  • Why don't I have sound when viewing videos on Facebook or you tube?

Why don't. I have sound when viewing videos on Facebook or you tube?

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • When I try to play a video from facebook or you tube it says blocked plug in

When I try to play a video from Facebook or Youtube, it says blocked plug in. How do I unblock this?

I wonder why the download doesn't last very long.
Flash has a reputation of being really sloppily written, and full of Hacks (which are potential places to cause problems). Mac OS X blocks outdated versions automatically when a better one becomes available.
Update Flash Player (using its own Control Panel) or download ONLY from this site:
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
The current version at this writing is 16.0.0.235, (but may be different by the time you read this).

    Hi Tavionval,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having issues with the YouTube app itself crashing or not launching, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Cannot load the "new" flash so I can play videos on Facebook via Firefox on OS 10.6.8. Have followed instuctions by after "save file" nothing happens, even after I trash the previous version of flash I have.

I am unable to play videos on Facebook unless I download a "new" flash, which I am unable to do -- following the instructions to trash the previous version included. I'm told to hit "save," but no downloading activity occurs at all. I'm using OS 10.6.8. Any clue what to do?

Hello, it seems that support is not aware of this blog post: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2013/06/updatingupgrading-to-photoshop-cc-faq.html#video
Adobe decided to limit to Lion, each operating system they support means more quality assurance.
The APIs they used for video is not supported in Snow Leopard (I upgraded just for that)
Adding another one means more quality assurance, tests, detrimental to the new features.
If you are a creative cloud subscriber you can also install Photoshop CS6 that has a video module compatible with 10.6.8

  • TS5148 When I try to play a movie on Netflix from my IPad, I get a pop up saying: Cannot play video. "The connected display is not supported".

When I try to play a movie on Netflix from my IPad, I get a pop up saying: Cannot play video. "The connected display is not supported".  I have updated my Apple TV, tried restarting it, and have tried using my IPod Touch all without any luck. This display has worked in the past. This just happen a couple days ago.
    Any ideas out there?

I have been successfully using my Apple TV with my iPad2 to access Netflix through airplay (mirroring) and suddenly it won't work.  It says "the connected display is not supported"  What's up?
Also when I try to stream Netflix through my Apple TV menu on my television it says "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later.  But trying again later doesn't work any better.
Now the only way I can watch Netflix is using my small iPad screen.  It appears the problem is with streaming Netflix through my Apple TV

  • Cannot play videos in iPhoto since SL upgrade

Since I upgraded to SL, it appears that I cannot play videos that I have loaded to iPhoto. I go into an event in iPhoto in which I have some digital camera videos and they do not play. These used to open in QuickTime and run fine. When I click on the video and choose "Show File", it will show me where the file lives. These are fine on my computer and can now run them from here, but it used to work right in iPhoto. Has anybody had this happen to them? Is it a bug with SL or is there a new setting or something I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, it's a bug. Have you applied the Mac OS X v10.6.1 Update? If not do so and try again. If that doesn't work all we can do is report the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • "Cannot play video - The Connected display is not supported" error message using Netflix 5.0.2 on my iPad

I'm running iOS 7.0.3 on my iPhone 4S and iPad (3rd gen) and have just upgraded to the current version of the Neflix app available in the Canadian App Store (5.0.2).
Although all other apps I've tried (e.g. Podcast, VLC) are able to properly output video & audio directly to my TV using the HDMI adapter (i.e. NOT via an Apple TV), the Netflix app pops up the error message "Cannot play video - The connected display is not supported".  If I start a video and then plug the HDMI cable in, it will play for a few seconds and then halt with the same error message.
Netflix & Apple were supposed to have been working together to fix the previous issue with this scenario which was causing audio to be output but no video.  The current Netflix app update was released yesterday and seems to have taken a step backward.
When I contacted Netflix support, they indicated that they have done whatever can be done from their side and this is now Apple's issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Kiron

    Hello all,
I have an iPad 2 16GB with iOS 7.0.3 and Netflix version 5.0.2. I cannot watch netflix on an External LCD monitor that I have through VGA out. I use bluetooth speakers, so the AirPlay is going to that for Audio. Before this update, this combo worked without an issue.
So as of Friday Nov. 8/2013, I contacted Netflix support, and they said they fixed the problem on their end, and the fix is on the Apple side of things, and to contact Apple support.
So, I contacted Apple support, and the first person I spoke to said I would have to agree to pay a $35 fee for 30 days of support to this problem since my unit is out of warranty. I said this isn't a hardware issue, it's a software issue, and I'm not willing to pay to fix a problem you created. So I got a Senior Level advisor on the line, and she was helpful, and she's looking into the issue for me and said she'll contact me sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov. 12 or 13) to let me know of the issue.
Here's the thing: this is a combination of Netflix and iOS not working correctly with any of the Apple Authorized Dongles. This is truly a code error that some hot shot programmer had major oversight on, and their management didn't catch it either. There was no reason for Netflix to rush to get this Netflix update going until Apple sorted out the bugs in iOS 7.
Anyway, if I hear anything from Donna (the advisor), I'll post it and let you guys know. In the mean time, good luck!

Ziatron is correct that Flash does not work on an iPad, but it does work on a Mac. See Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.160.

  • Firefox cannot play videos ver. 3.6.13 under linux suse 11.3 Gnome, why is this ?

Using FF 3.6.13 to access You Tube cannot play Videos
Black Screen - 'Reads An Error occurred pleas try later.'
I have the same problem while using Windows, Why?
This has all started since upgrading to 3.6.13 all was fine before.
In addition Firefox locks up and crashes my computer - have to reboot
not a soft reboot but a hard one.
I do hope you can help to resolve this issue soon.
    Merry Christmas.

Sorry but this suggestion did not help
    I have diabled the following
    # Shockwave Flash 10.1 r999. Gnash 0.8.7, the GNU SWF Player.
    # Shockwave Flash 9.0 r999
With no improvement whatsoever - further more i went as far as to disabling all three, still no access to the BBC iplayer or You Tube.
The only thing that i have not done is to reboot the system, i will do that next.
If this makes any difference i will advise you.
    Thanks.

I cant play videos on Facebook with Firefox but I can with IE. I am using Firefox 4.0.1

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
