Suggestion - Cross links in the Developer Forums

Hi - this is a suggestion for a trivial modification to the Developer forums.
I regularly read and contribute to the "Developer" and "Software Development 101" forums; looking at the names of the other contributors, I'm not the only one. It would be really helpful if there were a direct cross link from the Developer to the Software Development 101 forum, and another back from SD101 to the Developer forum. This would avoid having to navigate up a level and navigate downwards again.
Alternatively, the SD101 forum could be moved back as a sub-forum of the Developer forum, as was the case when SD101 was first created.
Thanks for considering this.
Bob

Hello Dave,
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I personally experienced this problem. We already reported this to our web admin. Thanks for letting us know.

  • Improvement request for the developer forums(s)

Is there any way to tweak the developer forum a little so user's can see the proper way to format code when making a post? There is no mention in the help. The Compose tab only has bold, italic, underline, and spellcheck. Somewhere on the *Post Message: New Topic* screen there needs to be something telling the user to use {code} around their code to format it properly.
I have been trying to inform newer users over there but it gets tiring after a while.
    Thanks.

Even better - a button on the compose form that would insert the magic goo for us!
Seriously this is a mess with all of the new iPhone developers coming onto the forms and putting code in their posts and then the responses from the usual suspects that they should use the tags, followed by questions of how do I use the tags,...

  • Link to the Spry Forums under the DW categories.

    Hello,
All of the Dreamweaver forums are scattered with Spry questions because people do not know where to the find the Spry forums. As its under Labs instead of dreamweaver, because Spry is still in "prerelease".
If its all listed in one topic is easier for users to find answers to there questsion instead of having to search 4 different places on the forums to hopefully find the answer they are looking for.
Don't think that the Search options are going to help you find the Spry forums because the massive amount of options put in the category select lack of any autosuggest feature and the size makes it an immense task to even find the category you are looking for.
    So what I suggest is..
1, move the Spry Labs forum under the Dreamweaver category listing
    or
2, provide a forwarding link in the dreamweaver category listing to the correct location for Spry questions.
When I talk about the Dreamweaver category listing I'm talking about this page:

    Hi Craig,
I updated the field with my T-Shirt size.

  • I want to report an add-on bug, but there's no contact link for the developer

I can't see how to contact Tomislav Jovanovic here:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/modesttab/
But there's a note on the above page that reads "Please do not post bug reports in reviews" ~ so what do I do ? Thank you

The contact info inside the options for the add-on are just these two links:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/modesttab/?src=api
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/5250862/?src=api
    Google hasn't helped either

  • Link to Developer forums missing

I have previously posted topics in 'Developer Forums -> Software Development 101', but am unable to locate a link to the Developer Forums from the Discussions page. In order to get back to the developer forums I must click 'My Posts' on the side bar. Am I missing something?

The only way to get to the Developer Forums group is via the top-leve Mac OS X Technologies forum: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=162

  • TS1702 I did all of the above recommendations and still Biblexpress is not working. Should not the developer have an update to care for the problem?

I did all of the above recommendations and still Biblexpress is not working. Should not the developer have an update to care for the problem?

You should contact the developer directly to inform them of any issues.
There should be links in the App and if not, there should be links
to the developer's site and support in their presentation in the App Store.

  • Request for iPhone developer forum

There has been a recent influx of new iPhone developers in the developer forums. They often don't identify their problem as being specific to the iPhone. You have to look at what they are talking about and see that it is all iPhone stuff. Apparently the iPhone SDK is significantly different enough that answers to basic questions for MacOS X development are not correct for the iPhone SDK.
If there were an iPhone SDK forum they might be more inclined to put iPhone-specific questions in there.

I completely agree with the previous sentiments for an iPhone developer forum. Why?
I am part of the problem. I have come into the Apple development process "solely" to work on the iPhone. I know nothing about Mac OS X. Because of that I was astounded that the iPhone documentation was not "iPhone" but rather Xcode documentation. Yes I understand that there is a great deal of overlap BUT from my point of view it looks as though Apple was extremely lazy in just dumping all of their code and documentation on the iPhone developer. They need about 5 editors to weed out what is and is not iPhone. Just my two cents.

  • TS1702 How do u find the developer contact details for an app?

I bought an ipad app that won't open, how do. Contact the developer for assistance?

    Loverton wrote:
It's amazing to me that Apple has managed to make a process that is seemless and intuitive on an Android and make it completely mysterious. How about providing a link to the developer site along with the description of the app Apple? Instead you make me do a search for it? Pathetic.
I know nothing about the Android OS but I have used Apple products exclusively for computing and iDevices. I wholehearted agree with your statements.
IIRC, prior to iOS 6 - you could search for an app using Google, click on the link in the Google page and it would take you to an iTunes store description of the app. The full blown iTunes computer version of the app description. Now doing the same takes you to the App Store and you get some sort of half-baked, crappy, description which is incomplete, with no developer contact information. There is no workaround other than to find the developer's website via an search engine.
It gets worse with every new iOS update. Sometimes simplicity is not the best approach.

  • Can't 'create account' for developer forums. (iOS)

I have an iOS dev membership, and everything else is working. But I can't access the developer forums.
I get stuck at the Create Account screen where I have to "Specify a Screen Name". I choose a screen name, press the Create Account button, a wait spinner appears and then nothing happens. No error message, and no access.
Anyone else having problems accessing the developer forums?

I had the same issue as ron lauge

in my case, it turned out the issue was having two AppleId's both pointing to the same email (one of them was an old work based id, one was my 'real' apple ID)-- somehow that gunked up my primary account.
And to solve it, I went into my old account and tried to access the developer forums from there, then I had to click renew (tho I didnt actually renew) and then went back to my current account and it worked fine.

  • Why can I not find the support forums??

I thought mozilla firefox was superior for a long time until today. It may still be the best browser but this website is unacceptable. I mean how do you expect people to find the support forums. The is no link, no nothing on the mozilla support home page. I mean all I wanted to do was go and find my question in the support forums, sure I can go to my profile and find my question from there, but i should be able to navigate to the forums and my question without having to go through the idiotic process you people have laid forth. Unless you guys can provide a reasonable explanation for your thinking then you really need to make a link to the support forums on at least the SUPPORT HOME PAGE. I mean for real it is the SUPPORT HOME PAGE after all, i cannot stress that enough.

On https://support.mozilla.org look at top for Contributor Tools in which it lists "Support Forum Home" among other things.
When you are on support.mozilla.org/questions you can click on "My contributions" near top. You may want to select All questions to make sure all of your posts are listed with most recent activity threads being listed first.

  • Not Sure if this is the right forum but took a chance

I need to know the following information about the 3D tools used in photoshop.
How can it be used? What are the tools used for?
I need an example of how it can be used.
Where can the tool be found specifically,
I am taking a class and this is one tool I haven't a clue what it is or where it is. Please email me at [email protected]
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I am assuming you have Photoshop CS3, CS4, or CS5. If so, the 3D tools are only available in the Extended version of Photoshop.
Here is a link for the Photoshop forums. Select the forum that supports your OS.  If you ask on the Photoshop forum, be sure to say which version of Photoshop extended you have as the 3D tools have been updated each year.

Here is a list of videos on the subject:

I personally would not be a best one to give you the workflow as I have 3D applications that are designed to do this type of thing. I can ,however, pass along a tip that I figured out while working on a contest using a trial of CS5 Extended. (Make a folder and put the 3D object and the texture files in it together. If you don't put the texture files in with the 3D model, the texture doesn't come into Photoshop applied.)
Adobe help document and how to access 3D tools...
If you have CS5, look for a header that says 3D in your menu bar. There you will find the 3D options. 3D tool icons also appear in the tool box.

If you have CS3 or CS4, there isn't a menu item. You have to open a 3D object file. 3D tools only appear if a 3D object layer is selected in the layer's palette.

  • MacRumors vs ASC Developer Forums vs DevForums vs StackOverflow

Can anyone list out some of the strengths and weaknesses of these four developer forums?
    1. MacRumors
    2. The New Apple Support Community Developer Forum (The one we're in now)
    3. The Developer Forums at developer.apple.com
    4. StackOverflow
I've been getting mixed results at Stack Overflow, and getting sick of having to sort out objective-c hints from all of the other programming languages. And why would apple have two apple-sponsored developer forums, one here and one in the developer program? Is it assumed that here the questions should be more basic?

    Site
    My Opinion
    MacRumors
Not that popular. Not a good source for answers. Poor formatting capabilities. Free.
The New Apple Support Community Developer Forum
Getting more popular. A good source for answers. Excellent formatting capabilities. Free.
    The Developer Forums at developer.apple.com
Popular. A good source for answers. Good formatting. $99/year.
    StackOverflow
Very popular. A good source for answers. Good formatting. Free.
I think MacRumors is a waste of time. It always shows up on hits, but never has anything valuable.
The paid developer programs are an excellent value in many other ways. There is a lot of content, but I honestly haven't found any answers there - and not from lack of looking.
StackOverflow isn't much of a community. I have gotten solutions there, but also misinformation. It is a good starting point.
In all honesty, I've learned more here than at any of the other places.
You didn't ask about the Apple Mailing Lists. That is probably the highest signal-to-noise ratio of all - but the hardest to use.

  • Acces developer forum

I can't acces the developer forum. Whenever I try to I get this screen: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dqsnsgtvn731icg/Schermafbeelding%202013-06-11%20om%202 0.39.41.png
Is there any way to get around this? From within the normal support communities I was able to start this topic, but there is no other way to get there ..
Yes I have a developer account!

Go to http://developer.apple.com/, sign in to member's area.
Click on iOS dev center. (license agreement should be popping up above the SDK buttons)
    else
Click on iOS 7 SDK beta. (license agreement should at least pop up now)

  • Cross linked files

What is the solution(s) to preventing files from getting cross linked for projects that use same files?

If they use the same files don't you want them to be cross-linked in the first place? Or, (more likely) do you have copies of the files for each project, and you want to make sure each project only uses the file that are within the project's folders?
You should use projects and project libraries. From the LabVIEW Help:
Use project libraries to qualify the names of VIs and other
LabVIEW files. LabVIEW identifies VIs by filename, so LabVIEW unintentionally
might load and reference a VI because the VI has the same filename as another
VI, a problem known as cross-linking. When a VI is part of a project library,
LabVIEW qualifies the VI name with the project library name to avoid
cross-linking. A qualified filename includes the filename and the owning project
    library filename.

  • Suggestion: add a link to the forum

Some people ask question here in the community page for SQLA, I would like to suggest to provide them a simple access to the SQLA Forum, so that a one stop for questions and answers exists.

I agree... although the UI here has improved (it is no longer execrable, merely unusable)
