Suddenly cannot receive Yahoo mail in Apple Mail
As of this past Monday, I can no longer receive any of my Yahoo mail thru the Apple mail client. I keep getting a message that tells me port 995 timed out (or 110, after I changed it/w/SSL on and off).
I checked with Yahoo and the help was iffy (no big surprise there). We did some telnet tests and Yahoo said it was probably my ISP blocking port 995. I doubted that, but to be thorough, I contacted my ISP and ran some pings and we could get thru to the Yahoo IP address.
I ran Mail on a separate computer and had the same issues, so it's not specific to one machine.
I can send/get Yahoo mail via my iPhone (via WiFi) with no problems.
I can SEND mail thru my Yahoo account via Apple Mail, with no problems.
I installed Thunderbird and am currently downloading all the messages from my Yahoo account, with no problem. So, Thunderbird seems to be working.
So, what I'm left with is wondering what suddenly happened to Mail that I can no longer download Yahoo mail. I've changed no settings since Monday. I've updated nothing in over a week.
Why, suddenly, would Mail no longer download Yahoo?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tips too.
Antonio
I'm experiencing the same phenomenon. My yahoo mail is working flawlessly on my iPhone, however the Mail app is not connecting to the POP server. For the past two days I've had the triangle/exclamation icon next to my mailbox. I have an att.net mailbox account and don't have any issues sending and receiving mail. A pop-up asks if I want to take the account online and still to no avail. I've deleted the account and later added it with some success as it begins to fetch my 500+ messages still on the server. Minutes later I get the warning icon and again a pop-up asking to take the account online.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

Suddenly Cannot Access Yahoo Mail on iPhone
PROBLEM:
As of last night I cannot access my Yahoo mail on my iPhone.
iPhone 3G,
Version 4.0.1 (8A306)
Firmware: 05.13.04
Error message when I tried to access email: something about I need to enter my password. I went to settings > mail> accounts and entered what I KNOW is my Yahoo mail's password...
Error message: The username or password for "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect.
And yet the password and my username were correct.
I deleted my Yahoo mail account from the iPhone, tried to re-add the Yahoo mail account and I get the same error message: The username or password for "apple.imap.mail/yahoo.com" is incorrect.
WTH?Same problem here. Any solutions?

Cannot Receive Yahoo Mail on One eMail Account
On iPad: Cannot receive or send yahoo mail on account #3. This account works fine on my iPhone and two computers. Accounts #1 and #2 also work fine on the iPad in question.
Previous to Deleting Account and Adding it back we would simply receive "Updated Yesterday" or now "Updated Monday". Would not update Account #3. Again Accounts #1 and #2 work fine on problem iPad.
Any suggestions?A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.
https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2659/configure-imap-for-iphone-or-ipad.aspx
https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mobile-mail/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html
On the iPhone, tap Settings.
Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap your Yahoo account, then delete it.
Tap Add Account.
Tap Other.
Tap Add Mail Account.
Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.
Click Next.
Ensure IMAP is selected.
Enter the following incoming mail server information:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 993
Requires SSL: Yes
Hostname is mail.yahoo.com.
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail.
Enter the following outgoing mail server information:
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires SSL
Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 465 or 587
Requires SSL: Yes
Requires authentication: Yes
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail. It may have been entered for you.
Tap Next.
The iPhone will establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers.

cannot send or receive yahoo mail or gmail from iPhone . installed ios 6 recently. tried rebooting the phone and deleting the email account and adding again but nothing works ! can someone suggest a solution?
Not sure about yahoo, but for gmail, I done the following:
Set up using Exchange on iPhone, it'll keep prompting for password. On PC use captcha option, log in to gmail account from PC after completingg captcha option, enter password on iPhone.
See how that goes for gmail, let us know.
Hopefully someone will have fix for yahoo. -

TS3899 My iPhone 4s suddenly stopped receiving incoming mail.
My iPhone 4s suddenly stopped receiving incoming mail. I am still able to send from my iPhone but not receive. My email is still coming through on the desktop, sending anbd receiving.
Thanks for the reply. The SMTP is the Outgoing , which is working. I cannot find the incoming settings though. Are there any? The settings were never changed by me, I think there has been a network change somewhere. AT&T or Apple. I have rebooted several times, and even did a restore. Same problem. The "checking email" and "last Updated xx/xx/xxxx" message at bottom of screen just constantly flashes on and off when I check email.
I can send email from my iPhone ok. -
Hello. I cannot send or receive Yahoo mails on my i-pad. G-Mail is OK. All Apps are OK. Wi-Fi is OK. I-Cloud is OK. 3G is OK. All OK except Yahoo Mail. The message on i-pad is "cant receive/send mail. the connection to the server failed." My Mac Computer is fine, mails sent and received. My i-pod is fine. Mails sent and received on both.. Only the i-pad has the problem. Should I delete the Yahoo account on the i-pad and set it up again? Will I loose anything in the i-pad? Help.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

HT1430 I cannot get yahoo mail. The message asked for password for yahoo many times.
In order to use Yahoo! Mail, please turn Private Browsing off. Please go to Settings » Safari » Private Browsing, and turn it off
I cannot get yahoo mail nor send email on iPad 3. I have OS 6 just upgraded. It keeps on asking for password. I think my yahoo email was also hacked to compound the problem. Please help.I get this warning now To. Never saw it in last 5 years and 4 iPhones. Cannot get yahoo small biz email access anymore via iPhone on safari web login because of this same warning. Typically , either yahoo or apple screwed up and changed something that effects millions and think nothing of it. (battery gate in all the iPhone 4/4s comes to mind here)
As you can tell I "used" to be an apple fan but after this iPhone 4s dies (prematureally of course) I will be getting my first android phone and see flash and the rest of the hidden Internet that apple kept from myself the paying customer. -
how do I continue to use Mail on my MacBook2? i use iCloud on my iPhone and iPad but cannot receive my Mail account on my older MacBook. I have followed the iCloud/move link as suggested but it doesn't give me the continue to use Mail option. Any help gratefully received.
Welcome to the Apple Community.
Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.

Having trouble receiving Yahoo mail on iPhone 6 sending mail is no problem?
Having trouble receiving Yahoo mail on iPhone 6 sending mail is no problem?
Any chance you use two step verification on your Yahoo account? If you've ever had to enter a code that was text messaged to you when you log into your Yahoo account on a new computer, then two step verification is probably on.
If that is the case, you'll have to generate an app specific password in the Yahoo web mail page and enter that as your password on your Apple Device instead of your standard password in Mail Settings. -
I cannot view Yahoo mail using the Imac Mail icon. The message is "map.mail.yahoo.com cannot be contacted on port 993". Yahoo technical support is useless. Any suggesions?
You probably need to reset the settings in your Mail app. Carefully follow the troubleshooting steps in Mail Setup, Troubleshooting etc.. . Instructions

Unable to receive Yahoo mail after upgrading to iOS 5.01
Need help resolve problem on receiving Yahoo mails after upgrading to iOS 5.01
After upgrading to 5.01, I also am having problems with receiving Yahoo emails. Some emails seems to get pushed and download fine from the server. Emails with attachments will show up one minute and then disappear off the screen again. I know they are not being deleted because I can check them on my laptop just fine. When I do get an email to stay on the screen, it says "this message has not been downloaded from the server." At random times, yahoo will try to check for mail and say connection failed to server or something like this. This only started happening since 5.01. I have also tried recreating the account on the phone, but that did not help. Any ideas?

I cannot receive e-mail on my new iMac with OS x 10.8 Can send; can retrieve from host server. Both connection doctor lights are green.
In my version of mail, the outgoing settings are a bit hidden. You have to click on the Server Settings... at the bottom of the screen.
I hid my user settings by dragging another window over them. The button is just below the hidden stuff. I forget what 10.1 looked like.
You could try Thurderbird. I use it. I am not sure what version you need. I used 0.7 with Mac OS 10.2. I'd try the last version of 1.x as your first quess. These are in a little harder format to sort out.
