Suggested K8T Neo BIOS settings for CL 3 Kingston Value RAM
G'evening!
I'll be putting together a system with the Athlon 64 3000 and K8T Neo board and had a question about optimal BIOS settings for paired Kingston non-ECC DDR 3200 RAM (2x512mb) that's CAS 3. Should have gotten some CAS 2.5 probably but this is what I have for now so in it goes. I'm reading the quick users guide and noticed that you can manipulate the CAS, TCRD, TRAS, and TRP.
First question: Will the board's auto detect do a good job in picking out a stable configuration?
2nd question: If you had to or wanted to make manual settings, what would you suggest? The CAS value is rather easy since I guess it should be set to 3 but what settings would one pick for the others?
And if I still have your attention...
The other things that will be going in the system are the infamous Maxtor 120 gig SATA HD, a XFX 5900FX video card, Lite-On combo burner. Powersupply is an Antec Solution Series 400W PS. After reading the forums for a bit I get the impression that you shouldn't forget to load the SATA Promise drivers so the HD will get recognized. My SATA drive will be the only drive in the system and will of course be the boot drive. Any other possible pitfalls or problems I should know about with the Maxtor SATA's and the K8T Neo board?
Also, I had thought I read from a review that the Zalman Al-Cu CPU heatsink/fan will fit on this board. Of course after seeing it in my hands for the first time I thought that it was a pretty damn big heatsink. Anyone else using this heatsink? (haven't taken it out of the packaging yet so that's why I wanted some impressions).
Thanks for any advice you can give me. It's been a bit of time since I built a computer and I'm sure there's alot of basic things I'm relearning along with the fact that the Athlon 64 is fairly new technology. On the other hand, when it's running smoothly...
Cant offer anything on the Timing, (sorry as I am Intel Fodder ), But I can assure you that the Zalman 7000-AlCu, Will Indeed Fit onto your Motherboard (With Room To Spare!) :biggthumbsup:I can attest to this because My buddy just installed the Zalman 7000-AlCu on his K8T ....And He loves it! As do I ....It's about the only thing that we have in common as far as PC'S Go .........Sean REILLY875

Best bios settings for K8T Neo + Athlon 64 3200+ + ATI 9700 Pro ?
Hi, i just got my k8T Neo (MS-6702) and can't figure out the best/most stable settings in the bios for my system yet. I am mainly using my computer for GAMES, so this is what i am talking about when i say "optimization"
I got an ATI 9700 Pro, an Athlon 64 3200+ and 2x512 mb of Kingston Value Ram (bank 1 and 2).
The main settings i really don't know how to set are:
-Internal Cache
-External Cache
-System Bios Cacheable
-C000, 32k Shadow
-MPS Revision
-AGP Fastwrite
-AGP Aperture Size
I wish i could get rid of any instability problems, i had a few crashes so far. Yet, i would like to set my system to get the most of my hardware in terms of speed.
Thanks in advance for your help guys !internal cache-on
external cache-on
system bios-disabe
c shadow stuff-disable
agp fastwrite on unless you have problems, you'll know fast
agp apperature size..depends on sys ram if over 512 best to atleast 128, if not 256
(official recomadation is 1/2 your system ram)
disable any onboard stuff you dont use like sound, sata controlers,
quick boot enable. smart enable
logo disable, floppy drive seek disable,
i wouldnt mess with mps table version.
power management to s3 usb wake enable..power management agm-disable
suspend time-disable-...set wakeup events hit enter, choose kbc & or mouse.
that should get you started. -
Best BIOS settings for Kt3 Ultra2 and Geforce4?
Hi,
Can someone tell me what the best BIOS settings would be for my KT3 Ultra2 running a Geforce4 ti4200?
I get crappy scores in 3dMark2001 SE and I have the infamous stuttering/crashing problems in 3D games. I've tried pretty much every configuration of settings and drivers I can think of.
I saw on these forums that the Kt3 Ultra2 can be a bit fussy with GF4 cards. If someone could post the best BIOS settings for performance and stability I'd be eternally grateful.
Alternatively, email me at [email protected] with them.
Thanks in advancevery very similar as far as i can make out

Where can I find BIOS settings for the 785GT-E63 that will give me the most optimum performance for my system? My system consists of:
Nvidia GeForce 7300GT graphics card-256MB memory
G.Skill-4GB DDR2 PC2-6400 Memory
Phenom X3 8600-2.3 GHZ
Coolermaster case with 2-120MM fans
Coolermaster 500 watt PSU
Stock cpu cooling fan
Can someone tell me what I need to do to optimize this system? Would like to buy another CPU, but not sure if I am getting the most out of this one. Help!!Quote
Would like to buy another CPU, but not sure if I am getting the most out of this one.
How do you mean? If your CPU is correctly recognised, and operates at its native speed of 2.3ghz, then you're getting the most out of it.
Does your system work without issues? Does it do everything you require of it, and do it well?
If yes, and yes, then stop fretting and enjoy your system, instead of trying to look for problems that aren't there.
Of course, if you want to try and push your system further, then you'll have to start overclocking. But we have a whole seperate area for that here, and you should post your questions there. -
Bios Settings For MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum MB
Hello all... Has anyone came up with the best and most stable bios settings for the MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum motherboard yet. Specifically under the CPU and Memory menus.
If anyone has seen any, please post them. or post a link.
Thanks
DaaDoctorWell that depends on the installed CPU and memory, doesnt it? So I find that question kinda odd.
One thing though: Dont use Cool n Quiet. -
Default Bios Settings for RS480MS-IL2
Hi all
I am just wondering if there is some hidden key that loads some Default Bios Settings for this board? I know there is an Optimized Settings option, but i haven't seen a Default one.
I am using version bios version 3.8
Thanks.have you tried a better psu
a 128 mb ram consumes around around 8 to 10 watts
http://www.blueowltechnologies.com/pmConsumption.asp
volts x amps =watts
3.3v feeds ram
so at most you have 46 watts on a good day -
Optimal Bios settings For A64 3200
If anyone could help me out with all the settings in the bios to get the most out of my comp without the overclocking please could you give me some help.
My system is as follows:
Athlon 64 3200
Msi K8t neo fis2r
512 infineron pc3200
Visiontek Geforce2 Ultra 64
plus all the standard equip.
What i need help on is some of these options arent really apparent to me on what they do. Hell I cant even find out if the ram is running at ddr400. I dont suspect that it is because i expected to get much better then 6200 in 3dmark01. I also was wondering with the hyper transport.. do you need 2 sticks of ram like intels version.. or am I way off base?
This isnt the first system Ive built.. but this is the first bios that has confused the hell out of me.. i just cant seem to get what im looking for. Thanks in advance.
also.. just let me know if im supposed to be scoring around 6200.. but i would sure hope not because my old 1.2 tbird got 4000.
almost forgot teh psu
its a generic 300 watter with
3.3 -14a
5 -25a
12 -10aDude...
You need to seriously rethink your system components.
Your PSU:
" a generic 300 watter with
3.3 -14a
5 -25a
12 -10a "
I wouldnt have even thought about using that in a new system.. Risk damaging everything. You should have AT LEAST 20amps on the 12v line.. let alone.. more than a 300 watt power supply. Make this your FIRST upgrade, and I suggest not using your computer with it.
Graphics card:
Ok.. you have a top of the line processor.. with a seriously outdated graphics card.
Its no wonder why you are getting 6000 in 3dmark 01, heck, Im surprised you even got that. Its obvious your video card is the bottleneck. Get a new one, and watch your scores shoot up.
The problem has nothing to do with your bios.
Seriously get a new PSU, and fast. Its generic, its 300 watts, and it has 10 amps on the 12v line.
Everyone that posts after me is going to say the same exact thing.
Edit: And oh yeah... The ram is most likely running at its normal speed, unless you told it to run lower. Plus, even if it was running at slower and you increased it, you wouldnt see a HUGE HUGE HUGE increase that you seem to be hoping for. Its the vid card... and I cant stress enough on how much you need a new PSU. -
Best BIOS Settings for Performace?
Hi Guys,
I am new to all this PC stuff, i was a mac user for the last 8 years. At the moment i am learning all this stuff on the Bios - can anybody help me out give me the best settings for my PC (without overclocking)? I understand if i disable cool n quiet - i will get better performance.
my info:
AMD 64 3200+
K8T Neo FIS2R Mainboard
2 x 512MB DDR400 (1 gig totalling) Kingston
9600XT Bravo (powercolor) 128MB
550W Antec True Power Supply
TT Venus 12 CPU Fan
Idle - 36 - 37c
Full load - 41 - 45c
I ran the 3dmark03 (demo) and the score came up 4005 - i am not sure if this result is how it should be but i really think its slow compared to my mate's 2600 XP running 9700pro and getting a score of around 5500.
Any suggestions/tips would be appreciated.Quote

3dMark03 is very GPU-demanding, and your mate's 9700pro is a faster card then your 9600XT.
Try runing 3dMark01 and it whill test the hole system more or less.

How to install Windows 7 in UEFI modeand what bios settings for D30
How do you install windows 7 in UEFI mode and what bios settings do I need to install it on a D30 workstation.
Not a ThinkStation guy, but FWIW, that can happen when installing Win 7 in UEFI mode when CSM support is not enabled in BIOS.
Is CSM support - either explicit or by selecting "other OS" and turning UEFI back on as suggested above - an option?

Change your user config mode in dram configuration to manual and change your memory timing to 1T. The 1T setting will speed up your memory slightly. -
I recently flashed my BIOS via the Live! Update feature to 1.80...
However, both SiSoft Sandra 2004 & Belarc Advisor report BIOS version 1.0 is installed....
Here is the report from Belarc:
Board: MSI MS-6702 1.0
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. Version 07.00T 04/02/01
If i try to run the Live! BIOS update, i am told i have the latest version...
So, my question is what BIOS do i have? MSI say i have the latest revision, but Sandra & Belarc say i have the first revision.
Thanks for any help!

Hello, I have a K8T NEo MS-6702 Ver 1.0 Mb and want to flah it. I have downloaded the BIOS Update ver 1.8. When reading how to flash it it says in large letters "DON'T FLASH FROM A FLOPPY DISK!!!!". Now my problem is that I have a NTFS file system so I am unable to run it from the C drive as instructed in the how to document. SO my question is why can I not run it from a floppy? Can I run it from a CD? How do I flash my BIOS with a NTFS file system?
Thanks in advanceYou are welcome! ...Eh, the other utilities I would not install unless they are absolutely crucial. After a successful BIOS update it is recommended you clear CMOS. Power off and unplug power cable when clearing, as there can be n o el. left for a successful clearing.

Ideal BIOS Settings for online gaming
this is my 1st computer that i built. i have a lot of experience in wiring high-end electronics, so wiring this little rig with barely any visible wires/cables was a breeze. I bought the processor/mobo with the intention of only doing minor O/C as i dont really know all that much on the hardware side of improving performance. with that said, i've searched for timings and settings for my specific combination, and i cant find any. again, i dont really want to push the config past a safe level, as i will be selling this machine when the 64's come down in price. can someone help me set the proper frequencies/timings? i have a lot to learn, and even in the normal bios settings i don't know if certain things should be enabled or disabled for my main purpose, which is to simply play 3D online games very fast. i will be changing out the GeforceFX5200 PCI for a 5600 AGP in a week or so. I'm noticing that my old Comcrap PIII 1.0Ghz w/512SDRAM with this video card gets just as good a ping ingame as this rig does. the machine starts quickly, runs offline programs quickly, but online it isnt as fast as i'd hoped. from what i've read in the other forums, there are many settings in the bios that are enabled by default that don't need to be. can someone help me decipher which settings are useful and which are not. i loosely understand some of the settings but if someone could help with the questions below and/or do a walkthru for bios geared toward gaming i'd really appreciate it. The machine runs very cool (CPU 104*F/SYS 93*F) but i dont know what else needs adjustment. I simply want to make this machine go as fast and as hard as it can with the right config. i don't want to unlock the processor yet or do anything else major at this point.
1: Best yet safe Voltage for my processor and RAM
2: FSB clock; 133 or 166? had problems @ 200
3: S.M.A.R.T. on or off?
4: Best IRQ/PCI slot for video card
5: "GoodMEM" utility: how much should i safely allot?
6: Video BIOS Cacheable?
7: Multiplier setting for K7N2DeltaL & XP2600+
8: VGA Aperture (my card is 128MB but PCI. upgrading soon)
i'll be learning more as i go along, so i dont really need a full explanation of what's what, lol THIS TIME. all i need is a rundown where someone tells me what to leave alone, and what to change for a very fast yet safe gaming rigOK I'm officially confused.
I bought the retail boxed AthlonXP2600+, which clearly states on the packaging "With 333 MHZ Frontside Bus". i bought the board over others, one reason being it supported 400MHz FSB. I go into "Advanced Chipset Features" and when i set the "System Performance" to "Manual", i can then go into the "CPU FSB Clock" settings, but the max it will allow me to go to is 233MHz (which won't boot and i have to flip the jumpers. when i had set it to 200MHz before, it failed to boot as well... PLEASE can someone look over these settings and tell me the OPTIMAL settings for taking this combo as fast as it can go w/o overclocking? What am i doing wrong? what multiplier do i need to be at. I'm under the impression that the combo works best when the clock speed of the board is at the same speed as the processor. here are the BIOS settings with which i need advice:

BIOS settings for a AMD 2100+ in K7N2 Delta ILSR
Hi can some one tell me what i set the bios settings too for a AMD 2100+ and PC3200 DDR ram in the bios of a K7N2 Delat ILSR.
I dont want to over clock the system just run it at the stock speeds.
Cheersset FSB to 133 and FSB/Dram ratio to 1:1 you will be underclocking your ram but you will get more peformance running in sync

Ideal KT4V BIOS settings for XP2500+ Barton
I've read AMD's recommendations for the KT4V BIOS settings http://www.amdforums.com/showindex.php?s=&threadid=186506 , but they seem to be very generic. I would like to know the settings that would give me the highest performance, without causing any instability, using my present system and usage. My son does 3D animation and gaming on this computer. This is a stand alone computer (no network). The latest version BIOS for the KT4V offers an option in Power Management Features to enable CPU HALT Command Detection. I heard that this would work better than Cooler XP in cooling the CPU. I enabled it and my CPU Temp dropped 6-10 degrees C. Is this recommended? What is the down side of this action? My system is as follows: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ w/ Vantec VA4-C7040 CPU fan (w/Arctic Silver 3) MSI KT4V mobo Gainward Golden Sample Ti/450 TV w/ 128MB DDR (GeForce3 Ti 200) 2 - Kingston 512MB PC2700 DDR RAM Antec TRUE550 power supply 1 - 40GB 7200RPM hard drive 1 - 30GB 5400RPM hard drive 1 - CD-ROM 1 - CD-RW 1 - floppy drive Windows XP home Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Barry
As a result of my research, these are the BIOS settings that I am using. My computer runs well and is stable.
