Suddenly unable to delete files from within the Dock

I got my iMac about 2 months ago, and I'm pretty sure I was always able to drag a file (or folder) from, say, the Downloads stack directly to the Trash without having to open Downloads in Finder.
For some reason it doesn't work any more, and I have to resort to opening the Downloads folder every time I want to delete a file. Has anyone else encountered this issue? And more importantly, does anyone know how to fix it?
EDIT: Never mind! A restart fixed the problem. Thread can be locked/removed.

  • Unable to delete files from powerpoint

I just installed MS office for iPad. I am experiencing an annoying problem with Powerpoint. When I download and open a file from OneDrive, oftentimes I am subsequently unable to delete it from within the iPad powerpoint program. I get a message that the file cannot be deleted because it is in use. I am able to delete the file from OneDrive on my computer no problem, but it remains on the iPad. Clearing the file cache from settings does not do the trick. I have to uninstall and reinstall powerpoint to get rid of the undeletable files. Am I missing something here? Thanks.

We are receiving the following error in our event log on our clustered server:
    Source: BusinessObjects_CMS
    Category: General
    Type: Warning
    Event ID: 33018

Unable to delete file from the file repository. Make sure a File Repository Server is running and registered and enabled. Details : Failed to connect to the File Repository Server output. Make sure the server is up and running.
We have verified the FRS is running and we are able to connect to it from our clustered server (Winchester2).  The security settings are set to full control for the admin group and the users have Read/Write access to the file store folders.  The errors are filling up our event logs and causing issues with the servers.  this appears to be happening each morning and the file it is trying to delete is an .xls file.
We have a ticket open with SAP Support but they are just as baffled as we are and keep sending us from one group to another and tell us they need to look at it on thier end and they will get back to us.
Has anyone had this happen on their system?

Hi Richard, did you ever get this issue resolved?  We are having a similar issue on XI R3 SP4 using NAS/CIFS shares for our File Stores.  We see this issue mainly after our servers are patched and a full environment restart is initiated.  Like you, our event logs fill up with so many error messages I cannot pinpoint exactly when the issue starts happening.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS: RDS Users are unable to delete files from their desktop

    Hello,
We are working with Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS. We also implemented User Profile Disks. This is all working fine without problems. The only issue I have is that normal users are unable to delete files from their desktop. They are getting a message:
you'll need administrator permission to delete this file, with the prompt for administrator access.
They can edit, copy, rename, cut and paste files. But they cannot delete a file from their desktop.
I checked the security permissions of the files on the desktop (for example a normal self-created PDF file) and the users are owner and have "Full Control" over the files.
I checked the file permissions and took a look under "Advanced", selecting the specific domain user and checked the "Advanced Permissions" and the user has the "Delete" option checked. So he should be able to delete the
    file.
I am guessing this is UPD related issue, or something in GPO. But I already unlinked the GPO objects, that I felt could be the source of this problem, but without results.
Could someone give me a hint on where to look? It's kinda annoying to users, that they can't delete their own files.

    Hello Bria,
What you should check first, is the NTFS permissions on the User Profile Disk to begin with. See if the user has full control over the items that are in the UPD.
Also check the GPO's that are enabled for the user and computer account. You can check that by running: gpresult /h <path>\gpresult.html
There are two GPO settings that could prevent the user from deleting his/her own items:
    User
    Configuration\\Policies\\Administrative Templates\\Windows Components\\Windows Explorer\
Hide these specified drives in My Computer
Prevent access to specified drives in My
    Computer
There might be other GPO settings, that block deleting items on the UPD, but can't think of any out of my head.
I can only think NTFS and GPO settings that might prevent the user from deleting items. In my case it was a GPO setting, that I didn't suspect.

  • Unable to open CS3 Files from within the application

    Good Afternoon
I work as IT Support for company looking after 10 ADOBE Creative Suite 3 end-users.
One of my colleagues is unable to open Illustrator or Photoshop files from within their respective applications, but she is able to open them from outside ok.
I have reinstalled ADOBE CS3 and this appeared to resolve the issue, only for it to return again a day later.
She has no other applications or processes running during her attempt to open a file from within CS3.
She will click on Open and the 'Open File' window will flash up for a split second, then the whole application will be frozen. It is as if the 'Open File' window is there, but isnt there because we cant click on it, but the application thinks it is displaying and so she can not click on anything else. The only way to close the application is to end the process under Task Manager.
While I am sitting here tearing what little amount of hair I have on my head, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Is this a Windows problem or an ADOBE problem do you think?
I look forward to any replies.
    Thank you

    Hi Bob
    Ok...
Opened illustrator but was unable to open the 'Open File' window.
Changed the screen resolution, it suddenly worked!
Changed the screen resolution back to as it was before, it also worked.
What could cause this do you think?
By simply changing the screen resolution and back again, the 'Open File' window displayed itself.
    Very bizarre!

  • Unable To Delete Files from Desktop

I have a friend whose Mac Mini "suddenly" started preventing her from deleting files from her desktop. When I tried to drag the file to the Trash, the Mini makes a sound like the file was deposited in the Trash, but the icon remains on the desktop and there is no file in the Trash. I have repaired permissions and even ran FSCK -FY from single user mode. When I logged in under a different Administrator account, it worked perfectly. So, the question is "what preference file do I need to delete?"
    TIA.

It's an ownership problem of the Trash folder, not the file you are trying to put in the Trash. Any chance this file on the Desktop may have come from Windows?
I may have misunderstood. It sounded as if you were saying there was a connection between the Trash's ownership and Windows files. Sorry.
And it doesn't fix the problem, but it will tell us if anything can be deleted in the first place.

  • Unable to Delete Files From Bridge CS4

I am trying to delete file from bridge and all the sudden I am getting the message that I dont have permisson to delete file. I have done several troubleshooting methods and nothing works. Deleted prefs, cache, checked file permisions, repaired HD permissions, reset workspace, turned off startup scripts, etc..... Anyone had this problem or have any idea what may be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Colby

Ok I can delete via bridge using a different user account. So its bridge/user
account but not sure what the solution is. Would it be best to remove/install
    a new copy of bridge?
I don't think reinstall Bridge is the solution. You might first want to try
    this:
Quit Bridge, from user library preference folder delete the Adobe bridge
plist file manual to the trash.
Then restart Bridge again with holding down option key and from menu choose
    refresh preferences.
Try again, if no luck then consider a better user check then only disk
    permissions.
You can start with the original install disk from MacOs. Restart from this
disk and start with a check and repair disk and check and repair disk
    permissions.
You also might consider an other disk utility like Disk Warrior or Disk
Tools Pro but they are not for free.
If not the solution you might consider to migrate your user to a new
    account.

  • Unable to open files from within Photoshop

Hi, I've updated to CC 2014.2.1 and I'm continuing to get this message when I attempt to open a file from within Photoshop (it started when I installed a beta versionYosemite, so I switched back to Mavericks, but it didn't help, [so many updates with Cloud, I lose track..]).  I noticed someone else with a similar problem, but from 2013. Anyway, I get this message: 'Could not complete your request because of a program error.'  I restart Photoshop, then I can open a few files, but then the errors start over.
Also, I'm not really familiar with the 'forum' means of support, but if anyone knows a solution to this beyond 'google it', which I've done, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks Jeffery Tranberry—this did the trick. BUT while an answer to my issue gave the following feedback to Adobe....
Use of COVERFLOW if EXTREMELY IMPORTANT (in Photoshop) when working fast with hundreds of images. Who the heck labels every single image asset file—and knows what that is without a visual cue? WHEN IS THIS ON THE ROADMAP TO BE FIXED?????????? UGH! MAVERICKS has been coming for MONTHS. Why was this not vetted on Adobe's end as a valuable roadmap item for its users? I would have ranked this a high item from a user experience end and fought for inclusion on the developers roadmap. What is the ETA on a real fix concerning Mavericks & Coverflow use with Photoshop?

  • Unable to delete file from trash because it's "in use" not locked.

I'm unable to delete a file from trash. I keep getting the following message: "The operation can’t be completed because the item is in use."  I've confirmed the file isn't locked and I've tried renaming it but still no luck. I'm running OSX 10.8.4. Any thoughts?

Check the 'More Like This' discussions on the right hand column.  I suspect you may find the answer there.

  • Unable to delete files from encrypted external SD Card using File Commander

I've run into some trouble trying to delete the directory com.spotify.music from my external SD Card (encrypted) after a hard reboot using the reset button next to the sim card.
I need to do this for the Spotify app to work (FC on starting it) and I'm currently unable to delete the folder and its contents from Sony provided file explorer(FC File Commander).
Is there a way to delete this app from adb or other command line tool or how should I go about this? Developer options are enabled because I'm learning to develop apps. Not particularly keen on rooting or otherwise format my SD Card but it's an option if there are no other ways to do it.
I can see the contents of my card using File Commander just fine. Spotify app is uninstalled, I tried remove cache and data before uninstall also.

    Thommo wrote:
Are you able to delete files via your Pc or are you able to remove the card from your phone and connect it to a Pc for file deletion - There is a free program called Unlocker currently on version 1.9.2 which is excellent at deleting files that don't want to be deleted - You would install the program then right click the file and choose Unlocker and then when the program starts choose delete
I guess he will not be able to move the SD card to the computer since it's encrypted and is working only with that particular device, but he should be able to access it via PC.
If you can try to uninstall Spotify from your phone. I assume Spotify is not working due to some rubbish inside it's directory, but on the other hand you can't delete the folder because it may be used by Spotify. If you uninstall app folder may be unlocked.

  • Unable to delete files from my startup disk; can move to trash and delete them there, but cannot delete from startup disk?

I constantly get a warning message that my startup disk is full and I need to remove/back up files from it.  I have already backed up the files from my "All Documents" folder, which is on the left side of the menu in my startup disk.  The problem is, I cannot delete those same files from the "All Documents" folder on my startup disk.  It will let me move them to the trash, which I can empty, but they still do not delete from the "All Documents" folder.  Does anyone know why?

Drag the files you want to delete (this applies to applications too) from their current location to the Trashcan icon in the dock. The trash will appear full. Hold down the control key and click on the Trashcan and select "Empty Trash" from the pop-up menu.
Alternatives to the control-click method: double-click on the Trashcan and click the "Empty" button in the upper right corner of the window that comes up; right-click on the Trashcan (only works if you have right-click enabled); press shift-command-delete; select "Emtpy trash..." from the Finder menu.

    Hi,
To check if there is cache issue, please access the url in another PC to see if the issue persists. You could also open style library in SharePoint designer to double confirm it.
In addition, if you click the ellipsis of the image item, there will be a preview panel to show the picture, is it the newly upload one?

  • Unable to delete files from Time Capsule disk

A while back I copied my user folder from my iMac on to my Time Capsule disk, which is mounted as a drive on my iMac's desktop. I now want to delete that copy. After some struggling with locked files I have managed to get it so that all I have left is a small hierarchy of folders containing no files. When I try to delete any of these folders, though, I get the error message: "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items." Info says that I have read & write privileges to every folder in the hierachy.
Can anyone suggest a way that I can get rid of these few remaining folders? They are really bugging me!

Some of you are going to love this!!
Ok, after talking with someone at Apple, I was reminded of a simple Unix Command to do the job, even on Time Capsule. Here's what worked for me:
Time Capsule is connected to my Mac, via an Ethernet cable-- I don't know if this matters or not, maybe it will work over the wireless connection too, let me know!
You'll need to pull up Terminal in Applications > Utilities. It's a dangerous tool that Unix and Linux people use with skill all the time, but you have to be careful, cause it will cause permanent changes-- that is what I want here, of course. Just be extremely careful, ok? You have been warned.
    type "cd /Volumes"
    press Return
Now you're in the "Volumes" folder
type "ls" (as in the letter L)
    press Return
You should see your Time Capsule folder (whatever you named it)-- type "cd " and that particular name
Navigate till you can type "ls" and you can see the folder you are trying to delete.
Then, the command that worked for me is this:
(Please double check that "myFolderToDelete" is indeed the one that you want to delete!)
    sudo rm -rfd myFolderIWantToDelete
After a few seconds for the hard drive in the time capsule to spin up, it worked! Yea!
In fact, to be safe, if I were you, I would even go into Finder first and try to rename that folder, call it "myFolderToDelete" !!!
Why didn't I try this before? I've used Terminal, I should have thought of it before! bad nerd!
But the important thing is, problem solved .
A few things to note is that I was trying to delete a folder full of "Locked" files. If I wanted to delete several locked files that are not currently in a folder, I could make a new folder, and drag those files into it... now you have a folder you can delete. Just rename it "toBeDeleted" or something like that.
Finally, note that I am not currently using Time Machine (the automated backup program) with this Time Capsule, so I don't know if it will delete the Time Machine backup -- haven't tried that yet.
    Good Luck!
