Suddenly outgoing mail server not working!

Out of nowhere, I am all of a sudden having problems with my outgoing mail servers. Most of my email accounts are through AOL, so based on which screen name I am emailing from, the outgoing server as always been smtp.aol.com:username. But lately, when sending mail, I get the drop down "try a different outgoing mail server warning. My internet service is through Comcast, so if I change the outgoing mail server to smtp.comcast.com, the mail will send. But why has this problem popped up? Did Comcast change something? AOL? Thanks for any help anyone has!

I have got a similar problem. Mail has never worked properly - I can receive emails but not send them, Although the data for the smtp-server is absolutely correct and so is all rest password etc. - I've also tried other ports but they didn't work either. It can't be my computer or some firewall because Entourage, the microsoft mail-programme works perfectly well. After having had constant trouble with my PC, I bought this mac 2 months ago - and now I'm having more problems. Is there anyone who can give me a hint of what to do? Thanks.

Ask your carrier to send you the settings over wifi and then install them that way.
I'm on giffgaff and I used the giffgaff app from the store to sort this out.
Overall though I must say Apple has let itself down on this as why isn't something written in the ios script that keeps the original settings??
Very Poor indeed and I held off using Apple products for years for this very reason!!

  • Me outgoing mail server not working from iPhone / Reply to email address

Hi, I have MM sent up on my iPhone and Mac, the SMTP outgoing mail server does not work from the iPhone but does from the Mac, to get around this I changed the outgoing server on the iPhone to my optusnet outgoing server, that has been working fine, the problem I have is if someone reply's to a email from the phone it gets bounced back becuase the reply to email address for me is @mac.com not from @me.com
I have tried to change the reply to email address in the phone but it only allows you to change the name not the @mac.com
I have only ever had a Me account not a .Mac account so I dont know why its locked to @mac

I deleted the MM account on the phone and reinstalled it again. Now it is working.

  • Adelphia outgoing mail server not working

I have been trying for the last week or so to get my adelphia mail to send from Mail. I can receive mail no problem, but the outgoing mail server does not work. I have the settings as such:
    outgoing server: mail.adelphia.net
server port: 587 (also tried 25)
    SSL: off
    Password: none
The error that I get is that port 587 times out. When I switch it to port 25 I get "This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail Preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator."
I made sure my password is correct in keychain as well.
When I run a tracer route to find the ISP I get " gig2-1.clmascspv-rtr1.sc.rr.com, cable6-cha.edge.aol.com, son4-1-2.rlghncrdc-rtr3.nc.rr.com " as #2, 3, 4. I have tried to use these servers, but with no success.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
I get 100% success pinging mail.adelphia.net, and if at your home venue where Adelphia is your ISP, then I think no separate Authentication is required. Port 25 would be the proper port. However, if you are not at home, and the provider of internet connection limits you to using only authenticated SMTP then you would not able to use mail.adelphia.net as the Outgoing Server.
Are you at the venue where Adelphia is the ISP?

  • Suddenly, outgoing mail is not working

    Hi,
I've had the iPhone for 3 months now, and it's worked as advertised. Very glad. I have one email account set up on the phone - one which uses a POP server. Again, for the most part it's worked very well (every so often, when trying to send an email, I'd get a message saying "Message could not be delivered because server refused connection," but after sending again, the message would go through with no problems).
However, today every single email I've sent has got stuck in my Outbox. Sometimes I get the "message could not be delivered" message, sometimes I don't even get that. Emails are simply not going out.
I checked to make sure it wasn't my POP server that was the culprit, but I can send and receive emails from the email account in question when using the Mail app on my Mac Pro, or the webmail interface. So I'm fairly certain it's not the POP server.
I've also tried to send the email (from the iPhone) with wifi turned on and off, but I get the same results...or lack thereof.
I haven't changed any of the settings on my iPhone's email account, so that's also not the cause.
Any ideas? I've got mails piling up on my outbox and don't know what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Mr. Sparkle

Thank you very much! That seems to have done the trick.
A friend of mine had a similar thing happen to him - hopefully, Apple can take care of this on a firmware update or some such.
    again, thanks.

  • Outgoing mail is not working on the Macbook Pro

    Hey
I am using the mail client to read my gmail mails in my Macbook Pro. Incoming and outgoing emails were working fine and all of a sudden for the last 2 days my outgoing mails are not working and i get this error" the sender address blah blah.com was rejected by the server".
I reentered my cred in the pref pane and it still does not work. I am able to send mails fine using the browser. Incoming mails is fine is fine on the client.
Any idea what is causing this error?
    Thanks

Mac Mini, MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I'm not sure why this worked fine for a period of time but most, if not all ISPs use for connecting to the internet block the use of SMTP servers outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP) on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
    Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this doesn't work, you need to add your ISP's SMTP server to mail and select this SMTP server to send mail with your gmail account which is invisible to all recipients.

  • Mail 2.1.3 outgoing mail server not recognized

I am running Mail 2.1.3 (OS 10.4.11) on an old power book. I use the outgoing mail server "smtp.me.com:name" . Each time Mail is restarted, sending an email results in the error message "Cannot verify SSL server...". Hitting Continue  lets the message be sent. Using the prescribed solution: ((1) show certificate (2) move certificate to desk top (3) double click and choose X509anchor) has no effect.  Changing the Port number e.g. from 25 to 587, also has no effect. Is there a solution to this problem, or is there something wrong with "smtp.me.com"?

I did the suggested set-up, but no joy. The result was as before:
There is no option "SMTP Authentification required" What I see is
Hitting Continue still works, but clearly there is still something wrong. Do you have any other suggestions?

  • Mail server not working after upgrade

After a few hours, my server finally came back up however mail is not working.
In the /var/log/mail.log I see many error  messages related to the same thing from Postfix whenever an inbound mail is recieved.
    May 24 06:26:22 my.server.com postfix/postscreen[25712]: CONNECT from [62.13.138.73]:64283 to [192.168.0.3]:25

    May 24 06:26:23 my.server.com postfix/master[54]: warning: process /usr/libexec/postfix/postscreen pid 25712 exit status 1
    Help!

I'd guess that the postscreen database is missing or corrupt.
please issue the following Terminal.app commands:
    postconf -n -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/ | grep -i postscreen
    postconf -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/ | grep -i postscreen
and anonymize the output if and as desired.   If you anonymize, please consistenty replace the domain portion of your URL(s) to example.com, example.net and/or example.org (these are RFC-reserved bogus domains) and replace the server's host name to something else if that's more sensitive than "mail" or "www" or "server" — consistency in these changes is important — and alter any IP addresses included (other than 127.0.0.1 / localhost) to 10.20.30.40 (or some other private IP address — again, consistency in these changes is important — and then post that output here.
Before making any changes, get a complete system backup or two, on an external disk.  That's your path back if something here goes badly wrong, weird or otherwise untoward.
Once there are complete backups and entirely as a test / guess / experiment, I'd look to rename an existing postscreen database out of the way and see if a new cache database gets created, and would also check the file ownerships and protections of the files in that area.
    $ sudo ls -ale@ /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mta/
    Password:
    total 48
    drwxr-x---   5 _postfix  mail     170 Jan 30 15:20 .
    drwxr-xr-x  13 root      wheel    442 Jan 28 10:57 ..
    -rw-------   1 _postfix  mail      33 May  5 16:08 master.lock
    -rw-------   1 _postfix  mail   16384 May 24 08:22 postscreen_cache.db
    -rw-------   1 _postfix  mail    1024 May 24 10:04 prng_exch
    $
The two files that are most interesting in the above are the . and postscreen_cache.db files.
There is also an upgrade log around, and you'll definitely want to have a look in that — to see what (else?) went wrong here.  (Off the top, I don't recall the name of the upgrade log file.  In recent releases, it's usually something like /var/log/install.log — also check the system logs for "upgrade" messages.)

  • Server App: Outgoing Mail Relay not working

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up Outgoing Mail Relay on my Mountain Lion Server, but I always get bounced emails:
    Oct  1 04:33:34 my.server.private postfix/smtp[9582]: C855DCE700D: to=<[email protected]>, relay=mx2.sub5.homie.mail.dreamhost.com[208.113.200.128]:25, delay=0.91, delays=0/0.02/0.65/0.24, dsn=5.7.1, status=bounced (host mx2.sub5.homie.mail.dreamhost.com[208.113.200.128] said: 554 5.7.1 Service unavailable; Client host [myIP] blocked using zen.dnsbl; http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=myIP (in reply to RCPT TO command))
If I use in the SMTP servers list of Mail app, the exact same account credentials, the email is been delivered only when using SSL. So, I tried adding :465 and :587 to the ougoing relay server in the Server app (Relay outgoing mail throught ISP), but I get the following error and the message stays queued:
    Oct  1 04:13:41 my.server.private postfix/smtp[8920]: connect to mx2.sub5.homie.mail.dreamhost.com[208.113.200.128]:587: Connection refused

It seems I'm missing something. I want to use smtp account to send all the email coming from my Mac OS X Server, but it looks like I'm doing something wrong or the Server App doesnt work the same way Mail App does when connecting to a SMTP server.
    Any comments?

    Let me add....
Mail app is connecting and sending the emails correctly with the same credentials but using SSL through port 25:

I would like to force Server App to do a SSL connection to port 25 of the specified relay server, but not sure how to do this. If I don't manage to do SSL on port 25, then, my relay server will bounce the emails...

  • Outgoing mail server will work on Iphone but not Mail on Macbook

My POP account will send mail on my iphone no problem, but on the mail program on my macbook it times out. All the account information is identical. The mail program keeps telling the server does not support port 995, but on the Iphone it does. I have tried changing the port but it still won't work. Suggestions please!

misilulu, outgoing mail uses the SMTP protocol on ports, 25, 587 (for submission only) and, in the case of SMTPS, port 465 (rarely used and deprecated).
The POP is used for incoming mail on ports 110 or, in the case of POP over SSL, 993.
If all the settings between your iPhone and your MacBook are the same and you are having problems sending outgoing email on your MacBook it is most likely because you are using the wrong port. If you are using port 25 then it is most likely that your ISP is blocking that port for all mail servers except their own. If that is the case try the mail submission port 587. If that doesn't work then try 465 as a last resort.
