Suddenly won't charge from AC

Hi there,
My 3GS (latest iOS, not jailbroken) all of a sudden does not want to charge from an AC connection.
I have tried different leads (Apple & 3rd party) and different AC to USB units and no combination works. All the leads and AC adaptors had worked in the past.
The phone does however charge when plugged into the dock on my Roberts CD/Radio player or my Mac (using the same cable I've tried using when connecting to an AC outlet).
I have tried rebooting the phone, and am loathe to do a full restore (and lose all my settings and app data)
Any ideas?
Thanks

All wall chargers that I have tried have worked in the past (up until yesterday) with the same iPhone.
I am certain that this is not a 3rd party wall charger issue (one the 3rd party chargers is a Kensington 'NightStand' charger which has worked all over the world - and next to my bed for the last 12+ months)
I have, of course, tried the various chargers in different power sockets in my house - sockets that other appliance work off.
All a bit odd

  • Ipod video 60 GB won´t charge from USB

Hi my ipod won´t charge thru usb cable instead it will deplete the whole battery, I have tried connecting it in several ports, several computers and with 3 different usb cables with no luck, I noticed it will only charge thru my old firewire charger and dock, what can I do? When plugged into the usb cable it says "charging" but it does not.
I have resetted everything with no luck.
    Thank you

I have changed it from usb ports I have putted it in different computers and nothing, when connected to the usb port of any computer back, front sides or wahtever it doesn´t charge it actually drains the battery, I have also drained the battery fully and let it off for 2 days and no still won´t charge from usb after 5 hours connected to the usb, it will only charge via a firewire charger or my monster cable.

  • Ipod mini won't charge from mains.

My ipod mini won't charge from the mains lead or a dock but works fine with the usb lead. I've tried different leads, sockets and resetting it but nothing works. It's a pain because if I go away from home for any length of time, I need to take my laptop just to charge it up.
    ipod mini   Windows XP

I say try a different charger. When I wanted to avoid having to take my laptop everywhere, I bought this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BNZLGE/ref=pdcp_etitle/002-2209999-2570423?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=172282
and it's worked fine in the six months I've had it... and besides it would cost under $10 to find the root of the problem, much more than Apple would charge, that's for sure.

  • Shuffle won't charge from car

I bought a shuffle for my wife's car which has a USB connection.  It won't charge from it and it also has an extremely low volume which can't be adjusted because the volume adjustment is built into the earphone cord.  Is there any solution to this before I get rid of this shuffle?  My nano works in there perfectly.

Copied from my previous post in this thread.
I know if the iPhone's internal temperature if over a designated temp, you can't charge the battery until the internal temp has been reduced. This is protection for the battery and internal components since charging increases the internal temp.
When this occurs, the charging indicator will switch to showing as being fully charged.
    Are you using a case?
Charging increases the internal temp of the iPhone, and using GPS will also increase the internal temp of the iPhone. Combined must have increased the internal temp of your iPhone past the designated temp when charging stops. Using a case can prevent heat from being dissipated properly.

  • IPod suddenly won't charge

I am really confused by this. My iPod won't charge, and I've tried with a wall charger, the usb cable, and a car charger, all verified working just the day before. The iPod still works perfectly, but the battery is now very low. To make sure it wasn't my chargers, my iPhone gets a charge from them. It won't sync, the computer doesn't even recognize it. However, it still works with my iTrip tuner, so I'm assuming the problem is with the battery. Any help with this?

I'm having the same problem, MyNameWasBob, and it isn't the battery.
My iPod won't charge with the wall charger (I tried 2 different ones) or USB cables (I tried 3). Neither iTunes nor the MacBook will recognise it is connected, and the iPod no longer displays the Do Not Disconnect message, nor charges.
It WILL charge, however, when plugged into my car tuner, and it WILL charge when connected to my inMotion speaker system or to my friends stereo system.
When it charges from these other places, it still holds it's charge absolutely fine. This is how I know it is not a battery issue.
I read that it sometimes happens after an iTunes update, and so I have now installed the newest version of iTunes to see if that helps, but the problem remains. I can't add or edit new songs or playlists to my iPod which is deeply frustrating.
I wouldn't mind so much except this is now the 5th iPod I have had to replace, and each one has had a different problem. I followed the advice to restart and try different USB ports, and none of that helps. I can't restore it as it can't find it to restore.
If you or anyone else finds a solution other than sending it back to Apple (AGAIN!!!!), I would also like to hear it!

  • Suddenly won't wake from sleep.

All was well but suddenly the Powermac G4 (gigabit ethernet) won't wake from sleep. Tried resetting the PMU (battery out and button pushed). Tried resetting the PRAM. Tried deleting the energy preference file. Even tried installing 10.5 on this old baby (runs just a slowly as ever, but startup takes an age). Can't run hardware testing because there's a bad firewire on the motherboard and it just stops there. Don't know what else to do. Why? this is my music server and it uses just as much power as my refrigerator if left running all the time but only needs to run when playing music.
    400MHz PowerPC G4 (2.9)
    boot rom 4.28f1
    two Maxtor ATA drives
Studio Display with DVIator power and adapter
1G RAM (sure, I'd like more)
one PCI card with FW and 2 USB
one PCI card with 4 USB
    Airport card
    Modem
    System Power Settings:
    System Sleep Timer: 60
    Disk Sleep Timer: 10
    Display Sleep Timer: 10
    Sleep on Power Button: No
Automatic Restart on Power Loss: No
    Wake on AC change: No
    Wake on Clamshell Open: Yes
Wake on LAN: Yes (does not respond)
    Wake on Modem Ring: Yes

If the SMC reset doesn't work try this.....
If your Mac happily goes to sleep but won't wake up--Hold down the power switch to force-reboot your machine and get it running again.
Don't worry-your Mac isn't narcoleptic. Its Open Firmware system or NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is likely corrupt, and your Mac can't remember how to wake up.
Try resetting the PRAM. This should reset the NVRAM on most machines, which is the suggested fix.
Then put it back to sleep to test. If the problem recurs your Energy Saver preferences may be the culprit. Delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file (go to Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration)--don't worry, your Mac will regenerate a new one--and then restart to see if that rights the wrong. The restart is very important.

  • Phone won't charge from standalone chargers, will only charge from a computer.

This is a bit strange.  My iPhone 4 (at&t) won't accept a change from any of my chargers (the one that came with it, the iPad charger, third-party chargers), it will only accept a charge from a computer.  The same chargers work OK for other devices (iPhone 3G, iPod, iPad).  This happened both in 4.x and 5 (I just upgraded, hoping to fix it).

Clean the iPhone Dock Port with a clean dry toothbrush. See if this helps. If not, clean again with the toothbrush and a small amount of Isopropyll Alcohol, clean especially the Pins which are on top of the Dock Mid Rib.

  • IPhone 3G won't charge from USB port

Suddenly I am getting an error sound (no message though) on my computer when I plug my iPhone into its USB port and it no longer charges the battery. I don't have iTunes on this computer (not allowed/work computer) but I have been using the USB connection to recharge my phone until yesterday when it stopped working.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. Tried 2 different cables - same result, no charge and an error tone.
    2. Tried connecting to a USB hub, direct to several USB ports on computer, and via a USB port on the computer's keyboard - same result, error tone and no charging.
    3. Tried various combinations of two cables and two AC wall adapters, all work fine to charge my phone.
    4. Tried plugging my iPod into the USB port on the computer and Windows XP immediately identified it as a iPod and started charging it.
I have not tried plugging it into my home computer where I sync it since this started happening yet.
Is there something wrong with my phone?

I've had a computer "suddenly" refuse to charge an iPhone that it had previously charged reliably.
In my case it was because Vmware was active in the background managing a background Virtual Machine, and it grabbed the USB port on behalf of that background machine, which immediately gave the proper beep sounds, but since the virtual machine had no drivers, it didn't charge. (in fact the charge indicator went backward fairly quickly).
If you have to ask what Vmware is, this is probably not your problem, but there may be similar scenarios that could cause this with background tasks, or other logged in users running things that think they "own" the usb port.

  • E7 won't charge from a USB charger - can anyone he...

Just got my E7 earlier this week.  It will charge perfectly using the mains adaptor, and when I connect it to my PC via USB, it charges, but it will not work with the car USB charger that I have.  I know the charger works, because I have used it on other phones, but it will not work on my E7.
Any ideas if there is anything I can do to fix this?  Will be a problem if I am using my E7 as primary music source or sat nav with no way to charge it when out and about in the car.

with regards to car charger it does depend on the voltage , I have a couple and only one works with the E7 , if the phone charges with mains and usb to computer it's obviously the actual car charger that's incompatible , if the phone won't charge at all then the fault is with the handset which requires repair or replacement under warranty !

  • TS3274 ipad won't charge from computer

My Ipad will sync with Itunes but it won't charge while connected to my computer

It's not supposed to.  Use the iPad specific 10W wall charger.  Very few USB ports on a computer put out enough power to charge an iPad.
You might want to read the user guide, which is conveniently bookmarked in Safari on your iPad.

  • Phone won't charge from computer

I changed some setting today that connecte my phone as a media device to my computer.  This same setting also allowed me to charge my phone from a computer.  I cannot find it to put it back.  Anybody have any clues how to put it back?  It is a setting on the phone, not the computer because now my phone will not charge from any computer.

This is weird, I plugged my phone in the first time, it started charging
from my computer, but my computer didn't acknowledge it, and there was
no notification bar to pull down.  I used the same USB port that I
always use because it seems to charge the phone the fastest.
I wanted my computer to recognize the phone like it has always done in
the past prior to me changing whatever I changed on my phone.  I
unplugged my phone, it showed that it had quit charging, then plugged it
back in to both ports on the phone and the computer.  The phone did not
recognize that it was attached and start charging, and the computer
    didn't recognize it either.
I unplugged my phone, and rebooted it.  Then I plugged the phone back
in, and things were initially the way they were, the phone brought up
the notification bar, it showed as being connected as a media device.
My computer recognized it as well.  So now it charges, but all that I
can do is to install the Motorola assist software.  I have downloaded
and installed it repeatedly, but I still can't access my
pictures/music/etc. from my computer, the only thing that shows up is to
install the software which I've installed.

  • E5 WON'T CHARGE FROM PIN HOLE

My E5 has stopped taking a charge from the original charging (PIN) Port. It will only charge from the USB port now. I hate having to turn my computer on just to charge my fone. Any suggestions?

Have you verified that the charger is providing current to your phone? You may want to contact a Nokia Care point to have the charger checked.

  • Ipad 2 won't charge from ipad charger, but will sync and charge from USB!

    Hi
I have been having some issues with charging my Ipad 2 and have searched the internet but can't find a solution.
I can charge and sync my ipad from my computer but it will not charge from the mains charger (2 amp) provided with the ipad. - Therefore there is no problem with either the lead or the pins on the ipad
I know the cable works as it is the one i am using to sync to the PC. The charger also works to charge my iphone. - Therefore no issues with the charger.
    I have rebooted the ipad.
I have also restored the ipad back to its orignal settings and restored a back up from Itunes.
All so far have had no effect on using the charger to charge the ipad.
Perhaps a trip to the Istore is the only option?
    thanks

Take your iPad, cable & charger to the Apple Store.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.
