Suddenly VERY Slow Internet On Macbook Pro

My MacBook Pro is less than a year old, running Snow Leopard 10.6.7. A few days ago, the internet suddenly became very, VERY slow. My computer says it is receiving a full signal, and my girlfriend's computer (a Dell, I might add) is on the same wireless network and is working great. I have tried everything suggested to me when searching for the problem online: I've reset my router and modem (but again, my girlfriend's computer is working well on the very same connection and my MacBook claims to be getting a full signal), checked for software updates, emptied Safari's cache, reset Safari, disabled plug-ins, tried Chrome and Firefox (the problem persisted), scanned for a DNS changer and viruses/spyware (the scan came up clean), added open DNS servers, reset my TRAM, repeaired disk permissions and have restarted throughout this process. I cannot trace this changed internet speed to anything - I have no idea what has caused it or how to fix it. Please help!

Hi...
Try Starting up in Safe Mode
That deletes system caches that may help. A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.
Once you see the Desktop click the Apple menu icon top left corner of your screen. From the drop down menu click Restart.
If that didn't help, try uninstalling Sophos >  http://help.bol.ucla.edu/app/answers/detail/a_id/879
Then try your browsers. It could be the security software that's slowing your browsers down.
If that helps, you could try a different anti virus software such as ClamXav. It's free and Lion v10.7 compatible.

  • Windows 7 very slow on 2012 MacBook Pro?

When I first got my MacBook Pro in September 2012, I installed Windows 7 on it. I was really impresed how fast and smutch it was, but then after couple of weeks I deleted it. Now I installed it again and it got really slow. I have to wait like 5 seconds just for the Internet Explorer to open. What happened? Does the Windows get slower every time you install and delete it? Is it okay to do that or is it bad for the hard drive? By the way, its the base model MacBook Pro, Intel Core i5, 500GB hard drive, Intel HD Graphics 4000, and 4GB RAM. Thanks for help!

The windows 7 enterprise disk I was using included service pack 1. I think bootcamp didn't like that the disk was sp1. I downloaded the non service pack iso and it installed just fine. I had been using a fully updated os 10.6.7. It works now.

  • Slow internet with macbook pro retina (late2013)

The longer I'm having my new Macbook Pro Retina, the slower it gets concerning the internet.
There is sometimes no speed at all... I have to wait about half a minute to start the loading of for example an ebay site.
As I use my old Macbook Pro (late 2009) right beside the new one, I have the perfect comparison. The old one is fast as ever. Even my Iphone is much faster in our home WLAN. The new one just works and works on heavy loading site after site.
Shouldn't it be the opposite way?
    Has someone the same problems?
    Any solutions?
    Greetings from Germany,
    baldost

    1. Power cycle
Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.
         It will take a   while.
         Restart the computer.
         Start up in Safe Mode

  • Very slow Aperture on MacBook Pro 2.16 Duo

    Hi All,
This is most likely a topic that has been covered before but Ive looked and cant find the answer. Ive got a 1.5 yr old MacBook Pro 2.16 intel duo with 2GB RAM (its maximum )
I bought Aperture 2 a few months ago, and its now started to run very, very very slow. I store my referenced files on a Lacie Drive (USB 2), however the issue seems to be that when I start browsing, exporting, editing and generally moving around the program, it gets to a point when the beach ball is on spinning overload. My Mac's fan is wizzing round like mad, It sounds like the things going to take off! Im really starting to lose faith and seriously looking at lightroom, but I love the structure on aperture. I have taken my Laptop to a mac store and even they have had a look over it, and cant understand why it runs slow. Its really disappointing that if its a hardware issue I cant do anything about it, plus I easily surpass the min specs to run it. Its holding up my workflow and costing me money in delivering files to clients!
Any help what so ever would be great,
    Cheers Guys
    Matt

I'm running the same model Duo with a 120GB drive and an external LaCie. It does not support the 800 Firewire, just the 400.
Aperture runs adequately fast, although after two months I'm still learning a lot about the features. The search HUD seems a bit slow, but I do have alot of pictures.
My Aperture Library is 14GB, 13,000 files, 90% are jpegs. All picture files are referenced and take up an additional 17GB.
I found Aperture (and Parallels) choking whenever the free space on my internal drive gets down below 6-8GB. Some non-Apple forums recommend keeping at least 10GB free for working with media intensive apps like Aperture. I also find that even when I quit Aperture, it doesn't free up the temp space on the disk drive it had used. Restarting regularly recovers the 1.5GB or so that Aperture was leaving behind after quitting.
I'm slowing breaking the big project I had with 11,000 files into several smaller projects and migrating the referenced files to an external LaCie. File management, renaming files, finding duplicates, etc., is not an Aperture strong point, (Expression Media is better at file and metadata management, but has limited editing and integration features with iLife, etc.) but over all I'm satisfied with performance on the Core Duo with an external monitor attached.
    Cheers,
    Flack

  • Search on Safari is very slow on my MacBook Pro. Sometimes it doesn't even finish.

Safari doesn't seem to work on my MacBook Pro. It is really slow and never finishes. Very frustrating. Started about a week ago. Can anybody help?

Post in the Safari community for whichever os is installed on your computer.

  • Substantially Slower Internet - Two MacBook Pros on Network

I have recently acquired a MacBook Pro, running Os/x version 10.5.8, and the internet functionality is noticeably slower than other systems on the network.
Both my desktop PC (running vista) along with my roommate's MacBook Pro surf/download at high speeds, as provided by our ISP (comcast). However, this particular machine can take anywhere from 20-30 seconds to open a basic webpage that would open instantaneously on either of the other two systems. Download speeds are often 10 times slower.
Any solutions to this particular problem? I've done a bit of research on google, and found some aged inquiries that were similar, often with multiple possible "solutions", but usually applying to an older os/x.

    No.
Also, why would that slow this machine but no others were that the case? (This question is purely hypothetical. Torrents are not running)

  • Express very slow with new MacBook Pro

I have a 2.4Ghz MacBook Pro, a Mac Mini and an AirPort Express. When I connect to this network with a 1st gen Core Duo (802.11G) machine, transfer rates between computers run at typical G speeds. When I connect with the 2.4 Ghz machine, transfer rates between it and the Mini are much, much slower - less than 20% as fast as the 802.11G MBPro.
All machines have updates and show four bars of signal strength. I have no idea why the new MBPro is so dramatically slow.
    MBPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2.4 Ghz

    Safari 6

         Turn those off, if any.

  • Very slow Time Machine MacBook Pro Mid 2009

After installing Mavericks Back-up for my MacBook has become very slow. I checked firmware update as recommended by some, but that was rejected by the application provided for by Apple. Also a larger back-up device did not do the job. To back up 1.15 GB took about 30 mins. Before a back-up would take just minutes or maybe 1 hour, if I had not backed up for some days.
    Any ideas?

Running Virtual Box and based on the number of 'Page Outs' swaps more RAM would be useful.  Your MBP will accept up to 8 GB RAM with the following specifications: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.  The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
    Ciao.

  • .MKV files play very slow on my MacBook Pro (3gb ram).  What do u suggest?

    Hey FOlks.
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing slow rendering (playing) of .MKV files on their MacBook Pro. And what to do?
I have Perian, but Im not convinced QT or Front Row can play .MKV files.
What do you recommend? What software for mac that can handle .MKV files good?
    CoreAVC?
    -Joey

It could be a 'difficult' form of Matroska file. FYI Matroska is just a container like MOV or AVI, and some mkv have the video encoded with Real Video Codec (RV9 RV10). Perian+QT can't decode this, but VLC will play .mkv files just fine on OS X, as long as they don't use H.264!
It's a bit of a lottery until Matroska decide to properly support the Apple platform. I have found this:
    http://mkv4mac.free.fr/index.php?lang=en&p=lec
    which may help.
But there may be another workaround: 1. Get Info the mkv file
    2. Change to extension to wmv. Save as wmv and that could work better.

  • Slow internet with Macbook Pro

My desktop connects fine in downloading and browsing, but my Mac BookPro is sluggish to the point where I have to refresh just to get it to do anything. Anyone have ideas on why this is? Or simple solutions?

I think this is related to the MBP and possibly 10.5.2. I have just tested my connection speeds on my APEBS on my iMac 10.4..11 and PowerBook G4 10.5.1 and all had reasonable good connection speeds (using speedtest.net). I'm Jupiter, FL and I tested to Jacksonville, FL, Portland, ME, Colorado Springs, CO and San Jose, CA. The download/upload speeds on the iMac were 2836/386; 2801/401; 2577/362; 2474/398. The download/upload speeds on the PowerBook were 1827/365; 1326/406; 1557/319; 872/399.
    Compare those to the MBP 10.5.2 2111/45; 1124/46; 930/125; 533/7
You can see a real problem with the upload speed (which is why I keep getting the "Safari can't find server" message).
Now compare these speeds to these when I take out the APEBS and hook the MBP directly to the DSL modem (Westel 6100). 1147/382; 6134/413; 5005/388; 4388/498
Vast improvements in both the download and the upload speeds.
I'm now using my iMac because the MBP is not usable with the internet with the APEBS Wi-Fi (slower than the old dial-up)

  • Very Slow Streaming from MacBook Pro to Apple TV

I am trying to stream movie from my MacBook to my Apple TV but the movies do not stream. My library shows up on my Apple TV and when I select them they do not load. After a few minutes a message will show up saying, "An error occurred loading this content, Try again later." I have had my Apple TV for about 5 months and have not had any problems streaming content before except when I had to do some port forwarding through my router but about a week ago it started with this issue. I have a PC hooked up to my network and am able to stream from that without any problems. My MacBook is running OSX 10.8.2 with iTunes 11.0.1, my Apple TV is running 5.1.1. Please help with any suggestions you might have.
