Suggested migration path for 10G rel 1 (90400) installation to 10.1.2.0.2?

We are a heavy forms/reports shop. We have just gotten done installing 10G Rel 1 (9.0.4.0.0), and now that the latest version of the App Server has been released, I'm wondering what the suggested Migration Path should be? And whether there are any "must have" features that will make an appreciable difference in forms/reports. Or, should we just install the latest patchset for our 904 installation and be done with it?
Thanks in advance.
Phil McDermott

Hmm... well, I'm going to be testing the forms/reports features of 10.1.2.0.2 just as soon as I get time, but what I'm hoping for most is that forms will work with SSO through the webcache. There is a bug in 9.0.4 that I'm aware of where SSO fails while working through the webcache. Oracle said they were working on the issue...
...anyone here know if Oracle fixed that bug? It may be a while before I'll have the time to play with 10.1.2.0.2.

  • Migration Path for Organizer?

    Out of curiousity, what are the "natural" migration paths from Organizer?  Do any software "read" the Organizer DB and convert to their own format (ACDSee?  Lightroom?)?
    I'm not planning to move off Photoshop Elements any time soon, but Organizer doesn't appear to get a lot of attention from Adobe and lots of us like to have a Plan B.
    I'm not too concerned about Slide Shows (I like JAlbum) or the "map" feature (other free or cheap applications do map tagging in an easier and more standard way).  I'm mostly concerned about tags, notes and collections.
    I know you can force Organizer to write the tags out to the fiel in a standard way (IPTC categories I think) and comments and dates are written to the EXIF header.  But that's "Plan C" ;-}

    Before jumping into the migration/conversion process, I would like to get an excellent understanding of the problems and limitations of the conversion process. Is there a book or document that provides an extensive description of the conversion process and identifies comprehensively and fairly the problems and limitations of such a conversion?
    Also, in order to learn to use efficiently Lightroom: is there one or two books that you would recommend me more than others?
    Finally I have also a probably simple question: I am not motivated at all to use RAW because of the huge amount of Disk Space required for 30'000-50'000 RAW Photos (andbecause of the time and Disk space required for Backups of such large amounts of Photos). Will I be able to use all (or most?) nice features of Lightroom, even if I continue to use jpeg File formats?
    There is no book that covers conversion from PSE to Lightroom.
    In general, the conversion from PSE to Lightroom does most of what you would want it to do, so I wouldn't fear the process. The conversion from PSE to Lightroom is not perfect; for one thing, version sets are lost, as there is no concept of version sets in Lightroom. Stacks are maintained upon conversion. Tag hierarchies don't show up in LR exactly as they were in PSE; but its relatively easy to recreate your hierarchies in Lightroom.
    I recommend Martin Evening's book, The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Book: The Complete Guide for Photographers. I have become quite dis-illusioned with Scott Kelby's books for a number of reasons, so I dis-recommend them.
    Your disk space problems exist whether or not your photos are in Lightroom or PSE or neither or both. Lightroom doesn't make this worse or better. Getting more disk space makes this better. Lightroom is an excellent program for RAW photos; it is just as excellent for .jpg photos. What you lose in photo quality is not because of Lightroom's ability to handle .jpg photos; you lose in photo quality because your originals are .jpg and what ANY program can do with these is less than what ANY program can do with RAW photos.
    And by the way, I find myself frightened by the thought that someone has 30000 to 50000 photos and doesn't do backups because of disk space problems. This is a recipe for having zero photos some day when your hard drive crashes. If you can't make backups because of disk space issues, I would strongly recommend that you remedy this by getting another hard disk before you address any conversion to Lightroom issues. Spend that money on a disk drive rather than on Lightroom

  • Maximum Performance gain for 10g Rel 2 on Win2003

    Hi All,
    For a 4 CPU Widows 2003 Adv Server m/c with 10g Rel 2 , 8G RAM, SGA_TARGET = 1.4G,PGA_TARGET= 1.4G which runs Procs involving expensive queries and lots of INSERTS (ETL jobs), what should be the value of PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS , currently I have given it as 4 (as against 80 which is the default), through the 10g DB Control dashboard I can see only 26% CPU utilization.All my data files are in just 1 partition, do I need to have more disk partitions etc.
    Do advise ....how can I have the maximum perf. gain out of the setup.

    Just to add , we have implemented RAID 6 on the Server m/c (its a 8 disk 1TB hard disk)

  • Certification path for 10g

    I had a doubt of which certification path to take for certification for 10g. From the Oracle site
    (http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=140), it shows in the category of 'Middleware' but I feel 10g AS should be in the category of 'Applications'.
    So,
    a) Oracle Application Server 10g Administrator: Certified Associate
    b) Oracle Application Server 10g Administrator: Certified Professional
    shown in the category of 'Middleware' should be the one to be taken by me?
    I hope, my question is clear.
    Please, help in solving the doubt.

  • Suggested Migration Path (BC4J/Struts - ?)

    We built a BC4J/Struts apps a couple years back closely modeled after the BC4J ToyStore. It has been quite successful for us. However, I'm feeling like its technology stack is a bit dated, and would like some suggestions on bringing it more current.
    BC4J (ADF) has been pretty solid for us, so I'm thinking of sticking with that instead of considering something else (Toplink, Hibernate, JPA, ...).
    It would be cool to hear from others who were/are in a similar situation, and what they decided to do (tips, tricks, lessons learning from the trenches, ...). Thank you.
    - Matt

    I've worked in situations like this.
    Personally, I think that if ADF BC/BC4J is working for you, there's no need whatsoever to migrate away from it. I imagine some might disagree with me on this, though.
    The logical successor to Struts is JSF--since you're working in ADF, you'd probably want to use the ADF Faces components. Here, so far as I can tell, is the deal:
    1) The UIX -> Faces migration utility is pretty smooth, unless you made heavy use of .uit templates. There's no equivalent in Faces, so you'll have to drop what was previously template code into place on your individual faces pages.
    2) Moving from Struts to Faces...well, it depends on how heavily you used Struts, beyond the declarative bit. The declarative part is pretty easy to duplicate, but migrating controller code you've written in Struts over to Faces is manual, and in my experience not always 100% smooth. There isn't, for example, a clear action/page separation, so you'll need to find something to do with code you had written in Struts Actions and DataActions.
    Desppite these hurdles, I'd still recommend making the switch--the ADF Faces components are in many ways a big improvement over UIX components.

  • Migration path for us.

    Guys
    We are using MDEX 6.1.4 in production. This was the version released by Endeca (not Oracle Endeca).
    We have a dash-boarding kind of application that uses the JAVA Endeca API with Endeca EQL/RRN and Analytics queries. We have guided navigation features in the application, and they work great with Endeca analytics being used to render charts and tables.
    Now we are thinking of upgrading to the Oracle Endeca version and we are stumped. There are 2 paths available to us - Endeca Commerce Platform that allows us to keep the existing pipelines, and also allow us to use the Content Assembler API and Analytics API. The other product OEID is touted for BI type customers. We are a BI type customer - but we do all our BI type queries using Endeca Analytics API.
    Can anyone tell us how to proceed? We also have OBIEE in-house - and are we better off biting the bullet and going with OEID and a major rewrite? Or should we go to Oracle Commerce and keep most of our Forge and other stuff?
    Thanks and warm regards

    HI Henno,
    you question: "Can the Treasury "box" be running New GL while the core system is running the old one? (We are currently interfacing via FIDCMT IDOCS. It is not foreseen that document splitting will take place in the Treasury environment.) "
    We are currently running on ECC 6.0 with New GL.  The Idocs for the FI interface have not changed but the main concern about what you are trying to achieve is that in the future when the "core" system migrates to New GL they might require document splitting which in turn could affect your treasury box set-up.  More likely, you will have to synch both boxes to provide the data that would be required to post correctly in FI core.
    What this means is that if you have not defined the right characteristics (document splitting, etc.)  in your treasury box you will have to do a re-implementation of New GL and this will require SAP help...so you might end up implementing new GL again in both  your system in April 2012.
    I have to assume also that the team for the April 2012 implementation does not have the final requirement as yet.  So I would not advice you to active new GL until you can synch up with your core system set up.

  • What is the simplest migration path for a Word Newsletter to InDesign?

    I support an educational organization in the creation, layout, update and publication of a multi-page (between 8-15 pages) newsletter newsletter on a monthly basis.
    The layout changes every month depending on content.
    Updates come to me in all different formats from plain text emails to PDF files.  We use graphics and pictures of all formats.
    Each page is either a one or two column format, some pages contain tables and some do not.
    Many pages contain graphical elements like horizontal lines to break up each article.
    The newsletter is currently created, updated, converted and published with Word 2013 in Compatibility Mode in .DOC format
    I would very much like to migrate this newsletter to InDesign.
    How do I start?
    Thank you for all comments!

    How do you start? make a newsletter template with your static content, master pages and styles, then you can place or paste text from pretty much any source, and place your images. Each month you start fresh from your template. It's actually a lot easier, in my opinion, to do this kind of layout in ID than it is in Word.

  • Advice me regarding the certification path for 10g database certification.

    Hello friends,
    I am planning to take the certification for Oracle 10g database Associate, and am confused about the codes of the tests I need to take.
    I have following queries:-
    1) Is it enough to take 1Z0-042, to take Oracle Certified Associate, certification?
    2) Is it necessary to take 1Z0-047 as a support for this certification?
    3) Would I be considered for job openings if I get certified? (I mean the frequency of jobs). I know it is hard to answer this question, however I want an idea of applying for certified related jobs that accept OCA.
    Please advice me in this regard.
    Thanks in advance
    Murli

    Please post any other certification-related questions in the forum: Oracle Certification Program
    To become OCA you need to do the 1z0-042 exam and one of the following exams: 1z0-007, 1z0-051, 1z0-047.
    Becoming certified will put you in front of many people, but what employers are mostly looking for is experience. Many companies require a certification for the person to be even eligible for the interview, others use it as a differential.

  • Upgrade path for BI Publisher

    Hi,
    We are using Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.1 deployed with in Oracle application server SOA suite 10.1.3.1.0 on its own. We plan to upgrade our application server area to WEBLOGIC suite some time soon.
    Finally, we want to deploy Oracle BI Publisher into WEBLOGIC suite along with oracle forms/reports etc with high availability.
    I checked with oracle through SR and as per them as of now there no migration path for Oracle BI Publisher on WEBLOGIC suite.
    1) Can any one give idea of what will be migration path for Oracle BI Publisher on WEBLOGIC which will co-exists with oracle forms/reports etc
    Thanks

    We are trying to create graphical reports from Oracle Financial Statement Generator (FSG) xml output. I personally have extensive exposure working with XML (BI) Publisher but until recently I have never tried to use the BIP charting wizard to create graphical reports from FSG xml output out of EBS 11i/R12.
    I created an SR with Oracle but they had to create an enhancement request for this issue. Does anyone know or have any idea on how we can accomplish this. The charting wizard pops up but the xml tags available do not make any sense.
    If anybody has any idea please send me an email at [email protected]
    Thanks,

  • Suggest adding weblogic server courses to approved course list for 10g OAS

    Although this is quite niche market i would suggest adding a weblogic server training course to the approved list for 10g OAS OCP.
    While not related to the OAS OCP exam it might be beneficial to experienced OAS people wishing to become familiar with weblogic for the future and as such is an sort of 'upgrade' path preparation.

    It is not uncommon for WebLogic applications to show performance issues from time-to-time.The truth of the matter is that most of your performance issues are solvable.
    Is it important to have deep WebLogic knowledge to help mitigate issues ??

  • Upgrade path for WF 2.5.2 with 8i to WF 2.6.4 with 10g r2

    Your help would be useful...
    We have a large project using extensively Oracle Workflow v2.5.2 under Oracle RDBMS Enterprise Edition 8.1.7.4.
    This project involves the Quebec Government
    We would like to do a migration of this WF application from 8i to 10g r2.
    This project uses extensively the workflow engine in an application development through the PL/SQL APIs. It has more than 75 processes and 2500 steps.
    Is this direct migration feasible? Do you know someone who has done it before?
    What is the optimal path to do so?
    Do you have some documentation that covers this king of initiative?
    We use only the WF engine and the client/Server application for configuring the processes. We do not uses special features like e-mails.
    If it not possible to do a migration of the WF from 8i to 10g, is it possible to isolate the workflow 2.5.2 as a standalone application and then migrate it to 10g r2?

    Hello:
    We have done a similar migration with success in a customer installation
    We did that steps in 2005.
    Tell me at which platform you are now.
    Our customer application was intalled at Windows NT .
    We had success doing incremental migration steps :
    a)First upgrade wf 2.5.2 toward wf 2.6 ( over BD 8.1.7 )
    b) then migrate DB from 8.1.7 towards 9.2
    c)Then install OAS 10g release 1 and then install wf 2.6.3 form CD wich come with OAS( over oas home ).
    d)Then upgraded workflow from 2.6.0 towards 2.6.3
    I think that you can use OAS 10g r2 for your case instead of OAS 10g r1 and proceed analogous to c) and d)
    Finally you should migrate BD form 9.2 towards 10g r2.
    No we are in the process to upgrade our customer installation from WF 2.6.3, OAS 10g release 1( 9.0,.4) BD 9.2 over Linux towards
    WF 2.6.4, OAS 10g Release 2, BD 10g R2, over linux

  • Securing report path in address bar for 10g Reports

    I am using the following code to run report developed in reports 10g using windows. Report is running but it shows all the path in the address bar. like

    I don't want the user to view this path for some security reasons. i am a middle level programmer, so can anybody please guide me how can i protect path from user by editing it after report open or some changing in the following code. any solution..........
    Code to run report.
    Declare
    v_url      varchar2(3000);
    BEGIN
    v_url     := 'http://rep_server:8889/reports/rwservlet?report=d:\Sticker_rpt&desformat=pdf&destype= cache&paramform= no&REFNO=123&userid=user/password@orcl;

    Exception
    when others then
    message(SQLCODE||SQLERRM);
    raise form_trigger_failure;
    End;

    when you run the report from forms, you should use RUN_REPORT_OBJECT to run the report, then there is no username/password in the url (example Procedure is giving an error. ). Also, you can use javascript to hide the adressbar when using WEB.SHOWDOCUMENT
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('javascript:void(window.open("the_url","","location=no,toolbar=no,menubar=no,status=no,resizable=yes"))','_blank');
