Suddenly I cannot publish to iweb

Cannot publish to iweb!!!!!
Publishing error says "iweb couldn't connect to MobileMe.  Make sure your internet connection works and try again."  I have no probs with internet connection.

Try this:
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
launch iWeb and try again.

  • Cannot publish from iweb to iweb website

Had to format hard drive and re-install OS. Suspect domain file is gone? I can see my website on .mac - but it does not show on iweb. when i publish from iweb, it tells me it's been published, but no changes on .mac - any ideas? help!

I have the same problem. I tried your advice but still cannot get iweb to publish. Before I had my computer serviced it worked fine and publishing took place automatically.

  • Cannot publish on Iweb

I have read several posts on this topic, yet none seem to apply to the basic issue of publishing a site.
Although I have opened an account with mobileme, I cannot publish my site through Iweb. Even though I have previously logged into mobile me, when trying to login to publish, it is continually rejected. It is also unbelievably frustrating not be able to reach anyone for help through mobileme.
    Thanks for any assistance

Welcome to the discussions. It may be easier to pinpoint the problem if you give a bit more detail about how you are logging in and what the rejection message says. Here's Apple's video tutorial on publishing to MobileMe:

Are you referring to MobileMe live chat support? ...It's now 24/7 — see this announcement. And this was in another thread:
Just got off of a MobileMe chat regarding this. The technician had me go into System Preferences and log in as "apple" with a password of "test." Once I got the invalid account notification, I logged back on with my user name and password. That seems to have cleared the issue.

  • Cannot publish from iWeb 08 after upgrading to Leopard

When I click on Publish from iWeb I first get a window .Mac Information asking me to login and a smaller window saying "logging in to iWeb". I click on sign in button from .Mac Information window and then get the System Preferences window telling me I am signed in and giving me my account status. From here nothing happens. The "logging into iWeb" message stays and nothing happens.
    What should I do?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too! I have experienced both modem/network problems and was unable to publish in Tahiti and Cook Islands because of that and now these problems which have nothing to do with network it seems - so yours may or may not be network related. I was able to cheat and copied my "Site" folder from my hard drive to my iDisk rather then publishing. I can't remember if you've tried this or not (read a lot of strings today) but you can publish to a folder and then copy that folder to your iDisk at /Web/Sites/iWeb/Site as "Site" after first renaming the one that is out there now. Let me know if you have any questions on how to do it. It sounds like you are traveling like we are and anxious to communicate with friends and family back home. When you are bored, our site is web.mac.com/baganworldtour.
At least we now have our first update out there in two weeks. But it took almost two hours to copy the folder and this won't work forever. Hopefully we, whether by the discussion room or .mac support next week, will be able to fix the problem for real.
    Thanks. Good Luck. Merry Christmas

  • Cannot publish from iWeb to .Mac, Help please!

I am trying to publish to my site from here in Australia. I was able to publish in the country at the beggining of the trip, but can not now. I get the message "Publish Error - an error occurred while publishing file /Web/Site/iWeb/Site/Blog". I had updated two blog entries and changed the date on an entry. Since then in trying to fix the issue I deleted both of those entries. I have been through .mac support troubleshooting steps to ensure it is not a network error. I have been able to publish to a folder, but when I try to copy the Blog folder from that folder to my iDisk I get "The Finder cannont complete the operation because some data in "" could not be read or written (Error code -36)". Since then they asked that I try to publish from a trial .Mac account or from a new OS X user account on my machine. Both of those attempts failed as well, which they say indicates it's not a .mac account or OS X user set up issue. They asked that I put a copy of my domain file out in the public drive for them to look at, but when I try to do that it goes through and does the copying and then freezes at "Copying Domain.zip to Public, Copied 599.5MB of 599.5MB (Closing file...) - Please wait". Then I get the same error code -36 and am disconnected from iweb. Can anyone out there help please?
    Thanks!

  • Cannot publish to IWeb

I've created my website, with two additional pages. Will not publish. I've tried every step in the troubleshooting iweb forum technical notes. This has gone on all day. Any suggestions?

When iWeb tests the connection, it tries to write a file on the server.
When the test succeeds, iWeb is happy. That does not mean it is the right location to publish your website. It only test if it can write.
Simply connecting to the server with Terminal app or any app does not mean you can write there or that you end up in the right location.
Usually the pathname is the cause of the failure.
    So check the pathname field.

  • I updated to os x 10.8.5 today and now I cannot publish changes to my web page through iweb.  iweb crashes every time I try to publish

I updated to os x 10.8.5 today and now I cannot publish changes to my web page through iweb.  iweb crashes every time I try to publish

    First do the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Next, in Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • IWeb suddenly no longer publishing

Has this long-running issue been solved?
Having enjoyed iWeb problem-free for ages, today it suddenly refuses to publish with an error.
I have deleted the preferences and domain files. I have re-installed. None of it works. I can publish to a folder, but not to .Mac
My connection is just fine. .Mac is not syncing at the time, but iWeb does not want to know. Deleting all pages means that the new file/site menu items get greyed out, so that does not seem to be the way to go.
I have repaired the keychain, and repaired all permissions, in fact I have done a full system maintenance.
    I am stumped. Help?
    JKB

I have just discovered that I am having the same problem. Got the error saying 'The document 'iWeb" could not be saved' right after "Preparing to publish". It worked fine before. What worries me is the following sequence of events before this:
    - yesterday safari all of sudden crashed, closing all the safari windows opened;
    - then I did a software update, was told to install a security patch for mac os and to restart. did it;
    - some time after that, mac ox suddenly crashed after I launched safari, asking me to force a restart by powering down;
    - today after I downloaded photos to iphoto from my canon, I found out that I could not launch the Adjustment window to adjust my photos;
    - then I discovered that I could not publish iweb.
I makes me wonder if there is anything seriously bad happening to my macbook. I used to be a windows user. this is my first mac. thought it would be nice and smooth ...

  • Cannot publish new password protected sites to MobileMe using iWeb

Recently been getting the familiar iWeb error messages when publishing from iWeb to mobile me:
"There was an error updating MobileMe"
"An error occurred while publishing file '/Web/Sites/Sites.rss"
"Publish error: An unknown error occurred"
Did all the troubleshooting stuff detailed here - problem persists.
Today, tho', I've just noticed that these errors *only occur when I'm trying to publish a new password-protected site or trying to apply password-protection to an existing unprotected site*.
It works just fine when publishing a site which is not password-protected. It is also possible to modify an existing password-protected site without any trouble.
There's nothing odd about the passwords - all legal characters etc.
It would be better for me and my users if I could have password protection on my sites. Without passwords, I'm left relying on 'security by obscurity' - not ideal.
    What can I do?

You could split up your single Domain file into several Domain files each containing a group of sites. You'll have to duplicate (via Finder) the Domain file usually located here:
...and then double-click one of the copies to open it in iWeb. Then delete the site(s) you don't need from it. Repeat the process until you have a more manageable group of Domain files each containing several (or just one) site(s). Note that this process is not easily reversible, i.e. merging Domain files. Read more in Chapter 2 here:
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
With "many, many sites", this splitting process is not without risk — so before doing anything, don't forget this:

  • IWeb site suddenly won't publish to MobileMe

Have been publishing my iWeb site successfully with iLife '09 and Snow Leopard for a couple of months now. Yesterday I added a page and published successfully. Then I made changes to some already published pages. These pages are mostly photos and I changed download size from medium to large. Tried to publish these changes and got the error message: An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/.Temporary Web Resources/C-20091129-115210-0500/RiceHS/bavs_Iona_Prep_files/Media/DSC2189”. Try publishing again later.
Have tried to publish just changes and then the whole site again. I always get the error message but the long file name changes every time. I have deleted clientConfiguration.plist, com.apple.iWeb.plist and CachedResources.plist files. Problem persists. Anyone have any idea what is going on?

I have been having this problem for the past month.
My iWeb sites are published to Mobile Me. I update them at least once a day. Every week...usually on a weekend, I have experienced the same error described in this thread. The fact that is almost always happens on a weekend is suspicious. The only other time it happened was at 5AM on a Monday morning.
I have stopped believing that it is somehow related to an error on my computer. I tried deleting preferences in both places (the "ByHost" folder that is inside the user's Preferences folder and the regular iWeb preferences file inside the user's Preferences folder. I can publish to a folder and then drag the files to my iDisk without any problem. In the end, if I wait long enough, the problem seems to go way.
I can't be sure, but I believe this problem began when I upgraded from Mac OSX 10.5.7 to 10.5.8.
To the people who have been having this problem, I can only say that I don't think the problem lies with you and your software.

  • Cannot publish iWeb to MobileMe after renewal of subscription

Since the renewal date of my MobileMe subscription on December 26, 2010, I have not been able to publish updates to my iWeb site [www.averroespress.com] to MobileMe. A popup message appears asking me to sign in to MobileMe. When I do, the MobileMe Preferences box appears showing me logged in to MobileMe while the iWeb continues as unpublishable. Is this tied to my subscription renewal or is iWeb and MobileMe acting up?
BTW, the subscription payment has not been charged to my Visa. Who should I contact?

I'm having the same exact problem. My renewal date was 12/27/10, my account is active. Spent 3 hours on tech support chat with no solution. Not only can I not publish to Mobileme, I need to know how to change a faulty domain address that shows up on my mobileme account under idisc/sites/iweb/iweb pages, then this message when you click on the page:
http://www.sbcyouthministries.org/Site/Welcome.html This url is not correct. The correct address is www.oneeighysbc.com, as shows in my account settings under personal domain. How do I change this?
I can not publish my iweb site to my mobileme account, only a folder on my mac then to the web. Will this affect syncing from icalendar on my mac to the google calendar on my iwebsite? Does it affect one click web publishing on iweb?

  • HELP! Creating MP3 Audio Clip from iTunes to publish in iWeb

I had successfully been able to publish in iWeb MP3 audio clips. Two of 4 MP3 audio clips that I had published and uploaded to the internet and were successfully mounted on the website for a year, suddenly would not function on the internet [I checked it out on both Safari and IE browsers — not a browser issue].
I proceeded to troubleshoot the issue in iWeb to pursue the following considerations:
Was the website requiring more webspace because I tried the MP3 clip on another website I have constructed that is far below its capacity. Same results. The clip would not publish in iWeb.
I reloaded the original song in iTunes, followed the instructions "How to convert a song to a different file format".

    Hello, again, Old Toad,
Here is the webpage weblink that has the MP3 audio clip:
    http://users.xplornet.com/~gayda/Dance_in_Liturgy.html
BUT! AND, IT'S A HUGE BUT! In the iWeb publishing screen, the MP3 player has a '?' under the image.
However, upon uploading the site, the MP3 player is functioning! And, plays perfectly well. Go figure?
I cannot discern how or why this occurred after many attempts prior to my contacting you, the player in iWeb publishing mode was in a 'non-function' state. However, in desperation to have the player functional, I gave it another go round, and VOILA!, it uploaded successfully. It's a mystery to me.
What I am going attempt to do for the other website that originally had the two players, is upload it even though iWeb shows they are not published and see what happens.
It may be a website issue after all rather than the 'MP3 player'. That being the case, I will contact the ISP Domain Host and arrange for more space for this particular site.
The website that successfully uploaded the player is very small. The other one is a huge. It may be a case scenario that the latter is on overload.
Back to you later to see what happens next and verify the status quo for the original site the players were loaded.

  • Cannot publish to web gallery

I have a dotmac account and the newest iPhoto '08 fully updated
I cannot publish using web gallery
whenever I try to, I get this error message
"An error occurred while publishing the album "albumname." this is not a valid location for this request.
my dotmac account is programmed into my computer and working just fine in every other way. what's going on here?
    help! thank you

    David:
How long has this gone on? Have you been able to publish successfully previously? Apple has been having problems with their servers for the last several days. My publishing efforts from iWeb and iPhoto have been sporadic, good one moment and bad a short time later only to get good again. Be sure to post your problem to the .Mac and iPhoto feedback sites:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/mac/tm.html
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Do not have privileges to save and publish on iWeb :(

I am a newer employee at my company and we publish podcasts. Unfortunately, my iMac account can not publish to iWeb. Here are the messages I recieve when I try to publish... first:
    SAVE FAILED
You do not have permission to make changes to that file
    Then it says:
    PUBLISH ERROR:
An Error occured while publishing "The File name"
What is the problem? I also cannot save the uploaded podcast either. I have talked to the Mac people and they are stumped... they tell me I have to remove and reinstall Mac OSX, wiping out my hardrive in process.
I was able to post podcasts on the previous employee's account on this computer, but I had to clear out all of the old podcasts (thanks to a tech support mistake) to do so, and I am fearful of having that happening again. Thanks

Have you set the .Mac preferences in your System preferences to the other account and the correct password?
