Suggestion for new Forum - Software Quality Assurance & Testing

Hi - I'm active in ASUG and a SIG Chair for Software Quality Assurance SIG.  I'm new to SDN and looked around a bit for where topics related to Software QA, Testing, Test tools & methodologies, etc. would be posted and discussed.  I haven't found any relevant forums.  A couple postings on SAP TAO (test tool) landed in the Solution Manager forum... looks like they were searching for a relevant home too.
We have good content and discussions on these topics on asug.com and I'd like to facilitate bringing some of these topics to the larger SDN community.  I started a blog, we sponsor webinars, etc.  What would you think of having a forum on SDN called Software Quality Assurance & Testing?  Or are there other suggestions for where I would start discussing this?  Maybe the forum's out there already but I just can't find it?
Thanks!

Count me in!
Currently the security aspects of good software development don't have a real home either, and are distributed over SCN in a rather thin and adhoc fasion by a few folks.
I am sure that such a forum would attract a lot of new attention to SCN on the customer side, as it is important for them.
It would also be irrefutable that the SCN Rules of Engagement are applied strictly to such a forum
Cheers and good idea!
Julius

If this is done, I feel we'll have many less requests to move posts.  Though I'm sure there will still be those who won't post in the right place.
    Thank you.

Given that we've got people posting about iPhones in the Podcasts forum, credit cards in the Using ASC forum, anything under the sun in the AppleWorks forum, and trying to treat any forum as a social networking service ('Hi, my name is....') I'm sure you're right.

  • Suggestion for new Forum

Hi. I have noticed several questions in the other forums regarding accessories and products to buy for their ipod, ect. these really are not technical questions and do not really belong in the (for example) ipod forum, but have no other place to go. So i was thinking that a forum where people could discuss products and what works well for them and suggest these to other people looking for a product. Also, this could/would be a place for people to ask what would be something good to buy to, lets say, listen to their ipod through their home stereo and or charge. This is just an idea, and i hope it is something to be seen later here in Apple Discussions. Anyone else that thinks that this or something else like it is a good idea, i would very much like to see your input. Thanks. *KatBT

  • Suggestion for New Forum Improvement/Upgrade

    To the PTB:
Would it be possible under the "my posts" section to change the little blue bubbles that indicate,
"New content since your last visit"
and "Updated content since your last visit"
to different colors? Make each one an obvious separate color one Red and one Blue, or Red and Green, etc...
My eyes are good, but not good enough to discern a full bubble from a 1/2 bubble..
    thanks.

  • Suggestions for new Sci-Fi on Vision

    Hi Guys,
The Vision Programming Team have asked for Sci-Fi TV suggestions from Vision users, that we would like to see available via On Demand.
So, via an email from Mod DavidM, I was asked to start a new thread, because they want our feedback. And 'FRINGE' has now been added to the Sci-Fi category (via the 'Serious Lack of' thread). So they do listen!
So to kick off...my last post on the other, main Sci-Fi thread...
Sci-Fi I'd like to see on Vision...
The DUNE and CHILDREN OF DUNE TV mini series (original novels by Frank Herbert).
They are both donkey's years old (2000 & 2003) and so wouldn't cost that much to purchase.
Both mini series won numerous Emmy awards and were also rated as two of the top three highest-rated programs ever to be broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel.
Battlestar Galactica. Both the TV mini series and the full TV series (the highest ever rated show on the Sci-Fi Channel), which Sky aired between 2003 - 2009. Pure quality.
Also, as another plus, none of the above have ever been aired on British terrestrial television. So lots of potential for new viewers.
Anyone else with any gems you would like to see?
    Rank - Mostly Harmless.

    Hi
I am loving Fringe and I really liked series one of The Legend of the Seeker so looking forward to Season 2 when its possible
I am a total Sci Fi freak as is the rest of my family here are a list of some of the stuff we have watched over the years and lately that we like.
Star Trek - any of the series ie Enterprise, any of the captains
    Earth Final conflice
    Buck Rogers
Science fiction theatre - old fashioned stories
V either the old or the New I have not seen the New actually
space 1999 - loved this when I was a kid not sure how it would look now
The bionic man / women used to be good
    The Avengers
Lost in Space - probably not everyones cup of tea
Alien Nation - I was 50 50 on this one
Stargate any of the series watched them all and enjoyed them
    Tales from the Crypt
    Andromeda
    Firefly
    Quantum Leap
Dark Angel - this story line was  different
    The Outer Limits
    Xena
    Hercules
    Sliders
    Dr Who
    Torchwood
    The Twilight Zone
    X Files
Just some of the good stuff out there for Sci Fi fans would love to see more of it On Demand

  • Need for new forum/category

Considering that this forum/category (HCM Payroll Germany, Austria & Switzerland (DACH)) has been created more than a month ago and that not a single thread has been posted in it, and considering that the forum/category "ERP HCM (HR)" often sees more than 60 threads with postings per day,
could you please consider to create at least one or two new forum/category to help sub-divide the ERP HCM (HR).
Possibly ERP HCM - Payroll and ERP HCM - Time Management (and rename the other one ERP HCM - HR) ?
    Remi
i have moved the thread from (HCM Payroll Germany, Austria & Switzerland (DACH) to suggestion and comments forum for better responses from sCN
Edited by: Sikindar on Oct 25, 2010 12:50 PM

And I have tried to post something in the "Idea Place", both from work and from home, and keep getting problems logging on, even when I'm already logged-in through the SAP Community Network.
Since my Passport has expired, I'm trying to get a new one from Marketplace, but i couldn't find the link yesterday.
As I have mentioned before, I believe at least one new thread is required due to the daily volume of postings.
I had initially posted in the  "HCM Payroll Germany, Austria & Switzerland (DACH)" thread, then tried to post it in the "ERP HCM (HR)", and I will try to post it again in the "Idea Place" when possible.
While in the "Idea Place", I'll have to ask why the forum "SAP ERP HCM - Payroll North America" mentions that it is for SAP, ERP and HCM, while none of the others mention SAP, and some like the new "HCM Payroll Germany, Austria & Switzerland (DACH)"  don't include ERP in their description.

  • Thanks Adobe! I LOVE this new forum software!

As someone who belongs to many, many forums over the years, I've gone through a lot of forum software changes. Generally, the vocal majority raise heck about it, but eventually things settle down and people go about their regular forum use with little effort.
These new forums are so much "easier on the eyes" than the mind-numbing sea of text we currently have. Some like the new colors, some hate it. Some like avatars & signatures, and some don't. But the reason you come here is for the information, and this new software WILL make it easier to find what you're looking for.
Macworld.com switched to this very same software last year. They had an obscenely large user base, all of which voiced their opinions repeatedly, to the point where many simply stopped visiting until the switchover was complete. In general, those that don't like change tend to voice their opinions the loudest. The vast majority though, tend to keep quiet and roll with changes. Today, Macworld's forums are running just fine, offer a plethora of new features, and are more active than they ever were previously.
I have no heavy interest in what Adobe does with these forums because I rarely visit the current ones - mostly because I find them absolutely unreadable. But I'm also betting I'll be using them a whole lot more once this switchover is complete. In fact, I KNOW I will.
Rather than complaining about change in general, colors, icons, avatars, signatures, bloated code, or whatever silly reason some are coming up with, time would be better spent simply helping to find bugs with what is there. Once the bugs are worked out, Adobe will most likely start looking at "fine-tuning" the look & feel.

    > What I have noticed is that there is a totally different set of aesthetic values being exhibited here between the Users of the Adobe Professional Graphic Arts applications (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) and the people who are almost entirely geared to AV or to web site work and the use of the formerly Macromedia products (such as Dreamweaver).
Ann, you may be correct. But if functionality is truly the most important feature of Adobe Forums, the WebX format falls dramatically short for my own applications:
WebX screws any code or script posted, generally making it unusable. For this reason, the Script and Expression areas of the After Effects forum are virtually non-existent. Users go to other places to discuss these features, because it's not practical to do so on the current forums.
A picture tells a thousand words. When new users come to the WebX forums and want to post a screen grab of their problem project, it's embarrassing to tell them they need to use an external image host to do so.
Video tells ten thousand words. The ability to easily embed YouTube and other online video content into a post is not just a great convenience, it's a way to teach, inform and demonstrate within the forum, rather than sending users somewhere else mid-discussion.
I share a number of your criticisms about the Jive Forums, but for me and the community which uses my frequented forums, the Jive system also offers features which are essential for productive use. As I suspect the new system, like the old, will evolve over time, I'm happy to embrace the positives of the change, and hope that any major problems can be resolved in time.

  • Suggestions for new external HD

I have a G4 powerbook with 80 GB of HD which is pretty much maxed out. Looking for an external HD to transfer pics on to, and to do some backup with. (Currently i use my iDisk for backup of my Documents folder, so haven't really needed Backup). Any suggestions for a good ext HD though? LaCie? Toshiba?
Also, I'm thinking I should upgrade my 512 of memory to full gig of memory. All this doesn't need me to lead me down the path of a new MacBook instead, does it?!

    GoBraves:
Since you have a PowerPC Mac you should be sure to get a Firewire external HDD. This will enable you to make a bootable clone which will do double duty as a full backup and as an emergency boot drive.
Be sure that the HDD that you get is larger enough. Since they drives are now quite affordable I would not suggest anything less than 250 GB. You can partition this clone your HDD to a partition approximately the size of your internal HDD.
The element in a Firewire Drive that fails most often is the firewire bridge. You need to get a drive with the more reliable Oxford 911+ chipset like one of these external firewire HDDs at OWC.
    Good luck.

  • Suggestions for new iMac, hard drive and Thunderbolt vs FW800 vs USB3?

Ordering a new iMac 27" and leaning toward fusion drive,  and wondering if anyone has any suggestion or experiance with this drive? Any suggestions for drives would be welcome.
I am going to have to decide what to do as far as storage and I assume USB3 will be the best choice - been using FW800 and lots of new things coming.
Thanks for any input and suggestions.
    Don

anybody have any comments on the use of Thunderbolt vs USB3? I am using FW800 not and will be changing my 2 external drives. I have to keep FW800 on them so I am able to daisey-chain them. My use is normal and wondering if I should stay with USB3 & FW800 for external or make the TM drive a Thunderbolt. Those seem to be priced higher just wanted some suggestions, recommendations.
    Thanks,

  • Suggestions for new features & improvements to LCCS/ICS service

Firstly Hello, I am James from Influxis. if you got a suggestion for a possible improvements or new features to LCCS/ICS feel free to add your suggestions below and we look into it.
    Thanks,
    James

    Hi James,
With the offering from Adobe, it was possible to have a free account with $15/month of service offered.
It was really useful to developp applications, or to make demos applications for clients, and then paying when the application takes off only.
Does Influxis plan to offer something similar?

  • Getting help with the new forum software

Searching for some help I located the Jive 6.0 community user help and thought I could share this information.
    http://docs.jivesoftware.com/jive/6.0/community_user/index.jsp
It provides explanations and examples and seems to be useful.
For instance, what does threaded and flat mean in the Profile preferences?
Type "flat view" in the search field to get the answer.
    How to use the editor?
    Search for "content editor".
    etc, etc.

    Thanks, Dude for this.
Just in addition, from a previous discussion it has been said this new forum runs on Jive 5.0.5.
And you can actually check it out, open the source code of the current page, you'll see a lot of 5.0.5 references, such as
    window._jive_resource_url = prepareUrl("/5.0.5/")
    kjs.load('/5.0.5/resources/scripts/gen/8955a433291e9fdcf40ae92adce79aae.js', [ ]);
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="/5.0.5/styles/jive.css" type="text/css" media="all" />
       <link rel="stylesheet" href="/5.0.5/styles/jive-icons.css" type="text/css" media="all" />
    etc.

  • Petition for new forum - wireless mu

I want to start a petition for Creative to begin a new forum dedicated to the Wireless Music product. These discussion forums are nearly useless for the wireless music. If the Wireless Music had it's own forum I think we would see many more posts of problems, and possible get some attention from Creative on solving them. Please vote to start up this new forum.

    Wizard,
We probably won't get our own forum, but... One thing I've found is that the Subject line of all messages about wireless music contain the word "wireless". I've built a URL address that I now have in my IE Favorites that does the job for me. It gets all messages with the word "wireless" in the subject line and lists them in descending order by date. This is as close as I can get you to what you want without SoundBlaster giving us our own forum. You may need to re-assemble this to a single line link...

    Hope this hel

  • Password reset for new forum

I had to set up a new account to get into the new forums.  Everytime I use my old sign-in and password, it tells me that I must reset my password and an email has been sent.  I never get that email.  When I comment on one of the old posts that I had also commented on from that sign-in, I get email updates at the old address.  I can't even make them stop.  I can't find anywhere on here to contact someone for help.
Verizon is fast becoming my least favorite company in the world.

I tried to log-in a short while ago, as well, and got a message that the NEW Forum requires a Password re-set.  I did, however, get the e-mail which you referred to, but when I used the links in the e-Mail from VZW to attempt to re-set my Password it responded that the "token" (aka temp password) was "invalid" and would not allow me to change my Password from the "temp" one to my newly requested/re-set one.  I tried several times using the same and different methods to use the "change" page they provided - to no avail.
However, I went back to the Forum page and I was logged in - go figure.  I am replying to this using my old log-in P'word and it didn't ask me to re-set this time.  I can't understand this but that is what I experienced.
