  • Suddenly I cannot burn DVD on my Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D

Hi, bought 100 DVD's of a brand I always used and suddenly I cannot burn these DVD's. Tried it with the Mac utility, Disk utility and Roxio Toast Titanium 10. No success. These DVD's do burn on myMacBook Pro running under the same MacOSX 10.6.8.
Re-installed the OS, ran Applejack to repair any errors, but no success. Phoned Mac in Holland, no idea. What could be the cause and how do I repair it. I have 2 SuperDrives and both exhibit the same behaviour. Pioneer has several Firmupdates but only for PC, not for Mac.
    Regards,
    arnold

Later (higher speed) DVD-Rs can require the latest firmware update in older drives to burn successfully.   I believe the DVR-112D is up to v.1.28: look here:

Even if there's only a "PC" updater, you still need to do the update.  Easiest way - temporarily install the drive in an external USB case, and connect it to a PC, and run the update from there. A pain, but necessary.

  • HT3209 In other words, I cannot download a movie, then burn it to DVD for play thru a DVD player to my non-Apple TV - correct?

Am I correct to assume that I cannot burn a downloaded movie to DVD?  I do not have any Apple products.

You can only copy it to a DVD for backup purposes, it won't play on a DVD player.

  • W5x0 cannot burn dual layer DVDs

I bought a W510 as a host for a scanner in late 2010.  My T60p was having fan problems and I liked the W510 so much that I bought a W520.  Originally I was going to use the W520 for the scanner/photo processing but frankly the monitor on the W510 tunes up a little better so I'm staying.
I've been trying, with no luck whatsoever, to burn dual layer DVDs.  The W520 came with Corel DVD software that does not have verify as an opction (I can't believe it but it appears to be true).  I use the W510 for most of it and it has the old tried and true Roxio.   I installed the Roxio on the W520 so they are equal.
The two systems came with different DVD writers.  The W510 MAT**bleep**A DVD-RAM UJ8A0A and the W520 a HL-DL-ST DVDRAM GT30N.  Neither drive in neither system can works.
I can write about 1 of 10 discs on either system/drive (I've made a lot of coasters over the past month).
At first I thought it was related to the Memorex media.  Last week before I went out of town I got some other vendors, and started with the Kodak discs but I'm getting hockey pucks at the same failure rate as Memorex, so I conclude the media is not the root cause.
I also have an external USB drive, Lite On  with a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GE24LU20 drive in it that also will not work.   The external drive says is it supports up to 8x write speed, but rarely gets above 3-4, but it still makes coasters.
I've tried limiting the write speed to 2.4x but it still makes coasters.
I can't believe with a 2 host, 2 drive matrix that there is a drive or system failure involved.  There just has to be something else going on.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Tony

Another fact set. On the failures, 40% of them fail during the write, another 40% fail during the verify pass with a compare error, and the remaining 20% cannot be read after the burn.
On my old system the reflectivity of the disc after writing was uniform. On the write failures you can see big gaps in the write band. Sometimes it fails in the first few minutes (before the capacity consumed would switch to the second layer).
For others even when successful the reflectivity of the disc almost makes it look like the write portion didn't finish the write pad out to finish the disc, and I think some of the read errors are occurring in layer 1 past the transition region. The Roxio software has the option to finish the disc but the Corel burn.now and the included windows DVD ISO burner do not.
Writing dual layer has never worked on my W510 but my T60p didn't have troubles. What I don't know is whether the difference is T60 to W5x0 or Windows XP to Windows 7.
    Again, any suggestions welcome.

  • Yes I am an idiot---How to burn content to DVD for TV viewing?

I am sure this has been answered somewhere, but I haven't had any luck finding it. I need idiot-proof step-by-step instructions, if possible.
I am trying to put content from my series 2 TiVo onto DVDs for children's viewing on Sony DVD players in the family room. I have scoured the TiVo and TiVo Community forums but they are too abstruse and technical for me. Given the extremely poor reviews of Popcorn, Toast, Roxio, and Sonic (the current TivoToGo for the Mac solution) I don't want to spend $ and wasted effort.
I have used TiVo Decode Manager to convert TiVo content to MP4 (which works great ONLY on the Mac or iPod). I have used Living Room widget to convert TiVo content to MPEG (which is unreadable on the Mac without buying a Quicktime MP-2 component).
I have burned a Maxell DVD-R using iDVD (it didn't see the MPEG files, but I got them on the DVD using the Burn Folder) which works great on multiple Macs IF run as a Quicktime file or in iTunes. OS X DVD Player doesn't see anything (it asks for Video_TS and Audio_TS files, which aren't there), nor do any Sony DVD players see a disc at all. Please note that I have NO trouble getting TiVo connected to my Mac or transferring content to my Mac.
So, very simple question: I want to burn MP4 or MPEG content that is readable by Sony DVD players. I cannot figure out iDVD to do this. Or do I have to buy Popcorn or Toast?

I want to burn MP4 or MPEG content that is readable by Sony DVD players. I cannot figure out iDVD to do this.
Nope, iDvd won't do this (at least not directly). Toast/Popcorn are better options for what you wish to do.

  • Downloaded latest update, now I cannot burn projects to dvd's!!! I would have never updated if I knew I would loose that capability.

I have a MacBook Pro  10.9.3 version.(Imovie version10.0.3)  I just upgraded my computer now I cannot save my project to a dvd.  I have spent hours trying to finda a way. I have read that others are having this same problem.  I have tried to follow what they suggest only to find that when I go to the file my files do not use the same wording.  That is why I as putting the kind of computer I have in this message in case that makes a difference.  For the record I do have Idvd, but it will not open my project.  It only opens those I already have completed.  Can ANYONE help me.

I am having the same problem...but in my case I am trying to create an avchc dvd  (a high definition format play able in Blu-ray players using standard dvds). (Still struggling in fact...)
If  you want to create a simple dvd of the MPEG-4 "project" you created in imovie.....have you tried letting "finder" burn the DVD for you?
Go to: finder/go/computer/mac hard drive/users/macbook/movies in movie library......when you find your library (your path may be different than above)....highlight it, double click it, click "show package contents".....find your project...double click it....select "burn to disc".
Good luck. Its not as simple as it apparently was before Apple discontinued idvd
    Best wishes

  • Burning a data DVD for iTunes?!

When i try to burn a data DVD of all of my songs from iTunes it goes through all of the steps but then when it gets to the the burn stage I get an error message that says "the attempt to burn a disk failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media". I have gotten the message the vast majority of the the time but it has managed to burn 3 DVDs in a row the weird thing is that i didn't change any of the settings or anything and now it won't burn it anymore and i just keep getting this message. Does anyone know what this means or what I need to do? Please Help!!!

Are you trying to backup your library? If so a much much easier way to do it is to buy or put together an external hard drive, preferably one that can hook up via Firewire and preferably larger than your internal. Then use a program like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper and make a full clone of your internal drive to the external, which would include your iTunes, and if you use a Firewire able drive, you can even boot from this clone in a pinch.
Sorry I don't have an answer to your specific question since I backup on an external hard drive and don't mess with DVDs for this sort of thing. $112 can put you into a 300GB external drive, so they are not expensive.

  • Cannot burn Apple supplied DVD-R

    I have a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-815 (CD-RW/DVD-R) and cannot burn a DVD-R 2X purchased from Apple. Any suggestions?
    I got this burn message:
    "Burning disc: "Untitled DVD"
An error occurred while burning the disc. This disc cannot be used."
The disc then ejected and I got this message:
"Burning the disc failed because this type of CD is not supported. (Error code 0x80020043)"
    Thanks,
    -i

I'm having the same problem on the Superdrive on my eMac when trying to burn a DVD.
"Burning the disc failed because this type of CD is not supported. Error code 0x8002043"
I'm using Verbatim DVD+R. I compared them with other DVDs I've burned..they are exactly the same.

  • All of a sudden I cannot burn DVD's anymore but I can still burn CD's?

I was burning a movie in popcorn and an error came up saying that the drive failed to write to disk. I am using TDK-R DVD's. Previously I had burned 25 of these same DVD's a couple of days earlier. So I tried to burn a music CD and I was successful. My next move to see if it was maybe the popcorn program was to try and burn a DVD of one of my own movies in DVD Studio Pro - it failed.
    Please help!!!!!

If your Mac is still under warranty, palpentine, then head to Apple , who will simply replace your drive.
If not, then try a cleaning disc, . DVDs need a cleaner lens than CDs because of the tighter data specs/ denser data. The first sign of a dirty lens is usually a problem with burning DVDs, then reading DVDs, before losing the capability to burn, then use CDs too, etc etc. Once this starts to surface the quicker you clean the drive the greater your chances of success.
I know many people believe that the CD and DVD reading/ burning processes are independent of each other, but, in fact they both use the same lens (as is easily seen if you ever dismantle one of these drives) , and any problems with its cleanliness almost invariably show up through problems with DVD reading and burning first.
    Cheers

  • Burn Iphoto  to dvd for backup

I what to backup my iphoto. On the top left it says Library. Under this it says Events, Photos then I have albums under this. So if I what to backup my entire Library, I would click on the Photos tab (under Events). This highlights the photo tab and shows all my photos. Then click Share.
Do I send it to IDVD or to Burn.
Will this only save my photos in random or will this save the photos and my albums. Or do I have to burn each album separately.
Will this also save my original.
I am scanning all our Family photos. I am scanning and sorting each day. If I backup my photos to DVD today. Can I use the same disk tomorrow, will the Mac read what is on the DVD and only add the new files, or will it burn the whole thing over.
When I finish all the Photos I would like to burn copies for the Family . These will be viewed on Windows PC and TVs. This I would do on IDVD? Click on the file / Share / IDVD. Or do I sill need to drag the file onto the desktop and burn from Finder.
Sorry if this is confusing( I know I am)
    Thanks for your Help

IF you use the Share -> Burn command then you will get an iPhoto Library on the DVD. When you put this disk into a Mac it will appear in the iPhoto Window and you can copy files from the disk to the Library all in the iPhoto Window. This process gets everything - Originals, albums, keywords etc.
This is of no use to folks with Windows or who want to view photos via their DVD players.
For Windows: Select the pics in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the photos to a Folder on the Desktop. Then burn that folder to disk using the Finder. This does not get your Originals. Ut simply gets a folders of files.
To make something that’s viewable on a TV then you’ll need to use the Share -> Send to iDVD option. In iDVD you can make a slideshow of the photos. This is not a back up in any way. It makes a movie from the pics.

  • Cannot burn a blank DVD+RW disk

Since I installed Mountain Lion, this is the first time I am trying to burn data to a TDK DVD+RW disk. When I put the blank disk into the computer, the Disk Utility window opens showing the SuperDrive. It has to items: 1 Choose how to erase it and 2 Click Erase. Then I have to make the choice between earasing the data on disk Quickly or Completely. Since it is a blank disk, I chose Quickly. Once this finished, nothing else happened. In fact, no disk icon appeared on the Desktop at any time.
I would hope that I would not have to erase completely every time I used a blank disk, since that takes an hour.
There is nothing in the Disk Utility Preferences that apply to the disk.
The mac will recognize a DVD+RW I created with Snow Leopard OS.
Any suggestions to help me with this problem. My warranty has run out on the computer, so I can't call Apple.

If you are using the correct format, then maybe you
do need a third party utility like Roxio Toast which
has offered multisession burning since before Disk
    Utility.
Except that Toast does not support multisession DVD -- only CD. There's an article on Roxio's support site that explains the reason for not supporting multisession DVD: there is no standard for it. All the software that can burn multisession DVDs do it in a way that is not standards-based.

  • Why is Adobe 11.0.10 suddenly saying, "Cannot save to this file name"?

I've had no issues saving fillable PDFs that I've edited up until this week. I don't know what caused the change and I've tried researching the issue. Has anybody else experienced this and found a solution?

Thanks for your quick response! I'm saving to a network drive. I just tried
replicating the issue saving to the local drive and there was no error, but
typically I save on a network drive and it wasn't an issue previously.

  • Cannot burn to DVD in iTunes 6 - unknown error occurred [261]

I'm having issues burning a playlist to DVD in iTunes 6 - it rejects the DVD and gives me an error message "The attmept to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred [261]." If I try to burn the same playlist to a CD, there is not a problem. In my "burning" preferences within iTunes, I have selected "Data CD or DVD", but when I pull the preferences up again, it only says "Data CD". I click this option again and it gives me "Data CD or DVD", but never seems to keep the "DVD" part of the option.
I have been able to burn to DVD from playlists in the past, but I believe it was before I upgraded to iTunes 6.
    Any suggestions?
HP Pavilion 6650y   Windows XP Pro

Correction: I cannot burn CDs or DVDs of playlists in iTunes 6.0.1. I have no problem burning CDs in other applications and could burn CDs prior to updating to iTunes 6.

  • Burning a MUSIC DVD Possible?

Is is possible in iTunes to burn a MUSIC DVD that will play in any DVD Player? Burning a MUSIC CD works fine but I would like to use a DVD because of the greater capacity. The only instructions I've found are how to burn a DATA DVD - for back-up I guess, and playing in some computers. I would really appreciate knowing if this is possible and, if so, how it can be done. Thank you very much.

You cannot create an audio DVD.
Many, many DVD players will play AAC and MP3 files on a data DVD.
