Suddenly can't open PDFs

I have a Dell about a year old that came with Windows 8. I open PDFs on a regular basis and suddenly it just stopped. Reader comes up and the screen goes dark and the blue circle circles but nothing ever opens.

Hi Dale ,
Did this issue occur only in this specific file ,have you tried to open another pdf file ?Have this file been opened before ?
Please follow these steps to have a troubleshoot.
1.If all the PDF format files cannot be opened the Reader App ,the Reader App may have suffered a corruption .Please run this
Apps troubleshooter
tool to have a fix. Or reinstall the app from the Microsoft Account.
2.If only this specific file cannot be opened ,try to use another pdf reader to open it if it is possible. If this file still cannot be opened, it may have corrupted.
Best regards

Suddenly Can't Open PDFs in Firefox. Starting about three days ago firefox will no longer open any PDFs. I get a blank page in a new tab. Nice timing, with finals and everything where I need to view PDFs of practice tests.

Mozilla Firefox did not do their job, here. I am an editor and am constantly online. Now, I have to go to Safari to download PDFs. I reinstalled an earlier version of Firefox to get rid of the problem, but somehow Firefox has deactivated my PDF download feature. This is a total wreck and I am so angry I could spit. Stop launching new products until you have fully tested them. Customers are not your guinea pigs. Please fix this now- and fire a few idiots on the way- the ones who let this happen.

  • Suddenly can't open PDF's

I am running Windows Vista and have never previously had a problem opening PDFs.  I updated something from Adobe and now I can't open PDF's.  I've uninstalled, reinstalled the old version, gone back to the new version, run repair and nothing changes.  Every time I click on a PDF I get a message saying : "There is a problem with Adobe/Acrobat Reader.  If it is running, please exit and try again (1:1)"
    Can anyone help?

1, Please post in the future in the Acrobat folder. This is the for Distiller Server forum.
    2. There is nothing wrong with your copy of Distiller.
    3. The content of your pdf file is that complicated. If you don't need the detail it is providing you can try rasterizing the pdf file.

  • Suddenly can't open pdf file in Word, get a conversion box message

This just started. Using Word 2002, when I try to open a pdf file all I get is a file conversion box for different systems and languages, none of which open the document. I tried going into the Properties in the file and selecting which program to open it in, but using neither Word or Adobe makes a difference.

To clarify, I am not using Word to open the pdf files. Those are in My Documents along with Word and Excel files.

  • How can I open pdf attachments in email? Adobe reader used to do this, and does not.

About 3 weeks ago, I suddenly could not open pdf attahments while reading my email. I now must down load them and save, in order to open them. Can someone help me to fix this? They open on my desk top, but not in Internet explorer. I would like to see them before down loading. What can I do to fix this problem?

Enable the Adobe Reader plugin in browser : http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

  • Can't open PDFs in Firefox

All of a sudden I can't open PDFs on my website when using Firefox, works in IE though - any idea?

In firefox you need to check two things:
    1) Make sure an application has been associated with the pdf files.  To do this try this:
    Tools >> Options >> Applications
The first item should be Adobe Acrobate document.  Click on the Actions Column to open a drop down list.  Now select the default program for your documents.
    2) you also need to check whether the scripts are enabled in the browser.  To do this try the following:
    Tools >> Options >> Content
Now Check on "Enable JavaScript"  this is the third item on the list.
Now click on Advanced Button on the right hand side.
Make sure all three items are ticked.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't open PDFs in any viewer but Quicklook works

All of a sudden I can't open PDFs in Acrobat, Preview or PDF Pen. They display fine in Quicklook, though. I can't recall anything that changed that would cause this. Ideas?

    Highlight your file>File>Get Info>
In the Get Info window, scroll down to "Open with:"
Unselect the "Change All..." button if you want to "Use this application to open all documents like this.”

Hi.  I have a Dell PC running Windows 7 64 bit.  I have the latest version of Adobe Reader,  It worked yesterday.  Today I have job training to do that is due tomorrow morning and I can't open PDF files.  I have to open a guide and read it and take a test tomorrow.  I have deleted and reinstalled the application.  I have rebooted.  I have made sure my PDF's are associated with the program.  Every PDF on my computer won't open and I get the same error message.  It simply says Attempt to access invalid address.  How can I fix this?  Thanks.

    Hi Don,
I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.
    Regards,

  • I can't open PDF files even though I have downloaded Adobe Reader.  I am using a Mac book Pro

I can't open PDF files as the screen message says I have to reopen the computer and sign the Adobe Reader agreement but even though Adobe has downloaded I don't get any screen message indicating where I would do this.
    Where is this?

after downloading, did you install adobe reader?

  • Can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer on Windows 8.1

    Hello,
after I've upgraded to Windows 8.1, I can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer (directly double clicking the file). The AcroRd32.exe runs in the background (2x !) as I see the processes in task manager, but there is no user interface visible. I have Acrobat
Reader 11.0.06, the desktop version (not Metro). I tried uninstalling the Acrobat reader and installing it again but this didn't help. The only way to open PDF files is to close the AcroRd32.exe from the task manager, open empty Acrobat Reader from the desktop
and then drag&drop the PDF file over that window. This is quite inconvenient. Is there a way to fix this issue so I can open PDF files directly from windows explorer?
    Many thanks!

I had to install adobe reader, but   PDF's used to display just fine with IE, any idea what happened ?
    Windows 8.1 pro.
    thx

  • I can't open PDF files with adobe flash player

I have installed it and whenever I try to open pdf files it says I need to agree with your liscens and you do that automatically when you download it. I have followed all your instructions on your website and uninstalled it and installed again, but I can't open pdf files with it. I don't know what the problem is exactly, but it's really frustrating..

Flash Player CANNOT open PDFs because they AREN'T Flash Documents.
    Adobe Reader opens PDFs.
To accept the license agreement (NOT the one you accepted to download or install - the one for USE)
    Windows:
Go to: C/Program Files(x86)/Adobe/Reader 11.0/Reader and double click the eula.exe file. The license agreement will open for you to accept.
    Mac:
Go to: Mac HD/Applications and double click the Reader app. The license agreement will open THE FIRST TIME you open it.
