Suddenly lost my airport card?

Just trying to diagnose my loss of my airport card in my 2-year-old Macbook (white) tonight. I was using the network (internet and wireless home network) all day, then suddenly was disconnected. I dropped down the airport icon and saw no networks available (I can always see mine and at least a few of my neighbors). Figured it needed a kick, so I rebooted the computer, and when it came back up, there was no airport icon at all! I looked at the system profiler and clicked on the Airport Card - the message just says "No information found". I didn't install any new software, updates, OS or anything.
Does this mean my card died? Or are there other tricks to try before taking it down to an Apple store for a new card?
Thanks.

Same problem on this end and only for the past month and a half. Took it in to Genius Bar and they suggested clearing all preferred networks and starting from scratch or doing a complete wipe of the hard drive. Everything else they suggested, I have already tried, but to no avail: archive and install, reconfiguring, restarting all units.
Everything was fine when we moved to this house 6 months ago, now I can't walk into the next room without losing the signal.
Does anyone from Apple actually read these forums?

  • PC suddenly lost my sound card (Audigy 2zs)

Yesterday, out of the blue, my PC was no longer able to play music. I was playing an album through mediamonkey?and suddenly it stopped. Took me some time to realize that my system no longer identified the sound card. I'm using an Audigy 2ZS and now not even the drivers appear on the system manager.
I tried a lot of things to no avail:
    - Tried to reinstall the drivers: they won?t install because they can't find the hardware.
    - Tried uninstalling everything (drivers, creative software, etc), still coudn't install the drivers.
    - Changed card to a different slot, still system can't find it
    - Tried to install an X-Fi that I also have (I still prefer the audigy) on both slots, no go, same problem, same steps as the above.
    - Tried a system restore, no change.
I am now using my onboard sound but I would very much like to go back to my audigy. Here are my specs:
    - Gigabyte GA-P3-S3G mobo
    - Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 @ 2.53GHz
    - 2 GB Ram
    - Nvidea 8800 gt PCI-E ultra-edition (Gigabyte)
    - Windows XP SP3
    - PCI wireless network card (Blekin Rangebooster, can't remember the model)
As far as I know, nothing on my system has changed. It probably has nothing to do with that or else system restore would work.
In the past I had a similar problem, with a different machine not being able to see the sound card on a fresh XP install. I gave up then, but after a few days, all of the sudden, a message poped-up telling "new hardware detected". Only then was I able to install the complete software and driver pack.
So anyway, any ideas on this one? I would love to get my Audigy online again....

/Re: PC suddenly lost my sound card (Audigy 2zs)& Hi Zehnra, I don't think it's exacly the same problem. My PC sees no card at all and even reeboting with a diferent one on a diferent slot won't do the trick. I also don't think it has anything to do with any windows update or else system restore would take care of that (I restored it to 24h of the failling point).
I noticed one thing thouh, I still have some leftovers from creative stuff, so maybe that's what blocking basic xp drivers. But hunting everything down by hand is a b****, specialy going through the registries...
On your case, someone told me on some other forum that there is some kind of bug with newer drivers and SP3. If I were you I would try to unistall everything first, also the x-fi drivers. There is a diferent instalation menu within the installation package, directly on the xp drivers folder. After that try rebooting and if your PC sees the card, try installing trhough the original CD... Sorry if you already tried that but I ran out of ideas. Moved to my onboard card now.... ?

  • I've suddenly lost all Airport networks HELP!

G5 dual 2.5 APExtreme card that worked untill recently. The computer is hardwired to the Wireless router. It was an APExtreme base, but has been switched to a net gear. All of the other computers in the office, G5, and three powerbooks all "see" the new network on the netgear, however this one G5 no longer shows any networks when AP is on. Usually I can see at least two other nearby networks, but not now.
I've tried fsck, permissions, optimization, and can't figure this one out.
    Any suggestions

Did you try turning Airport off then on again?
Is the Netgrear broadcasting the SSID?

  • I've suddenly lost my airport network

i was trying to sort out a problem with xbox live and was fiddling with a few internet settings. i didn't really know exactly what i was doing. i've managed to do something that's disabled my airport. i can't detect the network at all now. Any suggestions on what i have done will be great

"fiddling with a few internet settings"
Which settings where? Settings on your MacBook in System Preferences, or in your AirPort Express unit by using AirPort Admin Utility or AirPort Utility? Or settings in your AirPort Extreme unit? Hard to help without knowing exactly what you're referencing and when you multiple post with the same info.

  • Address Book has suddenly LOST all my cards! Help!

I had to do a forced quit when Safari hung up and in doing so, when I rebooted, ALL my Address Book cards completely disappeared! Where did they go ... and why would OSx dump my address book? How can I get them back?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Try this:
    Quit Address Book.
In folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook drag file AddressBook.data to the desktop. Rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data and restart AB. If your contacts are not back quit AB again and repeat the drag/rename process, this time with AddressBook.data.beforesave.
If you get your contacts back, now is probably a good time to use the AB menu item File/Back up Address Book.

  • I have been using my macbookpro for the past 2 years and suddenly yesterday it stopped connecting to wifi and keeps sayin airport card not installed...pls help

I have been using my macbookpro for last 2 years and suddenly yesterday it's not connecting to wifi nd keeps saying no airport card installed...how can I fix this?

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • MacBook says no airport card install suddenly

My MacBook suddenly lost wifi connection and says that no airport card installed. How can I reinstall the card?

There are a couple of things you can try to get your AirPort card working again.
Reset the Parameter RAM - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243
Reset the System Management Controller - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If neither of those works, you probably have a dead AirPort.
Contact Apple using www.apple.com/support/contact if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the MacBook in to an Apple retail store or service provider to ask for an estimate.
    Best of luck.

  • Airport card can see networks but can't connect all of a sudden

I have an older MacBook running 10.6.8 (snow leopard) and it's been working fine. All of a sudden, it can see networks, but cannot connect. I get an alert with an exclamation point and "no Internet connection". My iPad can connect just fine; same network, same location as usual, so I know it's not an issue with the network/router (my husband's computer works fine as well). If my airport card went, I wouldn't be able to see any networks at all, right?  Is there anything I can do?  My AppleCare has run out, due to the age of my computer and I don't want to put hundreds into fixing it, either (nor can I afford it). Has anyone had this happen?  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

  • MacBook 2008 wifi suddenly stopped working and says no wifi hardware. Took it to an apple shop, they said it could be the airport card but wouldn't do anymore then that.  Any help on how to fix this? How do I know if it is the airport card or not?

MacBook 2008 wifi suddenly stopped working and says no wifi hardware. Took it to an apple shop, they said it could be the airport card but wouldn't do anymore then that.
Any help on how to fix this? How do I know if it is the airport card or not?

If the technician at the shop is competent, he has given you a diagnosis that should have identified the problem.  You could run the Apple Hardware Test to verify the findings:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
Note the Apple Hardware Test is not definitive.
Go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com web sites.  They have parts and installation instructions.  To install an Airport card is fairly easy.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Airport card has lost its IP address and won't connect to my network

The Airport card on my MacBook has lost its IP address and will not connect to my network. It worked fine until about two or three days ago. Network Diagnostics says that the Airport now has a self-assigned IP number and will not connect to the Internet. I can't find any info anywhere that tells me how to restore the IP number, and I don't get how it can have a self-assigned number and not connect. I have AT&T U-Verse, and my iMac desktop and two iPhone 4s connect with little difficulty. The MacBook is three years old, and AppleCare just expired two months ago. I'm still running 10.6.8 on both machines. I found an article saying that sometimes DHCP leases expire, but my desktop still works ifne, and I've had both connected to the same network since the same time. The artcicle said that more than one machine can share an IP address, so I wanted to try to enter the desktop IP address into the laptop, but I can't find a way to do so, either. Any thoughts?

Have you tried making a New Location for each yet? The Automatic one get confused easily.
Some "nix" to try when it happens also...
sudo ipconfig set en1 BOOTP;sudo ipconfig set en1 DHCP
    sudo ifconfig en1 down;sudo ifconfig en1 up
Sometimes having an all OFF Location can help, thanks to Gnarlodious...

  • Yesterday while on WiFi at an international airport, I suddenly lost content in Safari and a window popped up that suggested that someone was trying to spoof setup.iCloud. Do I need to be concerned about malware or other residual problems.

Yesterday while on WiFi at an international airport, I suddenly lost content in Safari. A window popup suggested that someone was trying to spoof setup.iCloud. After arriving home to my own network, Safari still was acting strange. Do I need to be concerned with possible malware or other destructive software remaining on my iPad?

  • Airport card suddenly gets no signal--not network problem

Hi all, I have an original Airport card that's been working fine in my G4 TiBook for the past 5 years. Today suddenly my network connection dropped. At first I thought it had to do with the base station, but two other computers in my house (both with Airport Extreme cards, if it makes any difference, though I don't see why it would) both connect fine, and resetting the base station makes no difference. The TiBook still recognizes the Airport card, turns it on and off, etc., but it itself can't see the base station or the network or the other two computers' computer-to-computer networks. When the TiBook creates a computer-to-computer network, my newer AlBook and PowerMac can't see it. I haven't installed anything recently, I haven't dropped the computer, I haven't even looked at it funny. As you can tell, I'm pretty exasperated and at a loss as to where to even begin looking for a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, we're on totally different generations of powerbooks. Mine is the 2nd gen. Gigabit Ethernet TiBook, so the battery definitely isn't the issue. I'm also using a replacement battery, not an original Apple batt. I also find it hard to imagine a scenario where the battery would suddenly start interfering with the Airport, esp. since the recall defect has to do with overheating.
I went to sleep last night and when I woke up this morning, it was working miraculously. Then, I left and came back a few minutes ago, and it was out again. I think I'm gonna open it up and reseat the card, etc., since it seems like some kind of loose connection. But I have no idea if I'm even in the right ballpark. Ach....
Let me know if you manage to work any miracles.

  • Why does my MacBook suddenly not register that it has airport card?

Regularly (about 6 times a day or more) I loose my airport connection on any network (home, in coffee shops, library, at work, etc.). The airport status icon usually goes blank (as if it is off) and will either not turn back on, or says that no airport card is installed. It will not come back on unless I restart/shut down my computer, usually at least a couple times. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you resolve it?

hmmmm that's an interesting problem. Is your macbook under warranty? It might be a hardware issue so I would take it to an apple store.

  • Time Capsule lost connection, now my computer tells me there's no AirPort-card installed... HELP!

This morning my Time Capsule blinked orange for a minute, then went back to green. In the meantime I couldn't see one single wifi network through my Airport, it just showed as no connection and no networks available (my husband also on this wireless network, had no problems though). I decided to restart my computer and after doing that my Airport told me there's no AirPort-card installed. I can't look for my Time Capsule now as it won't detect it of course, so through that there is no way of solving it. I did the disk First Aid as read somewhere that checking and resetting the authorities for writing (I'm sorry, really don't know the right term for this, in Dutch: Schrijfbevoegdheden) might help but that didn't do anything. I really don't know what to do, sure it's a software program but I'm a total nitwit with computers and don't want to start just doing things and messing it up even worse... Any help is much appreciated!!!

Updating to 10.5.6 fixed the issue.
