Suddenly I can't play video--need authorisation endless loop

I just tried to play a video I bought months ago and have played many times. All of a sudden today it says that this computer is not authorised to play it, and pops up a box for my iTunes account. I enter my iTunes account password and click on the "Authorise" button. I am told that I have authorised one computer to play the video and that it can be authorised on a total of 5 computers. But then when I try to play the video I get the same dialog that I got before, I enter my password, click "Authorise" ad infinitem. I cannot play the video because I can't get past the authorisation process (which I have never encountered before.)
This video has never been on another computer. The only other place there is a copy is on my iPod. Why should this happen all of a sudden?

I was hoping the recent update would solve this, but it hasn't. I still get (seemingly) random request to authorise a video/song/whatever from the iTunes store.
This is an annoying bug. Why wasn't a fix included in the update? There are many messages here complaining about it.

    You can try uninstalling it completely via the control panel and then installing it back on to the computer. You can also do a plugin check if you'd like.
    Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
    Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
    If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
    To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

    Either launch VLC (assuming you have installed it) and then open the file you want to view from within VLC, or, select the file (don't open) you want to view and do Command+I and from the window that appears select VLC from the 'Open with:' option.
    You can make this the default if you wish by also clicking on the 'change all' button.

    Did you also update Adobe Flash Player to be compatible w/your new OS? 

  • I can't play videos and have followed all advice I've seen

    I can see I'm not the only one as it's mentioned on the forums a few times, but I can't play videos on Itunes or Quicktime anymore.  I've been through each step mentioned by various people one by one and it's still not working - please can someone help?  I've just bought a lead that enables me to watch my computer on my TV screen and downloaded a whole heap of films, but the only place I can watch them is on my phone!

    iPhoto v7 (or iPhoto 08 dates from 2007, and is looking for Quicktime 7 to play the videos - the version of Quicktime that was current then. 10.9 uses Quicktime X.
    Two options:
    Upgrade to a more recent version of iPhoto
    or
    Install QUicktime 7. You'll find an installer here

  • HT4072 can't play video files (mp4, avi, mkv) with 5.1 audio tracks

    I have two Macs, one with a mini-optical out and no audio through its mini-displayport, and the other that supports digital audio out through its mini-displayport. On either of my Macs, how can I play video files (mp4, avi, mkv) in 5.1 using Quicktime or iTunes or VLC? I've heard I need Perian. Is this true? If so, how do I configure it on either machine?
    Note that when I connect the computer that supports audio through the mini-displayport to my receiver, my home theater receiver detects a PCM audio connection, but the audio I get out of my speakers is still stereo.
    Both computers are running Snow Leopard. I haven't had the need to upgrade to Lion yet, but if the answer is that I need Lion do do this, I'd spend the $29.

    that's because now mplayer they switch to libavformat demuxer for mkv and ogg and i think is a bug in smplayer because is making some configuration for files in file_settings in which is sets demuxer & co. this switch is confusing smplayer and it should be reported upstream
    p.s if you actually select demuxer from smplayer to mkv it would work perfectly

    Well those are javascript errors... you may have an application installed that has modified your javascript or is interfering with it.  Have you tried using a different browser?

  • My iPod touch 5th gen can't play videos?

    I've had my iPod touch 5th gen since Christmas Eve and I haven't had any problems with it, but a few days ago it stopped playing videos and now - even though I have turned it off and back on and turned the wifi off and back on again - it still can't play videos off any site, Facebook, dailymotion, YouTube, nothing. But I can view webpages and get Internet connection just fine!!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

    you have to install avs video converter and then well im not going to translate everything but it explains you all the settings to put to have a video for you ipod. after it was converted like the website says open itunes and then drop the conveerted file to itunes and it will work (well it did with me)

    When you run the uninstaller, it will uninstall all Flash Player versions.
    If you want to revert to an older version after that, get it from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html

  • Can't play videos on a newly upgraded iBook

    I have recently upgraded my iBook G3 to 10.4.11. I also added an Airport card and a 512 MB RAM card. I can do pretty much anything on the internet (Safari 4.0.4) but can't play videos. The picture is really jumpy & laggy and the sound continues out of sync with the picture. Am I missing something or is the computer just not advanced enough to keep up?

    Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Streaming video on an iBook G3 is a toughie.
    Some suggestions which I found to help:
    Restart the computer and open only the browser you want to use. Don't have any other applications open when you're attempting to watch streaming video.
    Sometimes Firefox worked better for me than Safari (but I never used 10.4 on my iBook G3).
    Some people have reported luck using VLC:

    As a last resort, if possible, download the video and watch it from your hard drive.
    Keep in mind that the last, best iBook G3 (900 MHz) was last produced in October of 2003, so you have a very old iBook attempting to play the latest versions of video, so things are often not very workable.

    I moved my videos bought on video unlimited to the micr sd card to save space using the file transfer app that came with the tablet and now they won't play. I just get the message " can't play video". If I move back onto internal memory they won't play - I suppose because not in the original location but can't see how to fix this. I want to store and play from the sd card. What am I doing wrong please!
