  • [SOLVED] No sound on speakers only on Headphones

    Hi everyone,
I have searched a lot for this problem, but with no conclusions.. I use my arch linux instalation with Gnome3 and Pulseaudio. I never had this problem with gnome2 and alsa. At work I only use headphones, so I boot the pc with the headphones already connected (maybe an error occured here...), today I was trying to listen to music without the headphones but impossible....
I have always checked alsamixer (all the channels are in max volume), i had already checked the selected card and the selected output (Analog Speaker, even with analog Output or Analog Headphone it doesn't work)...
I've already have this issue one time, and I solved i don't really remember who...

1 - remove all the files in ~/.pulse/ (or make a backup)
2 - remove alsa from the daemon (in rc.conf)
3 - remove the alsa configuration file /var/lib/alsa/asound.state
Then in the volume controler select Analog Speaker, and reboot.

  • IPad 3 no sound speakers only on headphones. HELP!

    Hello everyone!
Please help me, I have an iPad 3, that I bought for my boyfriend on june 2012, after over a year of use, everything had worked perfectly till' now. The iPad started to have problems with sound through speakers, every time it were less and less what you can hear, and then we started using headphone to hear better. Suddendly the sound went out, and now we have NO SOUND on speakers, only on headphones, BTW the microphone works!
We have tried everything, nothing makes the sound come back.
    I have tried the following:
    System restore
iPad reset (soft reset, hold home and lock buttons for about 15 seconds till apple comes up)
    Clean the headphone jack
Clean the charger cable and connector
Change the side switch from screen rotation to mute and viceversa
Use control center to mute / unmute
Change volume control to buttons and viceversa
    Reset all settings
    Erase all content and settings
Use of Assistive touch to manually turn up volume, unmute and mute, etc...
The sound comes only from headphones, and works perfectly with them, we have sound on games, notifications, music and everything else, it's just that sound doesn't come out from speakers.
The problem started since september, when the iOS 7 update was done.
But it got worse over the 7.0.4 update...
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Pleaseeee help!

Were you ever able to resolve this? I have this issue as well. Have not done a restore, but have cleaned connecter and headphone jack. No success.

  • Suddenly no sound from speakers and only from headphones

    Hello,
    I have a HP 8440p VQ664ET#ABU Elitebook laptop running Windows7 64bit pro.
Since today I'm experiencing the following problem:
    1) no sound is heard through speakers when headphones are disconnected.
    2) If I connect the headphones, the sounds are heard correctly through them: this is the expected behavior
I don't think it's a speakers hardware problem because I can make the speakers play sounds for one or two seconds like this: while a sound is being played, such as music file for instance, if I move up and down the headset volume cursor (regardless if headphones are connected or not) I can hear the played sound through the laptop speakers for a few seconds, after which the speakers mute again.
    So to summarize:
    1) Headphones disconnected: no sound from speakers
    2) Headphones connected: sound from headphones
I rebooted, suspended and restored without any luck so far.
I'm under the impression that there might be a problem with the headphone jack: it is like the laptop always thinks that the headphones are connected and therefore cuts the output to the speakers.
    Any clues?
    Thanks
    Sergio

Try installing the sound drivers from the following weblink:

  • No Sound From Headphone Jack, Only Internal Speakers working in Macbook Pro A1278

Hello, the internal speakers of Macbook Pro A1278 OSX 10.7.5 are working perfectly, but no sound from headphones or external speakers when plugged in. Headphones/speakers recognized when plugged in, shown by System Preferences/Sound, and since the sound stops from internal speakers when headphones/speakers are plugged in. No red light seen coming from headphone jack, as I read in other posts. The problem began after a cable was connected between computer and stereo system. Maybe overloaded the sound card and burned out a connection? Wondering if you think that the sound card needs to be replaced or is there another solution possible? Thank you.

    Hello JohnBoarkman,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you hear no sound from your accessory when you connect to your headphone jack. My first troubleshooting suggestion for this situation would be resetting the NVRAM on your Mac. Please use the instructions in the attached article to complete this process and let me know if the issue continues.

  • Low and unclear sound from headphone HP Pavilion G6 2228tu

laptop hp pavillion g6 2228TU  OS windows 8 pro 64 bit
every thing was working fine.. but from last 2-3 days i faced a problem of low and cracking sound from headphone ..
laptop speraker are working fine .. but when I connect headphone to audio port .. sounds comes out to be very low and unclear.
I tried headphone with my desktop and mobile but it was working fine.
I called HP custmor support.. they gave a link of sound driver.. i updated sound driver but no solution comes out..

    Hello Deepak-Kumar,
You’re having a problem with the sound not be very loud.
Go to device manager and uninstall the IDT audio.
    Do not restart the computer.
Now install the updated sound driver.
Since it has not been to long since the problem started, you can run a system restore.
This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly without affecting your personal files.
Here is a link on how to do a restore.
Let me know how everything goes.
    Have a good day.

If you getting sound from the external speakers....are we talking the ones on the laptop?
Means you still have the onboard sound turned on at a guess.

  • My satellite L675D-S7015 all of a sudden, no sound from HDMI

I have a satellite L675D-S7015.  It came with HDMI out, blu-ray player and all the bells and whistles. Up till a week ago the only thing I had to do to it was replace the screen after my friends kid broke it. But last week, I lost all sound to my receive. Now I have checked everything I can...made sure it was set to default....in the sound icon and by going through the realtek HD audio mgr. Made sure nothing was muted and all that good stuff. I then went into my device mgr...only to see that my ati HD HDMI driver had been replaced by some generic HDMI sound driver. I've uninstalled this several times and reinstalled the Realtek driver...only to have it replaced again.  Is there a way to stop this?  or what do i need to do to fix it?  the generic HMDI driver will play sound, but I have no control over its settings it seems.  And also...I thought that HDMI was more than just stereo?  but the realtek HDMI settings, even when I have the box checked for it to allow true dolby d and dts, it doesnt give me any other optin in setup other than a stereo one?  am I missing something?

I found this on the Microsoft websiite. (I am assuming you are running a Windows 7 machine)
Windows 7 auto update overwriting Realtek audio drivers on startup in Windows 7
And here is another thread in our forums stating the same issue.

  • Satellite C55-A5300 64 bit Laptop Lousy Sound From Headphones

Purchased a Satellite C55-A5300 64 bit Laptop from Best Buy.Speakers work great, headphone sounds LOUSY.Tried 3 different headphones, then went back to Best Buy and tried headphones on floor model.Still lousy. It's not the headphones, or the jack.Downloaded updates for Windows 8.0 (but not 8.1).Downloaded relevent driver updates from Toshiba website. No improvement. The headphones icon does not even show up in the sound tab/Control Panel,or in the RealTek assistant software but the Speaker icon does.Going back to generic RealTek driver from RealTek website.Restarting my computer now.

I went back to Best Buy and tested headphones on the floor model of the computer I purchased. It has the exact same problem-LOUSY headphone sound.I can't believe Toshiba put out bad hardware-it has to be the RealTek driver, which is specific for this Toshiba laptop.I actually downloaded and installed the generic driver from the RealTek website, and suddenly the RealTek card was MISSING in the Device Manager list.So I reinstalled the Toshiba driver, and I'm back to square one.

Only one of the jacks is for sound ouput. Take a close look and notice that one has an icon of a microphone and the otheris an icon of headphones. You will only get sound output if you connect the headphone (they usually have icons as well) 35mm plug to the proper jack on the notebook. Sound normally switches automatically from the speakers to the headphones when connected unless changes have been made to the Sound settings in Control panel.
You should try the Microsoft Fixit center for the automated sound fixit utility.

  • No sound from headphone port in 15" macbook pro mid 2012

    Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem.  I didn't use my headphone port for a long time and then when I did I used a non-Apple headphone and when I got no sound I thought it because it was b/c of this.  So when I used an Apple headphone recently I found I had the same problem.  I am wondering if there is a fix out there or if it is something inherent and I need to get it repaired.  I get sound from the built in speakers just not from the headphone jack.  Much thanks in advance for any advice.

    Try a PRAM reset:

Have you tested different music players and headphones?
Im not sure but maybe you can also set different sound outputs in players.
Furthermore I would make a sound driver update.
Visit the Toshiba European website and search for an update:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
And make sure that all sound settings are really correct.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi  PhiPsiVol354
corrupted CMOS occurs when there is strange problem happen to laptop
Not necessary that corrupted CMOS prevent laptop from booting , may laptop boot successfully but CMOS not recognize the component of your laptop like sound card or video card or any other part specification .
so you need to load default BIOS setting to CMOS , but it fails to load default BIOS because corrupted CMOS needs to be cleared first before loading default BIOS.
this work (clear CMOS) is done manually by connect jumbers together inside laptop motherbaord
    OR
By using software like HIREN BOOT CD ( this is famous Repair cd ).
    follow this steps:
1-  Search internet to find and download (HIREN BOOT CD) cd image. or ask any friend may he has that cd
       ( prefered to choice v.9.7 or v.10)
2- If you download (HIREN BOOT CD) from internet ,Burn that cd image to cd with low writing speed.
3-Insert that cd into cd driver ,at laptop startup press F12 to boot from cd .
    4-Menu appear , show:
       -boot from hard drive
       -boot from cd
       -load mini windows xp
select second option ( boot from cd)
5-another menu shows with numbers browse to find (BIOS/CMOS TOOLS)
enter that section you will find many tools select from them (KILLCMOS).
6-Run (KILLCMOS) tool , it will show confirmation message ( ARE YOU SURE WANT TO CLEAR CMOS),press arrow button to select (YES) , after clear cmos done , press ESC button to exit ,then press (ALT+CTRL+DEL) to reboot system , and  immediately enter to BIOS setting by press F2 .
7-Load default setting by press (F9) and save change and exit (F10).
8- the system restart and enter to windows .
9- If process failed to solve the problem , Repeat it again.
    Good luck
I hope this will solve your  problem.

  • No sound from headphone jack -- here's what I've tried -- now Genius bar?

    Hi all,
Some time ago the headphone jack on my MacBook decided to stop putting out sound. I've searched a bunch of forums looking for clues but no dice yet. I've looked into a bunch of things trying to diagnose and fix this problem, which I'll summarize below:
In System Preferences > Sound the Output toggles between Headphones and Internal Speakers when I plug in and unplug the headphones, so I know the jack is responding. The mute button is not selected and volumes are up.
In Audio MIDI Setup > Properties for Built-in Output > Source: Headphones, volume sliders for 1 and 2 are up and not muted. (M is greyed and all the way down but I understand this is for mono.)
I deleted these files and rebooted:
    com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
    com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist
Now here's the crazy part -- my girlfriend has reported the headphones have worked recently with DVD Player. Earlier today it was working with DVD Player only to go out after hitting pause. I quit and relaunched DVD Player and they started working again. Hit pause and they died again; now after several relaunches nothing's happening.
So my next step is probably to visit the "Genius Bar" at the Apple Store. Is there anything else I can try that I've not thought of? I've seen a number of forum posts on this problem, so it sounds like I'm not the only one this has happened to.
    Thanks for your help.

Took this in to a repair shop and they ended up having to replace the logic board. Thankfully it was still under Apple Care.
