Suddenly iTunes keeps starting itself

Just today I am having to deal with not being able to shut itunes down. It shuts down but a couple of minutes later it just starts itself back up.

Check Dashboard to see if you have any iTunes-related widgets running. If so, close them and see if that makes a difference.

  • ITuns keeps opening itself

    Hi guys!
my problem is just as the subject says!
    Itunes keeps opening itself
I tried everything but can't get around this. NOTE: didn't have ituneshelpper to open at login in the first place.
First i tried deleting itunes preference files - didn't work
Tried removing every app i could think of that could be interfering with iTunes - didn't work
Tried to trash ituneshelpper app from itunes package contents - nothing changed
At this time i think i had itunes 10.7 installed for a while i.e. i think it wasn't since upgrading that this problem began
then i tried uninstalling iTunes and do a fresh install - kept opening itself at login and periodically if i closed it
tired removing itunes preference files again to no success
tried to remove itunes helper at this time because it appeared at login items - no luck! even tough i removed it from login items several times it kept appearing there and even at exhaust (a login items app) all this after trashed the itunesHelper from itunes package contents again!!
At this time decided to re-install Lion again form HD recovery drive!
After this iTunes stopped opening at login only to find that i had to install the latest version (10.7) because the library was created by a newer version and as such it wouldn't open!!
after updating iTunes it started all over again!!!
And now for a little side problem - might mouse center and side buttons stopped working as well as secondary button!!! can't get around that also!!!
    Help, please!!!
    i'm running lion 10.7.5
Sorry fort the long post and thanks!!!

    Hi,
I bought a new core i5 macbook pro a couple of days ago and started getting this problem about 2 hours ago and didn't know what was happening. Everything was disabled, including taking the battery from the remote out, yet itunes was still starting up.
I just found something but not sure if it's the cause of the problem. My audio cable was not connected properly and when i moved it, itunes would start up again, and kept moving it and kept starting up, and while open, i would move it again and it would play songs. I disconnected it and plugged it back in, tried moving it and it would not start itunes. I think this has to do with the port supporting the apple earphones with remote on them. Lets hope this fixes it and if so, hope it helps others.

  • Itunes keeps maximizing itself

For some reason Itunes keeps maximizing itself. I minimize it and then 30 seconds later pops to the top of all my applications.
This is windows xp pro and I'm stumped..=/
Anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this? Or how to fix it?

I don't think it's malware or anything, my pc is clean of all that. But I think it could be something to do with my new keyboard and software for it now.
    I got a Logitech G15 keyboard and I think it's something to do with it's software....fun fun.

  • ITunes keeps starting automatically

iTunes keeps starting automatically on my Macbook Air. When I quit iTunes it just restarts again within about 2 minutes. I have checked my Dashboard widgets and there is nothing there related to iTunes. It's unclear what has triggered this and it's VERY annoying.
How can I stop it doing this?

Was having the same problem but seemed to have solved it. Did the following:
    1. Went into CDs and DVDs prefs and set when you insert a music CD and picture CD to ignore
    2. Went into iTunes -> prefs -> Devices and unchecked "Look for remote speakers connected with Airtunes" and "Look for iPhone and iPod touch Remotes"
    3. Installed Lingon (http://lingon.sourceforge.net/) and checked all my startup processes and Daemons. Found some old things like MySQL trying to launch (even though web sharing is off) and an old Maxtor one touch driver and disabled the processes or removed them.
    4. Checked the console log to be sure nothing else was running or creating an error that I didn't need anymore.
I apologize that I can't say what solved it, but aside from the prefs in the apps, it may have been an old piece of software (like my old Maxtor drive) that was still trying to run that may have been triggering itunes.
    Good luck to all.

  • ITunes keeps starting up

    hello
Since updating my iPad to iOS5 itunes keeps starting up and I close it and just randomly starts up again after a few minuets or so, how do I stop it.
I know the iPad sync's wirelessly with iTunes but when I close it I expect it to stay closed, I actually feel like unistalling iTunes as its so irratating.

I think it may be because your ipad/iphone is turned on, as now it sync's wirelessly.  So if it's (ipad/iphone) turned on it assumes you want to work with it.

  • ITunes keeps opening itself

I recently updated my software and I also recently started using a Shuffle with my iMac - I'm not sure which is causing the problem.
I have iTunes 6.0.2, and it keeps opening itself automatically. Not when I start up my computer, but if I have iTunes open and then quit the application, it will just open itself right back up approximately 1-2 minutes later. It doesn't do anything - doesn't access the Music Store or start playing music - it just opens itself. So annoying!
Does anyone know how to make it stop doing this? Is it possible I have it set to automatically open for some reason?
    Thanks!
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Coupla dumb questions:
Are you actually "quitting" iTunes by going to the iTunes Menu > Quit iTunes or by the keyboard (Command+Q)?
Or are you just clicking on the red button at the top of the program window, which actually does not quit the program. (The program is still open if you see a small rectangle symbol under the icon in the dock.)
Also check your System Preferences > CDs & DVDs and make sure you don't have iTunes set to open when you insert a blank disc, dvd or picture CD.

  • ITunes Keeps Starting Up Attention Cappy

    Hello All
This is the third post I've made about a few issues I'm having with ML and they have gone unoticed. Can someone please
give me some help. Cappy if you pick up on this can you please help me?
    1. iTunes for some reason keeps opening up on it's own. It just launches itself. Very annoying. I'm thinking of uninstalling it.
Can someone tell me how to completely uninstall iTunes, or is it a bug?
    2. In my downloads folder for some reason it always wants to show folder and application info e.g 24MB ....ect. It seems
no matter what I try it always come back and show info.
I posted these questions almost a week ago, except the iTunes bug. I also posted about VLC 2.03 where it turned my  display
that is the menubar and dektop. That seems to have cleared up. But was wondering why it would do that. Does it mean there
is something going own with my display. I have a mid 2011 MacBook Pro 8GB of RAM.
iTunes has just started up on it's own while I was writing this.
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    MacJoseph

Do you use an iTunes widget? I used to use one and for no reason, iTunes would start up. I got rid of the widget and all was well afterwards. Not sure why that happened. Give that a try if you use an iTunes widget.

  • ITunes keeps opening itself when I connect to my Bluetooth speaker

Every time I connect my computer to my Bluetooth speaker, iTunes automatically opens itself. I can't figure out what causes this, but it's annoying and I would like for it to stop. Does anyone know what causes this? Thanks in advance

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1666895  but it might work to just disable iTunesHelper.  If you do that you may have to start iTunes whever you want to sync a device instead of it autostarting.

  • ITunes keeps opening itself up

Hi, can somebody please tell me how to disable iTunes from continuously opening itself up for no paticular reason? I'm not sure why it started doing that but now every 2 minutes or so iTunes will just start itself up and it's getting incredibly annoying.
    help please!!

Go to System Preferences/Hardware CDs and DVDs and check if iTunes is set to open whenever you insert a disk of any kind (although music CDs is a natural choice, obviously)
Also, check your Login Items in System Preferences/Accounts for any iTunes related stuff
A likely cause can be found by making note of what you are doing when iTunes launches ... if you are working with media files of any kind -but potentially any kind of file - check to see what application is being opened by double-clicking that file (use Get Info).

  • ITunes keeps starting at random

Since I have updated to 10.5 iTunes will start back up after being closed for 5-10 minutes.  It's pretty annoying.  I've already rebooted after the update and the problem is still existent.

    Mine too..

  • ITunes keeps starting and starting and starting like the undead

iTunes (64-bit version) keeps trying to start on a pc (Vista 64bit) where multiple users are logged in. Whenever one of them opens iTunes, the other account tries to open iTunes and repeatedly tries to start and gets the "another user already logged in" error. When I try to close out the open iTunes, it closes, but then restarts itself. When I try to close the reopened iTunes, it stalls, then says that one or more applications is using the scripting interface but I can't figure out what.
I've used msconfig to disable all the non-essentials on start up but it's still happening right after logging in. This is without any ipod or other devices connected, home sharing is off, I've unchecked all the "look for" and shared library boxes. I appreciate any ideas on how to solve this or at least on how to identify what's trying to use the scripting interface (and yes, I realize this wouldn't happen on a mac:)

    I have 2 ideas.
    1) Go into each windows user account, start itunes, and do the
itunes menu > help > Run diagnostics > network connectivity tests.
The results will show if there are any 3rd-party itunes plug-ins that could be causing itunes to launch.
(edit: plug-ins use the iTunes scripting interface)
    2) Get SysInternals process monitor and see what is accessing itunes.exe. You have to be fairly PC-savvy to download, install, configure and run this advanced troubleshooting tool.

  • ITunes keeps opening itself up, how do I stop it?!

Okay all I've become more than irritated by iTunes lately. Every time I go to click the x in the upper right hand corner, or even go "File" then "Exit" every thirty seconds or so after I close out iTunes it unbeknown to me opens itself back up. I've gone through services.msc to disable anything that could cause it to open itself back up. I've even checked everything in iTunes so I have to manually open it up.
However as I said before, every bloody time I close iTunes 30 seconds later it opens itself back up for no reason at all. In order to fully close it I have to use cntrl, alt, delete and shut it down fully that way. What else can be done to stop this? This is really driving me crazy.
Other than this little thing I have no problems. Oh and I have an iPod Classic 120GB and Windows XP.

So you put up with IDVD opening at start up even though you may not even need it to?
I just fixed this on my own. Somehow IDVD had gotten included in my start up preferences under log in options. Removed it. Problem solved.
    Thx.

  • ITunes keeps starting the song over again

I just got the new version of iTunes (7.0.1) and the songs work fine until I try and add the album art. As soon as I add the album art the song will play for the first 3-5 seconds and then start again about 1-5 times before it continues to play the song. This is really starting to get annoying, can anyone help?
      Windows XP

My problem is that ITunes plays my songs but keeps on "pausing" "skipping" on tracks for a couple of secondsa then continues. I thought it was my PC but all the songs work on Windows media player. Any suggestions Ver 7.0.2.16?
