OS Windows XP. Thunderbird version 31.1.1. Only one of my two email accounts has this problem, suddenly.

sounds to me like your trying to use say a comcast outgoing server to send Gmail mails hence also probably why one have an error and the other does not. Both are using the same outgoing server.
Right click the account in the list on the left and select settings
Select the account name in the dialog that opens and check that each account uses it's own SMTP sever from the drop down list.
If the list has only a single entry, go to the outgoing server (SMTP) entry in the list and add the server you need.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I keep getting this error message from my iCal

"The server did not recognize your user name or password for account... Make sure you enter them correctly". Yet when I check my mobile me account it says my login and password are correct. How do I get my iCal in sync with everything else (so the icon will stop jumping up and down!) ?

I'm also getting this error message for a gmail account that I have a calendar for. The only option is to click on on the error message box and this closes iCal .
I'm happy to delete all the calendars in my iCal and start again. Is there a way to do this via a back door?
I have tried deleting the following:
USERNAME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist
USERNAME/Library/Caches/Metadata/iCal/
and the caldav calendars in the following folder:
USERNAME/Library/Calendars/
should I try and remove the "Calendar Cache" in this folder and all the other .calendar files?
Or is there a tool I can download that will interface with iCal to actually remove calendars?
Any suggestions would help...

Try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Hi,on starting firefox which i have used solely as my browser for years i am now getting an error message from java script application that shows my username followed by a message saying; 'username'-Invalid username/password combination.If you keep getting this error,try entering your email address as your username'. The second issue is when I try to select "Manually Manage Music"
The iPhone "My iPhone" is synced with another iTunes libary on "MY-PC". Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."
So... I don't want to do that, but I do what to be able to Manage my music. I'm not sure what it means by being synced to another iTunes unless it means to an older version of itunes?

I cannot address the sync services error right now, but the error that you receive when you change from sync to manually manage music is what happens when you change. Once you change to manually manage music, it erases all of the music and will only put the music that you want on the phone, content that you manually drag over to it. That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?
