Suggestion for Alt Discussion Forums?

Since Apple's Discussion area is solely provided for support purposes ("help, this isn't working", "how do you do xyz", etc) I was hoping some of the folks here could suggest other general discussion boards that they like. For example, I really want to talk with other users about many of the cool iPhone Apps (which ones they prefer, tips on how to use them better, ... that sort of thing). But I'd also like a place to talk about all things Apple/Mac ("I heard this", "do you think that's going to be a feature of the next version", "wouldn't it be cool if ...?"). Thanks in advance.

We agree: there is great potential synergy between the forums and wiki experiences.
This is a direction in which we would like to go, but the destination is not on the horizon yet.

  • Looking for Eclipse discussion forums

I've recently started using Eclipse. Despite its greatness, I still occasionally run into problems. I've tried searching for Eclipse discussion forums on the web, but found none. So if you know any good Eclipse discuss forums on the web, please let me know. Since I'm running Eclipse on Mac OS X, any Mac-friendly forum would be extra good.
    TIA,
    Eric

Have you two tried a google search?

  • Suggestions for Good AJAX forum/newsgroup/mailing list?

I'm in need of a rather specific UI implementation and I've
    found plenty of
AJAX libraries that ALMOST give me what I want out of the
    box, but nothing
that exactly matches. I need to find out which of the
    libraries is best
suited to modifications to do what I need and have no idea
    where to start.
Can anyone suggest a relatively active AJAX discussion group?
    I've found a
handful of forums, but none that are actually active.

Good, generic, Ajax forums, are hard to find (I am still
    looking for one
myself). Library specific forums are usually very good
    instead, I know the
ones from YUI and jQuery are worth following. Of course, they
become more useful *after* you pick your library...

  • Right place to submit bug reports for the discussions forums?

I know you can post suggestions here regarding how the Discussions system may be improved, but I'd just like to record a bug somewhere and then be informed if and when it is ever fixed. I'm thinking of something like the bugreporter web app that apple makes available. Anyone know about anything like that?

    You'd be surprised.
    With pleasure!
Try it with bugreport.apple.com. Need to be a registered ADC Member, but that frees. Be sure to pick a bug that is reproducible with a simple step by step recipe on the most current software.
So what is this bug you have been talking about?
    Recurring complaint of mine:
March 2006 [If the RSS feeds contained pubDate and author that would be great!|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1892109#1892109]
April 2008 [better rss feeds without jf namespace prefix|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1468264&tstart=189]
The RSS feeds are almost useful. They actually include the author and create date information, but do so in a format that neither safari or any other garden variety RSS reader handles.
Jive's own documentation on the subject [Jive Community: Content Syndication via RSS|http://www.jivesoftware.com/community/docs/DOC-1022] recommends reformatting the output to suit the needs of your audience in the section titled "*Displaying RSS (or, actually doing something with this stuff)*".
It seems the jf: prefixed tags aren't meant to be pushed out to the RSS clients. I certainly haven't found a RSS reader that deals with them correctly or lets you workaround them. So although the feeds have a creation date, modification date, author, and reply count, none of that information can be seen in a garden variety RSS reader. This is particularly a problem for the create date, since the create date of each article is replaced with the pub date of the feed. The pub date of the feed is the time when you pull it down, and that changes each time the feed is refreshed.
Anyway ... it seems to me that it would be a small and correct change that would take the existing RSS offerings that last inch into the realm of useful. Maybe I'll be surprised.

  • Suggestion for improvements to forum search

    Hi,
It would be useful if I could save search criteria under my profile as "Saved searches" - e.g. a search for "Universal Worklist or UWL in the last 7 days".
It would also be great if I could save a set of search terms and get an RSS feed of the results.
That would enable me to monitor forums for posts in my specific area of expertise.
    Cheers,
    Darren

Just for the record, I second this suggestion. I'd rather have a 'search results' than the current 'Forum watch' notifications.  A new problem that has arisen with the plethora of new forums is that people get confused and tend to post stuff all over the place. I simply do not have the time to monitor more than one forum.
e.g. there's a forum for WebAS Preview but half the people having problems with it are posting in "Trials, Previews and Code Samples". Are they wrong? No, but I still have two forums to look at if I want to participate.
My own area of expertise (workflow) tends to be scattered around ABAP, BPX, EP (and others) as well as "BPM and Workflow".
    Cheers,
    Mike

  • Suggestion for Apple Discussion searches

I believe that many users will search a solution when they have a problem, either using the Advance Search on this Website or Search Discussion.
However, when we do the search under this Discussion, can we get the filter/option of "Restrict by solved or helpful cases"? As there are many messages with only have questions without any solution or suggestion.

    Hi Mitch 751,

  • Need your suggestions for developing a Forum Site using Adobe Flex

    Hi ,
I want to develop a small Forum Site where people can post questions and reply to questions .
I want to develop the whole thing using Adobe Flex , Is there any plugin avialable for this .
Means i mean to ask , if i go for normal J2EE there is a JForum avialable as far as i know .
    Please share your ideas .

I meant "Don't use flex" unless you have some superb new design for a forum. I suspect that if you already had such a design, you wouldn't need to ask the question. Flex for Flex sake isn't good.
There are already great html forum solutions out there.
Basically, there's no point in duplicating in Flex what is already done in HTML, unless the Flex version offers a significant improvement to the user experience in some way.
I am not aware of any Flex forum implementations and there is probably a good reason for that.
Maybe someone else will know of one.

  • Suggestion for the Certification forum

A large number of questions in the Certification forum would be answered either by going to the Education -> Certification page or into the Certification FAQ.
Perhaps the OCP guys could add the links in the forum title area, just like the links and information are provided for this forum.

Useful info.... as product - related forums are full of questions regrading OCP.....

  • Projet : java based discussion forum

    hi all,
i am planning to build a project based upon JAVA.
the base concept is to build a java based discussion forum.
this is my first independent project so can anyone please suggest answers to following questions :
    (1) how to start building a project.
    (2) for text editor in my project should i use any existing editor or should i create editor on my own.
    thanks
    pratz

and for the editor related question may be i was not clear with the question.
actually i wanted to ask about the editor that the end user will use in my application to post his thought but ill appreciate if you could have asked me that for which editor i am asking the question instead of directly saying that i am not ready to build a project, that is really discouraging.Well, I'm just giving you honest feedback. If you don't even know how to start a project, then a discussion forum is probably a bit out of your reach.
As for your question about the editor. I assume you're creating a web based discussion forum? Then the "editor" would be just a regular HTML textbox (most likely) that the user would fill with his text.
But maybe you'll want to start with something smaller. For a discussion forum you'll need to know how to use databases, create web user interfaces and handle all sorts of other things. Do you know how to do those or did you think (like so many others here) that you'll just pick those up along the way?

  • Discussion Forum  - Retain Portal Login

    Hi all,
Hope I'm in the right place for this.
We are looking to install a discussion forum solution (currently running 9.0.4.1.0 - Build: 129).
Ideally we would like the forum to work in the following way:
A user logs into the portal, clicks on 'Discussion Forum' tab and posts a message. We would like the message to insert their login name (#USER.FULLNAME#) along with their message i.e. the user doesnt have to register to the forum, or enter their name or email.
Is this possible with any of the forums out there?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi There,
    <p/>
You could check out the Oracle Provider for Jive Discussion Forums on Portal Integration Solutions page. You will need to buy Jive Discussion Forums and then install the providers.
    <p/>
What you are asking for is definitely possible as the portlets provide a single sign-on mechanism to the users.
    <p/>
    thanks

  • Blog, Discussion Forum, Basic CMS Features

    Hello,
I am exploring HTML at the moment. I was wondering if it has any applications modules for features like:
    Blogs
    Discussion Forums
Basic CMS Features (Authoring, Versioning, Workflow approval)
    Download lists
Thank you in anticipation of your kind comments and thoughts.
    Regards,
    Colin.

I'm just looking for the same...
Saw one of the new packaged apps was for a Discussion forum at
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/packaged_apps/discussion_forum_0.91.zip
But its not exactly what I need.
Anyone know or want to share a CMS type of app?
Basically one that allowed you publish articles etc... similar to what Joomla/Mambo etc do?
    Would be really useful!

  • Suggest creat a new forum for Customer Service

The below is my shopping experience in Apple Online shop:
I order a new ipad to my freind as a gift on 11Aug2010. I just wanted to clarify the derivery date as my friend would leave HongKon from 24Aug.
Therefore,I have tried to contact HK Apple hotline and Courier(TNT), I kept calling them during 2.5 hours but no one pickup the phone or their lines were always busy. They just gave me some music and asked to wait unit it hang up. I visited their website, ask me to contact them via their ??HOTLINE?? I wasted my time and money(long distance calls).
I cant find any enquiry e-mail in your website and forum. Therefore I suggest to add a forum regarding Customer Service, as a pathform of us to discuss about your customer service.
finally, I am very disappointed about the service of HK Apple Shop, I will not order any products from your online shop if i need to wait for your delivery.
I would be gratful if you consider my suggestion.
    Regards

  • Suggestion for new Forum

Hi. I have noticed several questions in the other forums regarding accessories and products to buy for their ipod, ect. these really are not technical questions and do not really belong in the (for example) ipod forum, but have no other place to go. So i was thinking that a forum where people could discuss products and what works well for them and suggest these to other people looking for a product. Also, this could/would be a place for people to ask what would be something good to buy to, lets say, listen to their ipod through their home stereo and or charge. This is just an idea, and i hope it is something to be seen later here in Apple Discussions. Anyone else that thinks that this or something else like it is a good idea, i would very much like to see your input. Thanks. *KatBT

  • Suggestion for new Forum - Software Quality Assurance & Testing

Hi - I'm active in ASUG and a SIG Chair for Software Quality Assurance SIG.  I'm new to SDN and looked around a bit for where topics related to Software QA, Testing, Test tools & methodologies, etc. would be posted and discussed.  I haven't found any relevant forums.  A couple postings on SAP TAO (test tool) landed in the Solution Manager forum... looks like they were searching for a relevant home too.
We have good content and discussions on these topics on asug.com and I'd like to facilitate bringing some of these topics to the larger SDN community.  I started a blog, we sponsor webinars, etc.  What would you think of having a forum on SDN called Software Quality Assurance & Testing?  Or are there other suggestions for where I would start discussing this?  Maybe the forum's out there already but I just can't find it?
    Thanks!

    Count me in!
Currently the security aspects of good software development don't have a real home either, and are distributed over SCN in a rather thin and adhoc fasion by a few folks.
I am sure that such a forum would attract a lot of new attention to SCN on the customer side, as it is important for them.
It would also be irrefutable that the SCN Rules of Engagement are applied strictly to such a forum
    Cheers and good idea!
