Sudoku for iPod

I'm a big fan of the new Sudoku wave. It's a nice brain wake up and time killer when I'm in the "metro" (underground transport service in Montreal) on the way to the job. However, since Sudoku Companion exists for Mac OS X, I'd loved to have it on my iPod as well. In fact, it is already available for many PDA types and for cell phones as well (with win ce loaded).
When!?

If the game is on the iPod the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
If you haven't got the game on your iPod and you have no other back up then I'm afraid the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • Questions for ipod nano 5g owners

+Please can anybody convince me to get a 5g 16 gigs nano? I'm a bit scared to go for this new buy and sell my old 3g nano.+
Would really appreciate if u guys can give me a feedback on these few questions. I don't intend to use the camera much at all and I don't want to play videos on it...still im a bit concerned about the battery.
    1) How is the battery quality? Experiencing any troubles?
I do own a 3g ipod nano and the battery rocks, I can listen to some music for about 2 hours per day and go like that for a week or so. 4g ipod nano was a real lemon if compared to the 3g...wondering if the 5g is as good as the 3g or not.
    2) What about the flashy colours that have been used? Are they looking good? I honeslty really liked the satinated aluminium and the soft colouring of the 4g better.
    3) The clicking wheel is that rather thick? I do remember that the 4g nano had an incredible light clicking wheel when i was touching it it felt like it could broke if really pressed hard. 3g has not that issue, it feels very sturdy and compact.
    4) I also noticed that in many pic sonline there is a sort of a gap between the clicking wheel of the 5g and the cover of the ipod itself. Is that something that all the owners of the 5g have or there are only some bad manifactured ones out there?

    1. I haven't been able to test the battery power extensively due to the fact that I've been playing around with transferring videos from my iPod to my PC, and I just installed a hookup in my car so I could listen to it in there, and this hookup also charges the battery... BUT I did play Sudoku on it the other day while I was waiting for a pizza to cook. The timer had me clocked at 14 minutes after it was all said and done (I thought I was pausing it but it kept counting the time, and the screen never went idle). After I finished, I looked at the battery power and it had barely gone down at all, maybe a slight smidgen at most. With my 4th Gen, I could play a game of Sudoku for about 8-9 minutes and that could drain a full battery anywhere from a quarter to halfway down, so in comparison, 5th gen battery life is MUCH better then 4th gen, though I suspect I may have had a faulty battery in the old one...
    2. Personally, I love the new colors and casing on the new nano's. Very shiny.
    3. I played around with my 3rd, 4th and 5th gen to see what you ment about the click wheel. The 3rd gen is thicker, but with the 4th and 5th gen, you are dealing with a slimmer nano, so Apple most likely slimmed down the click wheel to compensate for room. My 4th gen held up well, I don't see why the 5th gen would be much different.
    4. I think any gaps you may have seen from pics might have been a trick of light and shadow. All Nanos have extremely tiny spaces between the click wheel and the casing if you look close enough. For the 5th gen, I think it might be the aluminum finish, and that the click wheel is raised ever so slightly on each side, that makes the gap on that nano seem larger then it really is.
I hope this helps, but of course, this is only my version, I'm sure others will put there two cents in too.

  • Comparison for iPod Users: Free Online Converter & DVD to iPod Converter

Compare two channels of obtaining video sources for iPod: one is using online converter, the other is DVD to iPod Converter. After the general introduction of the two methods, I will analyze their advantages and disadvantages for you to choose according to your need.
Part One: Enjoy YouTube (online videos) on iPod
Instruction: a useful website to convert online video freely: http://www.vixy.net/
For vixy, you can just copy the URL of the online video into the “URL” blank of the vixy, then choose the format you want to convert to. Click “Start”. For a short time, the conversion will be finished. You can click the “Download the converted video” to restore the file.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/vixy.jpg
Advantages: Free online video converter. No software to install. Only a few clicks you can get the converted file after a short while. The most important thing is that online video sources are numerous and original, so you can get the first-hand sources in time through it. Some personal DVs are also shared with you.
Disadvantages: They set limitation of the length and size of the video. The classical movies usually are not on line available. Even if existed, the quality of image and sound is inferiors.
Part Two: Enjoy DVD movies on iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPod Classic, iPhone, iPhone (3G), Apple TV
We usually bought classical DVD movies for collection or regular watching later, but DVD cannot be copied directly into iPod for us to appreciate it at anytime and anywhere. On this occasion, we need to convert DVD to the format, video and audio settings (Resolution, Bitrate, Frame Rate, etc) supported by your iPod player.
Instruction: the way to convert DVD to iPod: using Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter http://www.aiseesoft.com/dvd-to-ipod-converter.html
Install and run Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/download/dvd-to-ipod-converter.exe
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/screen.gif
Step 1: Click “Load DVD” button to import your DVD
Step 2: Use “Profile” drop-down list to choose your output format.
Step 3: Click “Settings” for setting your video parameters.
At last click “Start” button to start your conversion.
    More tips:
    1. Merge into One File
If you want to merge the selected contents into one file you can check the "Merge into one file" option. As default the merged file is named after the first selected file (either a title or a chapter)
    2. Movie Effect
You can set the brightness, contrast, saturation of the video and volume of the audio.
    3. Trim Movie
It can help you to capture the segment of your movie.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-trim.jpg
    4. Crop Video
You can remove black edge of your DVD movie and get any playing area of the video by using its "Crop Mode" function. You can also select "Zoom Mode" to extrude your video slightly to adjust to your portable devices so you can get the best video quality.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-crop.jpg
    5. Take Snapshot
It allows you to capture your favorite pictures from your movie.
Advantages: In this way, you can make full use of your DVD: not only in DVD player, but your iPod player. The function of effecting and trimming allows you to clip the segment of the DVD movies complying with your will. You can enjoy more movies taking full advantage of your spare time while relaxing or traveling.
Disadvantages: DVD movies are usually popular, lacking of individualization. You can not share others' DVs.
With these two ways, we can enjoy the pleasure videos bring to us as much as we like. Have fun!

Depending on what update your iPod is, you may need
to dowload YAMB to make sure the videos play well on
your iPod. If you are watching a converted video on
your iPod and it freezes suddenly and this problem
continues, you need to download YAMB and convert the
files already converted with videora iPod converter
with YAMB, this will only take a few minutes.
I hope this helps you out.
Nope. All that a person with that problem should have to do is just update their iPod firmware to 1.1.1 with the newest updater, as that issue has been resolved in the latest firmware.

  • Remote for iPod

    Hi there.
I've bought the Apple Universal Dock for iPod with Apple Remote, and I wanna to know if there is any way to use this remote with the Remote app.
    Thx all.
    Obs.: I'm a PC user

    Hi,
The menu button works with the new iMac:
    b Apple Remote with Mac
Included with the new iMac G5, the Apple Remote gives you total command of your music, photos, videos and DVDs from anywhere in the room. It combines with Front Row — a menu-driven, full-screen interface — to make accessing your iMac's digital bounty from any seat in the room as simple as navigating your iPod. When you click the Apple Remote's
    b Menu button
, your desktop fades and Front Row's sleek interface takes its place to give you control over your music in iTunes, your photos in iPhoto, the videos in your Movies folder and whatever DVDs you want to play. Turn up the volume. Shuffle. Skip to the next chapter on your DVD. Play a slideshow, a home movie you made in iMovie, even a movie trailer. Just sit back and enjoy the show.
    Regards,
    Colin R.

  • Remote for ipod touch

is there a way to use remote for ipod touch and iphone with only bluetooth?
i'm running 3.1 os for ipod touch and i have itunes 9

If you mean using the remote app for controlling itunes with your touch using only bluetooth, as others have said, that's a no. This might be an ignorant suggestion, but someone who knows more about it can maybe post after me. If you're connecting your macbook to the internet with an ethernet cable rather than a wifi router, can you set up a macbook as a wifi connection spot so that your ipod is connecting directly to the macbook via wifi? I would imagine you could use the remote app then.
I also sort of thought you were asking if there was a way to control your ipod touch using a remote via bluetooth, and that's also a no, but you can use a remote with a dock connector.

  • I have forgotten my password for iPod Touch 4G and it is now disabled. I tried connecting to iTunes but i haven't synced before and i need to enter the password before i can back it up so i can restore it. I don't want to lose pictures so please help!

I have forgotten my password for iPod Touch 4G and it is now disabled. I tried connecting to iTunes but i haven't synced before and i need to enter the password before i can back it up so i can restore it. I don't want to lose pictures so please HELP!

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. That is how it works
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • QuickTime Movie Files Won't Convert For iPod using iTunes and QuickTime Pro

I've got a ton, and I mean a ton of QuickTime movie files of music videos that I want to convert to use on the iPod. I tried using "Convert Selection For iPod" in the Advanced Menu on iTunes, but got the following message trying convert a QuickTime file of U2's Beautiful Day:
""Beautiful Day" could not be converted because this file does not allow for saving or conversion."
I purchased QuickTime Pro hoping that the features on Pro would convert the file. When I opened the same file to convert using QuickTime Pro, "Export" under the file menu was grayed out so I couldn't select it.
You'd think that an APPLE QuickTime Movie file that can be played on APPLE'S iTunes and APPLE'S QuickTime Player would be able to be converted to be used in APPLE'S iPod player. (Anybody notice how APPLE is capitalized to point out that the the hardware, software and file formats are ALL Apple?)
Instead I wasted money buying QuickTime Pro when it won't do what I specifically bought it for. Now I have all these QuickTime files which won't play on the iPod.
Can anybody provide some help or assistance on how to accomplish what I'm trying to accomplish???

If the file doesn't allow saving or conversions then it is protected by DRM (Fairplay).
Nothing can help QuickTime Pro convert protected files.

  • How Can I Recover Paid For iPod Click Wheel Games

Well, well, well.  It seems that Apple iTunes had really ****** me off today.  Here is what happened
Recovering iPod Classic Click Wheel Games
Here is my story and at the bottom are my Questions
The hard drive on my old computer crashed and I bought myself a new one.  When I finally decided to put more on music onto my iPod Classic something happened.  iTunes disabled without deleting my $300 worth of iPod Classic Click Wheel Games.  I've called and contacted them for support to no avail.  I believe I forgot to authorize my new computer before putting on my new music.
Just before Christmas I called Apple support asking questions & the man on the phone didn't have very good advice for me.  He said that maybe iTunes could replace the games for me.  So I started looking at iTunes for iPod Classic Click Wheel Games and they were no where to be found.  Apparently Apple had removed them from the store and yet they sell iPod classics.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/30/apple-removes-ipod-click-wheel-games-from-it unes/
After Christmas I tried again to contact them about my iPod Classic to try and have my $300 worth of click wheel games replaced.  While I waited on the phone for an hour while they played poor quality music into my ear giving me sever headache.  I was already frustrated as it is and when I got a hold of someone she I had trouble understanding her.  (I have poor hearing, had a headache and was frustrated)  She gave me advice to contact Apple about the iTunes store.  I called again and got a hold of someone who i could better understand.  He gave me a step by step information which was the same as the last person I had contacted.
Now I sent an email to iTunes store asking if i could get help
All the iPod Classic Click wheel games files were still on my iPod.  Now I needed some way of retrieving the files.  I made a that attempt at contacting apple and they told me that i Could "Check for Available Downloads".  Which was the very first thing I'd Tried.  But these are files which i believe apple only allowed One Download.  I could not get my files from Apple.
Now I sent them a 4th Very long message stating what happened and Asking for Answers for Four Questions.
The files are still on my iPod Classic & I would like to Please get some answers to My Questions Which I WANT You PLEASE to Help Me with.
The files are still on my iPod Classic & I would like to know.
    1) Is there a way for me to Re-Activate my 2.3gb of iPod Classic Games so that they will once again work?
    2) Is it possible to copy the games from my iPod onto my computer & How Can I Copy these iPod Classic Games from my iPod Back Onto my Computer?
    3) If I can find these files from somewhere else lets say one of my friends or Bit Torrent.  Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
    4) If I find a way to replace my games without Apple & iTunes help.  Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
After all I have already paid for the files.
I really want to Download these games back from Apple iTunes Or to re-activate my iPod classic games and copy them from my iPod back onto my computer.  It seems that this isn't possible.  If this isn't possible I Am Going to Be very Skeptical about ever getting a iPod Touch or iPhone.  I've already been telling a lot of people about my problem.
So Far Unfortunately for me Apple & iTunes has not been very much help.
Thank You for reading my message.  Please help me with the answers to the 4 Questions
The message which they sent back Has Made Me Angry.  I'm Not going on apple pay per incident Paying $35 for a phone call if they can't send me an email with answers to these four ******g questions.  So I suppose you can tell that right now I Am ****** Off.
Since I sent the first message I authorized my new computer which didn't re-activate me games.
Then I went onto Google searching "how to copy files from iPod to computer."
Which Led me to this website
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/
I downloaded a trial version of Touch Copy
Somehow I managed to re-activate my lost games and copy most of the files back onto my computer using "Touch Copy".
Then I downloaded the last 4 missing files from somewhere else but I'm not posting where i got them.
Now that I have fixed my problem without Apple's expensive help
I Really Want To Know the answers to questions # 3 & 4
    3) Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
    4) Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
After all I have already paid $300 for the files.
I Thank You For taking the time to read my message.
    PLEASE HELP ME

Transfer your purchases into an authorized library, recover other media from the device, restore the device.
    2) Is it possible to copy the games from my iPod onto my computer & How Can I Copy these iPod Classic Games from my iPod Back Onto my Computer?
Transfer your purchases into an authorized library
    3) If I can find these files from somewhere else lets say one of my friends or Bit Torrent.  Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
Not really. All ClickWheel games should be locked to the account used to purchase them. If your friend wished to authorize your library that would work. At the time of purchase you were told that you got only one (successful) download of the content after which it would be your responsibility to maintain backups.
    4) If I find a way to replace my games without Apple & iTunes help.  Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
It will be fine. If you transfer the games into your library they can then be copied to any compatible device where they will work. The key is that the library doing the transfer is authorized to the relevant account when you update the content.

  • Can't install iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch

I am trying to download the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch from http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/whatsnew.html so I can download apps for my new iPod touch. (Although it is pretty bogus that I should have to pay $10 for an upgrade on a brand new device so that I have the privilege to buy apps). I have iTunes 7.7 already installed.
When I click on the link https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/touchLandingPage , I do not get a download, and iTunes does not open. Nothing happens if I open iTunes before trying this link either.
Instead, I get a brief page which says "One Momemt Please". Connecting to the iTunes Store. Loading... If iTunes doen't open, click the iTunes application in your Doc or Windows Task Bar" , then my browser is redirected to http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download/?itmsUrl=itmss%3A%2F%2Fphobos.ap ple.com%2FWebObjects%2FMZFinance.woa%2Fwa%2FtouchLandingPage%3Fign-mscache%3D1 which tells me to download iTunes... but I already have iTunes installed.
I installed (then uninstalled, reinstalled) the latest iTunes (7.7.0.43) and the problem persists. iTunes works fine for all other uses.
I have the problem with both Firefox (3.0) and Internet Explorer (6)
How can I download and install The iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch directly from iTunes? I cannot find it when I search for it. It is not listed in the App store.
(P.S. The web support form does not work when I tried to fill out a problem report for "Connection" issues. Although I filled in all form fields, it would not send the report, telling me I did not fill in a field.)

The upgrade now appears directly in iTunes, so I do not need to access it from the web page. I see many others are encountering problems installing the upgrade, so I'll see how it goes...
There is no answer to the initial problem that iTunes install does not configure the browsers to handle the itmss:// protocol.
I still think Apple should not charge for this for a brand new iPod purchased just this week.

  • Tutorial: Converting Video for iPod (Read BEFORE You Post)

Since 1/2 the bandwidth is about the same question - how to convert (Filetype X) to iPod video (MPEG-4 or H264) - here is the simplest and FREE method using one piece of FREE software and the ability to do a bunch at a time in a batch process.
    -------------------MPEG-4 CONVERSION FOR IPOD----------
Start with a muxed file, e.g. MPEG-1 or 2. I am starting with an MPEG-1 music video clip. Update: MPEG Streamclip 1.5 now accepts almost all video clips, AVI (with the right DIvX or 3ivX codecs installed) and QT. So open whatever you have in Streamclip and follow these steps:
    Open in Streamclip
Select File Export to QT (or new setting: File Export to MPEG4)
Big window opens. Select the codec from the top pulldown- Apple MPEG-4 Compressor
Select 40% quality (this lowers the bit rate and makes the file smaller and conform - at 80% the file is 120MB vs. 10 MB at 40%) as you don't want huge files.
Under Sound Select AAC audio codec and 128 kbps
    Under frame size pick 320X240
Click Make Movie and where it will go of course.
On my G5 a 3'46" MPEG-1 music video was converted to a 10.1 MB mov MPEG-4 file in about 25 seconds. With a single G4 that might be 3 minutes. Bitrate is: 370 kbps video and looks fine at the actual size in QT and will look OK on the similarly tiny iPod screen. I was quite impressed by quality for such a small movie. I could goose it up to 50% or 60% to see how bit it gets but it looks good at 40% There may be a sizeable increase in size per 10% increase so before btach processing 100 try one at 40 or 50%.
    -----------IF YOU MUST HAVE H264------------
Open MPEG file in Streamclip: Select the (new) Export to H264 setting that doesn't crash like 1.3.1 did - or you can use these steps and see which is faster if at all. Which allow you to use the preset in QT Pro to export to iPod format (which is H264 and takes a long time).
Select Apple Animation as the codec for Compression at 100% quality
    Same sound setting as above
Pick the frame size that says (Unscaled) next to it such as
352X240 is common for MPEG-1 videos.
Make Movie - this results a huge file. But you can get rid of it later.
Open that huge file in QT Pro.
Do file export and pick the preset at the bottom that is "Movie to iPod"
It will figure out the settings. It may (it will)take a while but you get a M4V file in H264. My clip done this way took about 40 seconds to the Animation step and about 10 minutes for the QT to H264 step.
    --------------------BATCH PROCESSING-------------
Select the batch list - it opens, you add files as many as you like, select convert to Quicktime, then follow the step above once, select the destination directory and then start and it will do one after another in sequence. Note the preview window that opens is the actual post-processed file and you can see at roughly iPod size how it looks in real time or as fast as you can process anyway.

H.264 is going to be slow. No doubt about that. It's still a new codec so it's expected to take a while to compress versus MPEG-4.
I remembered when MP3 was still new ... my 233 MHz P2 machine was just chugging along.
When Ogg Vorbis came along, I would expect the encoding time to be somewhat slower. I was right to a point but that was when I have yet to own a computer that's 1 GHz.
The same deal with compression schemes. For instance, I have found RAR, StuffItX, and 7zip to take it's sweet time, if using the highest settings, compared to ZIP on max compression.
I expected no different with H.264, albeit the encoding time is a bigger difference compared to, say MP3 vs Ogg, but I have learned that when new codecs and compression schemes come by, I expect them to take longer than what I've been accustomed to as I used different machines. It's either that or I buy a faster computer. For the record, it takes me between 2.5~4 hours to convert a 24 minute video to H.264 using my iBook listed below, depending on the complexity of the video.
The quality of H.264 is rather nice for 320x240, sometimes even better than MPEG-4 using the same bitrate and resolution setting, but the output filesize is sometimes smaller than the H.264 cousin because it compresses rather well.
However, let me tell you that I'm rather spoiled when it comes to certain technologies. If the iPod says that it supports 2.5 Mbps MPEG-4, I'll use that setting first and then compare the visual quality of a 768 kbps H.264 file. Most of the time though, the DVDs I've encoded doesn't even come near 2.5 Mbps. It's more like 500~1500 kbps.
Personally, I usually stick at 100% quality and use the Limit Data Rate feature. It's just that I get annoyed even by the smallest artifacts on portable video and the less artifacts I see, the less annoyed I get.
Just thought I'd share my 2 cents.

Did you fail to look at the requirements before purchasing?
All sales are final.  You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception

  • Help for ipod touch not recognized by itunes

I am posting this to try to help others who have N ipod touch and windows is showing as a digital camera and itunes does not recognize after updating to 8.2.1. I tried EVERYTHING (uninstalling itunes, reinstalling, downgrading itunes, removing pics out of storage folder, restoring ipod, searching google for drivers for ipod, trying to find the right driver using device manager, made sure apple mobile was on and working, checked device manager under universal serial bus controls and apple mobile device was not listed, tried plugging in nano n itunes recognized it immediately... I found that alot of ipod touch owners had the exact same problem when upgrading itunes, but could not find a solution that worked..after about a week of trying fixed the problem..
Download the newest version of itunes, dont install just download the itunessetup file, then go to google and search for and download 7-zip and after installing 7-zip right click on itunes setup file and click 7-zip extract, go to the extracted folder and double click on apple mobile device then repair it, restart comp (mine still wasnt working so i tried one more time) went back to extract folder and double clicked on apple mobile device and uninstalled and then reinstalled then went to device manager and looked under universal serials bus controls and to my suprise apple mobile device WAS FINALLY listed, plugged in ipod and opened itunes and there it was, my ipod

I tried what you said to do and it didn't work.

  • Searching for iPod nano drivers

It seems that when I connect my iPod on my windows 2000 pc, it says "installing hardware" and then it wants me to find a driver for iPod.But, no matter how much I have searched I haven't found something.Any ideas please??answer ASAP

    No need to get snippity.
The drivers are part of iTunes 7, and SP4 is a requirement for the iPod to work properly which is why I asked. They are valid questions and I understand your issue.

  • Need driver for iPod video and Windows Vista

I had an iPod video and it synched no problem to my computer. There was a hardware issue inside the iPod so i sent it back and got a new one. Now when I connect it to my computer, it brings up the looking for a driver window and says it can't find it. Its only been a week since it worked fine.. I don't know if there is an issue with the new iTunes or what but has anyone had any experience with this issue or can simply tell me where to directly download or find the driver?

I too have had a problem with needing a driver for ipod. My ipod was working fine, then my computer stopped recognizing the ipod. It says it needs a driver for the ipod and I can't find one anywhere...need help..please
