Suggested replacement for (old) Mighty Mouse?

I'm pretty sure I don't want either the Magic Mouse or the trackpad.
What I want is a third-party mouse that
a) is similar in size and profile to the Mighty Mouse--NOT thicker, like all of the mice on display at Best Buy;
b) has an ordinary scrollwheel that doesn't get dirty and quit working in six months--I don't care about side scrolling, just vertical;
c) has similar enough sensitivity both for the mouse and scrollwheel functions that with the control panel, I can adjust it to work about the same.
Suggestions?
Any idea why the Microsoft Arc Touch only says it works with Windows? Anyone tried it with a Mac?
(I don't want the Magic Mouse because if I'm going to do gestures, I want all or nothing, not half a loaf; because it gets bad reviews; and because it needs a battery. I don't want the TrackPad because I've tried it and don't like it, and because it doesn't work well enough for art, drawing, photo-editing--if I bought a TrackPad I'd need to buy a Wacom tablet or something, too).

I'm currently using a WoWpad which sounds like what you might be currently using as well. It's a very thin plastic matierial and has a texture on it...and it works great but the texture feels a bit rough and makes a rubbing noise when you move the mouse across it. I'd like to find something a little smoother and quieter that works just as well. Tried using my old fabric pad and the mouse goes all over the place-very erratic without me even touching it-like it has a mind of it's own!

  • How far is the range for wireless mighty mouse?

I've checked the specs, I've read the reviews. Haven't been able to find the range for mighty mouse.
I would like wireless mouse/keyboard use about 12 feet away from my Powerbook (using a flat panel tv from the sofa). The keyboard specs say 33 feet, but not sure about the mouse... Any guidance/suggestions?

I found a review that said it was about 30 feet

  • Is there any way to turn the low battery warnings off for my Mighty Mouse?

I noticed a pop-up warning on start-up when my battery life reached two bars for my new wireless Mighty Mouse. Also the battery sign kept on flashing in my menu bar.
I was wondering if there was a way of turning these warnings off, save uninstalling the Apple software, or should I just change batteries and not worry about getting as much use as I can out of my current pair.
I've also turned off "show bluetooth status in menu bar" in mouse preferences but it keeps on turning on at startup and it doesn't seem to get rid of the low battery indicator flashing on and off in the menu anyway.
(And would turning off system events as a login item disable the startup warning?).
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hello Paul:
My own experience is that when the warning pops up (regardless of the yellow bars), you need to change the batteries. In my case I use rechargeable 2500 mAh batteries and an Energizer recharger that charges AA and AAA batteries in 15 minutes.

  • Driver for wired mighty mouse driver in windows xp pc

I'm looking for drivers for the wired apple mouse aka mighty mouse to run in windows xp pro to have horizontal scrolling.  Currently the generic plug & play driver allows vertical scrolling and horizotal only if the vertical scroll is not present.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I have a MBP running Bootcamp 1.1.2 and XP SP2. My Bluetooth Mighty Mouse works well within XP with the exception of the left-right scrolling.
First I installed the mouse in the OSX operating system. Then when I booted in XP, I used the "Bluetooth Devices" from the control panel to find and connect the mouse with no problems.
I didn't have to worry with any mouse driver installation.
Is Bluetooth working in XP mode?

  • HT203171 Magic Trackpad fail. It keeps clicking, sticking, selecting everything to the point of unusability. I'm lucky I have my old "mighty" mouse as a back up. SO annoyed right now. What gives anyways? Why did the trackpad just stop working all of a sud

    It's bugging me so bad.
I loved everything about it too, the swiping, gestures and everything are so intuitive. Now, no more thatn 20 minutes ago it just goes crazy. Rebooted the computer. Changed the batteries. Disconnected and reconnected everything. ARGGGGGG.
So lucky I kept an old wireless Might Mouse around, but it feels like being stuck in the past.
    Now I'm really upset.
OK, so that was mostly a rant, but man, I'm really ticked. My productivity has gone down in half! I was very acustomed to the trackpad by now - 1 year after purchasing my iMac... and conveniently AFTER the warranty. Those things are like $70!!!
So far there doesn't seem to be a solution. I know it's not a battery or anything - the trackpad is separate from the computer. Tried cleaning the trackpad several times, and no effect.
    Please help -
    Thanks,

Forget everything I wrote about bluetooth device interference having anything to do with this issue. I was obviously headed down a rabbit trail with this suggestion.
What I've since determined (that is working for me) is to focus in on the small round bumpers on the backside of the trackpad. I suspect that over time these probably loosen and become more sensitive or even stuck. This might explain the auto-selecting in the erratic behavior of the trackpad.
As a workaround, I used a felt cloth (folded several times) to elevate the backside of the trackpad so that the bumpers no longer touch my desk. This takes a loose or stuck bumper switch out of the picture. Then I enabled the trackpad features for "Tap to click" and "Secondary click," which are located at:  System Preference > Trackpad > Point & Click.
Only if you have serious computer repair skills would I advise attempting to adjust the sensitivy of the bumper switch: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairing+Magic+Trackpad+Click+Feature/6171/1
As for myself, I'll be purchasing a new trackpad tomorrow morning. I love this device, but it seems that once the bumpers begin to wear out, they do so quite abruptly, and your best course is to get a replacement before pulling out any hair you still have left.
Again, my apologies about the mis-cue on the bluetooth issue. Good luck!

  • What did you replace your wireless mighty mouse with?

I am not happy with mine. What mouse did you replace yours with?

I've got an MX1000, I'll agree that it's quite nice. You may want to look around at Logitech's line. The MX1000 uses RF instead of bluetooth to transmit, though Logitech does offer a line of bluetooth mice. However, I've found that the bluetooth mice tend to be overpriced and lacking some features of their RF counterparts.
Currently, the top of the line Logitech cordless mouse is called the G7. It works much like the MX1000 (with a laser instead of LED) but runs at a higher DPS. It also includes two battery packs with an external charger so that you can use the mouse while charging a battery pack. I'm not sure of the price for the G7, but you should be able to find a MX1000 for $40-$50 US.

  • Mighty Mouse Changes?

I wonder if the old wireless Mighty Mouse (the one with the grey side buttons) and newer wireless Mighty Mouse (one with side buttons) have any differences in the chipset it uses.
With the older grey side button one, I had jittery issues when my laptop was about 3.5 feet away with the top of the computer shut. Now, with the same setup, but with a new Mighty Mouse (white buttons) the issue seems to have gone.
    {Thanks to Apple Care, they have replaced my old Mighty Mouse which had scrolling issues that I couldn't solve.}

This is 100% reproduceable on my MBP, regardless wether I delete
a single file or a bunch of them or if the notebook was just rebootet etc.
    Still happens with 1.5.2

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Replacement

I dont know to whom I have to start begging, to actually get this done... But for the love of all that is good on this Earth, can Apple PLEASE replace my wireless mighty mouse, with a wired mighty mouse.
I've only owned my iMac for a few months, everything works fine, still covered under Apple Care, I just need to downgrade this mouse. The weight of this thing and how quickly it runs through batteries is becoming an issue for me. I'm a Tech Lead for a support call center, and regardless of policy I know this can be done if the right person gives the green light for it. You guys can keep the difference in cost, I'll provide whatever information is needed, I just really want to downgrade this mouse to the wired version...
    *PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE*
    Thank You,
    Charles

  • What wired 2-button mouse do you recommend to replace Mighty Mouse?

I’m looking for a wired 2-button mouse to replace the wired Mighty Mouse I got with my new 20” iMac purchased a year ago. I will appreciate any recommendations for a comfortable trouble-free mouse. Before I switched from a Windows machine to the iMac I used a Logitech MouseMan Wheel that was not only reliable but very comfortable to use. I’d like to find something comparable for use with the iMac.

Wow, that was fast. I can't find the button to click on for "helpful" for your post. Where did the button go? It did work on some earlier posts from you, but not all. Anyway, it begins to feel like we're almost out of the woods!
So a broadband router it is. I have zero motivation to try routing between IP subnets, happily.
Nice to have affirmation of the RV0041. It seemed to be the highest level before jumping all the way to Cisco. Yeah, the Telenet firewall configuration requirement on the Zywall 5 was something to choke on. Oh—I did find one review on it. The writer, an IT tech, emphasized in all capitals that a user has to have extensive knowledge of configuring these things BEFORE getting a Zywall. So the Zywall seems to also fit squarely into the IT pro department. On the RV0041, I thought the Gigabit switch feature was very fine.
Actually I have the software firewall "NetBarrier" installed already. Kind of sounds as if a lot of the functions of a network appliance are largely duplicated by NetBarrier. It's given me alerts in real time for attempted port scanning, for example. I do want fast page loading, so the performance lag using a network security device seems like a marked disadvantage.
Would a combination of NetBarrier and the RV0041 largely provide equivalent protection compared to a network security device? I'm willing to live with less protection to an extent to avoid slowing things down.
    Once again, many thanks indeed

  • Where is the support forum for Mighty Mouse?

    Hello,
does Apple have a support forum for Mighty Mouse.
my Mighty Mouse will not scroll down...
    all information will be appreciated,
    thank you..!

does Apple have a support forum for Mighty Mouse.
No there is not a specific forum for the Mighty Mouse, generally you would normally post in the peripherals/input section of the forum related to your Mac, so if you have an iMac post in the iMac section.

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse & No Bluetooth

    Hi
Some time back when my MacPro was still in warranty I complained to Apple that my Mighty Mouse wasn't working. They sent me a replacement - a wireless Mighty Mouse. I have no Bluetooth so I complained and they sent me a wired one.
Now I've got to thinking there's times when I could do with getting that wireless mouse to run....
Can anyone explain how to do this? Can I just buy a dongle or some such to stick in a USB port? Or is that not possible with this machine?
    Thanks in anticipation
    Jim

Hi Kappy - you're right in thinking my MacPro came without - it was a Refurb, so the basic model.
Appreciate your point that some BT to USB adaptors may be better than others, and I'll google for suggestions which might be best for MacPro - had hoped someone here might have knowledge of what works and what doesn't.
Meanwhile I'm 100 miles of Scottish highland roads from the nearest Apple retailer, so I'll see if anything emerges from websearches before I pack it up for the journey!!
    thanks for your help
    Jim

  • Mighty Mouse will not scroll up!

I didn't know where to post this but since this is the most popular place for the mighty mouse, I decided to post here.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get the little scroll ball to scroll up?
    It stopped working last night.
It will scroll down but not up.
    Any suggestions!!!!
    Thanks,
    Sam

Mine has stopped scrolling down - - again.
I first thought it was a mechanical thing - dirt or something in the mechanism.
Once, though, a reboot got it working.
Now it only scrolls up, not down.
Even when it was working, the scroll up was smooth, but the scroll down was jerky and uneven.
If it continues, I will return it for a replacement.
This seems to be one Apple's flops.

  • Mighty Mouse Scroll Ball always breaks

Hi, I have a 2 month old iMac, and This has been a problem for about 6 weeks, but I haven't gotten around to posting it. My mighty mouse scroll ball breaks repeatedly and I have been fixing it, but it is a real pain. Don't suggest not using my mighty mouse, because I love and hate it, I love how it has multiple buttons, but hate how the scroll ball breaks all the time, can someone help me?

It just needs cleaning. Use a damp cotton rag and vigorously move it across the mouse ball. Do this for about 30 seconds. BTW, there are instructions in your owners manual about this. This is from page 63 of your Users Guide:
    *Cleaning Your Mighty Mouse*
You may need to clean your mouse from time to time to remove dirt and dust that has
accumulated in the scroll ball area. Hold the mouse upside-down and roll the scroll ball
vigorously with the cloth that came with your iMac, or another clean, soft, lint-free
cloth, to help dislodge any particles that may interfere with proper scrolling.
