Suddenly my MBP can't find my TC-airport anymore

Hello
I recently got a new MBP (13"). I immediately upgraded to SL with migrating files from my recent MBP on the Time-Machine-Backup on my Time Capsule.
Everything seemed to be fine. I later upgraded to 10.6.1 . That also didn't seem to cause trouble.
The only thing I noticed was, that since the SL-upgrade I was not able to deactivate airport for menubar nor System preferences. I thought that might be related to TM, TC and wake on airport, the new ability in SL. However I didn't pay much attention to it, as I am always online anyway.
Now I have been out with my MBP to internet café and I noticed, that I also can't connect to any of the provided open and free WLAN-networks there. A friend of mine with her Macbook and 10.4 could without any problems. I thought that might have been some settings issue or a permission issue. But wasn't able to solve it at that place. The "permission repair" delivers since the upgrade errors, which it can't obviously solve. But at home the connection was still possible.

Yesterday I took my MBP to office. It's a complete Mac office, except the router, which is from Telecom Germany (T-mobile mother company). I can't remember exactly, but I think I didn't work right from the beginning, but finally I could connect to the airport network there. The network was still stored in my network-prefs from my old MBP.
When I arrived home I had to testify that my home Airport-network even doesn't appear on my MBP.
As increase the security I mad it invisible at setup. So I connected via Ethernet-cable. And changed that setting. Didn't work.
I even couldn't connect by connecting manually by typing the networks name and password. I just says connection failed. This happened with all accounts and account-typs on my MBP.
I tried to connect with my old MBP, meanwhile with 10.6.0 too. No Problems there.
I started my new MBP from SL-DVD. Also no problems. I was able to manually connect to my MBP.
I found one workaround, but it only lasts for some minutes to a few hours. If I restart, and log in as Admin, then go to Network-Prefsand, change to automatic location, selct airport, choose options, select my airport-network from the preferred-network list, choose edit and reselect the WPA2, reenter the password. That seems most of the time to work. But lasts only a short time.
So my conclusion is, that it is not a TC, or MBP-Hardware issue. It is also not a SL 10.6 Problem.
I might by SL 10.6.1 or more likely a problem with my installation/settings. But what could it be ???

I have downgraded now to 10.6.0. It seems to be a little bit more stable now. It is my impression, that in some rooms in our flat the connection is unavailable as there are more than 20 WLANs ther. Maybe that's the reason. That would also give an explanation, why it suddenly got worse here. Maybe just another neighbor got his WLAN-Router from his ISP and now all channels are full.
I am using the n-standard with 5GHz with 24MBit/s and 100%. Is there any other thing I could do to stabilize my private airport-network.
By the way due to all this I managed at least to get rid of my permission failures thanks to CarbonCopyCloner and a fresh installation on an other disk.

  • Macbook Pro can't find properly working Airport Express network

I have an Airport Express that's set up and working properly, and my Mac Mini and my iPhone both find the airport network, but not my MacBook Pro. The MacBook pro is even closer to the Express than the Mini is, and it finds many available airport networks (from the neighbors), but not my own network that the other units find without a problem - my own network just isn't listed among the others on the MacBook Pro, and Airport Utility on the MBP can't find the Express either. I've obviously tried restarting everything, as well as resetting the Express and setting it up again (which works just fine from the other two units), and I've tried creating a new user account on the MBP and check from there, but no go. The MBP runs the latest version of Snow Leopard and works just fine with other Airport Networks (at work, or one of the neighbors networks even), so it shouldn't be faulty hardware. At some point it's time for a Lion update for the MBP and then we'll see if it's some weird system software error that gets resolved in the process. But until that happens … what else could I try?
I'm thinking maybe this is some 802.11 b/g/n malfunction? The Express is an old g, the iPhone is g only, and the Mini is an old g as well, but the MacBook Pro is newer and supports n … but it should of course still be able to switch down to g and find the **** network (or the Express when running Airport Utility).
    Anyone?

Well, I can't delete the wireless connection since it doesn't really exist (on the MacBook Pro). Had the Express in my office, but brought it home, and reset it there and created a new network using the Mac Mini, so the MacBook Pro had never been connected to that newly created airport network. But I did delete a lot of old saved connections, some of which were from when the Express was used in my office. This was however, before I read your reply here, so I didn't also erase the passwords from the keychain, however. But still no go; the MacBook just wouldn't list the new network among the available ones, or list the Express in the Airport Utility.
But then … last night, for no apparent reason whatsoever, suddenly everything just works.
In trying to wrap my head around this, and learning from it. Is it even possible for an old network used on an Airport device to interfere with a new network created by the same device? What I mean is, does the computer identify the airport by some sort of serial number or something, regardless of the network created by the airport? So that when a computer should be looking for a new and current network on an airport device it instead looks for an old network it has previously been connected to on that same airport device? Assuming the old network should still exist on that same device, and therefore skipping to look for a new network on the same device? I mean that would suck, but if that's the case then at least I'd know to always erase all traces of any old connections for a specific device in a case like this. ;-)
    Thanks for your input!
    Cheers!

  • MBP can't find one specific wifi network.

The hotel where I live offers free wifi (The Cloud) and for months I've been using with full signal.
Suddenly my MBP (mid 2010) was unable to find this network.
My iPad and my iPhone (and friend's devices) are still connecting at any time with perfect full signal.
I've tried holding alt+cmd+P+R at boot to reset PRAM and NVRAM but it still can't find that specif wifi network.

Update: after another NVRAM and PRAM reset (alt+cmd+P+R) the wifi network shows up but I'm still unable to connect to it. When selected I've got a message of "connection timeout occurred" and the network disappears again.

  • Sudden error I can't find and StageWebView (AIR for iOS)

    Hey all,
In my app I allow a user to download files from a list and then typically use StageWebViews to display them (videos mostly). Recently my app started to misbehave.
    I'm using Flash Builder 4.6 with AIR 3.2 on Win7 Pro 64.
I test on-device. I choose fast export (quick packaging) and debug right from Flash Builder so I can see traces/errors/etc from the iPad.
After downloading a ~40MB MP4, I save it to the applicationStorageDirectory (and mark it 'do not back up'). I then wait 3 seconds just to be sure the write has a few seconds to complete. Then I black out the screen with a black sprite, stick a close button on the screen and load the video into a new StageWebView.
The problem is the first time these larger 40MB videos are saved and attempted, TONS of code isn't firing off or affecting the display. The video plays just fine, centered on the screen. However all the code to remove tons of things from memory during video playback which has tons of trace statements sprinkled in is simply not affecting the iPads display. This ONLY happens on iPad1 (OS 5.1). iPad2 and iPad3 work just fine.
I presumed I was being too aggressive with the iPad1 and added more and more time between downloading, saving and setting the bit on the file so the iPad1 wasn't innundated with doing to much at once. I can add 25 minutes worth of setTimeout between playing this video for the first time and it will fail every time though. So it's not being innundated.
If the video is already downloaded and a user selects it, it works perfectly fine. All views/classes are disposing properly to free up as much ram as possible for the video playback.
Now, I'm getting this error randomly:
Error #2044: Unhandled ErrorEvent:. text=Plug-in handled load
I can't find where this is coming from. Has anyone seen this before? I don't know if it has anything to do with what I'm seeing fail here. I doubt it because I get it a very short time (few seconds) after the video starts playing back. I only get this video the first time a file is downloaded and played but then never again.
I have an UncaughtErrorEvent that isn't even catching this. Everything to do with the class that displays the video has try {} catch() {} blocks over every line of code. So doesn't the small file downloader class. Nothing is throwing an ErrorEvent.
Is there any easy way to find where this error is being generated? Something I might not know about the Flash Builder Debugger? Other errors show up and tell me where they occured, but this brand new error does not cause the app to fail and the debugger doesn't even flinch at it.
On the first part, has anyone recently seen their apps exhibit something like this? I have a list of files that I destroy before I show the video and it continues to exist even though I literally trace() all over the code that should destroy it and I see the traces. Everything is nulled. Objects no longer exist. The background isn't visible that I'm tracing as I build and it exists on the display list. It's very odd.
It'd just like suddenly StageWebView has an issue loading a freshly downloaded and saved file. It nukes the display list, nothing I do to it matters. But if the file already exists it all works fine.

Yes I use ie.jampot.nativeExtensions.MobileBackup. Worked perfectly fine before and continues to return a true Boolean value for success and Apple has never rejected the app. They initially did because I did not set the backup bit. I presume that means it's working just fine.
This app crashes after that code happens, during trying to load the content into a SWV. But hey, why not, I'll disable that and we'll see what happens. I'll report back. I get no errors at all when the app crashes (when I fast build for debugging and test on device). No errors at all. It just crashes. That's.. not good.
    edit:
Nope sorry, didn't change a thing. The second time I use URLLoader after properly disposing of it each time it fails on any large files and the app crashes with no info back to Flash Builder. Even with MobileBackup disabled completely. Sucks.. Flash Builder profiler is showing me the reference counts on objects and I can see I'm cleanly disposing of everything properly.Something won't leave memory even though all reference counts are 0. This does NOT happen on iPad2 or iPad3, just iPad1 past OS 5.1. Ugh...
    re-edit:
After profiling like crazy, tracing like crazy, crossing all my T's and dotting my....... lowercase j's...... I can only conclude there is now an intolerance for MP4s being played in a StageWebView of a certain filesize. YMMV but just making a quick demo app, downloading a 44MB MP4 and playing it works fine the first time. I then dispose of everything and verify it in profiler. I even run garbage collection manually on the profiler and it still curiously has a lot more memory in use than what it had at app launch. All instance (reference) counts are 0. Curiously memory is still pretty close to the same amount as the video I just played regardless that I disposed of the SWV instance completely. It's like the dispose isn't working. My method of dereffing the class level private variable is:
    _swv.stage = null;
    _swv.viewPort = null;
    _swv.dispose();
    _swv = null;
This doesn't seem to release the memory as fast as I'd like to see. Perhaps there's something lingering but that should properly dispose of that SWV instance.
Upon downloading the second video, the very second it's finished downloading (via binary mode URLLoader) the app crashes. It doesn't even fire off a complete event or error in any way, the app literally just quits. Perhaps the previous 40MB video is somehow still lingering and once I have that 44MB video in mem and try to load a different 40MB video it's 40+44=84MB ram trying to be allocated. I can't see why because as above, I'm disposing of the SWV. Reference counts of _swv is 0 after the first video is played and closed.
Really strange but be careful, something new is going on here. It used to work perfectly fine. It appears to be an issue since 5.1. Perhaps Apple caching the SWVs contents when it's not desirable to do so. I may have to go back and use StageVideo and draw up my own video controls. I only use SWV because both it comes with nice controls and a fullscreen built in that runs very smoothly. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.. Well.. it's broken.
I have verified that 20MB videos download and work fine. 40MB is giving me issues. Not sure where the line is here.

  • MBP can't find airport extreme but internet works

I have a MBP with Lion.  I just purchased an airport extreme and connected an external harddrive with time machine linked to it.  Perodically my MBP, loses the Airport Extreme base station and cant find the Airport Extreme.  It cant find it in Airport Utility even after rescanning.  When this occures, time machine wont work because it cant find the drive/server.  I can manually locate the airport extreme by using the IP address though and I have a working internet connection.  But it's getting annoying because it seems to be at random that the base station just disapears.

I bought an Airport Extreme yesterday and hooked it up today. Everything went great, but eventually all my wireless devices lost their connections. I've read several other forums where this has been observed as far back as 2009. Most attribute it to a firmware update, but that certainly isn't my case. My wireless devices include a Samsung TV, a Sony 'Google TV' internet box, and two Macs just to name a few of what I connected today. And they eventually lost their connection. Wired connections don't seem to be affected.
It appears that Airport Extreme's wireless feature is going into a sleep mode that is hard for it to wake up from, or it's overheating (it gets very hot). And this has nothing to do with signal strength, range, or interference. It could be a combination of settings as a 2010 post stated that Apple told him to do a hard reset and ensure "Allow Setup over WAN..." and "Allow SNMP" are both unchecked.  Neither are checked on mine, so I guessing that might have been a lucky workaround back then. It's a pain to restart AE and re-enter the password on any device just because AE might have been idle for a period. After more than 2 years of this behavior, I'm surprised it continues to this day with no fix or clear explanation. Maybe there's a solution out there somewhere.....

  • Suddenly my PC can not find out TC's hard drive

I use TC as home sharing hard drive and connect my PC with TC through ethernet cable, but suddenly can not find it at my computer

That sounds like firewall. Or some fault in ethernet.
Are the connectivity lights on.. both the TC ethernet port and the PC port should be alight?
If so, turn off all firewalls and make sure the computer is set in home .. not work or public area.
In the command window type ipconfig /all
Make sure you are getting an ip from the TC.. if not manually set it.
Some recent windows updates have been causing issues.. this is so familiar to any windows user.. a perfectly working system is ruined because MS thinks they are smarter.. use system restore to roll back to time when the PC worked.
From there work out which update killed it by loading them one by one.
This is why I moved to Mac btw.

  • MBP can't find SSD after kernel panic

I installed a Crucial  M500 240GB SATA 2.5-Inch 7mm drive using an Other World Computing adapter into my MacBook Pro back in October.  It has been working very well until yesterday.  I typically leave my laptop on and just close the case.  When I opened it yesterday, a kernel panic message came up and after a few seconds the machine rebooted to my internal hard drive and I was able to continue working.  The SSD just had my applications and system so my work materials (docs, etc.) are OK.  However, the machine can "see" the SSD drive.  I have tried Disk Utility and Drive Genius with the same result.  Before I start opening the MBP, can anyone suggest other steps to take?  I have the system backed up to Time Machine.

    Mandy:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Are you able to boot from the install disk or the Apple Hardware Test disk?
If so, boot from the install disk and Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
Then boot from the AHT disk and run all tests in a loop by holding down Command + L during the tests.
    Good luck.

  • PowerBook G4 can't find printer via Airport

All of a sudden my G4 laptop (Leopard) can't find my printer, Canon ip4200 using Airport. I deleted the printer and added it to my printer list. I rebooted. Nothing works. However, when I connect directly to the laptop, the printer works. Any suggestions?

In System Preferences/Printing & Faxing, have you selected the Share this Printer box?

  • Can't find the manual setup anymore

    Hi Community!
Yesterday I got myself a TC 2 TB for my MBP and PC setup. Everything went fine with the setup so far. The airport setup assistant guided me through to make my basic settings. Now I would like to make fine adjustments here and there. But when I open the Airport Utility now I can't find the assistant or the manual setup anymore. Where did it go? All I get is the cool graphic with the internet globe and my TC at the bottom. When I click on the TC I can edit, but not for example my printer for sharing over the TC and other configurations that were present during the initial setup.
How do I get the manual setup back?
    Cheers, Zoober

Just how do I get rid of the 6.0 version. I tried deleting it but a message said it is a utlity app and can't be deleted. I'm really sorry, I'm new to the Mac world.
Suggest that you leave it on your Mac and wait for further updates and improvements.
It is possible to delete the application, but you must use Terminal commands to do so. The Terminal is a scary place for most of us. Best to leave things alone.
You can keep both 5.6 and 6.0 on your Mac

  • HT1338 in version 5:  i can't find my downloads widget anymore.....anyone?

hi!  i recently purchased and successfully downloaded version 10.5.8 and all was fine.  i've suddenly lost the "download" widget and cannot download, open docs, or images.  anybody know why?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Safari can't find the server (Airport)

    I'm totally confused about airport:
I've got a G5 upstairs and my Powerbook downstairs. I have configured the G5 so that my PBook recognises it, I'm able to connect to the G5 using my password etc etc there is good signal.
But when I try and open a web page it just says "safari can't find the server "
In Network prefs it says: "Airport is connected to the network... Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet"
What is going on, how do I fix it please?
    Many thanks for any help

    Hi,
Does email work? Do you use an ISP for Internet connectivity, or do you run your own DNS nameservers?
If you use a third-party's ISP's DNS for name resolution, those machines could be down. That would result in Safari not finding the web page requested. To determine whether or not your ISP's DNS name servers are up and running, try ping-ing them. If you can ping them then the problem is probably on your machine.
Do you see any network-related error messages in the file system.log in /var/log? If so, post them here so debugging can proceed.

  • [DeskI XI 3.1] Can't find the "CurrentUser" function anymore

    Hi to all,
I'm moving some BO 6.5 reports to our new BO XI 3.1 release...I've got these reports which use the function "CurrentUser" (I'm not sure that's the English name, I've got it in Italian)...however, this function seems to have been disappeared from Desktop Intelligence! I can't find it in the list of functions, and if I write it I get an error that the function doesn't exist.
However, in the DeskI help on functions, the CurrentUser is still listed...
    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Daniele

    Hi,
I've found an answear: somehow, it's a translation issue I believe, because I've found the function to be associated to a name like this: =Componente aggiuntivo aziendale() (it means Additional company component).
Still, it's impossible to call the function...so I believe I'll have to wait for a fix from SAP?
Hope to hear something soon from you

  • Where can I find (full version) AirPort Utility v5.1?

I would like to do a fresh full install of the AirPort Utility v5.1 for Windows on a new computer.
I have downloaded the Updater version from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportbasestationupdate2007001forwindows .html but it requires that version 5.0 is already installed.
I have searched the Apple site for the full version 5.0 installer and can not find it.
Can anyone please provide a link to either the full version 5.0 for windows, or the full version 5.1 for windows?

Just so you guys at apple knows, this is ridiculous.
What do you do if people lose the disks or buy the used hardware and they didn't get disks?
The software only works with the AirPort Extremes so why does apple make it difficult for people who want to by there AirPort Extreme?
The fact that I cannot download the software coupled with the fact that I cannot e-mail Apple about simple questions makes me want to just sell the AirPort Extreme and get a Netgear or a DLink or something else that is supported and worked the way the rest of the world expects it to.

  • Can't share internet over airport anymore

    I’ve got DSL hardwired to a G5.
It has an airport that used to share my internet connection wirelessly to several laptops.
The other day, I restarted the tower, and I was unable to reconnect to the web from the laptops.
The little airport icon with the antenna/up arrow doesn't show up anymore.
I can use the airport on the tower – the card still seems to work so that’s not it. Something in my G5 system (10.4.6) won’t allow internet sharing to airports anymore.

Have you gone to system preferences -->sharing-->internet
check to see if it is switched on.
