Suddenly can't connect mac mini to internet without signing in

I suddenly have to go to system preferences everytime I want to get online with my mac mini. Other devices are working just fine. This is the main computer that the router is connected to. Anyone have a fix for this?

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions.
2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
7. Reinstall OS X.

hallo, how can i connect Mac mini to internet via my Windows Phone?

You are going to have to buy an external modem.  They make ones that plug into the USB.  Apple does not make one so you will have to buy a 3rd party modem.  I would read the reviews before making the purchase to make sure you buy one that someone has tested with a mac.

Hi, you'd have to setup Screen Sharing on the Mini first it's like Remote Desktop on PCs.

  • Connecting Mac mini to internet through Xfinity router

This one took me a couple weeks to figure out, and I've seen a couple of similar posts in the forums, so I decided to post my findings here in the hope that it will help someone else.
Short version of the problem: I have a Mac mini (mid-2010 server version) that would connect to the Technicolor TC8305C WiFi router that was supplied to me by Comcast, but it would not connect "through" to the internet.
Details: The Mac mini connected automatically to the Wi-Fi (via DHCP) of the router, but nothing would connect "through" to the internet -- not Chrome, not Safari, not Mail, not the App Store, nothing. This was baffling because every other device in the house (3 laptops, 2 iPhones, and an Apple TV) all connected just fine. I checked all of the settings in the Network pane of System Preferences, comparing the Mac mini's against each of the laptops; all of the settings were the same (default, "out-of-the-box" settings). I thought maybe the problem was something at the OS level because the Mac mini was running Snow Leopard server and the laptops were not (two were running Mavericks, and one was running Leopard).
Here's where it gets weird... I connected the Mac mini to the router using an ethernet cable and everything worked normally for the wired network device. I was able to use the App Store to update the OS on the Mac mini to Mavericks. However, after I disconnected the ethernet cable, the problem came back and the Wi-Fi would connect to the router but not to the internet.
I double-checked that any "server" software on the Mac mini was turned off -- e.g., that it was not trying to serve as its own DHCP server. As I suspected, none of these services were on, so that wasn't it either.
In that same vein, I tried setting a static IP for the Mac mini in the router's control interface. Again: no luck.
Lastly, I got this weird idea that the only remaining difference that I hadn't tried was the pre-configured IP address prefix octets.
Solution: I reconfigured the router to use 192.168.x.x (like my previous router did) as the network prefix instead of the 10.0.x.x prefix that it uses by default. After I made that change in the router, everything fell into place and the problem went away. I never did figure out the reason this change was significant, but as I said -- it was the only thing that worked.

    Interesting, thanks for the report/tip!

How can i connect ipad mini wifi+celluar to 2g internet plan

    Hello Sir!
After weeks of testing, i found the solution of my question. It´s quiet simply!!
1º iPhone (3G Internet acess) connected to Mac mini by USB or BlueTooth or WiFi.
2ª in Mac mini must be activated in "Preferencias", "Compartir", the option "Compartir Internet",
"Compartir Conexión desde":   iPhone USB  or  Bluetooth PAN
         "Con otros Ordenadores vía":  Ethernet
3º Ethernet cable must be connected from Mac mini to Time Capsule !!
4º In Time Capsule "Internet":  connect by:  DHCP
                                 "Network": bridged
    Nothing more!!!  Sooooo simply!!
After this, Windows XP SP3 connect without problem over TC´s WiFi or Ethernet to the Internet!
Also other Devices like IPad, or other iPhone, etc.
Of course it can be a created a WiFi connection (PPP) between the iPhone and the Mac
    and it´s working to.
But ALWAYS, by changing the connection mode, must be changed the Thethering mode.
    In- and Out-Going!
Thank you for your help, no I made me a "small" TC expert...lol

  • How can I install Mac Mini drivers for Windows 7 32-bit if I didn't install Windows 7 using bootcamp?

Hello. I have a mac-mini (mid 2010) and with bootcamp, was successfully running XP.
I then decided to upgraded to Windows 7 had lots of trouble installing it on my existing bootcamp partition.
I finally was able to install Windows 7, by just booting off the CD and letting it install that way.
But reading more on it, I think I was supposed to use Bootcamp to do it for me...
I had thought the Bootcamp Assistant was for only fresh installs of a Windows O.S. where no partitiion existed previously.
I had a partition so thought Bootcamp wasn't required for my needs.
But now, inside Windows 7, I have 0 drivers installed. I have an AirPort Express, so on the Mac side, I downloaded
and installed the Windows version of AirPort Utility and copied it to my USB stick. Then
I exported my settings to a text file on a USB Stick, then on Windows was able to successfully install AirPort Utility and import the settings.
But it still doesn't find my network. I am pretty sure I'm broadcasting my SSID...
So I need to know the following:
    1) How to know I'm broadcasting my SSID - where do I find this in settings?
    2) How I can install my mac-mini drivers on Windows 7 so I can use my existing wireless network, now that I've gone through the installation without using Bootcamp?
    3) Do I need to set up network adapters and all that stuff in Windows 7 first? If so, how and what drivers do I need?
One other thing I tried was downloading Bootccamp 4.x and installing that on Windows 7 to see if it gives me the drivers that were supposed to be written to my USB stick if I had installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp in the first place... However I think the message it said was that it couldn't install as it was the wrong version. So I'm still stuck without drivers and therefore no internet.
And that is my main task - getting the Internet up and running in Windows 7.
    Other Info:
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8 with 2 GB of memory.
I installed the 32-bit version of Windows 7 and I don't know what version of Bootcamp I'm running...
I can tell you that BootCamp Assistant is v3.0.4, but don't know if that means Bootcamp is also 3.0.4.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.

I tried something that worked for me...
Knowing that after my install of Windows 7 wasn't the correct method (didn't go through bootcamp), and the BootCamp 4.x package wouldn't install under windows 7, I tried reinstalling Bootcamp 4.x in Windows 7 to see what the exact message was it gave me. The message said it couldn't install because of a 32-bit O.S. vs a 64-bit version of the package.
So that got me thinging - my XP version was 32-bit, and so is my Windows 7 installation. So I tried installing the bootcamp that came with my Mac OS X installation CD. This is bootcamp version 3.1.
Not only did it install, but it practically took care of everything driver-wise for me. I was then able to see my wireless network, enter my password and I was connected. The only thing else I had to do to get on the Internet was bring IE8 online (guess it ships offline by default). Firewall and Antivirus are now installed, just a few more things to go.
That's one thing that's just not clear that I'll be sure to note for next time... The Bootcamp packages you download are actually driver packages for Windows. That is where the Windows drivers exists that are necessary to make your Windows 7 PC work on a bootcamp partition!
I didn't need the AirPoirt Utility at all (at least, I never went into it).
Thanks VikingOSX for your post. I will not need to follow the steps you provided, but they may help someone else as all of these bootcamp issues I've been reading seem to be very unique per installation.
    Hopefully my solution helps others.

  • Suddenly can't connect to windows server

I suddenly can't connect to the windows server. The username and password is correct, but it says "Connection Failed: Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the name and password or contact the server's administrator." It pings the server as well. My internet and email works fine. The IT guys can't figure it out either, but they are not mac gurus. Connecting via smb comes back with "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct" before I even enter login information, if that is helpful information. I also tried connecting through the server alias under the network and its the connetion failed as going through Connnect to Server and entering it as AFP://ipaddress.
Can it be from the 10.4.11 update? It was fine before the update I believe - but I can't recall for sure. I'm a lone mac user in a very pc company, so any mac expert advice would be helpful.
Is just strange since I have no problems connecting to our work email via GroupWise.

Connecting via smb comes back with "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct" before I even enter login information, if that is helpful information.
Yes for any previous connection, Macs will send what's in Keychain Access, even if it's wrong, before you get asked... delete that reference in Keychain Access.

  • Connect mac mini to imac

    Hi,
I was wondering if I can connect an old mac mini to an imac so I can use the mac mini as an aditional hard drive to store all my music and pictures.
If so, how do I do it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Oscar

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If the Mac mini and iMac have got FireWire or Thunderbolt (probably, FireWire 800), just buy a FireWire cable and start the Mac mini holding the T key while your Mac is starting. Doing this, your Mac mini's hard drive will show up as an external drive in the iMac, so you can store data in it. You may want to format the hard drive first.
This isn't the best way. If you aren't going to use the Mac mini, you can take the hard disk out of it, buy an enclosure, install the hard drive in it and connect it to your iMac. Then, format the hard drive > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Finally, open Finder and you will see the hard drive in the Finder sidebar, under "Devices"

  • Can't connect wirelessly to the Internet

    Hi all,
hope someone can help me with this.
I'm running OSX 10.3.9, have an ADSL Nation X-Modem and AirPort Express.
My wireless network is up and running, I have strong signal and AirTunes can connect and play fine wirelessly.
However, when I try to open Safari and connect to the Internet, it doesn't connect ("Can't find Server.")
When I plug the X-Modem direct into the Mac with the Ethernet cable, I can connect to the internet fine, so the modem and cable don't seem to be the problem. I've tried running throgh the AirPort Express SetUp Assistant and restarted AirPort and rebooted everything many times. In Network Preferences, it says it's happily connected, has IP address etc, but I still can't connect wirelessly to the Internet?
    Any help greatly appreciated!
    thanks
    Nat

    OK, here it is again
First you plug the Ethernet cable from your Internet modem into the AE. Then plug it in. The light will go amber. Run the Airport Setup Assistant. Create a new wireless network. Call it what you want. Enter the information about your modem, in the fields just like you do for your Ethernet connection on your PC or Mac. This means DHCP or static IP and subnet..... most if you use DHCP will be filled in for you. Now that you have saved the info and the AE has restarted, look for the network that you named in the available networks. If you have set it up to dish out IP addresses, it will give you one. If you have started out with WEP or WPA the connection process is much more difficult at first.
I leave it wide open until I can connect to it and then I create MAC access lists. I'll leave all the security stuff to you after you get it working basically.
Run Airport Admin Utility. It will scan the area for AEs and AEBSs and you can select yours from the list. Click on configure. Here is where you set all the details up on how you want it to work. Here you can configure the details, place your securities etc. Notice that you are accessing it wireless and then you can go through the various Tabs to configure how you want it to operate.
There is an Internet tab. This will show you how it is configured. It should look the same as your NIC parameters did when you hooked straight to the modem. There are also many more tabs that allow you to configure each area, like do you want it to be the gateway of your network, dish out IP addresses etc. My advice is to let it do that if more than one machine will connect and you don't require defined addresses to get to say a server.
The two important areas are the Internet and the LAN area. These tell it how to interact with your modem, and the machines trying to connect to it. If the AE doesn't see the modem or can't interact with it, one of the parameters is wrong. Same goes for the LAN side of things.

  • TS1398 have been connected to my wireless network using a netgear sky broadband router succesfully for a few weeks, suddenly can't connect, network is showing but no signal - all other wireless gadgets are connected just fine - including iphone - any idea

my ipad 4 has been connected to my wireless network using a netgear sky broadband router succesfully for a few weeks, suddenly can't connect, network is showing but no signal - all other wireless gadgets are connected just fine - including iphone - any ideas?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

If you have ethernet still on your MBP plug it in by ethernet and tell me if that works.
Tell me how the Airport is setup.. what broadband modem and router you have.
What OS on the laptop? Yosemite I guess.. since it is the most troublesome.

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
