without any changes i am aware of, firefox suddenly stops opening from links in emails (thunderbird).
e.g. notifications from facebook.
Usually when this occurs I un-install and then re-install firefox and that fixes the problem but of course it interrupts what I'm doing and takes time. Is there a known cause and fix for this failure to open?
Make sure that Firefox is set as the default browser.

I installed Adobe dlm add-on and now Firefox will not open. I see the process starting in Task Manager but no window opens. Unistalled Firefox then re-installed but still no luck. HELP ME! Here is the solution:
First of all if you have no bookmarks you want to save, then go directly to step 7. If you want to save your bookmarks first, then follow these steps.
1. Shut down the computer
2. Reboot and open firefox
3. Go to Task Manager, right click firefox.exe, and click END PROCESS TREE
4. WAIT 30 SECONDS! Then Double-click the shortcut to try and open firefox again
5.Repeat steps 3 and 4 until firefox finally opens (trust me, eventually it will)
6. Once it finally opens, backup your bookmarks,
7. Download a copy of firefox from there website
8. Uninstall from programs menu and make sure to check the box REMOVE ALL COMPONENTS
9. install the new copy and BOOM! it works
If it doesn't work, you're an idiot. If you don't want to reinstall firefox, then you're out of luck. Good Luck! -
Just updated to 8 & now I can not open any web pages as well as firefox will not close out, it still running in the background after browser was closed. I uninstalled and reinstalled as well as disabled add-ons and plugins nothing has changed, can I downgrade back to on older version?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

PLEASE HELP. Cannot open a PDF document via a link in an email. I am using Mac 10.7.5 and Firefox.
If I receive a PDF document attached to an email by way of an icon, I can double click on the PDF icon and the document opens. HOWEVER, if I receive a link to a PDF document in an email, and I click on the link which leads me to a webpage with another link to a PDF document, when I click on the document, a new web page opens but NOTHING happens - no download box - just nothing.
Please help. This is so frustrating.
Yes, I can right click and 'Save As' - but I don't want to. I want it to open as it used to open - displaying the open PDF document in a new web page.
Then I tried to click on a download button on a website to retrieve my statement - but again, a new web page would open but it would be BLANK. No sign of any download.
When I used to open PDFs on a webpage, I used to get the Download box which asked if I want to OPEN or SAVE. This doesn't appear any more.

My email account on Network Solutions site no longer show links sent to me. Someone sent me an email with a link for me to click on to fill out an online form. The link did not display. If I forward the email to another account, I can see the links. If I open the email in Explorer, it also displays the link. Why does Firefox 18 not display the links?

Can't open some web pages... DOES ANYONE HAVE A FIX THAT WORKS?
I'm unable to open certain web pages. The pages will start to open and than the application will just stall. This seems to have coincided with downloading a security update a while back. I've tried downloading firefox and it too will not open these specific pages. I've searched the forum and as of now I can't find a solution. From what I've hear, Apple isn't even acknowledging that there is an issue. I've repaired permissions, deleted Safari plist files, all with no improvement. I know for a fact that it is not my internet connection, as my powerbook can navigate to these sites without any issues, however my powermac seems to have "forgotten" how to open some web pages.
Any fixes would be enourmously appreciated!Thanks for the reply.
I don't think that reporting the pages to apple would do much good as it's not the pages themselves that are the issue, it's something on my system that prevents them from opening up properly. My laptop will open the pages without any issue, however my desktop isn't able to for god knows what reason. I know others on this board have had similar problems. -

Basically, I am using JSP to accomplish something on my website. I am familiar with Java (not that I am good at it or anything), and the syntax is obviously quite similar to JSP. What I would like to do is open a web page (say http://www.google.co.uk) using JSP.
Basically I have code like this...
if (something equals something then do this)
//go to http://www.google.co.uk
}I suppose in essense I want to achieve what can be done in JavaScript by using the "window.open" thing, except I need to use JSP to do this so I can fit it in with the rest of my code.
Can any kind souls help me out :)?

All java code belong between <% and %>
If you want the value returned by a java class function that returns a string, use <%= %> -
Mail won't send web page content or link
I posted this the other day on the Safari site but should have posted here as well.
Suddenly I am unable to forward a web page in Safari 3.12 through Mail. I get the message:
"Safari couldn’t create an email message because it couldn’t locate an email application.
You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send email. To do so, you might need to install Mail using the Mac OS X installation CDs."
This occurs whether I wish to mail the link to the page or the page contents. The program has been installed since I purchased the laptop and never had a problem doing this before. Any ideas or solutions? Thanks,

Hi. My new computer had Acrobat on it. Suddenly, I was unable to open any PDF's. and then I tried to update and was forwarded to the Adobe site that said I had to buy a monthly subscription. I do not have the physical box with a serial number and was going to buy the one advertised on the website until I discovered it's only for students and teachers, which I am not. Well, i was on my laptop now and all of a sudden a pop up message appeared and said "your download is complete" so i went to go check it out and it was 'MacProtector'. i cant delete it and it keeps opening unwanted web pages, please help me sort this out someone?

Any help greatly appreciatedThere are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
1. Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup; 10.7 or later), from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup; 10.7.2 or later), or from your installation disc (C key at startup; 10.6.8 or earlier.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”

If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.

3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data. -

Safari on iPod touch will no longer open any web pages even after reset.
My iPod touch will no longer open any web pages via Safari. I am connected to WiFi and other apps work fine (mail for example). I connected to Itunes and did a reset - still no luck. S/w is up to date for this version of touch - 4.x.

can not open any web page in Safari on the IPad. All other wireless features work fine.
If this does not work then try a reset ,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
