Suddenly no mic input level thru mbox

I have been recording vocals successfully in GB 2.0.1 through an mbox. All of a sudden, with seemingly no change in anything, I'm getting no level when I sing into the mic and record (I just get a "chunk" with a straight line as opposed to the wavy audio line, if you know what i mean). The mbox is still offered as an input choice in GB preferences, the digidesign manager program seems to be working. I've tried opening various songs in GB and recording to vocal tracks where previously i've had no problem - no levels.
And, when I record through my iMic it works (but at a lower quality)
why would the mbox all of a sudden stop working? any ideas? all is the same as far as I can tell, phantom power's on, levels same, on "mic" setting, correct channel. I've tried quitting, restarting the computer etc
any insights would be greatly appreciated!
D

Hi Gerald and Scott,
I"m sorry for the delay - I've been out of town. Thank you both for your replies. As it turns out i think my mbox actually died. Its in for repair now...so we'll see.
I am interested in the driver you mentioned, Gerald. You use this instead of the Core audio driver? I was wondering what is it that you like about this driver in particular? Also, do you pro tools by chance?
thanks
Deb

  • Boosting the mic input level

    I want to boost the very faint signal from my low-end, basic dynamic mic into my iMac so the input level is higher.
    I would appreciate any feedback on any of the following products or choices:
    My choices seem to be a mic pre-amp:

    or

    Or a basic mixer (which evidently has a built-in mic pre-amp:

    Or an audio-interface:

    Any intel or thoughts on these would be much appreciated. I'm going for decent, clean sound quality, not Abbey Road.

    Hey jvanostran,
    Sorry to hear you are having these issues with your Mac. If you are having issues with your mic not retaining the input volume levels in the Sound preference pane, you may want to try repairing the permissions on the startup volume, resetting the System Management Controller (SMC), and resetting the NVRAM. I can use Skype without any issue with my MBAir, but as soon as connect using facetime, my internal mic loses it sensibility (I've tracked it under the Preferences/Sound/Input). After disconecting, I can see that the mic starts functioning normally again.

    you should be able to set it with the input slider in the Track "i"nfo pane

  • Samson C01U usb mic/low input level

    I recently bought a Samson C01U usb condenser mic to use with Garageband to record voice and piano for my music studio. When I plug it in, it is recognized in system preferences/Sound. But when I try to record in Garageband, the input level monitor barely responds. I've selected Mono 1, as advised by tech support at Samson. I can't figure out why this mic isn't working, since it's recommended for this exact purpose. I don't think I should need a pre amp, but now am wondering if I do. I'd be so grateful for any advice.
    KM

    You know, the Samson C01U worked ok with the SoftPre software from Samsontech under Tiger. The input levels could be bumped up sufficiently for the **** thing to actually work even if the input signal was still on the low side.
    Since SoftPre doesn't work with Leopard, the C01U is basically an expensive paperweight.
    Since Samsontech seem incapable of getting their act together in putting out an operational Leopard compatible SoftPre software release, my advice to the wider Mac community is to BOYCOTT THEM! If Samsontech aren't receptive to consumer needs and flexible enough to act accordingly when the OS is updated, they deserve to suffer the commercial consequences - period!
    I'm looking forward to the liberating ritual of taking a giant sledgehammer and obliterating my now useless, overpriced Samson C01U. It's going to be awesome !

  • Adjusting the input level of my laptop mic in LE?

    I tried making a recording using the laptop mic, but I can't adjust the input level - tried doing it from the preferences in the "sound" of my laptop, but it won't adjust levels in LE? Any help?

    If a proper license is held for the product, MS do say that you can use any legitimately-acquired media to re-install.
    If the computer originally shipped with a manufacturer-supplied copy of Windows (OEM), then only the media from the OEM should be used. This might require him to purchase a set of recovery discs or USB from the OEM.
    It may be possible to retrieve/download a copy of Windows 8.0 or 8.1 from the MS website, with only a product key, but, it is common for modern computers sold now, that there is no visible product key (instead, the key is stored in firmware)
    If you need to download Windows 8.1, to create installation media, this article may help:

  • IRig input level for vocal mic extremely low

    Hi All,
    I have ben merrily using my iRig and Garageband for Ipad to record instrumental tracks with no problem, but recently decided to try and add vocals. Just to test it out I bought an imitation SM58 style dynamic mic, with an XLR to jack lead so I could use the iRig, however when I go to use it, the audio/input level for the mic is VERY low - any ideas as to why this might be? I've turned the track volume and input up to maximum but it's still barely audible. Suspect it might be the mic, so tempted to spend some real money on a condenser mic, but worried I will get the same result. Are there any alternatives / success stories with recording vocals through Garageband, and what are you using?
    Thanks
    Nick

    I have used the Shure SM58 and many microphones similar to it in studio and live settings, and that microphone requires what is called Phantom Power when it is run through a mixing board. In a nutshell, Phantom Power runs 48 volts on the channel the microphone is in, because that microphone only sends a passive signal and it needs to be powered. So the reason your microphone would put out such a low level would probably be because there's not a substantial for your iRig to pick up, even at maximum gain. I would look into purchasing a phantom power unit or some other preamp that you can put between your iRig and microphone.

  • Audigy SE - mic input suddenly stopped working

    .Audigy SE - mic input suddenly stopped working6 I use a Creative Audigy SE sound card and it has worked fine since the day I bought it until recently the mic input stopped working.
    Fair enough, I tested with spare headset in case headset was faulty. No workie. I tested headset in laptop - workie.
    So I bought a replacement card, no workie. I get sound out, but cannot get a signal on my mic when connected.
    I have troubleshooted this extensi'vely (checking the settings in the creative panel, windows control panel, the mics mute switch is not on) and have run out of leads.
    edit: i have also updated drivers and tried a different pci slot.
    Message Edited by rdegan on 07-4-2009 0:47 [email protected]

    So after my mic input stopped working on my Soundblaster Audigy, I have done the following troubleshooting:
    - checked headset works in another computer;
    - bought a brand new sound card;
    - checked all driver settings for an accidental mute;
    - updated sound card drivers;
    - ensured on-board audio is disabled;
    - formatted windows XP;
    - Run XP control pan audio diagnostics.
    Still I cannot get sound on my Mic input. My sound output to headphoes is fine. Can anyone offer any other trouble shooting?

  • Stop the built-in mic's input level from decreasing during videochat?

    No matter how many times my girlfriend sets her Late 2008 15" MBP's built-in mic's input level to max, the input level always decreases on its own during our videochat sessions.
    Since the level decreases more when she watches loud videos during our videochat sessions, I'm thinking the input level is auto-adjusting itself to the increase in noise level or something.
    I've googled and search the discussion forums to no avail.
    If anyone knows how to stop this auto-adjusting thing from happening, I'm all ears.

    Hi,
    I have seen a couple of threads on this now.
    The iChat 4 "Fix" does not seem to work.
    Deleting the other .plist to do with Audio in that Audio folder in Snow Leopard also doe not help.
    I have only seen it posted about internal mic on iMacs and laptops.
    However I do not suffer from it myself.
    I have tried changing an Audio setting and comparing the Date Modified column items to see if anything gets changed.
    The SystemPreferences.plist in my Home Folder list that I opened the Sound preferences but not the settings.
    None of the Audio .plists are showing any change. (in Hard Drive/Library/Preferences)
    At the moment I am mystified as to where any setting is stored.

  • Input level meter not working in multitrack

    Wanted to see if anyone could help with this problem.  This problem has persisted in 5.5 and now 6.  My input levels work fine in wave editor but not in multitrack.  When I try to right click it's greyed out.  Im a vo artist so my setup is pretty straight forward.
    I'm going from my Shure ksm 32 mic to an Art voice channel preamp which then goes via usb to my Macbook Pro.  I record in mono...my input is the codex for my mic and my output is default because im listening thru my macs output on my headphones.  The small signal meter in the track works but not the big one I use to monitor my level.  As I stated when I bring into waveform it works fine.  What's annoying is that it worked for like 5 minutes but I can not get it to work now to save my life.  I've tried switching up the inputs and outputs but nothing helps.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

    I use a PC not Mac so can't be sure things work the same, but try hitting the "Monitor Input" (the capital I button) in the track control area at the lest hand end of the track.  On mine this switches the big main meters to monitor the input to any track(s) set this way.

  • Setting input level when recording

    Is there a way to set the input level in Audition when recording? I can't seem to find it if it's there.
    Here's the setup: Audition is installed on a new Dell Vostro (plenty of RAM and speed) with an M-Audio Delta 1010 LT card. The input is coming directly from a broadcast console at a radio station. Audition is used to record incoming phone calls along with the DJ's mic for playback later: DJ mic on left channel, incoming call on right channel.
    Broadcast consoles are different beasts from recording consoles. The input channels of a broadcast console do not have variable/selectable pads or gain... so the audio signal is fairly hot.
    The 1010 LT card has a "control panel mixer" but it seems to have no affect whatsoever on the input level. As a result, the signal clips when it's recorded into Audition.
    So... is there a way to set the input level in Audition when recording?

    If you are using a soundcard with input from pro console you need one that accepts pro levels I'm afraid! You will need to attenuate the input to the Delta 1010 by some external means like inline 10 - 14dB attenuators for instance.

  • Can you use applescript to access the volume setting "input level" in system preferences?

    I want to make a script that adjusts the output volume of my mac based on the volume that the mic hears. I am not very good with applescript, but I do know how to control the volume. I was wondering if there was a command that retrieved the input level from the mic as it is show in the sound preferences in the system preferences window. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Does the following script do what you are asking for?
    get volume settings
    set theInput to input volume of result

  • How to hide the columns at the end user level thru personalization

    Hi all
    how I can hide the columns that are displayed on the portal. Any personalize option for the end user? Any righ click or some thing?
    I am looking at hiding columns not while developing the iViews / Pages, But in the browsers as the end user.
    i can hide the columns what ever i want while creating the iViews for MDM data. but we cant provide the content administrator role to the end user for hiding the columns what ever they want. they want to hide the columns thru pesonalization option at the end user level.
    Can you please let me know whether we can able to hide the columns at the end user level thru personalization ?? is it posible with standard iViews??
    Regards
    Sunil

    Hi Sunil,
    I understood your requirement properly and seems valid and I tried this at my end but i didnt get the solution. Field list is not visible in Personalize option. I dont think it is possible with MDM standard iViews.
    I was thinking an alternative is if some how we manage to give the permissions to end user only on Result Set iView but if it would be possible it will not be a good design.
    Lets wait for some inputs from others.

  • Mic input sound port not working.....

    Any thoughts?

    Hi. Well - it's not actually a mic input port, it's line level.
    The signal level from simple microphones is often too low for the the 'line' level analogue audio-in port on the G5.
    The solution is to use either a self-powered microphone, a pre-amplifier or, possibly the most useful and flexible (and most popular) - a USB audio interface such as the 'iMic'

  • Input level resets every time using FaceTime

    Hi.
    I recently added a webcam to my Mac Mini to use with FaceTime.  (It's an IceCam 2).  Works fine for my needs, except every time I connect with Facetime, the input level gets reset to 0.  I'm able to change it back via system preferences, but is there some reason that it would be doing this?  I assume it's when Facetime takes control over the mice input.
    Two devices are listed under input, Line In, and the USB Ice Cam. Is there any way to get the input level to stick?
    Thanks!

    To clarify: I'm using Windows 7 on an HP Pavillion m7 notebook.
