Suddenly lose admin rights, and odd occurences

I have no clue what has happened here so any help would really be appreciated.
I log in as normal with my admin account. Everything seems fine. Then after a few minutes I suddenly notice the admin rights I had a second ago have disappeared, even though I am still logged in and have not touched a thing. Something somewhere has changed and I am unable to run some programs, change some system settings etc.
Also during this 5 minute period my System Preferences changes. When I log in it is initially as I recognise it and as it has always been. After about five mins (and at the same time as the admin rights go) an "Ink" icon to the Handwriting recognition program has appeared. I have no tablet or anything similar and never have had!. In the sharing options my settings are different too. Things i had turned on are now off. (When i re log in again, for the first 5 mins everything is back to normal again)
In the 5 mins that I have rights, I have run system optimzer and repaired permission, prebindings, run maintenance scripts etc but it still happens.
Has anyone got the faintest idea what is happening. I literally had a working Imac, went away for a couple of days and come back to this. Help!

Within the first five minutes of logging in, open the Activity Monitor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder as well as another application, and see what account the second application is listed as running as. After the five minutes are up, launch a third application and check the same thing.
In addition, around the time that you lose administrator access to the machine, check whether the name of the item in the Finder's sidebar changes, and whether you lose administrator access in a program which is running when the five minutes run out.
As well as that, within the first five minutes, issue the following Terminal command:
sudo tail /private/etc/sudoers
Post back with the complete results of this command, including whether or not you were prompted for a password when running it.

Error 1321 when updating Adobe Acrobat Pro even if profile has admin rights and parent folder has full access privileges.
    Exact error below:
error 1321: the installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\I386\[dll file]
    Thanks in advance!

My first thought is to not just apply permissions to the folder but be sure to apply them to all objects inside them. It would be interesting to see if you can rename this file, then rename it back to its original name; this would test permissions nondestructively.

  • Unable to bulk copy data. - Random failure, running as SQL Agent with Admin rights and timeouts=0

    Hello,
My setup is SQL Server 2012 (11.0.5522) and SSIS, but still running the 2008 R2 created packages. The server is Windows Server 2008 R2 with 32GBs of memory.
I am running a control package which calls 4 packages at once to run simultaneously for performance reasons. It runs every day with issues, but maybe once a month I get the failure:
'Unable to bulk copy data. You may need to run this package as an administrator.'
The SQL Agent is setup as admin, it has access to the create global objects the source and destination databases are on the same server and the timeout is set to zero. Each package has the standard batch size and takes about 3-4 minutes to complete.
Its not easily re-creatable and always runs fine when I re-start the package.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Kind regards, Graham.

  • Possible to update Flash without admin rights AND without internal server?

We have numerous laptops and tablets that are rarely, if ever, connected to our internal network.  All of our users are standard users; our users are not allowed to be administrator users.
Nonetheless, we'd like Flash Player to automatically update itself from Adobe's servers all the same.
Is it possible to have Flash Player automatically update for non-administrator users without connecting to our internal server?  It seems like we could somehow use the Flash updater service, which runs as the SYSTEM account, to do this.

    Hi,
    try with this instruction:

Worked for me (and many others, as seems)

  • SBS 2003 server admin rights dont work access denied on VSS and Network settings

Hi I have just taken over support for a company and have inherited a SBS 2003 Server.
The server has had no backup for over a year (when the last admin left).
VSS does not work, so the back does not work, unable to install any other backup as no admin rights.
I want to repair it so I can do a backup to move to a new server.
I did not know the administrator account password (the last admin didn't tell anyone)
So I used a password reset boot cd and then restarted Windows 2003 in Directory Service Restore Mode.
Copied SRVANY and INSTSRV to a temporary folder, mine is called D:\temp. Copied cmd.exe to this folder too. Next ran at a command prompt instsrv PassRecovery "d:\temp\srvany.exe"
    next
    Started Regedit, and navigated to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\PassRecovery
Created a new subkey called Parameters and added two new values:
    name: Application
    type: REG_SZ (string)
    value: d:\temp\cmd.exe
    name: AppParameters
    type: REG_SZ (string)
    value: /k net user administrator 123456 /domain
"123456 is substituted for the password I used" Im not daft enough to publish it lol
    Next
opened the Services applet (Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Services) and opened the PassRecovery property tab. Checked the starting mode is set to Automatic.
to the Log On tab and enable the option Allow service to interact with the desktop.
Restart Windows normally, SRVANY run the NET USER command and reset the domain admin password.
OK so now I am logged in as administrator but guess what I still don't have admin rights???
I can add new user with admin rights and log in as them but they still don't have admin rights Im totally lost??????????? Help please

I'm thinking the previous tech may have renamed the built-in domain Administrator and then created a new account called 'administrator' with lesser rights?  He then used another domain admin account to manage the server.
If so, and given the fact that you don't know any domain admin account usernames or passwords, I think you may be in for a move to a new server without a proper NT backup of the SBS 2003.
However, If you can at least log into the SBS 2003, I wonder if you could download and run DIsk2VHD and create VHDs (not VHDX) of the current SBS 2003 drives, saving them to an external USB drive connected to the server.
You could then 'attach' the VHDs to a Win7 Pro computer and gain access to the files/folders, although not the Active Directory stuff.  Moving Exchange and Sharepoint would impose additional pain.  For Exchange, you could log
onto workstations as each user and export their Exchange mailboxes as .PSTs.  I believe you could do the same with any Public Folders.

Of course, the owner could also have his attorney contact the previous tech and threaten legal action unless he coughs up the correct domain admin username and password.  That username and password belong to the owner, not the
    tech.

  • Sending Publisher Connection Key gives Admin Rights in Contribute CS4

I manage numerous remote sites around the country remotely using Contribute CS4. Each site uses a common template with different header images and left navigation.
All of these sites function beautifully except one. On this particular site, sending a publisher connection key allows the user to connect to and edit pages on the site. However, the connection shows my (admin) email address, gives the user admin rights, and then puts a lock (.lck) file on almost all of the files, including the .CSS file. It also gives odd messages about workflow errors.
From my end on the Contribute Administer Websites panel, the user shows up as publisher, but on their end, they have admin rights and my email address displays on their connection
I tried deleting all of the files in the _mm and _notes folders and starting over, but this did not fix the problems.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Did you try re-creating Publisher keys for them, and sending it to your client? Also, with the existing key which your client has, what is the Role information for that connection key? This can be checked in the My Connections dialog.
Where is your e-mail address being shown? If it is in the My Connections dialog along with the connection name, then that is because the administrator's e-mail address is shown there.
    Hope this helps.

  • Acrobat X: Can't print to PDF without admin right

    Hi,
running Acrobat X pro on Win 7 64 Bit, I can't print to PDF from any application (e.g.ms office, chrome, open office, arcobat itsellf....) without admin rights. I just get the error message, that the printing failed.
However, starting the application with admin rights, and trying to print to pdf will work.
I already tried to repair the installation without success.
Here you can find some screenshots of my problem:
First, the printer properties, opened from excel:
    the error message:

There is no free PDF printer driver from Adobe. That functionality is included in Acrobat and it used to be part of e.g. Pagemager in the past as well by ways of including Distiller.  If you want it for free, you have to look elsewhere, otherwise buy Acrobat. On OSX it is also part of the operating system already, BTW.

  • Adobe Updater 9.3.2 Admin Rights

    Hi,
Simple question really.  The updater feature in adobe reader 9.3.2, does a user need to have administrative rights to use the "Automatically Install Updates"  option.
ive installed it for a test user without admin rights and it has the entire updater feature grayed out and the radio button is set to "Do not download or install updates automatically", even though i have the registry key   [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM] "iCheck"=dword:00000003 set.
when i log in as someone with admin rights the setting to automatically install updates is selected.
    thanks in advance

  • Adobe air admin rights installation error

so i just bought town of salem on steam, and i need adobe air to run it.. but i cant seem to install cause it needs admin rights and i contacted windows to verify that i do have all the rights. any ideas/tips?

I'm sorry you're running into installation issues with AIR.  Microsoft has a utility that can help resolve installation problems.  Would you mind giving this a try and let us know how it works for you?  When running the Fix it, go through the uninstall process and try to remove Adobe AIR from your system.  Once finished, download the latest version of AIR and install again.

If you still encounter problems, we'll need to review the AIR installer log to better diagnose the issue.  Please post back with the log contents.  You can find instructions for finding these logs here:

  • Installing without admin rights on Win7

I am trying to get a definitive answer to whether Adobe Creative Cloud can be installed and used by someone who does not have administrator rights to their Windows 7 PC. In our company, we restrict user rights and users cannot "elevate" their rights to install software. Normally, we package ALL software and deploy it by Microsoft SCCM, which overcomes any admin problems automatically. We could presumably do that to install the initial cloud download manager application. But it is not clear whether that will then be able to install the specific applications the user requires when logged in using their (user mode) account. Does the creative cloud installer run as a background service - that could be set to run with an administrator service account? Can one user with access to the cloud downloa da traditional installer package which could then e passed to SCCM for deployment to other colleagues? Is there any official suggestion from Adobe how companies that enforce lock-down of user rights can use the Cloud?
    Thanks!
    Anthony

    Hi Anthony,
I know that installation at least requires admin rights and most likely first launch with some of the apps. I believe its possible to run most of the apps from a limited user once installed. This is true for all Adobe products not just Cloud products. I believe we are working on options for deployment for Creative Cloud Team which would support technologies such as SCCM, so even if this option is not available for cloud currently, it may be something that is available in the future.

  • Lost admin rights - install Canon software

I've been trying to install a Canon Digital Solutions disc, and keep receiving the same error - I don't have the necessary access privileges, please log out and log in as an administrator.
The account that I am using has full admin rights, and I have not made any changes to the computer since purchasing it, except for uploading software updates. The computer already came with v10 of the Mac OS, which appears to be a cause of a lot of the faults that I can find.
Can anyone help, I'm new to Mac's and don't want to start messing around with the back end if this can be helped. Of course, to make it better, I am not in my home country, and therefore don't have access any of my software discs for a couple of weeks.

All three show that I do have admin rights, in terms that I have the short name, then underneath have 'Admin' in the line underneath.
I have another account that is called Guest, which has the text 'Login, Sharing' so I assume that this is the access for each account. My apologies, all Mac terminologies are new to me.
I can 'print screen' (to use a windows terminology) if you can inform me of how this function works on a MacBook.

  • Stuck on how to improve very slow query without any admin rights

    Hello All,
I am using the code below to query a very large data table (RH) and a few other joined tables. I am trying to improve the query but I do not have any admin rights and have no idea how to get diagnostic info on how the query is being executed. Apologies for the system specific and probably not easy to read code but I do not have a generic version that anyone could run, and no admin rights so I can not create tables.
The main part of the code below (subquery R) takes about 10 minutes to run (3 minutes without the date parameters) and the full code (with the two analytic functions on top) below takes an eye watering 30 minutes to run and this is only a subquery of a much larger query so I really need to get this running more quickly. All I want to do is place a cap on the dates, get partitioned row numbers and a lead row value on one of the fields. I really am stuck on how to get this query more efficient. Am I counting things multiple times unnecessarily? How can I make this quicker? Am I committing some cardinal programming sin in using analytic functions on subqueries?
Apologies for the vaugueness of this code and my questions but I am totally clueless about diagnostics and basically have very limited system access so I'm stuck as to where to go or to look.
    Very grateful for any advice,
    Jon

Thanks so much for replying blueforg, and for pointing out the code markup.
Our server is in the US and we run our code from London, so it is the local time I am interested in, CURRENT_DATE is merely there to get that and as you suggest is not a column. I want my cap to the first of whatever month I run the code on so I'm happy with that bit of the code (so 1 Oct if I run it today). I'm just surprised at how slow my code becomes when I try and restrict the dates and get the row numbers and next row values.
This code is actually a subquery used in a much bigger query that I am trying to tidy up and make more efficient. The RN is important as I will eventually be filtering for RN = 1. I didn't post the full query as it is huge, badly written (by me) and and particular to our databases so I'm tackling bits one at a time to cut down on confusion. I'll repost with the RN=1 and the code markup ;)
I also restricting the RH table directly (SELECT * FROM FTCH_RTNG.RTNG_HIST RH WHERE RH.EFF_DT < TRUNC(CURRENT_DATE,'MM')) and moving the analytic functions into the R subquery but that is very slow as well. I heard that temporary tables are efficient? I'm assuming that with my rubbish priveleges I will not be able to do that. I don't want to take any chances of messing anything up either!

  • Admin rights suddenly gone - anyone ideas?!?!

    hi,
I have had something very odd happen. I am the admin on my Mac, and there are two other accounts that are not Admin, but User. Today, when using fast user switching, when I signed into my account, I no longer had admin rights to anything!
It was really odd, only a restart would set things right again. I repaired permissions, ran scripts through Onyx just to be sure. I also downloaded and installed the combo update again for 10.4.9, first time was throught software update. Repaired permissions, etc.. You know the routine.
Anyone else seen or heard of this problem??
    Thanks!

    Hi,
It happened 2 times over the last few days. So I decided to create a separate ADMIN account, and remove the admin feature from my account. Probably best thing to do anyway.
This is a new mac, that the informaiton from my old eMac was transferred from via the migration assistant. I wonder if that has anything to do with this? It has been about 5 months since this was done, and the issue never happened until just recently. May have something to do with all the security updates??

  • Installation Server and Windows 7 - Admin Rights Issue

Here is a good one.  Completely reproducible error when granting Local Admin Rights by the LSH Service.
For those with SAPGui Installation Server (SAPGui 7.20 Patch 6 or above) ... try this on a Windows 7 SP1 front end when you are NOT logged on with local admin rights.
      1) Open the Windows RUN dialog
      2) Type path to your installation server\setup\nwsapsetup.exe
      3) You should find the install wizard starts (granting local admin rights) as expected.
    NOW TRY THIS
      1) Type path to your installation server\setup\nwsapsetup.exe /uninstall
      2) You will find that you get a dialog about can't grant admin rights. Un-install will abort.
This only appears to happen with the /uninstall switch!  Using /product= for example it will still grant admin rights.
    BIZZARE ...
I've opened a Customer Support Message (Friday) priority - MEDIUM  have not heard back from SAP Support yet.
    Bob

    Jude,
Thanks, it looks like that note has been getting a lot of update activity lately because the newly released Patch 8 has nwsapsetup.exe as version:  8.6.1.62   and that version also has the issue with the /nnnnnn switches.
I do have to say however, that this issue with nwsapsetup.exe and admin rights (requiring SapSetup.exe_Patch) first appeared with the release of Patch 6 for the Gui.  It was fixed for WinXP (I had a customer support message opened on this).  So why didn't anyone also test on Win7?
Who is QA-ing these software releases?
Patch 8 had the same problem.
The change log for SapSetup.exe_Patch, is up to 8.1.6.70 now.
How are we in large enterprises to feel comfortable deploying any of this?
    End of rant ....
    Bob
P.S. I really appreciate your presence here ... the tech assigned to my formal Support Message on the matter still has not gotten back advising of the updated release of SapSetup.exe_Patch.

Also if it helps I switched internet providers and during the time when my ipod was being fixed a new router was installed and it doesnt seem to work unless directly infront of my ipod.
