Suggested method for creating flash video?

I've searched through the forums and see that Apple seems to want to make things difficult for creating flash video for some reason. Regardless of why, does anyone have a suggestion for a simple solution to take a QuickTime movie file and convert/export it to flash video? I don't need a lot of bells and whistles, just the ability to end up with a flash file of my video. Thanks.

Thanks, but I'm really trying to find something for use on my Mac. Or perhaps I'm trying to do something that isn't even necessary... What's the recommended method for creating good-quality video from my Mac to be used on the web? Flash stuff seems to have a great quality for smaller file sizes. Is there a comparable format I could use on my Mac to get similar results which most web users could open without installing some additional software to read it?

  • Problem with tutorial:Creating a dynamic playlist for streaming flash video

hi, anyone tried the tutorial: creating a dynamic playlist
    for streaming flash video?
i follow the instruction exactly as stated in the tutorial
and test the fla file, it worked perfectly well when i open the swf
using the macromedia flash 8. Everything look fine. Nothing is
changed except the url is changed to "rtmp://localhost/videosource"
    in the xml file.
after i publish the file using the setting: access network
only, i try to open the swf and html file from the folder, the
thumbnail did not appear and there is no way i can click on any
videos. What i see is only the list, and there is no response from
the flash media server 2. All the files is in the same folder.
Anyone please help with this problem???? thanks

....i debug the movie step by step
and realised that the xml file is being read by the code...
Your original problem stated it worked but not when playing
    outside the
Flash authoring environment by simply loading the swf from
    the hard drive.
The Flash authoring environment is a trusted environment and
    so you really
need to test in the actual deployment mode which loading an
    swf from the
hard drive is not a valid deployment unless an installed
    Flash player is
available outside the web browser which you would have as you
    have the
authoring tool and your users will not.
    Use a browser with
    http://yourdomain.com/yourmovie.html
    to do final
    debugging.
In this regard you may need to debug the movie while running
    in real time
mode in a web browser with
http:// A technique to trace I suggested is to
create a temporary TextField perhaps named out_txt and send
    trace message to
it such as out_txt.text += "My Trace Expression".

  • Creating a Dynamic Playlist for Progressive Flash Video

    Hi
I just finished reading the Creating a Dynamic Playlist for
    Progressive Flash Video (

tutorial, and it gives a pretty good overview, however I would like
to be able to add the ability to stop and start the video as well,
and the tutorial doesn't really explain how the embedded video
works. Does anyone know how this can be accomplished, or at least
know where I can find information on how to do this.
    Thanks

I worked on the same project and it is working alright and
still interested in adding more features like play pause etc ....
but for now I'm more interested in adding the buffering bar and
    progress bar.

  • Creating Flash Video

Hello Everyone and thanks for your help in advance.  I am extremely new to Flash (using CS4) and want to create flash videos for display in web pages.  I have used a few of the wizards and have gotten some rough, very amateurish looking results, but at least they work.  I owuld now like to create a more professional looking product that has a nice looking player skin, a thumbnail preview that is typically included, and some sort of "Click to Play" button.  Would someone be able to point me to a tutorial of this or walk me through the basic steps?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Suggest BAPI for create notification IW34

    Hi,
Kindly suggest BAPI for create notification IW34.
    Regards,
    Tanaya

How to find function module or Bapi for particular transaction in sap?
If you mean that you need to know what BAPI's a particular tranx uses, which I can only assume that's what you mean, then you should access the code behind the transaction and search for 'CALL'. That normally is the standard method that think that most people use.
Suppose you want to find the bapi for creating a sales order, you usually use transaction VA01 for this.
    1. Find out the package of the transaction.
Start Va01 go to system --> status.
    Double click on transaction
    Package is VA
    Open this package in SE80
    Open business engineering-->Business object types
Find the BO which sounds the most appropriate
I would suggest BUS2032 Sales Order
    Double click.
    Open methods.
Find the released method with from data or something similar in the name
    , Createfromdat2
Position the cursor in it and click the program button
Scroll down to find the bapi used in this method
With this way you can also find out programs and FM's
    2. Start va01 go to system-->status
    Double click transaction VA01
    Double click on package
Read the application component. (this is SD-SLS Sales)
    Then open the transaction BAPI
    Sales and distribution>Sales>sales order
    createfromdat2
Answer: This is  the BAPI for your mentioned   transaction code BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE.

  • Creating a Replay Button for a Flash Video

I want to replay a flash video by clicking on a "replay" button. I know how to creat the buttons. I can't figure out how to create the action script. Thanks in advance for any help.
I know how to create the Action Script to replay flash, but when I have a flash video that I want to replay that's when I run into trouble.

    Hi,
This snippet should hint a solution to you (NetStream class):
    netStream.seek = 0;
    netStream.resume();
Anyway, you would need to know when the movie has finished playing.
On a Flash Media server, there should be an event just for that.
If you are not running on such a kind of server, make yourself a cuepoint to listen to, at the very last frame of the movie, so your app knows when its time to offer the replay functionality. You can insert cuepoints in a movie when you are in the Flash Video Encoder options.

  • Update for Insert Flash Video command

I looked at DW for the very first time, having recently
upgraded all my hardware and software. I now have the full Master
Collection - very exciting. Opened DW with great trepidation after
a lifetime with my beloved GoLive and was confronted with the
strong recommendation to do an update to protect against
insecurities arising with the Insert Flash Video Command.
Eventually I printed out the instructions provided in the technote
and followed them to the letter. All went well until the
verification stage. The technote tells me that the updated files
should have a creation date of 15th January 2008. Mine was 9th
January. I just want to know if this matters? Do I need to repeat
the whole procedure as the instructions tell me I should if the
files are not updated. In fact they have updated but just not to
the correct date. And why should it turn out any differently if I
do it again? I am puzzled.
I have obviously never used the Insert Flash video command
since I've never even used DW itself so maybe I didn't even need to
do the update at all in the first place anyway. But I thought I'd
better, in case I used the command at some time in the future,
although the possibility of me using something so technical seems
remote at this stage. (I am yet to learn Flash.)
I updated both DW and Contribute as suggested in spite of not
even knowing what Contribute is for yet.

The "Security Update Available" still shows on my welcome
    screen, even after updating it.

  • Creating Flash video issues

I am trying to convert a .mpg to a Flash video and can get
most of the way but it's not playing on my web page. I can view
locally when I do a open with IE and it plays before I upload all
the files but once I upload all the files it will not play.
These are the steps I am taking to do this:
    1. Open Macromedia Flash Professional 8
    2. Select File/New/Flash Document
    3. In Document Properties change Dimensions to: 354px w x
    240px h
    4. File/Import/ImportVideo...
    5. Where is your video file? On your computer: (Browse to
file 'ff.mpg' and select Ok) then click 'Next'
    6. Deployment: I select 'Progressive download from a web
    server' (click Next)
    7. Encoding: In dropdown I select Flash 7 - Medium Quality
(400 bps) and on right side change my slider to start where I want
it to and then click 'Next'
    8. Skinning: Skin = ClearOverPlayMute.swf and click 'Next'
    9. Finish Video Import: Click 'Finish'
    10. Then a Save As pops up and I save to demo.fla (Flash
Video Encoding Progress shows it encode the video)
    11. I can see the video in Flash 8 and view the video by
going to Control/Test Movie and works great.
In my /flash folder I have the following files: ff.mpg,
    demo.fla, ff.flv, ClearOverPlayMute.swf, demo.swf
    12. Open Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 and create new web page
    (File/New)
    13. Click on the flash icon and select demo.swf and it
creates code and upload demo.html along with all the other files
    excep ff.mpg
    Link is:
    Page with my
    code.
Does anyone have any ideas why this isn't working? Do I have
to set something on the server? A friend with MX didn't do any
    encoding.
Thanks for anyone that have any thoughts.

I am also facing the same problem and I am told that you have
to configure the MIME settings on your server
& ensure that the path to the flv. is correct.
    Hope this helps

  • Suggested methods for full backup of XServe RAID data

I know this is only peripherally related to the discussion topic, but since every other suggestion posted here is followed by the disclaimer that you should make a full backup of your data before proceeding with any major operations on your RAID arrays, I'd like to know what more experienced admins do in order to create a full backup for reasonably fast recovery in case of substantial data loss during maintenance/repair.
Our current "backup" availability is incremental optical disc archival (our data is mostly "write-once"), but this isn't entirely practical for recovery since it's over a terabyte of data. Since the connected server has a free hot-swappable SCSI drive bay as well as an interface for external SCSI devices, not to mention the fiber channel and ethernet interfaces, the options that I'd consider in order would be:
    1. A handful of 150-500 Gb SCSI hard drives, rotated out of the hot-swappable bay
    2. An external tape drive attached to the SCI interface (with appropriate tape size, maybe the LTO-2 with 200Gb native capacity?)
    3. Some other external SCSI storage device
    4. Larger optical disc archival (I hear there are technologies arriving in the near future)
    5. Network-based option; remote seems impractical due to sheer size, but perhaps local?
The idea is to make a full backup (long-term solutions are superior of course) of 1-2 Tb of data on the XServe RAID before attempting major surgery. Suggestions for common, accepted, tested, efficient methods for accomplishing this would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if this thread isn't on-topic enough for some of you.
    -Brian

    Brian,
Tape IMO is kinda yucky (to steal a term from your average 3 year old). It's fairly slow to back up to, it's very slow to restore, and it's actually not that reliable by itself (I worked with a large enterprise customer who said their backups were successful about 70% of the time (!!!)).
That said, tape has the advantage that you can offsite it and archive it very cheaply, and the media are fairly cheap, so you can make lots of backups, so if one fails, you probably can restore the data from another tape.
Disks are more expensive initially, but end up being pretty reliable, and you get a lot more flexibility (plus, they're fast).
An emerging "best of both worlds" backup strategy is what's called disk to disk to tape, where you typically back up to another large "disk," for example a second Xserve RAID. Data is then backed up from the second disk to tape, which is taken offsite... thus tape is used for what it's best at (offsite archival). Restore can be from disk in most cases, which is 10-20x faster than restoring from tape. People use software packages like Netvault's Bakbone or Atempo's Time Navigator, which can handle the whole process, and it works quite well. The backup disks (e.g. the RAID) can be onsite, or can be at a backup site a couple KM away, attached via optical (this is preferable, for DR reasons).
For cases where a second Xserve RAID is prohibitively expensive, cheaper (and slower) RAID 5 enclosures like Wiebetech's RAIDtech can provide a large (say, 1.6 TB) RAID 5 volume, accessible over FW800 or SATA (not sure if they have a SATA-based one yet).

  • Framework for creating Flash applications in AS3

Can anyone suggest a good framework for developing Flash AS3 applications? I have worked on two Flash frameworks till date: GAIA and PureMVC.
While GAIA is more focused on Website development and I find PureMVC a bit complex as I was not able to find anywhere the best approach to use the framework efficiently.

Very delayed reply on this one, but I thought still worth mentioning a year after the fact.  Over the last couple of years, working in a number of ad agencies, I've progressively built my own Flash CMS framework called Redblox (http://redblox.ca).
It's a framework I'm positive you've never seen the likes of before!  Redblox uses XML files as a blueprint to recursively build you're entire website.  Redblox framework concentrates on separating core functionality from behavioural functionality (see website for more info on that). Every component (ie, textfield, image, menu, layout, scrollbar, video player, everything!) is represented as an XML node within a larger XML structure and therefore its parameters, animations, behaviours and functionality can be added/updated/deleted directly within the XML. Consequently, using Redblox' integrated visual XML Editor allows users the ability to make these changes directly at runtime.  Simply CTRL+CLICK on any item/component while viewing the website in editor mode and the Redblox XML Editor tool will display all the information on that component to add/update/delete. Once users have made their changes, users can then save the XML blueprint of the website back to file.  Its really that simple.
I've only recently made this framework open-source, wanting to take a new direction in its development.  I've used this framework to build microsites for Nike Training Canada (Olympics & World Juniors Hockey), Alexandre Keiths, Rogers, Purina to name a few.
Just check out the site, you'll love it right away!
