you can rename (or copy) the cert8.db.old file to cert8.db to restore the previous intermediate certificates.
Firefox will automatically store intermediate certificates when you visit websites that send such a certificate.
If that didn't help then remove or rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) as well.
