Suddenly my text entry is lagging/very slow in Mail

This only happens entering text in Mail, not in text edit (or here). I'm using 10.5.8. Cause?

That could be caused by many things including being low on RAM or a cache. You can do a simple restart or to reset some of the caches restart in Safe Mode. To check to see if you're low on RAM when you notice the system slowing open Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and check the System Memory tab. If the FREE RAM is 500MB or lower you could probably benefit by a RAM upgrade.

All of a sudden, my MacBook Pro is running very slow?!?

I have had my MacBook Pro for a about a year and a half and have had NO problems with it. A few weeks ago, my MacBook has become very slow, to the point where I have to restart the computer. Most of the time the dreaded beach ball appears and my MacBook just freezes. This occurs with the simpilest tasks such as opening Safari.
This is becoming very frustrating and I am losing my patience, I am hoping it is something that I can fix on my own to avoid going into Apple.

Creating text boxes is causing VERY slow performance

i've read the threads about how slow indesign cc has been from last year. i would assume this issue had been fixed by now, so i just switched our
whole company over from cs5 to cc. we are a prinitng company that makes calendars with many text boxes, and indesign cc is about 1/2 as fast
as cs5 was in creating these from scratch. i've noticed the more text boxes, whether used or blank, causes it to slow even more. i can't do anything
without it lagging and pausing, which is not productive whatsoever.
is there any fix at all to this or is this ever going to be fixed? i have found no solution.
we have 32 gb ram and decently fast macs (not the newest but decent), but processing speed can't be the issue when it seems everyone is having these same problems. (we do not have retina dislplays, just normal samsung monitors)
we have tried saving new files out as the new cc version but that doesn't help.
try it for yourself. make an 8 1/2 X 11 document with 100 step and repeated text boxes. even left blank, the whole programs slows down.
i need help, or else i have no choice but to roll everyone back to cs5.

Since I have last spoken with you I did download os 10.7.5, and I will work with it today to see if it's any faster. Unfortunately as I predicted it "broke" 2 of our other powerpc applications that I absolutely have to have, so that's a whole other set of issues that this has caused me.
I will let you know if I still have the same performance issues. This is the last thing I can try because I cannot upgrade this mac to 10.8. If the performance isn't better I guess I'll just be forced to go back to CS5.

Hi Chris,
We are officially NOT supporting 10.6.8. The official supported platforms of Mac are 10.7 onwards.
I too would recommend that you upgrade as we haven't performed much testing on 10.6.8. It currently works but the outcome may not be nice as you are already facing.
Maybe you can try upgrading to 10.7 or 10.8, your mac may support these platforms and so does InDesign.

Pages for iOS7: Text entry in tables is slow

I've found that the new Pages on iOS7 becomes unusably slow when entering text into tables, especially noticeable with a Bluetooth keyboard.
Recipe:
1. Connect keyboard (I use an Apple Bluetooth keyboard)
2. Create a Pages doc
3. Insert a table
4. Move insertion point to be inside a cell
5. Type text into table cell
Expected result: text is entered normally
Result: text lags keystrokes by approximately 0.5 seconds
This behavior is not apparent when typing text outside of tables, and the keyboard works great in all other apps. I have tested this with several documents on an iPad 3rd gen, iPhone 4S and a new iPad mini, all running iOS 7.0.3. Results are similar on all, though the mini is almost tolerable.
I've tried resetting all settings, restarting devices, to no avail. I suspect a bug that will be worked out, but I am checking here to see if anyone has a solution.
Unlike some, I am overall pleased with the update to iWork, with no issues with old documents of any note. I like the way that the desktop and mobile versions now are far more equivalent, that works well for what I need in my work.

Update: I was contacted by Apple support for details of this behavior. I hope that means that a fix is in the works!

What is causing very slow outgoing mail on new iphone 5?

Hi, I just got the new iphone 5 and set up mail with the auto options that the iphone gives me. It's for Gmail and yahoo. I can receive just fine on both, but both have issues sending. It will take 5-10 mins to send an email. I've done everything I've read that is supposed to fix it... delete accounts, set up again, shut down phone, restart, etc, etc. I've scoured the interwebs and can't find a solution.
If I set up gmail through the microsoft exchange, it works, but why won't it work through the pre-set up gmail account? Any ideas? Is it something to do with the SMTP? HELP!

Another way to continue using assistive touch and reducing the lag completely is to go to Settings>General>Assistance>Increase contrast>On
This solved it for me but I am hoping its just a part time fix as I enjoy the translucent visuals. Increase contrast basically takes away the layering found across the OS. My lock button is broken so I am forced to use assistive touch and this is really the only thing I can do rightnow. Try it out it should work well for you if you're willing to make a small sacrifice.
However, Apple should adress this issue as the iPhone 5 should be able to handle this kind of load from the OS without any issues especially considering that the 5C, which comes preloaded with iOS7 has the same internal hardware.
Hope this helps you, for the time being until Apple, hopefully, fixes this issue.

JDeveloper IDE suddenly very slow for past two days

Hi All,
I have Jdeveloper 11.1.1.4 for more than a month now. Suddenly the JDeveloper IDE has become very slow. It is very annoying having to wait for the code changes to show across and windows take long to get in sync. I have 3.25 GB RAM running on XP service pack 3. Also, I scanned my machine for likely virus, but has come clean. It is only with Jdeveloper I am having problems. All other applications are running fine. I even tried just running JDeveloper alone. No luck.

Did you install any new extensions? When is it "slow?" Is it when doing a specific activity, or just overall "slow?" What does your OS show (is JDev using lots of CPU, for example)? Have you tried making a backup of your "system11.1.1.4.37.59.23" folder (numbers may be different depending on version) and then deleting it so that JDev recreates it for you (you'll lose all of your preferences/settings)?

Using Express and Extreme - Suddenly very slow.

I've got a Mac Pro (2009) with 10.6.8. It's hooked up to an Airport Express.
In another room I've got an iMac hooked up to an Airport Base Station. That's where my modem for the internet is.
I've had no trouble for a year but suddenly the Mac Pro is running VERY slow. I got the latest firmware but didn't change anything.
The Airport utility says "This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this AirPort wireless device and might improperly configure the device."
I went to download the update but it's for system 10.7 and up.
I don't want to update now because I'd have to update too many programs and plugins.
Any ideas why it's suddenly slow?

Your Netgear router, most likely, doesn't support DD-WRT, and therefore will not work in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). You might want to consider substituting your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) for the Netgear to be used as the main base station and your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as the remote base station in a WDS configuration.

Help: My PowerBookG4 has gotten very slow

All of a sudden my PowerBook G4 has become very slow. I get lots of beachballs while it is thinking what to do. It takes 5 minutes to restart and sometimes 5-10 seconds just to open a folder (with a beachball while I wait). All apps are running slow. I have a 60 GB Hard drive with 6.5 GB free space. I just run repair permissions (nothing needed to be repaired) and I veriified the drive with HD utility and it said it is OK. Here is the info on my system:

Your HDD space is pretty close to the minimum 10%, although I suspect that is not the issue. However, you might benefit from taking a look at Dr. Smoke's FAQ Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk and free up some space before it gets too full and you run into further difficulties.
Your RAM at 512 MB is a bit meager. Your RAM will max out at 1.25 GB. I suggest you boost it to at least 1 GB.
I am not sure what maintenance procedures you do regularly. I suspect that one of the issues is that your computer needs maintenance. Download and launch MacJanitor and run the daily, weekly, monthly tests.

I am getting ready to through this computer out the window. I cleaned my drive, I ran Onyx, Clean Sweep, Apple Hardware Test (how good is this, anyway? it said the memory and the drive were fine), Disk Utility repair permissions, repair disk and everybody said the computer is fine, but remained slow, slow, slow. I ordered DiskWarrior update about 1 week ago, but it has not even shipped out. I reinstalled (with achieve) my OSX 10.4 (did not bother to update to 10.4.10). It takes the computer 5 minutes to startup (time to get me to login window) and another 5 minutes to load my desktop (I only have the drive image and 3 files there). Takes 3 minutes to shutdown. Just trying to open a folder gives me a beachball and 5-10 seconds to open. Beachballs, beachballs, beachballs all the time. I guess my last resort is to completely reformat my disk. Does anybody have any final suggestions, before this goes out to the dump?

Very slow performance when assigning value to a form item

Dear all,
I have an add-on form that contains 30 text edits. I did not creat the from with screen painter but positioned them by marking each item's top and left position in the new sub.
I have named them as 'edBox1', 'edBox2'......, 'edBox30'
At a point I need to assign value to each edit text, I have queried the content from DB into one recordset. However, when I start to assign values to each edit text, the performance became very slow.
my code is as follow
me.form.items.item("edBox1").Specific.String = recordset.field.item(0).value.tostring
me.form.items.item("edBox30").Specific.String = recordset.field.item(29).value.tostring
I found that B1 seem to iterate each item on the form in order to find the item I specified.
so I think I should specificy items earler.
Now for each item I dim an object for it at new sub
Dim oedBox1 As SAPbouiCOM.EditText
Dim oedBox30 As SAPbouiCOM.EditText
and while creating forms, I specificy each item to the matched object
Then I assign values to items by
oedBox1.String = recRetrive.Fields.Item(0).Value.ToString

However, B1 still iterates to find the item and the performance is still slow, does anyone has a better solution to this issue? please kindly advise.

you can find one example under SDK samples which will guide on using datasources
Bind the controls to dbdataource and then query the datasource.
then update form using oForm.Update(),this will automatically fill the values in all edit boxes and it will be very fast as well

Very slow email connection on one mailserver only

I will try and keep it short but it is complex (to me!):
I have suddenly, since Friday 2 March, experienced very slow connection to one of my ISP's mailservers. Emails without attachments work ok'ish (a little "hesitantly"), emails with attachments of moderate sizes (eg. +/- 500 KB) download/upload extremely slowly and most of the time fail. I have asked my ISP, who are generally helpful, and they have tested the mailserver and can find nothing wrong. So, here we go:
The problem is both for ethernet and wireless.
The problem is for one account only. I have a different account with the same ISP, but on a different mailserver, which works absolutely fine.
Two different Macs have the same problem. The other PCs with different ISP's accounts work fine.
Router is working fine with good internet connection and email via one of the two accounts works fine.
It is not a problem on my computer (since it is the same issue for two machines). Both run OSX 10.6.8
I have tried both Entourage and Outlook on both machines; same problem everywhere - one account works, the other doesn't (properly).
I have tried with my iPhone, using the same wireless connection and same account details, and it downloads emails with attachments speedily - emails that failed to download on the MBP/Outlook.
I have tried one of the machines (a MacBook Pro) at home with a different wireless connection but to the same mailserver and it works fine there!
This happened last Friday and no settings have been changed locally for months.
My conclusion is (but may be wrong):
The router is fine
The macs are fine
The email clients are fine
General connection to internet and mail is fine
The mailserver is probably fine
But a connection between one mailserver account and the two macs has suddenly gone wrong.
It is almost as if there is a setting on either the mailserver saying "I don't like that connection to that place, I will slow it down." or somewhere in this place saying "I don't like that account on that mailserver, I will slow it down."
The question then is:
Which network setting is so specific that it can be this selective? And why did it suddenly happen?
I don't seem to get anywhere, so I'm trying the communities. Any help much appreciated!

Update: After two weeks of scratching my head trying to find any local settings (computer or router) that were specific enough and after really not doing anything at all, normal service resumed suddenly. I have now had a good short week without any disruption or speed issues. The problem that was is still a mystery, though.

When I upgrade to yosemite, when I have to send and receive mail is very slow. Mails take a long time to be send and receive, and the mail boxes disconnect frequently. I am using the yosemite mail server and don't have this issue with user with Maverick.

So let me see if I understood it right... In Mavericks you didn't had this issue, this only happens in Yosemite and you are using Apple Mail, not another mail client. Have you tried in System Preferences > Internet Accounts unchecking and rechecking the email checkbox on your account?? If that doesn't works try deleting and adding your account.

My macbook pro is running very slow with some strange mouse and window movements. The trackpad is very unresponsive and when responding the cursor moves on its own and/or very erratically. When on safari the window suddenly zooms in or highlights words.

My macbook pro is running very slow with some strange mouse and window movements. The trackpad is very unresponsive and when responding the cursor moves on its own and/or very erratically. When on safari the window suddenly zooms in or highlights words and looks them up via dictionary. I currently have a wireless mouse connected and I am still having the same problems.
I fee like I may have a virus or my laptop is perhaps being accessed remotely. All of the sharing options are unchecked.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
     after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
     Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
     Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
