If your PC application is in java and suitable for the limitations of CLDC / MIDP, I really don't see any barrier -- of course, you may have to sacrifice much of the layout and possibly some of the functionality. Hard to say without knowing exactly what you have in mind.
Simple core java classes require no conversion and can be adopted into your mobile app. MIDlet is the basic application class, roughly (only roughly) corresponding to Applet for larger platforms.
So... I'm assuming that you're already reasonably famililar with the java language and syntax, and have a worked with a code editor and / or IDE. If that is the case, I would suggest you download and install NetBeans (if you don't already have it) and work through some of the mobility tutorials.
    www.netbeans.org/downloads/
The javadocs for jsr-118 (included with NB) will also help. More complete docs and code samples are available in plenty, google java j2me CLDC MIDP sample codes.
For Nokia-specific features, you may want to download the Nokia SDK and integrate it into NetBeans. Series 60 SDK 2.0 for Symbian OS is available at
    http://software.techrepublic.com.com/download.aspx?docid=78818
    (and many other places)
But I strongly recommend that you focus on device-independent applications, and use device-specific features only where absolutely necessary.
Hey - I'd never used java before (I do have experience in various other programming languages) and I had a centimetre-inch convertor up and running on my Motorola handset just 2 days after installing NetBeans.
You know java, you may do better :-)
    All the best, Darryl
Note: Download WTK 2.5 separately and integrate into NetBeans, the WTK 2.2 which comes bundled with NB has a few bugs :-(

  • When will windows 8.1 be available for nokia phones

when will windows 8.1 be available for nokia phones?

I wish I had some way to give you hope but unfortunately you're definitely not the first person to ask this question.  VZW has made it clear that they aren't in the customer service business so we now must take matter into our own hands.  Write directly to the CEO.
You can contact Mr. Daniel S. Mead (CEO) by going to www.verizon.com/about/leader/contact/73.
Maybe if enough of us say something they'll try to at least pretend they appreciate our money.

  • GMX email provider for Nokia phones?

    http://www.gmx.com
My current  US based email provider is going to shut down its operations thus I am in need of another email operator.  GMX should support mobile phones.  Any good European based email operators suitable for Nokia phones you may know.? I am looking for email operators in France, Italy  or Germany , Japan or Spain with English User Interface.  No Nokia's  email or Hotmail or Yahoo  or Gmail please!
If you do know a good email provider please let us know. (works well with Nokia phones)
Cons and pros of GMX if you have been using it.
    Many thanks!

Any e-mail provider supporting IMAP will be fine.
I use runbox.com (based in Norway) and it works perfectly, with Nokia Messaging, Profimail and Mobile Documents.

    Hi,
yeah I can recommend - get Sun ONE Studio 5, Mobile Edition (http://wwws.sun.com/software/sundev/jde/studio_me/early_access.html). That's pretty much about it (obfuscation included, .JAR file creation in no-time).

  • EXTERNAL RAM FOR NOKIA PHONES

Nokia, won't it be better to make phones with the option of an external RAM just like you have it in computers and also like space for memory card, instead of making phones that are low in memory like C5-03 and co. You should consider this feature in your subsequent phones for better performance of phones that are low in memory.

PC-type (even those for laptops) DRAM memory modules are huge (when contrasted to what the regular components of a phone are), and requires additional space and components, making the phones bigger, adding to the cost of the device, increasing failure rate, complicating testing, etc.
I don't see this happening for mobile phones by Nokia or anyone any time soon.

  • Temporary signature for Nokia phones?

    Hi
I am looking for a way of signing a midlet with a temporary signature for development purposes for a Nokia phone.
I know that in the Motorola iden SDK there is a function which signs the midlet with a signature that lasts 48 hours and works even on the actual device.
does anyone know if there something similar for Nokia?
    Thanks
    Aharon

    Thanks
thats a very cool link, however I don't think my phone allows loading new certificates.
I'm using a Nokia 6110 navigator. When I loaded the certificate onto the phone the trust status only spoke about internet access but not App. Instalation

  • Offline wikipedia for nokia phones

I have just read an intersting article about putting the whole of wikipedia on the iphone. here is the article
    http://collison.ie/wikipedia-iphone/
just wondering if any one has built a similar app to work on nokia phones, or if any one could offer some advice on how to develop something similar for nokia phones

Yes, that would be a nice app to have on the N95 8GB!
(I'm not always within range of (reasonably priced) wireless internet access...)

  • Suggestions for sync phone w/Sprint service

I need a new phone for work and there seems to be such a limited number that will work with my employer's Sprint service and my new mac's isync feature. I am in sales and my boss would like to keep it to $60 or so (with the rebate/new service). Possible? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Karen

I've just looked at the Sprint web-site, and, unbelievably, it appears you cannot get ANY of the most popular and Mac-friendly phones from them at all: i.e. Sony Ericsson or Nokia.
Natively iSync supported phones are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/index.html
then there are others supported by third-parties here:
    http://www.novamedia.de/sync
    http://www.feisar.com/sync
    http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_windowsmobile.php
But from Sprint's rather pathetic offering, it appears you'll be limited to a MOTORAZR - but check that it is 100% iSync compatible because some mobile networks cripple the phones they sell.

  • User agent + suggestions for Nokia dev

I've been using N9 for 2 weeks now.
Two features coming from Android would be awesome (to me). The ability to sync one's pictures OTA from Picasa (or Flickr?) to the device so you don't have to sync pics between a computer and the phone. And a better "Google sync" in account center with contacts, calendar, Picasa Pictures and maybe Google Music?
    - Software suggestions: Video with Skype, Amazon Cloud Player or Google Music Player client,  equalizer for music, Live Messenger (MSN) integration.
Besides being able to modify the user agent in the browser would help us get iOS/Android formatted websites, like the brand new iOS Gmail interface.  Do you think iit would be possible to access the user agent or is Nokia's version of MeeGo rather locked?
    -- Ced

Why do you need this? What is the scenario you are trying to achieve?
Basing functionality on user agent sniffing is a really bad idea and leads to broken sites. Instead use feature detection to tell if features you need are available
    See
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2014/07/31/the-mobile-web-should-just-work-for-everyone.aspx for some discussion about the UserAgent choice.

  • Time server for Nokia Phone is note updated??

    Hi
    I am from Bangladesh.
When I select auto update for time and date, I can see that my phone timing is updated with DST. Bangladesh had DST for only one year (last year) on a test basis and then the government decided not to continue with it. The battery auxiliary battery of my Nokia 5233 seems to be week and the clock slows down substantially over time.  So, I need to the auto update. Hence it is big inconvenience for us to have DST time on the phone.
Hope Nokia will look into it.

hsrussel, post this thru' Contact Us tab at the top.. then it will be directed to Nokia..

  • Headset Adapter for nokia phones

Is there anything(any adapter) from nokia like ths one?
    Headset adapter
I need one for my wicked jawbreakers headset with mic to work with my C6-01 in India
    Thanks and Regards
    Anup

    Hi AnupTheRaskal,
    Thanks for your question.
What this adaptor does is converting the headset pinout on the plug from UHJ to/from AHJ version. UHJ is what is uses with most Nokia Sx0 and Symbian device, AHJ is used with Nokia N9, Lumia family phones and most Android compatible headsets.
This converter will allow you to use an iPhone compatible headset with a UHJ output for stereo audio only as as those use an Apple propriety system for microphone and buttons.
    Hope this helps,
    Kosh
