Suddenly under FF24 my open tabs are grey

I have been using FF from the beginning. Today 10/09 days after the update to FF24 I notice that the tabs that are not open are grey, there were never before.

  • My open tabs are not being restored/remembered after closing

    Hi,
I have my settings set to "Show windows and tabs from last time", however for some reason its not working anymore. Whenever I close my tabs, Firefox warns me that I'm closing multiple tabs and when I reopen Firefox, I only get my homepage.
In the options menu, I've set the options to be "Show windows and tabs from last time" and in the Privacy setting, I have "Firefox will remember history", so I don't think its my settings.
I saw a thread about "browser.sessionstore* prefs" on a previous page that seemed to work for them, but all of my prefs seem to already be set to default (which is what was recommended), so I'm not sure what I should do there? I'm not tech savvy, so I dont feel comfortable mucking around with those settings when I dont really know what I'm doing, and they all seem to be set to default anyway.
Also, my 'restore previous session" and "restore recently closed tabs" are greyed out in the history section, so the only way I have to get my tabs back is to open "recently closed windows".
If anyone could please point me in the right direction to solving this it would be MUCH appreciated! I rely on this feature heavily, and am finding it really frustrating to not have easy access to my tabs from last session.
    Thank you!

When updating to version 36, if you are updating from more than two versions before, the session file structure changed in your profile. This is now in sessionstore-backups folder. However this should not affect if updating from 35.
    Are these also greyed out:
Recently Closed Tabs & Recently Closed Windows
It is greyed out "either due to:
    * your startup setting ([[Startup, home page and download settings]])
    * Firefox recovering from a crash during shutdown, or
    * a user.js file overriding your normal startup setting (your system info doesn't show the third file, so I think we can rule that out)"
For future times that this may happen, the add on: session-manager is a nice backup to have.

My open tabs are not being remembered when I close and re-open Firefox 4 even though I selected this feature in Options. Can anyone tell me why?

cannot use icloud tab option on ipad and iphone as the open tabs are not listed.

just checked everything through and this is deffinately the public beta of iCloud as it simlily doesnt come up in the  settings of ipad or iphone. However the current firmware i am using isnt an itunes download, as i have downgraded and all itunes synced apps onto both the iPad and iphone crash when i open them, is this because i have downloaded the firmware from a third party? i have treble checked that the firmware is NOT hacked and is just a host's official apple firmware, so i cannot understand why this problem is occuring?

  • How do I change to background color in the open tabs; currently grey with black text, hard to read.

In FF 4.0 can I change the background color of the open tabs. Currently it is grey with black type. A lighter background would be easier to read.
    Thanks, TJH

Download this addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/stratiform/ It allows you change the color of the tabs, plus many other options.

  • The option in Tools/Options to show my windows and tabs from last time has suddenly stopped working and all tabs are deleted when Firefox is re-opened.

For some unknown reason this option has died. I have not changed anything and checked that the setting is correct. How do i get it working again. I work across a number of tabs at a time and have now lost a session and cannot recall all the websites concerned.

You can check the browser.sessionstore.* prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page and reset user set (bold) browser.sessionstore.*prefs to the default value via the right-click context menu to make sure that Session Restore is enabled and working properly.

  • Which (of many) open tabs are using CPU?

Occassionally I have a bunch of tabs open in Safari and it jumps up in CPU usage. Sometimes it's using so much that I have to close and reopen (I gather there's a memory leak in Safari, whatever that is.)
But I often find by trial and error that there's just one tab with an animation running in the background or other annoying use of my cpu. I'd like to be able to see a list of the open pages' cpu usage, like an Activity Monitor for Safari.
Anybody know how to do such a thing?
Powerbook 15" (Al)   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   I had a Mac Plus, twenty years later I got a Powerbook. What's my next move?

You need to use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar to close Firefox with all open windows at once. Otherwise only the last closed window will be restored. If this did happen then check History > Recently Closed Windows to see if any are listed (default is 3).

  • Open tabs are not on tab strip. Have to click on List All Tabs button to find tabs. Tabs used to display on tab strip and stopped doing this. Suggestions?

Been using Firefox for years, running Windows XP. This morning when I opened pages in another tab, did not see them on tab strip. Only way to find them is to click on List All Tabs Button and it shows list. Cannot get them to display on tab strip. If I open in another window, it works, like it should. If I click on plus sign on tab strip it opens another tab, but can't see the previous ones except with List All Tabs Button. Any suggestions on how to turn tab strip back on? Thanks, jayem33

If it works in a new window then you can drags tabs from the not working window to that new window.
You can also try to close the tabs via Ctrl+W and restore the closed tabs via Shift+Ctrl+T

  • How to change the homepage for a new tab when the home page of the initial tab and subsesequently opened tab are different?

When iam using firefox i selected google as my home page. But while opening another tab in the same window(ctrl+T), I am getting babylon search as home page for it. How can i get rid of this problem?

'''''"...while opening another tab in the same window(ctrl+T), I am getting babylon search as home page for it."""
Any search toolbar and changes to search engines can take place by downloading and installing software; usually "free" software from the internet. Babylon can be downloaded and installed by itself or as a "ride-along" when installing/updating some software from the internet. Always look for an opportunity during the installation to un-check boxes that will install "ride-along" items that you do not want. Firefox installation does not include such "ride-along" items.

  • I just installed Firefox 4, and now all my open tabs are gone. Thank you Mozilla!

Did system restore and now I don't have Firefox at all...cannot open it.

If you used a remove personal settings option from Windows or Firefox, you may well have permanently lost those bookmarks.

  • Ctl-T nor the File-Open Tab are working any more. Did you kill this?

I am a heavy user of the Ctl-T function, which opens a new tab on my existing Firefox screen. It is no longer working. Also, when I select File - New Tab, that doesn't open a new tab either.
The File - New Window option works, but I don't want to have multiple Firefoxes open on my system.
I've used this feature forever, and in the last couple of weeks (didn't notice the exact time), it stopped working. Did you change something?

Try uninstalling the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and the current version of Firefox.

  • All of a sudden all of my open tabs closed. How do I get all to reopen?

I normally keep about 8 tabs open all the time. Today, as I was send a birthday greeting on Facebook, all of the tabs closed without Firefox crashing. Now I cannot get the tabs to reopen even when I close Firefox and reopen it. How can I restore what was there when this happened? I think it has something to do with Tab Groups, but I'm not sure.

Please also try this, if you haven't set new tabs: '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''S''') > '''Troubleshooting Information''' > '''Open Containing Folder''' (this opens your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder Firefox Profile Folder]) and exit Firefox. Copy the '''sessionstore.bak''' and '''sessionstore.js''' files in the opened folder to another location and right-click each of the files in turn > '''Restore previous versions'''. Look for a time corresponding to the time when the lost tabs were open and '''Restore''' those. If unsure, you can try different time points. Please note that restore may not be present on every Windows 7 OS versions.
